Hillary +6 In New National Post-FBI NBC Poll

NBC News reports:

Hillary Clinton’s 6-point national lead over Donald Trump remains virtually unchanged since last week, even after FBI Director James Comey announced the discovery of emails that could be “pertinent” to the investigation of Clinton’s use of a private email server.

The NBC News|SurveyMonkey Weekly Election Tracking Poll showed Clinton with a 6-point lead over Trump in the days prior to the Comey news. When looking at the data for Saturday and Sunday only, her lead remained the same β€” 47 percent to Trump’s 41 percent. The poll was conducted online from October 24 through October 30. Questions about Comey’s announcement were included on October 29 and October 30.

Results for the entire week of the tracking poll show that in a four-way match-up, Clinton enjoys 47 percent support among likely voters, while Trump holds onto 41 percent support. Gary Johnson drops a single point to 6 percent support, and Jill Stein has 3 percent support. In a two-way race, Clinton enjoys a 7-point lead over Trump, with 51 percent support compared to Trump’s 44 percent.

    Important to discuss ?
    How ?
Have we found out if Comey has even seen them ?
Obama backed Comey on this – odd

  • HZ81

With Comey’s ‘Russia leak’ info hesitance, it’s now confirmed we have one patriot in the race for POTUS and she is going to win.

  • Xuuths

Yes, and that envelope could have be the winning one from Publisher’s Sweepstakes.

  • Alex in Idaho

When I voted earlier today, they took my ballot pages and ran them through a scanner machine that kept the paper pages. I had not seen this before. This bothered me a bit for some reason (could they go through them at night and erase the Dem votes?)

    • safari

Ours are all individually numbered and filled out with a felt marker. Someone would have to replace the ballot entirely with a new one. I’m pretty sure the machines are also locked until officials can open them, which is probably done with someone staring over their shoulder.

      • Alex in Idaho

I hope they’re secure. My district is VERY solidly Republican, and even so, political shenanigans have happened among the Rs.

    • ultragreen

The optical scanner machines that we use always grab your ballot, where it disappears into the machine.

      • safari

Or kicks it out if you voted for too many candidates.

        • Alex in Idaho

Ummm, and how did you discover this? πŸ™‚

          • safari

It’s just common knowledge here. It’s never happened to me.

          • Alex in Idaho

When I was voting this morning, there was a confused-looking elderly couple sitting at a table staring at their ballots while a young woman was pointing to the presidential candidate boxes (we had tons of whackos running for Pres this year) and telling them to color in a box. I didn’t notice where her finger was lingering, even while she was telling them to vote for whichever one they liked. That didn’t sit well with me.

        • ultragreen

That’s never happened to me so far, not that I’ve tried to vote for too many candidates.

    • BobSF_94117

What did the old machines do, give the paper back to you???

      • Alex in Idaho

I never voted early before, so they just collected the paper ballots in a box and scanned them after the polls closed.

        • BobSF_94117

Ah. I assume the new machine scans (for errors) and records the vote and stores the paper securely. So it’s actually a bit safer then storing them for later counting. (Trusting the software, etc., of course.)

  • Chuck in NYC

Well, thank god, because I’ve been in a gut-wrenching panic since seeing The NY Times has dropped its previous chance Hillary wins from 93% last week to 89% today.

  • John30013

I am confident she’ll win the electoral vote, but I really hope she gets a clear majority of the popular vote.

    • Reality.Bites

She will. Those Johnson/Stein numbers are hugely inflated, going by historical evidence.

If you can’t stand watching teevee, be advised that “FBI has reopened investigation of Hillary Clinton” is not challenged in any way, shape, or form.

One might as well start sentences with “As the sun rises in the East…”

  • MikeBx2

Obama won by a 4 point popular vote margin in 2012 and a not close 126 electoral vote margin. Relax, she’s got this.

    • Rambie

It’s flipping the Senate we need to worry about.

    • sandollar_man

That’s not exactly correct. His 2012 win got him an additional 62 electoral votes. Which is still pretty good cuz it included all of the swing states. Also, his popular vote counts were the most any President has ever achieved – both times.

The press’s goal is to make the race seem as close as possible, in order to attract more viewers.
But their hyperventilating about every picayune detail, has become a transparent tag that most of us can see thru.

The only hyperventilator among them that I enjoy watching, is Rachel Maddow.

      • Ross

        No, Mike is correct.

Obama won with 126 more EV than Romney.

        • sandollar_man

The source I’m using says this – “On November 6, 2012, Obama won 332 electoral votes, exceeding the 270 required for him to be reelected as president”.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barack_Obama#2012_presidential_campaign
          332 – 270 = 62

          • Bruno

Margin means what he got minus what Romney got. Not what he got minus 270.

          • sandollar_man

            I beg to differ.
But it doesn’t matter cuz Both Obama and Hillary are gonna go down in history as having trounced their rivals.
She may even survive the impending ReThugLican onslaught, to run for a second term.

          • Bruno

You have a different definition of margin? Do tell.

          • sandollar_man

Well I’ve always defined Presidential “margin” electoral votes, based on what they need to win.
Not on what the diff was between him/her and their rival.
I guess that assumption has been guided by how the TV networks have defined it.
Ya know, they guide and influence our thinking and terminology so much more than we want to acknowledge.

          • disQusTed

So if she were to win 470-68 you would think she only won by 200?

          • sandollar_man

            Yes.
And that 200 would be an incredible win.
Her hubby won with 100 additional electoral votes the first time.
And he won with 109 additional electoral votes the second time.
We liked him even more the second time.
Oh Bubba! Your sex life doesn’t mean a damn thing to us. It only matters to the adolescent media types.

When Hillary won the first time in New York, those voters gave her 55% of the vote.
Then they gave her 67% the second time.
It seems the Clinton’s “grow” on us. HeHe.

          • stuckinthewoods

I agree. The candidates are popularly considered to be running against each other. They’re really running to reach and exceed a number, 270. It’s actually not a direct contest in the way a game is.

          • Ross

Thank you. And Obama also won with 126 more EV than Romney, which is BIG.

      • MikeBx2

Yes, I was referring to the margin between Obama and Romney was 126 EV’s. 332 to 206.

It seems kind of strange that after my whole life hearing people wonder if we will ever elect a female president we’re just one week away from it possibly happening, and yet most people don’t seem to be acknowledging that fact anymore.

    • Treant

Catch me next week. Right now, it takes a back seat to “keeping the nuclear-war loving asswipe fascist pig out of office.”

      • Lumpy Gaga

Yeah, I’m kinda feeling like saying anything along those lines is like calling a jinx.

    • avidreader

I sometimes forget about that as well. We’re a week away from THE WHOLE WORLD witnessing that glass ceiling being shattered. Incredible.

I can’t imagine the effect this will have on little girls everywhere.

      • BobSF_94117

Uh… well… why do we think the only glass ceiling that matters is the glass ceiling in America?

        • avidreader

Because the current global narrative (as you kindly keep reminding us) still holds that the US is the leader of the free world. I don’t exactly feel enslaved here in Europe but do recognise that developments in the US — especially through Hollywood — greatly impact the whole world.

Girls will see that a woman can also hold what is probably the most important job on the planet right now.

          • BobSF_94117

As you might surmise from my question, I’m not one of the admittedly many “leader of the free world” type of Americans. Maybe it’s not getting as much emphasis because it’s (more than) a bit nepotistic.

          • avidreader

Enh, I don’t think dynastic power really bothers people that much as long as the candidates are competent enough.

          • BobSF_94117

            Like Dubya?

      • Joe in PA

True, but I also wonder what the effect of all this negative Hillary press will be to suppress the very thing we want: more female politicians. Kinda sad.

    • Bruno

Hillary’s gender has been the elephant in the room this election. It’s hardly talked about, and none of the blind vitriol she receives is ever accounted for by misogyny in the mainstream media. Such a sad state of affairs.

      • GayOldLady

No candidate, in the history of Presidential elections, has gone through the scrutiny and the dissecting that Hillary has, all generated by the GOP and conspiracy theorists anxious to keep her from becoming President. No candidate, in our 240 year history, has been more qualified and prepared for the presidency than Hillary is. No presidential candidate, of a major party, has ever been a woman. There’s a message in all of that.

        • Bruno

Yeah. It also doesn’t help that she was treated like a half-president in the 90’s and was targeted back then for her gender as well. I’ve often said this country doesn’t actually deserve her, and I think it’s proved that this election even more so.

    • BobSF_94117

Both parties seem to have decided it’s not in their interest to highlight the long-anticipated, formerly great-moment aspect.

    • NancyP

Yes, and that’s because a majority of the public thinks that women should not lead.

    • matthewrettenmund

She isn’t seen as a female by most people, but as Hillary Clintonβ€”for better or worse.

    • Randy503

We’ve gotten used to female governors, senators and Surpreme court justices. Even the GOP had Carly. It just doesn’t seem to be that extreme of a difference.

  • Lumpy Gaga

    Dear mainstream media:

“Stop trying to make ’email’ happen!”

    • moebym

But “Hillary Clinton’s lead holds steady” isn’t going to attract many clicks.

  • ultragreen

People really think Comey’s letter and this latest batch of e-mails will amount to anything important? How easily they are led astray by trivia.

    • Ross

People who have voted for her already or plan to vote for her, could care less, or are even MORE motivated now.

  • Bruno

Apparently early voting has skyrocketed in key Ohio Dem stronghold counties? I wonder if the Comey thing is having a bit of a boomerang, in addition to other factors.

    • GayOldLady

Energizing OUR base would be a backfire, but I’m not surprised.

    • bmedle

I really think that Comey’s amateur hour political ploy has (aside from energizing Hillary’s crew) caused some people to think about the stupid fucking email thing in the proper light: It’s a giant manufactured “scandal” with zero substance.

      • justme

        You are!!
I’m so tired of hearing about it from IDIOTS who can’t even understand how it works..

That’s the thing: All these people can’t wait to talk about how crooked Hillary is with her emails, yet no one can tell you the first fucking thing about the situation. Conspiracy theories, sure. Factual information? That shit’s for the Jews and Libtards.

Oh, and I’m sure Hillary has never sent a, you know, personal email to anyone in her life. Certainly not to a person like Huma. It’s not like they’ve known each other for twenty years (at least) or anything.

  • Richard

Everyone knows Comey’s BS letter to congress was a partisan political dirty trick just to sway the electorate to Drumpf. It will work only on the Hillary haters. Who cares about the email BS…… We need to make Hillary Clinton the next president of the United States and then fire Comey !

    • Ross

  • bmedle

Again with Dump and his 40 percent ceiling. This is why I don’t sweat it, folks. There’s sure to be a little noise in the polls, and Hillary might lose a little in the aggregates. We’ve seen it this cycle a few times. But Dump cannot get above 40 (give or take a point). Nobody, at this point, is going to go from Hillary to Dump because they heard something about Hillary and emails.

Seven days to the election and it seems our minds are made up and we’re just waiting to vote. Still a landslide
