The National Front for the Family will go to Mexico’s Chamber of Deputies Tuesday to deliver more than half a million signatures opposing President Enrique Peña Nieto’s initiatives on marriage equality and on inclusion of what opponents call “the ideology of gender” in school teaching. The announcement came from the Archdiocese of Mexico City’s news service. The National Front, which staged the big anti-gay marches on Sept. 10 and 24, said the visit to Congress will mark the formal start of its activities as a permanent organization. Mexico’s population is 128 million. It’s the world’s 10th-largest nation.

Comentó que con esta acción, el Frente Nacional por la Familia da inicio de manera formal a sus actividades como movimiento cívico permanente el cual busca dialogar con los poderes del Congreso de la Unión en sus distintos niveles.
“Esperamos que desde este nuevo periodo de sesiones podamos ya estar acompañando de forma permanente las actividades de los diputados para hacer valer nuestras legítimas demandas”, afirmó.
Refirió que esta representación del Frente ha sido recibida anteriormente en la Secretaría de Gobernación, y espera también ser recibida por el Presidente de la República, lo cual sería un muy buen gesto de su parte, una señal de apertura y escucha a la ciudadanía.
Rodrigo Iván Cortés, vocero del movimiento, comentó que aún no han recibido respuesta del presidente de la República para sostener una reunión en la que expresarán sus inquietudes respecto a la iniciativa de matrimonio igualitario. “Recibimos una llamada de Los Pinos que iban a procesar la solicitud, pero hasta ahora no nos han dado día y hora”.
Same-sex marriage is legal in Mexico City and in 10 of Mexico’s 31 states. Out-of-state marriages are recognized nationwide. In the 21 states with bans still on the books, couples can only marry after a lengthy and expensive court process. The president wants to end that nonsense, hence the recent formation of Mexico’s first-ever national anti-LGBT hate group and their partnership with the Catholic Church.
