DRAMATIC BUMP: Hillary +6 In New National Poll

Politico reports:

Hillary Clinton has opened up a six-point lead over Donald Trump, erasing the New York billionaire’s slim national edge with five weeks until Election Day, according to a new POLITICO/Morning Consult poll of likely voters.

Clinton leads Trump 42-36 in the four-way race for the White House. Gary Johnson garnered 9 percent, Jill Stein got 2 percent and 10 percent remain undecided. It’s a dramatic bump for Clinton: Trump led by one point before the debate, and in a POLITICO/Morning Consult survey conducted immediately after the debate, Clinton led by four points.

In a head-to-head race between Trump and Clinton, Clinton leads by seven points, 46 percent to 39 percent. Clinton’s lead comes at the tail end of a particularly tough week for Trump. His debate performance was uneven and widely panned by Republicans and Democrats alike. He then spent a few days chiding Alicia Machado, a former Miss Universe, for gaining weight nearly two decades ago.

The episode broke through β€” 74 percent heard of Trump’s comments about Machado β€” and it appears to have hurt Trump’s standing with women. Fifty-five percent of women said it gives them a less favorable view of Trump, and 43 percent of voters said the incident makes them less likely to support Trump.

The asange is the sauce that’s served with aleppo. Olive Garden has it on the menu. Typically you order black and bitter russian bread beer to go with it.

    • ZRAinSWVA

Not just the uneducated. My dad has a PhD and is a rabid republican. Trump can do nothing wrong, and he’s thrilled that Trump was able to maneuver his way out of paying any taxes ’cause it’s his own personal goal.

Needless to say, my dad and I don’t discuss politics amongst polite company.

      • The_Wretched

Taxes are the price of civilization.

    • Misutaa Roboto

I know that for the most part, that’s accurate, but the exceptions are heart-breakung. Just yesterday I had a gay Mexican US resident (who, fortunately in this case, can’t vote) and an old Muslim Arab friend with a PhD both tell me they were supporting Trump. After I started probing the latter’s reasons (after an awkward period of us catching up), he told me he had only been joking. I’m not so sure. He seemed sincere enough. He has a moderate Bernie bro attitude towards Clinton combined with the typical American complacency that prevents many from believing that anything other than the stability they’ve always known is really possible. But I think I at least managed to give him pause about that attitude.

For the other guy, it seems like a night of watching YouTube with some methhead was enough to flip him 180Β°, and a short conversation with me later that day was enough to flip him back. I cannot fathom someone this weak-willed and malleable. He was upset to find that I don’t respect him intellectually. How could I? No doubt Colin Powell would say I need to stop dicking bimbos. That would not be wrong.

How could that happen, people should be fired for not scheduling polls after the debate…

They did schedule polls after the debate. Hillary’s leading all of them. Poir Joe may just have to wait until Tuesday or Wednesday for some more polls.

      • david fairfield

If they stay till the end, they might find their spending cards cancelled and will have to shell out their own money to fly home, ala the Romney camp…

  • TampaZeke

The problem with all these polls is how many people didn’t answer or answered “undecided”. Those are mainly people who are to embarrassed to admit that they are voting for Trump but are voting for Trump. When you factor those in we’re looking at the Brexit effect so we better keep working as if Hillary’s 5 points down because it’s possible that she could be.

    • Gustav2

And there are many in Republican areas who don’t dare say they are voting for Clinton. There was a story about Westerville OH (a suburb of Columbus where Gov Kasich lives) showing how a solid Romney area was in turmoil. A shop owner who could have had a Romney sign in her window in 2012 without consequences, had proclaimed her store “Switzerland.”

      • Reality.Bites

Westerville, Ohio. Home of the Dalton Academy Warblers!

    • LookielouE1707

I’m with 538 on this. Shy Trump is unlikely because Trumpets are not shy – they are the loud angry minority, and Trump has effectively normalized their brand of bigotry – and the polls are undercounting non English speakers and failing to account for Clinton’s superior GOTV. Expect Clinton to outperform her polls on election day, and for Trump to accordingly claim sabotage.

      • Treant

I’m with you on this one. I would never answer a poll, but I’m a staunch Clinton supporter. Statistically, it just seems that we’d be the ones less likely to respond.

      • Itsatarp

Also, these polls are automated: a recording asks the question and you press the keypad to answer. Even if someone is sitting next you you, they have no way of knowing how you answered.

      • david fairfield

Exactly. He has already planted that bug in everyone’s ear. Then he’s going to claim that the dems rigged the system until the day he dies, which can’t come soon enough for a lot of people. Good people. The best people.

    • Reality.Bites

Many of the undecided end up simply not voting – at least in normal elections.

    • Ross

What you are talking about is known as the Bradley Effect.

      This has been debunked.

      http://theresurgent.com/there-is-no-trump-bradley-effect-we-have-been-here-before-we-were-wrong-then-too/

    • GayOldLady

I disagree with that TampaZeke…..I have been called by pollsters in the past 3 election cycles. I was called 2 times in Obama Vs. Romney and 1 time in Clinton Vs. Trump. This year I was called by Rasmussen. In today’s polling you are not talking to a live person in the phone surveys. The polls are automated so there’s no reason to be “embarrassed”. I believe that there’s a percentage of people who will likely vote in the election, but will not vote for POTUS at all because they don’t like any of the candidates. During the Primary those undecideds made a big difference because it’s generally the Primary battle that’s bringing people into vote, in the GE, they make little difference because there are Senate seats, House seats, State Legislature seats, State referendums, local issues and all sorts of other reasons that are bringing people into the voting booth. In the Presidential telephone poll that I participated in there were only 5 choices, Hillary, Trump, Johnson, Stein or undecided. There was not a choice defined as “I’m not voting for POTUS”.

    • Bruno

This poll was conducted online, so it’s highly unlikely there’s a significant group embarrassed to admit their vote in that manner.

    • Jerry

Another problem is they’re mainly polling people with land lines…they haven’t figured a good way to hit cell phones, so the polls are skewing older.

  • OdieDenCO

        • olandp

No, if Trump wins, they will claim they didn’t vote for him. Nixon won re-election in a landslide, yet two years in no one would admit voting for him.

          • Gustav2

A bit OT: They are running ads in Ohio comparing Hillary to Nixon in Ohio.

          • RoFaWh

  • RoFaWh

We all have seen Drumpf bitching and whining about something being rigged; and we’ve also seen that he engages in projection all the time. His lies always point to his own bad behavior.

Which leads me to this thought: you guys had better be alert for any signs of the GOP rigging the upcoming election. Maybe this is obvious, but Drumpf whines about rigged this or that too often for comfort.
