CNN Cuts Ties With Donna Brazile

But Corey Lewandowski still works there. Via Politico:

CNN says it is “completely uncomfortable” with hacked emails showing former contributor and interim DNC chair Donna Brazile sharing questions with the Clinton campaign before a debate and a town hall during the Democratic primary, and has accepted her resignation.

Hacked emails posted by WikiLeaks show Brazile, whose CNN contract was suspended when she became interim DNC chair over the summer, sharing with the Clinton campaign a question that would be posed to Hillary Clinton before the March CNN Democratic debate in Flint, and sharing with the campaign a possible question prior to a CNN town hall also in March. In a statement, CNN spokeswoman Lauren Pratapas said that on Oct. 14, the network accepted Brazile’s resignation.

“On October 14th, CNN accepted Donna Brazile’s resignation as a CNN contributor. (Her deal had previously been suspended in July when she became the interim head of the DNC.) CNN never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate. We are completely uncomfortable with what we have learned about her interactions with the Clinton campaign while she was a CNN contributor,” Pratapas said.

  • Do Something Nice

WTF? I didn’t realize that Brazile did that. Is there anyone in this election cycle who doesn’t cheat?

    • 2patricius2

I thought she addressed this a month or so ago. She said she suggested to Hillary questions she might be asked, but had no access to questions that would be asked. She said lots of people suggested to candidates questions they might be asked, and candidates often didn’t pay attention to them.

      • Do Something Nice

Except it seems that she sent the exact wording of the question to Clinton. And writing this in the email is pretty damning: “”From time to time, I get the questions in advance. . .Here’s one that worries me about HRC,”

Don’t worry, I already voted for Clinton and would do so now, because I’m voting against Trump.

        • 2patricius2

And I voted for Clinton as well. My vote is my legacy, should anything happen to me before voting day.

        • Hank

I voted FOR Hillary period!!! She is the Most QUALIFIED, and everything else is pure political hate after years of being in the public’s eye!

        • JustDucky

          Donna Brazil’s question:

“DEATH PENALTY 19 states and the District of Columbia have banned the death penalty. 31 states, including Ohio, still have the death penalty. According to the National Coalition to Abolish the Death Penalty, since 1973, 156 people have been on death row and later set free. Since 1976, 1,414 people have been executed in the U.S. That’s 11% of Americans who were sentenced to die, but later exonerated and freed. Should Ohio and the 30 other states join the current list and abolish the death penalty?”

          Jake Tapper’s question:

“Secretary Clinton, since 1976, we have executed 1,414 people in this country. Since 1973, 156 who were convicted have been exonerated from the death row. This gentleman here is one of them. This is Ricky Jackson, wrongfully convicted of murder in 1975, he spent 39 years in prison. He is undecided. Ricky, what is your question?”

Ricky then mentioned The Innocence Project by name.

          The Innocence Project’s webpage:

“As of October 2015, we have executed over 1,414 individuals in this country since 1976. 156 individuals have been exonerated from death row–that is, found to be innocent and released – since 1973. In other words, for every 10 people who have been executed since the death penalty was reinstated in the U.S., one person has been set free.”

The questions don’t have the exact same wording. They just use numbers from the same highly respected source.

  • watchthewingnuts

But how long did they Corey Lewandowski be a paid shill for Trump?

    • Chucktech

Contractually obligated to be a shill for Trump.

  • safari

“CNN never gave Brazile access to any questions, prep material, attendee list, background information or meetings in advance of a town hall or debate.”

So… where’d she learn the questions?

    • Do Something Nice

Just move along. . .there’s nothing to see here.

    • chadlybrown

it’s called common sense. Who knew they would ask about the economy at a presidential debate?

      • friedpikmin

The question she shared with the Clinton campaign specifically dealt with the water issues in Flint, MI.

    • John30013

I guess they’re trying to imply that Brazille obtained them surreptitiously. But I can’t really square that with the relative weight of the question she tipped to the Clinton campaign. To me it’s more likely that Brazille overheard someone discussing the question, or found out about it in some other inadvertent way, and passed the info on to the Clinton campaign.

      • Lawerence Collins

Go to TYT politics. Donna Brazile.

        • GayOldLady

          Have you read the email?

          • Lawerence Collins

    • Lawerence Collins

The leaked emails are real and accurate. They all just pivot to Russia. Hoping that will negate any factual information.
See YouTube. TYT politics Donna Brazile questioning. See Donna stammer and deflect, then say that the reporter was badgering her for having the gall to ask a follow up question.

      • Matt Rogers

Did you watch the same video that I did? I saw a brief interview by TYT’s Jordan, and Brazile did more than just pivot to Russia and say the reporter was badgering her.

She also said that the emails were altered and re-adapted, and
she stated unequivocally that CNN never shared any answers with her. She even asked another reporter to wait a minute so she could answer Jordan’s question.

The video also gave no evidence that the leaked emails were real and accurate. At this point, we don’t know that, and we do know that Russian intelligence weaponizes misinformation.

To be clear, Brazile’s argument about Russia was that we shouldn’t be cooperating with foreign operatives committing cyber crimes. I happen to think that’s a valid argument, especially when they’re trying to influence a US election.

I also think Brazile had a right to call Jordan out if she thought he was badgering her.

        • Lawerence Collins

How is a reporter doing their job badgering? She got caught and isn’t used to real journalism.

    • StSean

well, that’s ok because IT’S HER TURN!

  • JoeMyGod

The bigger question is why people still watch CNN.

    • safari

CNN’s average viewer age is 61. Fox is 67.

      • Hank

and MSNBC’s is??? I cannot find it. I google and they only come up with CNN or Faux News!

        • safari

          One article says 63.

      • Steverino

That (and especially corporate ownership) would explain why both, and increasingly MSNBC (especially during the daytime shows) spend too much time on right-wing concerns, or like FOX, is almost totally right-wing. They know the demography of their core viewers.

I am 61, hubby is 67, and we both are retired. We never watch FOX, seldom CNN, and the only MSNBC shows we watch are the prime-time shows, or Joy’s show.

  • Ninja0980

Thank you thank you thank you. Best JMG comment I’ve read today.

Why are the media getting a pass for using stolen property to influence election results and increase network ratings?

      Anyone, please…

Why are the media getting a pass on this?

  • GayOldLady

Because CNN didn’t know when they hired Donna Brazile that she was a partisan even though they asked her to play neutral on TV? Really? Sort of like Corey Lewandowski who’s been on the campaign trail with Trump even as he’s a PAID commentator on CNN? Double Standard, but it is CNN after all.

    • Do Something Nice

Oh stop. She sent a debate question to Clinton staff, in advance of the debate. I don’t give a fuck what the other side does, but I hate it when my side cheats.

      There’s no justification for this.

      • GayOldLady

Wow…..People who are democrats are actually in the corner of the Democratic Candidate? Whodda thunk it?

You might want to look at the question.

The question was one I heard Hillary talk about on the stump and in a debate with Bernie. Obviously not much of a heads up on a question she’s answered many times.

        • Do Something Nice

Well then, it’s ok to cheat.

          • GayOldLady

Cheat? Really? You don’t think this sort of thing goes on in every campaign? There are people who infiltrate campaigns for the sole purpose of divulging strategy to the other campaign. It’s sort of like Bill Belichick reading the signals of the opposing team, or the baseball 3rd base coach stealing the signals between catcher & pitcher. It’s part and parcel of the process and it’s been going on since the beginning of politics. You need to read the story of how Abraham Lincoln stacked his nominating convention.

          • Do Something Nice

Yes, I think it is cheating and if you get caught you apologize and get fired from CNN and the Clinton campaign.

And yes, it is small potatoes compared to this: “Harry Reid is saying that the FBI not only knows of collusion between
the Trump campaign and the Russian government, but that the FBI is deliberately shielding this information, while isdirecting public attention toward the email ‘scandal’ without any valid information.”

          • GayOldLady

I read the letter from Reid to Comey last night and linked it here. And what Reid is saying is not big potatoes, it’s HUGE potatoes. A matter of National Security. I think asking the Russian Government to hack Hillary’s emails and then having PROOF that Wikileaks received those emails via Russian Hackers is the epitome of political misconduct, possibly espionage, but Trump has not been held accountable. Still, Donna Brazile quit, so all is well.

          • GayOldLady

and “fired” from the “Clinton Campaign”. She doesn’t work on the Clinton campaign, she works for the DNC and she shouldn’t quit over that. She’s in an interim role and when the campaign is over it will be up to Hillary or the Party to decide whether she keeps the job or they give it to someone else. Whatever the decision is I’m fine with it.

          • GayOldLady

And BTW…….I think the best evidence that what Harry Reid wrote about Trump is true is demonstrated by the fact that not a single Republican has stepped up to Refute it. That action and assistance from a foreign government, a government that just so happens to be our adversary, is “cheating” on a scale grander than anything we’ve ever seen in the history of U.S. politics.

          • Chucktech

Comey’s fig leaf is that the Trump-Russia investigation is classified, hence he can’t divulge any info. I think he’s full of shit.

          • John30013

I actually agree with your position (this time). I do think Brazille was wrong to have shared advance knowledge of the questions with the Clinton campaign. However, Brazille was not an employee of the Clinton campaign (as far as I know she never has been), so she can’t be fired from it.

          • Gerry Fisher

No. Please stop it. In your analogies, it would be like the NFL or the MLB giving the signals to Belichick or to the 3rd base coach.

          • GayOldLady

Not really Gerry. Equating Donna Brazile’s role as a Democratic panelist on CNN and former Al Gore Campaign manager, with an NFL that is supposed to be totally neutral in it’s approach to all of it’s franchises & Owners, is a bit of a misrepresentation. But I understand the point you’re trying to make. There was one question discussed with an aide and Hillary had already answered the question in a prior debate and had discussed her position about the death penalty on the stump.

          • Diomedes

Love how their tone changes. At first, when we had no hard proof, DNC cheating was, in their mouths, merely a nasty Bernie Bro conspiracy. Now that we do have such proof, it’s, well, totally fair and fine, and anyway, Russia is hiding under everyone’s beds y’all.

          • danolgb

If you don’t think Bernie had anyone doing the same for him, you’re naive. He even went as far to say that if his campaign’s emails were hacked, we’d see embarrassing things in them too.

          • bill weber

He said name-calling. Which makes sense, since Podesta and Mook are assholes.

          • GayOldLady

You don’t even know what you have. One email, one question and Donna Brazile wasn’t working for the DNC at the time. She was a Democratic Panelist contracted by CNN to opine on the election.

I’m going to block you because what you’re saying has nothing to do with Bernie, who supports Hillary and is campaigning for Hillary. This is about your Hillary hatred. You weren’t going to vote for Hillary under any circumstance. Good Bye!

          • Ribb Rotgut

Blocking is for weak people losing arguments.

          • GayOldLady

        • Lawerence Collins

Go to TYT politics. YouTube Donna Brazile. The email leak is real.. if not why doesn’t the Hillary campaign deny them? Why, because it’s all sadly true. I’m hugely disappointed in her.

      • danolgb

Here’s a helpful hint.. get the F! over it. Politics isn’t pretty and if we saw the other candidates’ emails, we’d see the same damn things.

        • Do Something Nice

          “Trump did it first.”

          • danolgb

Be careful. You might break the string of pearls clutching them so hard. The truth is they all know what might be questions, they don’t know which ones will actually be asked.

        • JD

Here’s another helpful hint, if you cheat at small, you’ll cheat at bigger. If you excuse cheating at small, you deserve what you get when they cheat at bigger. Yes, integrity matters.

It is exactly the same construct re LGBTQ matters. It matter not what proLGBTQ posturing the CEO makes or how great the HR policies…what matters are jokes at the water cooler. If they mock there, there’s mocking in the board room.

Sweat the small stuff. It’s what reveals the big stuff no one wants to see.

      • Gerry Fisher

I’m very disappointed at the cheating.

        • John30013

So am I. And over so trivial an issue (since, apparently, Clinton had already answered the question in a previous forum).

          • GayOldLady

It’s really not worth the scrutiny it’s getting. CNN hires political operatives as panelists and then allows them access to a question and folks act surprised that they might leak a question to a candidate? Political campaigns are wild and wooly, especially at the Presidential level. Ideally we’d hope that our candidates and campaigns aren’t playing hardball, but it’s naive to believe they don’t. And the question that was given to a Hillary aide is as you characterized it, one that Hillary had spoken about on the Campaign trail and had already answered in a debate before the townhall event.

        • jn

Me, too. It’s really, fundamentally, not OK. Compared to Trump, the Clinton campaign has been vastly more honorable. But feeding the candidate a question that the candidate should not have is completely not OK. Not only is that fundamentally unfair, it endangers the candidate if there is any appearance that the candidate promoted this practice in any way.

If don’t know if this sort of cheating is common or not. If it happens to be common, that doesn’t mean it’s right. It’s also not the case that it’s wrong only if you get you caught via hacked emails.

As I am reading things, CNN fired her because of the cheating, not because she’s partisan. Of course she, and Corey L., are partisan. There’s been no pretense to the contrary.

      • Lawerence Collins

I tweeted CNN that them parting ways with Donna Brazile, but keeping “assaulter Corey Lewandowski” employed is basically stupid – and one of Trump’s supporters said that the assault never happened. Seriously. It’s like they don’t believe there are records of these things…

  • Diomedes

Did Lewandowski cheat on CNN debates on Trump’s behalf?

  • JustSayin’

So if CNN never gave Brazille the questions how could she possibly have given them to Hillary?

    • TexasBoy

There you go, using logic again!

I guess the presumption is that she acquired them and passed them along without CNN’s knowledge or permission. The talk seems to be that the Wikileaks dump confirms that.

      • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

        Presuming wikileaks isn’t bullshitting.

Power attracts the Corrupt. Nobody who SEEKS power is Innocent. Democrat, Republican, Green – all have their own agendas and are willing to break the rules to achieve it. You just don’t mind when your interests are also those of the people in power.

Why is there an advertisement on the right of my screen for solid 24k gold and titanium butt-plugs?

Joe? Do you know something about me you’re not tellin’?!

    • Viod Null

Disqus remains online and monitors your web activity to enable you to respond on any Disqus forum you run across, and then they sell your web traffic history to advertisers to product place your adverts. So I guess you just told us something about yourself. .

Why does anyone in the DNC keep using email?

  • leastyebejudged

    Seems almost criminal to me.

Unfortunately Brazile did not handle questions about this very well when questioned by Megyn Kelly – she stammered and got defensive and appeared to obfuscate. I like her but I thought she would be a better interviewee.
