Vandals Hit Trump’s Brand New DC Hotel

Politico reports:

Donald Trump’s brand-new Washington hotel was vandalized Saturday with messages supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, according to D.C. police. The spray-painted slogans appeared on either side of the entrance to the Trump International Hotel, which opened its doors last month. Photos posted on social media indicated that the hotel attempted to cover up the defaced portions of the facade with wooden boards.

“On October 1st at approximately 4:03 p.m., officers received a call about destruction of property at the 1100 block of Pennsylvania Avenue NW, which is also the Trump International Hotel,” Metropolitan Police Department spokeswoman Aquita Brown said. “We are investigating an offense of defacing public and private property.”

Removing the spray paint could be routine at an ordinary building, but the Trump Hotel operates under special requirements imposed by its 60-year lease with the federal government. Many of the restrictions requiring consultation with preservationists and federal officials are aimed at preserving the historic Old Post Office building even as Trump attempts to operate a luxury hotel in the 125-year-old facility.

    50,000 more votes for Trump.

    Not good.

    • gaymex1

I think you’re right. This is not what’s needed over the next few weeks.

    • Bruno

It may turn people against BLM but that doesn’t nec. mean votes for tRump. It’s not like Hillary vandalized his building.

      • Lazycrockett

It may not even be BLM protesters with Drumpf and his supporters anything is possible.

      • Bluto

Of course she didn’t. Obama did.

      • Joe in PA

Are you kidding, it will take exactly 0 seconds for them to spin this into an attack on Hillary. At a minimum Prez Obama. 🙁

        • Joe in PA

Edit to add: hmmm, maybe that was snark…apologies if it was.

          • another_steve

Your take is exactly on target, Joe.

“It’s Hillary’s (Hillary = the nīgger President) fault.”

        • Bruno

They spin everything as an attack on Hillary. They’re crying wolf a lot.

      • zhera

Donnie will claim ot was Hillary herself, with bill as look-out.

  • Silver Badger

Now that’s just wrong. It’s gonna take Ivanka days to scrub that off!

    • Joe in PA

Please, Trump already has Miss U scheduled. 🙁

      • Duh-David

        You mean Miss Mexico, right?

        • Joe in PA

To the Donald…they are all the same…Venezuela, Mexico… You say potato….

          • Duh-David

            San MexiPuertoGuataRico

    • Todd

      You meant Tiffany, right ??

      • zhera

No,no. Chris Christie will do it. He’ll do anything for his best bud!

        • TrollopeReader

and they even have sliders in the hotel restaurant!

  • Sabazinus

Should have used orange spray paint.

  • safari

I really don’t like property damage as protest.

    • gaymex1

No… I don’t like it either and it’s a pain in the ass to remove, especially on a historical building.

      • perversatile

To quote Suze Orman, ”If money can fix it, it’s not a problem.”

    • BobSF_94117

Especially when it’s an historic building that belongs to the American people.

    • bambinoitaliano

I don’t like it either. This is back lash from all the provocative talk from Trump campaign. If you have the alt right hinting on assassinating Hillary Clinton, this is mild by comparison.

    • Tom000

If you don’t like the vandalism, you should be more concerned with who the United States government rents. Putting his name over the door was worse vandalism than anything anyone else could do.

  • StraightGrandmother

Knowing Trump, he’ll order is sand blasted off, won’t even check on the regs.

    • ShawnSwagger

There is a way to blast historic sculpture and stonework clean with almost no damage using walnut shells. They successfully restored a WPA-era bridge in Cleveland using those.

      • Joe in PA

I’ve heard of that. I’m pretty sure it is illegal to ‘sand’ blast historic buildings in DC. But NOT before many many painted brick buildings in DC were damaged. You can spot it a mile away. Sad!

        • RoFaWh

Old brick buildings are a lot more complicated than you probably realize. The builders used two kinds of brick: a soft brick susceptible to weathering for all interior masonry, a hard brick resistant to weathering for the exterior.

But, aha! with this complication: the hard brick isn’t hard all the way through. It’s just a relatively thin layer that’s hard; the inside is “soft”. And that thin, hard outside layer is very easily harmed by sandblasting, putting the entire building at risk of harm from weathering.

      • 2guysnamedjoe

There’s the right way to do it, and then there’s Drumpf ‘s way. Let’s see which one prevails.

      • PLAINTOM

Thank you for info. Seriously, one of the many reason’s Joe’s bloggy thingy is so great is range of knowledge people share.

      • I heard that in the 70’s they found that walnut shells polished turbine fan blades perfectly, after searching through hundreds of other polishing materials.

  • Mister Don

“Old Post Office vandalized turning it into Trump hotel”

  • Yeah…I’m with several others here: Vandalism just isn’t cool, especially when we’re talking about a historic building that was already vandalized once by the installation of Trump’s name over the door.

    • another_steve

Progressives need to remain pro-actively silent and just highlight the many many obscenities that constitute Trump and his candidacy.

      Don’t scare off the undecideds.

      Just highlight the obscenities.

      • Bobby D. Gee

        You are an idiot….

    • Joan Crawfabulous

      Ha ! That’s good !

    • tominsf

Seems like an unusually tasteful marquee, for Trump.

      • The size, dimensions, and other aspects were imposed on Donald as part of the lease agreement.

    • Dale Snyder

” that was already vandalized once by the installation of Trump’s name over the door.”

      LOL Classic!

I’m 100% against vandalism in any way, even if it’s clear that it was done for a good cause by progressives as evidenced by the proper spelling of every word.

        • Alan S. Lee

          And criminal as well.

    • Do Something Nice

The Boston Tea Party was vandalism. Our country will built upon vandalism and dissent.

      • Doesn’t make it right. And did you ever really think through the full implications of that particular act, the Boston Tea Party?

They stole property belonging to someone else and destroyed it, in order to make a point against the British Crown, which did not own the tea in question. Over a tax dispute.

It’d be like me burning down your house to protest against the U.S. federal government or perhaps the bank which holds your mortgage. Would you like that?

In this case here, we’re actually talking about a building that still belongs to the American people as a historic structure which was, sadly, leased to Trump to renovate and use as a hotel.

        • ChrisMorley

In Britain at that time smuggling tea to avoid penal rates of taxation on it and wine and spirits from abroad were a major and highly popular enterprise.
There were no property or income taxes, just high taxes on goods, drink, windows, just about anything. Our rich and aristocracy grew fatter and enjoyed the profits from slavery too.

I have every sympathy for Boston’s tea trashers.

          • another_steve

A very simple principle applies to this kind of human enterprise, Chris:

If you descend to your enemy’s depths, you become as your enemy is.

          • Bobby D. Gee

            Read Saul Alinsky much?

        • thatotherjean

Furthermore, the vandals of the Boston Tea Party dressed up as Mohawk Indians to avoid detection. Didn’t work. I hope the DC police discover the vandals who tagged the Old Post Office Building quickly. It wouldn’t surprise me all that much to find that they weren’t really members of Black Lives Matter.

          • Do Something Nice

We’re talking about spray paint on a building that easily washes off. Just like the blood of dead black men killed by police.

          • DaveW

            Stupid person, justifying crime. Low.

          • Do Something Nice

            So you hate our country?

Had we not had the White Night Riots, police reforms that made them less homophobic in San Francisco would have been delayed 10 years.

And lose a ton of money on then file Chapter 11, again.

      • Cylux

You do realise the Boston Tea Party was a prelude to a real shooting war for dominance and control right? I highly doubt the French will be rushing to assist black lives matter against the federal government if it comes to that this time around.

        • Do Something Nice

Yes, I thought ‘the French’ were going to rush to assist BLM or something.

      • Queequeg

But we didn’t have an election to win then.

        • Do Something Nice

There was far more at risk back then.

          • Queequeg

Was there? Trump could have the nuclear codes if he became president.

    • delk

What sort of ‘luxury’ hotel doesn’t have doormen at 4:00 pm?

      • Jeffrey

I was thinking that. We stay at the St Regis in DC. I wouldn’t stay at a Trump property if it was half price.

        • Chicago joe

Wouldn’t stay at a trump property if were the only place with electricity. I’d rather sleep like a bum.

      • Nic Peterson

The kind that doesn’t have a good reputation for paying employees. The kind that doesn’t have a whole lot of guests. The kind that doesn’t belong in The Luxury Collection or Leading Hotels of the World. Here’s a screen grab from the LHW website: There are no hotels in “Trump international”
Search again or for your convenience, we have provided a selection of our highest Member-rated hotels for you to choose from.

In other words, a ‘hotel’ run by Trump.

        • JCF

“The kind that doesn’t have a good reputation for paying employees”

          POINTS!

    • Buford

Eh… I’m with several OTHERS here: While I’m usually against vandalizing historical properties, this spray painted message pails in comparison to the disgrace of leasing this place to Trump. It’s ridiculous to expect others to consider this place to be sacrosanct with Trump’s disgusting gilded logo plastered upon it.

      • DaveW

        Two wrongs? Dumb.

        • Buford

Not really. If (hypothetically) we allowed a historical landmark building to be leased for use as a porn and vape shop, it would be sort of silly to complain when somebody does something else disrespectful to it… like graffitti. Allowing Trump to plaster his ‘kiss-o-death’ logo on the building was a terribly disrespectful decision.

  • Lazycrockett

This doesn’t sadden me in the least.

  • BlindBill

I hope the people he said he would pay to create the diversion from his NOT PAYING INCOME TAXES FOR 20+ YEARS get the check from the Foundation to cover the cost of spray paint plus a little profit … unless donald thinks they did a bad job trying to make it look like people of color did that …… quite frankly, I truly doubt that anyone from BLM had anything to do with that at all …… of course donald has cameras… wonder if he will release the video – and if the video shows anything more that someone who has on a hoodie and gloves …and never faces the cameras (because they know where they are)

    • gaymex1

I hope it wasn’t someone from BLM. That just won’t help the cause.

While I would have no objection to any other Trump property being non-permanently marked up, I have to take issue with anything that defaces the Old Post Office. I used to work directly across the street, and I spent a lot of lunch hours eating there in the lobby. And every Wednesday lunchtime, we could listen to bell change-ringing practice in the tower — which I understand was grandfathered in as a continuing requirement for anybody who took over the building, so I hope it still is.

You may hate Trump, people, but don’t start defacing historical property!

    • Todd20036

Kind of hard to say that with a straight face considering what Trump did to it, and a lot more damage than just a little spray paint.

      • yetanotherLaura

I’m only talking about the outside. It’s one of my favorite buildings in Washington — it’s not at all the typical “federal building style,” it has a style and grace all its own. All he could do to the outside was put his name on it, and that not even in his usual 20-foot-high letters.

Go spray-paint Trump Tower. The hotel should just have picketers in front of it day and night every day until the election!

Protest, debate, canvas streets, hold up signs, yell, scream, make voodoo dolls of him and most of his kids for all I care (not Tiffany; no-one is sure what she looks like these days as she’s not been seen since Bergdorf’s started their latest sale), but vandalizing buildings, more less historical ones, is not cool. It’s also a pain in the ass to remove and more, it just backfires, as this one will.

  • Todd

Eek ……….. I’m no fan of this at all. As Michelle Obama said ‘When they go low, we go high’
This is deplorable level behavior, not a worthy effort at all.

  • O/T: Trump actually said this last night at his completely unhinged Pennsylvania rally. The one where he arrived 80 minutes late and people began leaving about halfway through.

And it’s getting worse. It’s not getting better. It’s getting worse. And you’re unsuspecting. Right now, you say to your wife: “Let’s go to a movie after Trump.” But you won’t do that because you’ll be so high and so excited that no movie is going to satisfy you. Okay? No movie. You know why? Honestly? Because they don’t make movies like they used to — is that right? What a difference.

What the fucking fuck was that? I’ve made more sense the time I was once in a major strep-throat fever dream when my temperature spiked over 106F.

Related to that notion, early on, he pretended to be Clinton for several minutes, imitating her stagger back when she had pneumonia, flailing his arms around. The comparisons for when he mocked the physically challenged journalist, Serge Kovaleski, were immediate.

Trump really is losing it. Hillary broke him.

    • Joe in PA

they don’t make movies like they used to….. Fuckity fuck is right! Pander much?

Hmmm, well to be fair, he WAS in rural PA. Sigh.

      • Seriously, where the fuck did this tirade come from? Besides fever dreams, I can think of one other cause of such a stream-of-crazy, and that’s when someone hasn’t been able to sleep for nearly a week.

        • Joe in PA

          that or the cocaine.

(that was meant as snark…I have no medical knowledge). 🙂

I think you are right though…you KNOW he hasn’t slept in weeks, what with all the debate prep, et.

          • Oh, as far as debate preparation goes, I think the reporting on that was accurate: He didn’t do any. He got together with his inner circle of rat-fucker advisers, gobbled down hotdogs and hamburgers (this was actually reported as happening), and spent a couple hours trying to come up with anti-Clinton zingers.

Regarding the lack of sleep though, I’m talking about his post-debate meltdown, culminating in his being so worked up he was awake to rage-tweet pretty much all night long on Friday, demanding everyone go look at a sex tape that doesn’t exist anywhere but in Donald’s addled and broken mind.

          • Helen Damnation

Do we truly expect him to show up for Debates #2 and #3? I think #2 will go forth, with a level of vitriol and shaming we’ve yet to see, even from him. That won’t work out well, so I doubt he shows for for the third one.
            You heard it here first…

          • Ray Taylor

I lost the bet when he showed up for the first one.

            From Wikipedia:
            Representation of Donald Trump[edit]
In 1971, businessman Donald Trump moved to Manhattan, where he became involved in large construction projects.[18] Trump came to public attention in 1973 when he was accused by the Justice Department of violations of the Fair Housing Act in the operation of 39 buildings.[19] The government alleged that Trump’s corporation quoted different rental terms and conditions to blacks and made false “no vacancy” statements to blacks for apartments they managed in Brooklyn, Queens, and Staten Island.[20]
Representing Trump, Cohn filed a countersuit against the government for $100 million, asserting that the charges were irresponsible and baseless.[19][21] The countersuit was unsuccessful.[22] Trump settled the charges out of court in 1975 without admitting guilt, saying he was satisfied that the agreement did not “compel the Trump organization to accept persons on welfare as tenants unless as qualified as any other tenant.”[23] The corporation was required to send a bi-weekly list of vacancies to the New York Urban League, a civil rights group, and give them priority for certain locations.[24] Several years later (in 1978) the Trump Organization was again in court for violating terms of the 1975 settlement; Cohn called the new charges “nothing more than a rehash of complaints by a couple of planted malcontents”, Trump denied the charges, and there is no indication that he was found guilty.[19][22][25]

          • JCF

Not just his lawyer, his MENTOR (of course, Drumpf dropped him like a hot potato when Cohn was diagnosed w/ AIDS).

        • RoFaWh

I hope his death is lonely, impoverished, and painful.

I think my favorite moment of that scene comes right before the song, when Terry Jones (as the mother) is washing dishes and suddenly a baby drops onto the floor between her legs and she says “Oh, Deirdre, would you pick that up? I’ve got to finish these dishes!”

That was always how I pictured a birth in the Duggar household.

          • I thought at first they WERE the Duggar’s…. 😉

      • JCF

Oh damn, you beat me to it! (I said “PBF” on a previous thread here–but not as soon as you did)

    • stuckinthewoods

I don’t know how he plays to various audiences. Husband just came back from nearby Lancaster and said local news showed only white men age 20 – 35, no women, no people of color. Trump bros. Do they get more slapstick?

I’m surprised Trump’s held up as long as he has. If he had a filter he’d have been gone long ago.

      • zhera

Wait! Is he losing the old, white men as well?

        :-O

    • bkmn

I hope Tim Kaine is getting lots of practice so he can clean Pence’s clock on Tuesday. How many more set-backs/bombs can Trump endure before he completely loses it?

    • Daveed_WOW

…but what did she do exactly? She was herself. She reflected him back to himself (figuratively) and literally let him speak for himself, often providing recordings of his very own words and behavior. She didn’t even break a sweat. And he’s crumbling.

IN actual fact, I was a little apprehensive that he would find a way to modulate and make him self appear normal and dignified. That not only didn’t happen, he didn’t even try to fake it.

She could have wiped the floor with Ted Cruz or Little Mario. This is amateur hour.

    • RoFaWh

      What the fuck was that?

Drumpf’s pitiful excuse for a mind free-associating. Stream of consciousness and all that. Except in Drumpf’s case, it’s unconsciousness.

He is absolutely unaware, utterly clueless, and totally lacks insight into himself.

    • ggg

      Here’s another interesting find:
“Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and his campaign have spent the week slut-shaming former Miss Universe Alicia Machado saying that she posed in Playboy and that there was a sex tape depicting her in it (there is not). An old New York Daily News article has surfaced that tells a story of Trump pressuring his future wife, against her will, to pose for Playboy magazine. Trump personally negotiated the fee, according to the report.”

Playboy editor claims Trump forced Maples to pose: ‘He wanted her to do the nude layout. She didn’t’

it’s almost like Trump can’t distinguish the difference
between his memories and stuff that never happened.

        • Ray Taylor

Something is on his mind, it does’t mean it ever happened or not. Happens to a lot of people during progressive stages. I’m not saying it is Alzheimer. Other people, smarter than me, have said things. Bad things.

        • MichaelJ

          Sounds like dementia to me.

      • marshlc

so, he pimped her out? Classy.

        • TampaDink

I’m surprised that he hasn’t forced/strongly encouraged his daughters to pose for Playboy too.

          • RoFaWh

            He will, he will.

He’s more than crass enough to do so.

          • TampaDink

            And would boast about it.

          • Luckily, he’s not popular with Larry Flynt or we’d have already seen the layout of his sons fantasy-fucking their sister in Hustler.

          • TampaDink

          • perversatile

          • TampaDink

            Yup.

      • Hence it is always projection with him.

    • canoebum

“Hillary broke him.” And I bet they’ve prepared another landmine for him in the next debate as well. Just a little something to slip in near the end that sets him all a-Twitter for the next three to fours days. I think the Machado setup was just the first.

  • Rebecca Gardner

Trump may be a racist, misogynistic, homophobic, xenophobic asshole, but vandalism is not going to win fans for your movement. I am 100% behind BLM, but the vandalism is criminal and the White Supremacists, and RWNJs are going to use that against you.

    • Joe in PA

I really hope they catch the perps…and it turns out to be a Trumpet. 🙁

    • SoCalGal20

Maybe it was done by some Trump supporter to discredit BLM.

    • Joe in PA

It cost 5 billion dollars to fix that IRS, really!

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

I have to wonder, was this really vandalism or a stunt to help Trump? You know that this is exactly the kind of thing he would arrange to garner some bizarre idea of sympathy.

    • Joe in PA

You are so cynical Jean-Marc…come sit by me. 🙂

    • SoCalGal20

First thing I thought. Did they only notice around 4pm? Was it done in briad daylight? This is pretty brazen. I would think there might be surveillance video, too, given the location.

    • safari

I’d like to think that, but there are plenty of stupid people to go around.

    • popebuck1

Their minds go straight to “false flag” accusations. So I don’t have a problem going there. This smells like something they would do to make BLM look bad.

    • Oh’behr

Sorry to be a broken record. Me too: Again I think of Hitler and the Reichstag fire of 1933.

  • Bill

Smarter vandals would have used gold spray paint. Everyone knows it’s Trump’s kryptonite.

    • Joe in PA

huh, I thought it was young boobs.

      • ByronK

Spray paint works better than milk.

      • JCF

  • bkmn

Not serving the goals of the movement.

  • Michael

Assuming a Trumpanzee didn’t do it, this kind of crap only makes all progressives/Democrats/liberals/people on the left look bad and it only gives Dishonest Donald and the right wing media more “evidence” for their narrative that we’re all thugs.

  • John Ruff

Oh no. They really fucked it up. If the vandalism hadn’t been done to a Federally-owned, nationally registered historic landmark, I’d be pleased.

    • RoFaWh

A good reason for landlords renting to Drumpf to say “no putting your name in big letters outside.” And demanding a huge deposit against the possibility of Drumpf not obeying.

  • GayOldLady

Paint will come off much faster than centuries of oppression and injustice. Donald Trump has insulted people of color his entire life and a couple of words, that will come off with a power wash, is hardly a serious concern.

  • Carl

It’s okay. I promised to pay their legal bills if they went through with it.

  • Lori

This building is not owned by Trump, it’s still public property. He just leases it, and if he has to declare bankruptcy again after the election someone else will soon hold the lease. Assuming this wasn’t a con job by Trump supporters, someone on our side needs to smarten up. Damaging an historic building owned by the public is not the way to point out that Trump is an ass.

  • ExGayTherapyKills

Trump is a racist. Rich white people control the media. Government CIA, FBI etc. have infiltrated the BLM movement to stop it. They use uncle toms to trick BLM people to stop their protest. Same as gay protest and movements, only the government used HIV/AIDS to stop both.

  • Treant

Well, the spelling is correct, so that points to our side.

The kerning sucks, so that’s a strike against.

    • Ray Taylor

It is obvious the spraying was not done by a talented artist.

Living here, I can tell you it’s going to happen…but is unlikely to be more significant than it was in 2012.

Remember, these guys (they’re always guys) talk a good game, but they’re ultimately fear-based. They’re not comfortable hanging around alone or in very small groups among large numbers of “those people.”

Two, most poll staffers aren’t going to be any too gentle about harassment at the polls. There are always exceptions, but…

  • Henry Auvil

To me that ugly golden logo above the entrance, with its tacky, poorly spaced font, constitutes an act of aesthetic vandalism.

  • Orly

Nah, obviously it’s a republican false flag operation.

  • andrew

The Vandals do little serious damage to Trump’s building. They do inflict some damage on the reputations of those seeking social justice.

  • Mark

Surely there is at least ONE camera on this entrance….

    Book ’em, Dano.

    • RoFaWh

Knowing how cheap Drumpf can be as long as the optics stay okay, it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to learn that the security camera(s) that should have captured this are all plastic fakes from a cheap dollar store.

  • ByronK

Just a passing question by why do all of Trump’s female surrogates look like models (using the term very loosely especially when it comes to Conway) and all the male surrogates look like Jiminy Glick?

    • Bruno

Rethuglican hiring practices. See: Fox Noise.

    • Furface

Because he’s cornered the market on unimaginative, marginally talented ‘performance artistes’ willing to work for the exposure; and the promise of a paycheck.

    • Oh’behr

Trump only hires the rather good looking women. He’s very sexist.

  • olandp

“Removing the spray paint could be routine at an ordinary building, but
the Trump Hotel operates under special requirements imposed by its
60-year lease with the federal government. Many of the restrictions
requiring consultation with preservationists and federal officials are
aimed at preserving the historic Old Post Office building even as Trump
attempts to operate a luxury hotel in the 125-year-old facility.”

Yeah right, ask The Metropolitan Museum of Art how they are enjoying the bas-relief sculptures from the Bonwit Teller building. Fucking short-fingered vulgarian.

  • O/T. This is interesting:

    https://twitter.com/CandaceSmith_/status/782683566287323136

Context & background: 1994 was the year before the tax returns leaked to the NY Times. So, he’s claiming to have had nearly a billion dollars in personal debt in the years BEFORE 1995 — on top of billions in losses in his companies. Then, in ’95, his new personal tax returns re-up that with nearly ANOTHER billion dollars.

Once could be an anomaly. Twice? This is clearly how Trump has been conducting himself his entire adult life! He books massive losses, then spends the next decade or so not paying any taxes.

I’m now guessing Trump either already has or is about to run the same scheme again to bank another billion or two of freeloading losses against future tax bills.

    • TrollopeReader

Gee, now Rudy and Krispie Kreme will say he’s doubly-so a genius. *sigh*

Trump has made mention of the new hotel at almost every rally.
Trump mentioned the hotel during the debate, in a very awkward plug for it.
He held his birther non-press conference at the hotel turning the appearance into a free-press marketing of the hotel. Thankfully the press said “screw that noise”.

Maybe this is a stunt, maybe not, but is sure seems he really really wants to direct attention to his latest endeavor.

  • Crystal Lynn Barcklay

well trump already vandalized it. If you ask me it is no longer a historical sight but a personal billboard for Trump. Paint it up His name on all sides show how you feel about Trumps giant billboard. Trump probably won’t be there for long. It’s a beautiful old building (I used to work not far from there), and will be beautiful again, in the right hands. It is still a historic building, and should be maintained in the best shape possible for its next tenant.

  • Doesn’t matter… it will be bankrupt as the rest in no time, and end up another eyesore, like all the rest.

Defacing publicly owned property, especially a building designated as historic, is no way to get back at Trump. Rounding up votes for HIllary is the way.

        • thatotherjean

True, but getting out the vote for Hillary in DC is sort of beside the point–they are already solidly Democratic. In the outer suburbs of Virginia, it might be a good idea, though.

        • RoFaWh

Let’s get back to a sense of perspective: it’s just a little spray paint, quite easily removed, as long as that idiot Drumpf doesn’t go for a DIY job or one carried out by people who don’t know what they’re doing.

          The building remains.

I just wonder what interior decorating atrocities Drumpf has ordered in the inside.

          • Gianni

It’s a publicly owned building that was defaced – a criminal act. I don’t see any need for a sense of perspective of which there is none.

No. Vandalism is not cool. I live in Las Vegas and the Trump Tower is a shitstain on our otherwise unique and colorful skyline. But what I would NEVER do is attend an event in one. Not a wedding, Bar Mitzvah, meeting or convention. Nothing. If my workplace required me to attend an event there I could not in good conscience attend. It’s not the politics. It’s the hate. Sheldon Adelson has the Venetian and Steve Wynn has 2 properties, both of which I frequent. It’s the Trump hate. It’s the Trump birtherism. The Trump brand is damaged in my eyes forever.

You do not want gold doors.

What is gold and elegant is gilded bronze. I doubt there’s an ounce of bronze in chez Drumpf, however. What he has is gold leaf over wood coated with gesso; that’s my guess, knowing a little about gilding.

Rudy continues his downward spiral: “Don’t you think a man who has this kind of economic genius is a lot better for the United States than a woman, and the only thing she’s ever produced is a lot of work for the FBI checking out her emails,” the former New York City mayor said on ABC’s “This Week” with George Stephanopoulos.

I’m sure this was done at the direction of Hillary and Obama. Thanks, Obama! No one ever treats Donald fairly. He’s being cheated. The whole thing is rigged.

No, he’s a cheater and liar. And a douche.

      • Gianni

Definitely not serious. I was being snarky. Obama has been blamed by the right-wing for everything but the weather and now it’s Obama and Hillary sharing the blame by the basket of deplorables.

O/T – Two more reminders of how very wrong the polls can be happened today, very reminiscent of Brexit. The peace plan referendum in Colombia got voted down today. Polls before the vote had shown the Yes campaign winning by 55/45. The No vote squeaked by with just over 50%, helped by the fact that 60% of eligible Colombian voters didn’t bother to vote.

Also today, Hungary had their refugee referendum. The most reputable pollster in Hungary before the vote had the No vote at 83% (it ended up being 98%) and said participation could be as high as 73% between those who said they either probably or definitely would vote. Other pollsters thought participation would be a squeaker between 48% and 52% (the referendum needed 50% participation in order to be valid). Actual participation ended up being less than 40%.

I’m just a little bit more unsettled knowing how far off pollsters have been this year.

    • Bruno

I’d be skeptical of any vote that resulted in 98% either way.

      • Circ09

In the case of refugees in Europe, I’m not. 98% at less than 40% participation tells me those seriously against sheltering refugees are the only ones that bothered to vote.

    • safari

There was a conservative Colombian leader on the BBC a few moments ago. He did have a couple of points: the agreement altered power structure of the government to include the FARC for 10 years and there was what sounded like a constitutional amendment built into the referendum to make it easier to rewrite the constitution at a later date. The government also altered the passage requirements to make it easier to pass. I’m not saying not passing it was good, but it seems like the referendum had a lot more to it than declaring a peace.

Though like most conservatives he got caught up on “well, the constitution says peace is a right…”. And… apparently that means something.

    • Mikey

      It’s not sad, it’s frightening.

She’s not crazy, she’s not intelligent enough to be permitted to vote.

People like her, who completely lack the ability to think critically, do not deserve the privilege of voting and having a say in the governance of the country.

I know that sounds unfair, but people who let themselves be swayed by utterly preposterous conspiracy theories are simply incapable of making important decisions like deciding who should run the country.

  • Bill Kenny

I hate Trump and think he’s a disgusting pig, but vandalism is not cool. When (I hope) his hotel goes bankrupt like most of his businesses, this landmark building will remain.

  • Blake J Butler

O/T: Possibly an endorsement that can help Hillary in Ohio. LeBron endorses Hillary.

“When I look at this year’s presidential race, it’s clear which candidate believes the same thing,” James wrote. “Only one person running truly understands the struggles of an Akron child born into poverty. And when I think about the kinds of policies and ideas the kids in my foundation need from our government, the choice is clear. That candidate is Hillary Clinton.”

He added Clinton “will build on the legacy of my good friend, President Barack Obama.”

“I believe in what President Obama has done for our country and support her commitment to continuing that legacy,” he wrote.

All I’ll say is this, I know Republicans are traitors but anyone on the left who is okay with an agent of Russia influencing our elections needs to STFU the next time the U.S. sticks it’s nose in another country’s elections.

    • DaddyRay

The US is certainly guilty of hypocrisy when it comes to our role trying to influence foreign governments – is it any wonder when it backfires. People don’t care for other nations meddling in their affairs

    • DaddyRay

I saw this posted on another website and thought it was a interesting analysis

“Donald Trump, a man who once boasted having “the world’s greatest memory,” has suddenly forgotten the role that was to be played by a controversial businessman he named to help guide his foreign policy.

After Yahoo News reportedFriday that senior U.S. intelligence officials were investigating whether the advisor, Carter Page, held secret meetings with senior Russian officials in Moscow over the summer, Trump’s campaign promptly disavowed him.

“He has no role,” said Steven Cheung, the campaign’s director of rapid response, when ABC News asked about the report. “We are not aware of any of his activities, past or present.”

From Russia With Trump: A Political Conflict Zone

Memory Lapse? Trump Seeks Distance From ‘Advisor’ With Past Ties to Mafia

Trump Foreign Policy Adviser Calls For ‘Mutual Respect’ in Moscow Lecture

Back in March, in a recorded meetingwith The Washington Post editorial board, Trump named Page as one of five members of his foreign policy team. Page, a former energy executive in Russia, described himself an expert on the Caspian Sea region and economic development in former Soviet states.

In July he was spotted at a Moscow law schoolgiving a speech, and Yahoo News reported Friday that during the same trip, Page may have also held private meetings with senior Russian officials. Page could not be reached Friday for comment for this report.

It is just the latest test of Trump’s memory concerning his ties to Russia.

Trump told ABC News’ “This Week”in July he has “no relationship to Russia whatsoever,” though he would “probably” sell Russians condos “on occasion.” The same month he tweeted, “For the record, I have ZERO investments in Russia.”

But an ABC News investigationfound Trump has numerous connections to Russian interests both in the U.S. and abroad.”

What is most astonishing is the GOP seem to be ok with it because it might mean they will win the election

          • Ninja0980

It’s amazing all of the vile people on the right they are willing to get into bed with.
And they think true progressives and liberals will want to work with them in the future?

          • DaddyRay

They would sell their own mother to win an election

          • DaddyRay

I would never be able to bring myself to vote for a candidate if there was ties to a foreign government influencing the election for my candidate

The fabled Trump name — associated with luxury and panache– is now seriously debased and, frankly, considered trashy among many. The Trump kids were estimated to be worth $150 million — but if no one wants to do business with the Trump corporation, their future net worth goes way down doesn’t it?

Looks like ex-wife Marla may be behind his tax return reveal from 1995. A lot of clues are pointing to her.

There’s that entire “sign here” sticker pointing to her name… I mean… that could come from any return… right?

      • Blake J Butler

Signs were at Tiffany, but that didn’t add up as normally it would most likely be one of his ex-wives to do something like reveal tax returns from when he was married to one of his wives. And given the tax-return reveal was from 1995, Marla was his wife and would have a copy of those returns.

          • Herald

I have chronic pain which ranges from moderate to severe. The last few weeks have been on the severe side. My wife says I am running 10 to 15+ so apparently I am suitably grumpy as well.

          • TuuxKabin

I’m grumpy from the chilled to the bone feeling in legs and feet. Not sure if it caused the ‘snap’ last night or the inept and unreliable ‘handyman’ who is five weeks behind in a project that el hubby says, ‘he’ll finish’. Felt good smashing a dinner plate into the sink. Didn’t have time to get ice cubes out and chuck ’em into the bathtub/shower. Aching cold, pain, one and the same. Hope you can find relief.
