LOUISIANA: FBI Investigates GOP Parish President Mike Yenni For “Explicit” Sexting With 17 Year-Old Male

Yenni is married and has a young child. The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports:

Explicit text messages from Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni to a 17-year-old male have been subject of an FBI inquiry, a spokesman for the bureau confirmed Friday (Sept. 30). Yenni did not immediately respond to a request for comment. “We will have no further comment about this matter going forward,” said Kyle Hanrahan, the FBI’s Louisiana division chief.

WWL television reported that Yenni, now 40, exchanged sexually suggestive messages with the gay youth, now 19, in 2015 when Yenni was Kenner’s mayor and campaigning for parish president. As part of its review, the FBI took the youth’s mobile phone, the station said.

The youth and Yenni were introduced to each other during a function at the teen’s high school, began texting and once met at a mall food court where Yenni gave him some designer underwear, the station said. The texting continued and grew more explicit, including one message proposing group sex with the youth, a friend and the parish president, the station said.

As a political issue, the texting could damage Yenni. As a legal issue, the age of consent in Louisiana is 17, so it would not have been a crime for Yenni and the youth to have sex. Another federal law, rarely used, forbids using telecommunications devices to transmit “obscene” content to a person younger than 18, the TV station said.

In other words, it must be a day ending in a -y.

  • Kelly Lape

Like it or not the age of consent is 17 – The man did nothing illegal. As for the transmitting porn issue that’s a bullshit law that needs to be matched to the age of consent.

    • another_steve

“Age of Consent” laws are bullshit, period. Holdovers of institutional religion, which has programmed all of us to think of young people as mindless chattel.

The issue is (1) are you mentally competent; and (2) do you agree, in a totally consensual and non-coerced manner, to the sexual contact.

Anything short of the above is the buying into religious-based myth and people-control.

      • ShawnSwagger

Not sure, but I think there are still 3 states that have different ages of consent for males and females. One would think those could not stand any challenge in a court nowadays.

        • LackofFaithify

A girl’s age of consent is when their fathers betroth them to their new owner.

      • j.martindale

As a parent, I disagree. Within reason, kids who are young and impressionable need some guidance. That said, I was in college at 17, and that certainly is old enough for a young person to make decisions about their own life. Fifteen, I would argue, probably not. You have to draw a line somewhere, though. If they are fooling around with other kids five years age difference or less, I could live with it, but someone over a decade older I would think is inappropriate and potentially dangerous for someone that young.

        • another_steve

          “Line-drawing” here damages human lives.

When I was age 13, I knew exactly what kind of sexual contact I wanted. I’m quite sure I’m not alone in that experience.

Societal rules forbidding it damaged me.

          • Do Something Nice

“Societal rules forbidding it damaged me.”

Do you not think some line needs to be drawn somewhere?

Also, I don’t think anyone is damaged by being expected to wait a couple of years to have sex.

          • Do Something Nice

another_steve is a libertarian nutcase. He also thinks that Mathew Shepard died because of a drug deal and not because he was gay.

          • I had forgotten about that. I did see some recent libertarian nuttery. I think it’s time to block.

          • another_steve

            Case-by-case.

There are 13-year-olds today who are much more sexually with-it and aware than some 60-year-olds today.

            Case-by-case.

          • j.martindale

It isn’t merely about sex. It is about control.

          • HoneyBoySmith

            Case-by-case.

            That makes terrible law.

A criminal statute should be absolutely clear about what is legal and what isn’t.

Laws are struck down for unconstitutional vagueness all the time.

          • another_steve

            No “vagueness” necessary.

“Are you mentally competent, and did you agree, in a totally consensual and non-coerced manner, to the sexual contact?”

          • And how sure are you that a younger person doesn’t feel coerced OR won’t come back later and claim that they did feel coerced? This seems like a really dangerous standard.

          • another_steve

You’re assuming younger people are incapable of judgment and discernment.

A buying-into, that, of institutional religion myths — which, ironically, so many here on JMG decry.

          • Do Something Nice

You’re right. 5 year-olds should be able to drive legally. 8 year-olds should be able to buy and consume a pint of tequila. And vote. And join the military.

          • They have done studies on the development of the human brain to show that the change from 13 to 14 years of age are significant. A 13 year-old doesn’t have sufficient brain development to fully understand the consequences of their actions, where at the age of 14 they do. So while in the past age of consent laws were fairly arbitrary, we do now have some scientific data to base them on. I’d argue that 14 is the very youngest that should be allowed.

And while I knew at the age of 12 exactly what kind of sex I wanted, that doesn’t mean I was mature enough to actually engage in it.

As a society we have a responsibility to protect and foster our youth until they are ready to take on adult behaviors.

I know you won’t agree, and that’s fine. Just wanted to make a statement.

          • another_steve

I’m aware of that research. It doesn’t change my position on this.

If you engage in unwanted sexual contact — or sexual contact with someone who is unable to give consent — you are guilty of rape and must be punished.

Regardless of the ages of the participants.

          • LarryChemEngr

You are being simplistic. The law must operate on objective information. For better, or for worse, we have to draw a line in the sand and say, below this age, you are too young to give “consent”, above this age, you are old enough to decide for yourself. In this case, the law is clear. He was old enough to give consent.. Enough with the bullshit, Steve. The guy wasn’t raped. He was propositioned, and he said “no”, and they parted. Big deal.

The sexual contact wasn’t unwanted. Get it? He gladly went along for a while. The younger guy was titillated and was mildly seduced by the older guy, but then backed out. They parted company with no issue. For some idiotic reason, younger guy is now having a hissy fit, and wrecking the guy’s life. This story just sucks.

          • Gates Ortt

Well adults do that shit all the time. Claim one thing then later change it to something else..

          • BobSF_94117

I would imagine a rather high number of teens answering that question differently at different hours of the day…

          • another_steve

Adults can be sexually ambiguous and fickle too, Bob.

Has nothing in particular to do with age, imo.

          • BobSF_94117

Well, we collectively decided that if an adult is “fickle” it’s his/her problem if people take his word.

What do you do about the adult who has sex with kid “who consented” and the kid later says he didn’t consent? What about that fickleness?

          • another_steve

The courts and medical professionals should evaluate, on a case-by-case basis. Just as they do in today’s adult alleged-rape cases.

I reject the notion that young people are incapable of desiring, and giving consent to, sexual contact. When I was young, that notion did not apply to me.

I’m quite sure it also didn’t apply to many people reading here.

          • BobSF_94117

Lots of young kids want to drive cars, too.

          • BobSF_94117

Maybe you were just lucky none of the sexual contacts you “consented” to were out to use and abuse you.

          • another_steve

“Use and abuse” can and does apply regardless of age. Plenty of adults are used and abused sexually.

Again: “Are you mentally competent, and did you agree, in a totally consensual and non-coerced manner, to the sexual contact?”

          • Dean

If a state can prosecute a 14-year old as an adult, it can certainly allow a 17-year old to engage in sex. Both recognize a certain level of cognizance and understanding.

          • LarryChemEngr

Really? So, if a guy picks you up in a bar, and even if you are obviously 30, or more, he is supposed to figure out if you are mentally competent, else he is a horrible rapist.

Get a grip, man. Your idea about how the world works, or even how should it work, is idiotic.

          • BobSF_94117

Hold on. You’re going to make using a crime?

          • LarryChemEngr

Your proposal is insane. So, each and every individual is to undergo a psychiatric evaluation to determine the precise age that their particular little brains are developed enough to give consent.

What planet are you living on, anyway?

          • And how will that work exactly? Before the fact? After the fact? Will there be some sort of exam one has to pass like a driver’s license? Or will some court decide AFTER the sex whether or not it was statutory rape?

I don’t think you’ve actually thought this true.

Other than some “Romeo and Juliet” exceptions so 18 year olds aren’t prosecuted for sleeping with someone only a few months younger than they are (or over whatever the limit is in their state), it’s not that hard just to avoid having sex with people who are too young.

          • another_steve

People who rape other people will be prosecuted. That’s how it is today.

If you have sexual contact with a person who is either mentally-incompetent or otherwise unwilling to have sexual contact with you, you are guilty of rape.

          • You are not this stupid.

          • Do Something Nice

He really is. Ask him about hate crimes laws.

          • LarryChemEngr

          • TheManicMechanic

And how old are you again?

          • Well it sure dicked with my head waiting for 26 years for someone to show me the ropes.

          • j.martindale

So did my husband, who got involved (when he was 15) with someone 12 years older than he, and ended up trying to commit suicide after the older man, a psychologist, did such a job on him that it almost killed him.

          • BobSF_94117

I would think that not drawing lines would ruin a lot more lives. There are a lot of creeps out there. And I mean hetero creeps.

          • another_steve

            Nothing changes, Bob.

If you sexually touch an incompetent or non-consenting human being, you are guilty of rape and you will be punished.

          • BobSF_94117

You know a lot of young women get seduced by cads, don’t you? Why do you want to subject kids to that?

        • I don’t think that being a parent or not gives you any special knowledge or moral authority on any subject.

All it does is give you legal responsibility for one child: yours.

          • j.martindale

            We hold different opinions, then.

          • On the contrary. I think it adds some weight to the opinion. No, it doesn’t make anyone the final authority but there was no claim of such.

I’m a little troubled by some of what I’m reading here.

          • The pompous moralizing shit we used to put up with from the likes of Anita Bryant, being spouted back by a bunch of PTA queens baking cookies and cooing over their dogs in sexless marriages.

        • greenmanTN

17 seems like a reasonable age of consent to me. What people leave out of the equation is INFORMED consent, because before a certain age you don’t have the information or maturity to give consent. As someone who was sexually active well before 17, I can say that from experience. Sure you can give consent before then, but that doesn’t mean you know what you’re getting into or able to handle it mentally and emotionally. You have to draw the line somewhere, whether that age is 16, 17, or 18. Before that you’re too easily manipulated and vulnerable, and you can get yourself into situations you are by no means ready for, no matter what you think at the time.

          • j.martindale

I agree with you. I have been with my husband 26 years. He is 14 years my junior. We met, fortunately, when he was 28 and I was 42. Had we met five years earlier, I seriously doubt that we would have survived the relationship. He needed that maturity to be on an equal footing…which he definitely has been throughout our relationship. I understand May/December romances pretty well, I think. They are not simply about sex.

        • LarryChemEngr

But still. At 17, it is for that person to decide. Not you.

          • j.martindale

You evidently didn’t read what I wrote, because I said 17 was plenty old enough to make that decision.

      • If we have an age limit below young people can’t enter into legal agreements it seems right that we’d have an age of consent.

      • Do Something Nice

An adult having sex with a “consenting, mentally competent” 8 year old is never a good idea. Nor with a 10, 12, 14 or even 16 year old.

You’ll have to go to Thailand or some other place for your despicable kicks, with your perverted NABLA brethren.

      • Statistics Palin

Actually, religious conservatives wanted age of consent to be as close as possible to puberty to prevent masturbation. The age of consent in the Vatican was twelve until Francis took office.

        • Gates Ortt

My grandparents were 15 and 13 when they married. They were together for 65 years when my grandfather died. This was not uncommon 100 years ago Times were hard back then and kids had to grow up and become adults very early. It’s just really hard to stop kids from having sex once they’ve gone through puberty with hormones, very powerful drugs, flooding their brains and genitals.. I never saw porn until I was 16. Because of the internet I wouldn’t hesitate to bet every child by the age of 12 has seen porn. I babysit my neighbor;s grandson and I have caught him masturbating to porn several times on his phone (he;s 11).

        • BobSF_94117

I suspect the only reason the Vatican changed it was PR.

    • It’s a federal law and it’s been on the books for about 20 years. If you want to repeal that law you can make that case but sexting and dirty texting with underage people is illegal.

      • j.martindale

I agree, sort of. But if a 17-year-old can have sex with another adult (which I believe he or she should be able to do) it seems laughable that they shouldn’t also be able to do sexting. On the other hand, sexting is stupid for everyone of every age, because it opens you up to blackmail. Maybe sexting ought to be outlawed rather than restricted by age.

        • HoneyBoySmith

As I wrote in another post, I think there should be an exception in the law that excuses sexts between persons that could legally have actual sex.

In other words, a person shouldn’t be criminally liable for sending a dick pic if he wouldn’t be criminally liable for showing the real thing.

          • j.martindale

My Dad always told me never to put something in writing that I wouldn’t want published on the front page of the local paper. I think there is a parallel here to visuals. Never get in a compromising position and make a record of it.

          • HoneyBoySmith

It’s a stupid thing to do, certainly (which is why there are no pics or vids of me on the internet having sex; I don’t make them).

But, being stupid shouldn’t be a crime.

Hell, if it was, at least half the country would be in prison.

          • j.martindale

No, we would ALL be in prison. The smartest among us have had to learn from stupid, stupid mistakes.

          • HoneyBoySmith

            Touché.

          • MB

I recently asked a gay college-freshman friend who just turned 19 about doing possibly-stupid spur of the moment things like sexting, and sending compromising pics on Snapchat. His answer was that in the heat of the moment they DON’T think about the consequences. He was surprised by my reaction of disbelief and exasperation.

          • BobSF_94117

Well, there’s good advice and there’s punitive prosecution…

    • HoneyBoySmith

It is, actually, illegal to sext someone under 18…even if it’s legal for you to actually engage in sex with the person.

People have been successfully prosecuted for it.

I think there should be an exception in the law for people who, if they met in person, could legally have sex.

But, that’s not what the law is right now.

      • BobSF_94117

There should certainly be an exception if they’ve actually HAD sex.

      • LarryChemEngr

It is also against the law to wash a pig in a bathtub on Sunday in Missouri.

There are lots of stupid, irrelevant laws that no one enforces because they are antiquated. Be careful when you strictly quote the law, as if that always means something. It doesn’t.

        • Ore Carmi

When exactly was it not antiquated to forbid washing of a pig in a bathtub on Sunday?

        • HoneyBoySmith

I think you missed the part where I explained that people have been successfully prosecuted for sexting with those they could legally have had sex with.

I am not talking about laws that aren’t enforced. Prosecutors go after these people because it’s an easy win.

Lovely. Jefferson Parish contains the city of Kenner, Louisiana, my city and one of the most racist places on the planet. Kenner was settled by white flight from New Orleans back in the 70’s and went overwhelmingly for David Duke. So…as usual…we get Republicans whose platform is supposedly “Christian” while the actual politicians indulge in “perverse” pleasures. Hypocrites. I just LOVE living here.
God I wish I could afford to move back to South Florida.

I want Pres Obama to assure all of us he will not block prosecution of Donald Trump, regardless of election outcome.

Hillary hasn’t a worry in the world unless Trump wins, in which case, there will be more bogus prosecution attempts under a Trump/(R) administration than this country can even imagine…

      • lymis

I don’t know if it counts as a worry, but there will be people sharpening the flensing knives as soon as she’s sworn in. Republicans have decided that “impeach” means “we don’t like you” and they;ll try to prove it.

    • Smokey

As there have been approximately 1,698 investigations into Hillary over the last 30 years and no criminal acts were uncovered and no charges filed then there is no need for pardons or immunity.

I only did a brief search, but everything I can find on him shows he’s mostly just focused on public works: clean ups, trash collection, sewers, etc.

But there was this very unfortunately titled article from last July: “Jefferson Parish President Mike Yenni wants to entice young people to stay”

Yenni is an alumnus of Jesuit High School in New Orleans. He was extensively involved with students at the all male high school. Coincidentally, a young Jesuit student told a very similar story of an affair with an alumnus who was a politician. Jesuit alumni weild considerable influence in Louisiana, banana republic that it is. This story has legs.

Awww, man, I sorta feel sorry for the guy. It seems that guys way back in the closet seem to get into more crap and trouble trying to hide their natural feelings than just coming out and telling everybody else to just F– k off. Too much peer pressure, parent approval, church and the local sanctimonious bigots. The kid was 17 and legal after all.

    • CityWOOF

I would feel sorry for him if he wasn’t a member of the GOP.

      Gee…OH! Pee!

    • Statistics Palin

Keep in mind the student was in a high school that would have expelled him for coming out. So, the student was vulnerable.

      • MB

Yenni, a Catholic who attended a Jesuit HS, seemed to know how to manipulate another Catholic kid. The kid said in statements:

“I was seventeen at the time and flattered to think a married guy wanted to break vows just to be with me,” he writes.
The alleged relationship continued for about a month, and primarily involved sexting and, as Daigle puts it, “failed plans to meet and references to the underwear he’d bought me.” He says he grew frustrated with “Kevin’s” (Yenni’s) flakiness and “generally bland attitude about the gravity of the situation,” so he cut eventually off communication, blocking the older man’s number.

        • Statistics Palin

Yes, i get it. I am a Jesuit alum. closets are dark and deep at Jesuit for students, faculty, and alumni who don’t get the fuck out of town.

          • Schlukitz

That was precisely what I did.

At 16, I got the fuck out of town and headed for the Big Apple where I could be myself without fear of having the crap beaten out of me like I did where I came from.

        • I do not touch my students. Ever. It would be easy enough to ask first before showing them about rib cage expansion when breathing and other things, but I have learned to show them using the mirror, but I don’t touch them. Do they really feel that their grade wont’ be affected if they say they aren’t okay with that? I have no way of knowing. it’s better to stay well on safe side of boundaries (especially since I don’t have tenure)!

          • MB

Young men’s brains don’t fully mature until around age 25. How then can we expect 13-17 year-old boys to have fully formed reasoning/emotional skills about sexual relationships, especially with someone who is an adult ??
We need to encourage young people to be genuine and honest but to always be careful and safe.

          • Schlukitz

At the age of 16, I was very clear about my reasoning, emotional and sexual relationship with a man five years my senior.

It was my elders who had a problem with reasoning, emotional and sexual relationships…all of it based on religious bullshit and the babble.

          • Reality.Bites

Yeah, but it’s a tad suspicious when a math prof brings up rib cage expansion no matter how he shows them. 😉

          • Joseph Miceli

Growing up I was bombarded with the “gay males are child molester’s” meme. As a result I never let myself be alone with kids and I was VERY uncomfortable playing with or being around them. Sadly, to this day I check myself whenever I’m around kids to the point that it has really stunted my family relations. “Even the appearance of impropriety must be avoided.”

        • HeyYouKidsGetOffMyLawn

Well, the kid sounds like he’s brighter and had more brain cells than Yenni.

        • Schlukitz

““I was seventeen at the time and flattered to think a married guy wanted to break vows just to be with me,” he writes.”

Did the kid really think that a married man would leave his wife and child for him?

While I too, at the tender age of 16 was looking to settle down in a cottage with a picket fence with the love of my life, it took me a while to learn that many men, both gay and straight, are just looking for casual sex with no commitments.

    • Ben in Oakland

I’d already been out on my own and supporting myself since the age of 14.

      • Cuberly

        Dang, you made it though.

I was busy passing myself off as 18. Not that it mattered to the married men I met. And they were ALL married. Had one somewhat long term thing with an Olympic ski coach of all things..and yep, he was married and had an “arrangement” with his wife.

        • Schlukitz

          We matured early. 😉

          • Cuberly

Heh…yep we did, and we went so by choice.

          • Schlukitz

Absolutely. Leaving home at an early age made me feel more independent, responsible for myself and more capable. And I would do it again, perhaps even earlier, since I was already working on a poultry farm by the age of 12 and had a decent man for a boss that I learned so much from.

My grandparents on both sides of the family came from the old country. They were already married by the time they were in their teens. They were only in their early twenties when they came to this country to start a new life for themselves as the war clouds were gathering in Europe.

I have travelled extensively throughout Europe in my long life and my experience has been that European youths seem to mature at a much earlier age than do American youth. The teenagers that I have met and spoken with seemed much more well informed, more intelligent, better educated and more responsible. Their parents did not pamper them or make allowances for them simply because they were young. When speaking with one of them, I forgot that they were teenagers because it felt like I was speaking with fully grown adult.

Very possibly this is because the parents do not seem to hover over their offspring they we do here in this country and allow them to spread their wings at a very early age. They also expect more from their progeny and are not prone to making excuses for them when they make mistakes. Rather than avoiding making mistakes, as we all must, they view them as a learning opportunity.

Just some random observations about life.

  • BobSF_94117

I’m very uncomfortable with the FBI getting involved if the reason is the one raised. Maybe there’s another reason, like blackmail…

    • MB

The FBI may have also been concerned that this began when Daigle WAS younger than 17.

      • BobSF_94117

The FBI doesn’t get involved in statutory rape cases. (Maybe they do if state lines are crossed, but still it’s gotta be rare, I would think.)

      • Schlukitz

The article was clear about the gay youth being 17 when the exchange of messages too place. It is also clear about the fact that the youth was gay. He is now 19. No laws were broken and no one was injured, so why did it become an FBI issue? And who blew the whistle on Yenni?

It’s possible that there was a failed extortion attempt on behalf of the youth who is now being retributive, which would explain the FBI’s involvement.

We’ll hear more about this, I am sure.

While I think that the man is a sleaze, and I feel sorry for his wife and child, It is time to change the laws about Teen sex.

I am in my fifties and get 21 yo’s after a dad figure all the time. In the bars, on line and other places. For the FBI to go after him because he chatted with a 17 yo who gave out his number, is crazy.

The laws today, are the same in most places, as they were 75+ years ago… Kids today are much more mature and open… time to treat them as such. Heck, when a 12 does something bad, we want to treat them like adults…
    Fix the laws!

    • j.martindale

Sleaze? Poor wife and child? Well, maybe. Lots of husbands leave their wives and children when marriages fail. I hope you have the same pity for every one of them, because the mere fact this guy ended up being attracted to a young man doesn’t necessarily make the situation ANY different than a man leaving his wife for another woman (younger or older) or just leaving his family because the marriage turned sour. So often we get gay people castigating other gay people whose marriages failed as though they were guilty of a special kind of betrayal. Well, you may not have a clue about why the marriage failed or whether there was betrayal or not. So try to reserve judgment.

      • Irish856

The sleaze part is about his not knowing when to back off when he made the kid feel uneasy. If he had done that, we would know nothing.
I always feel for the families of public figures that are pulled into the public eye due to issues with one of the partners. That little girl did nothing, but will be laughed at Etc. by classmates due to her father. As will his wife.
Who said that the marriage failed? Seems that you may be the one that passed judgement. The wife may have been fully aware of the fact that he may be Bi (he had been caught sexting both men and women in the past).
Heck, who are you to tag him as being Gay? Did he announce that he was. You seem to enjoy passing judgement.

I have no issue with the fact that he was attracted to someone, of legal age, who is half his age. I hate that the articles all mention that the kid “was” 17 and he “is” 40… he would have been 38 at the time.

        • j.martindale

No. You called him a sleaze. Your words. Don’t accuse me of being judgmental.

          • Irish856

            I still call him sleazy.

You called him Gay and that his marriage failled… yet you have no proof to either… you judged him and you “assumed” that both were facts.
            Prove that they are facts.

          • j.martindale

No, I suggested hypotheticals. No judgment involved.

          • Irish856

Actually you “suggested” NOTHING… you stated and accused me… Indeed him too
“So often we get gay people castigating other gay people whose marriages failed”
You do not have a clue… they could have an open marriage and she was aware.
You not only said that his marriage failed but you said he was Gay… how about proof… It looks like he could be Bi (or do yo not believe that Bi people exist?)

        • j.martindale

As for the daughter’s suffering, if the man had an affair with a woman, no one would bat an eye. But he approached a young man. That is what the daughter will be ashamed of and ridiculed for by her classmates? Think that one through.

          • Irish856

If a 38 yo public figure would not leave a 17 yo alone no matter if it was a man or woman and they they were all straight, this child would have the same issue. The big “scandal” for people is more the age difference then the fact that both the 17 yo and the adult chatted consensually (until the guy wanted threesomes etc). That is the issue… the gay part just makes it show up on gay news sites.

  • Ninja0980

Want to bet he fought against protections for LGBT people tooth and nail?
Show me someone who fights against our rights and I’ll show you someone who is either a closet case or is sleeping with people other then their spouse left and right.

    • Schlukitz

That would be a very interesting fact to know.

  • TexasBoy

I’m divided on this. I mean, obviously the guy is two-faced, and probably a self-loathing gay or bi guy…but if it wasn’t a crime under Louisiana law, I think using a rarely invoked federal law is a stretch. Again, I am NOT condoning what he did, and I don’t mind this type of person being exposed for what he is…but to be fair, would he be in trouble with the FBI if he were not who he is?

    • Schlukitz

And had it been a 17 year old girl, it would probably never have become an issue.

  • Silver Badger

17 is not a young child. Always ask for ID.

    • ShawnSwagger

True. I was getting into bars and getting served alcohol when I was 15. I had been shaving since I was 11, and I was tall for my age, so I would just leave some stubble and wear something old-ish like a cardigan and slacks and presto change-o! Sometimes they’d card me, but you’d be surprised how many didn’t.

      • Schlukitz

Back in the fifties and as a teenager, that was my experience as well.

    • Rillion

17 is also legal where this happened.

  • NO MORE GOP!

What a shame Yenni couldn’t find somebody his own age (+/-) to play with. He’s attractive enough in an overly clean-cut generic Republican way. A shaved head, some facial hair, some tats, a couple of scars, and some piercings and he’d be downright presentable (barring his personal choices, of course).

  • bkmn

Another str8 identifying male busted for child molesting…color me shocked.

    • Rillion

Nothing in the article indicates molested a child.

    • Schlukitz

You’re distorting the facts. There was no “molestation”. Only texting.

  • LarryChemEngr

It’s gross that this is even “news”. This is in the category of “none of our business”. Sheer tabloid garbage.

The younger man was not underage. They did not even have sex. There was no coercion, no intimidation, no anything except a hot, kind older guy propositioning a younger guy. So, the younger guy said, no, and that was it. Except two years later, he is now having a hissy fit.

The only issue is that the guy has some serious explaining to do with his wife, which is none of our business.

It seems that just because the guy is a conservative Republican, he is an automatic enemy. There is nothing in the story about him being anti-gay.

    Enough already!

    • ScubaBearLA

I agree with you Larry. We aren’t privy to the details of their marriage; getting to play with boys of legal age occasionally may be an understanding they have, and either way that’s totally their own business. This guy only deserves scorn if he’s being a hypocrite in his job as a politician, and no one so far has cited any evidence of that.

      • Ben in Oakland

Ummm, he’s a ,ember of the GOP, and they support all of that anti gay stuff?

    • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

Ha, ha. Okay. So you think a an anti-gay, “family” values politician trolling for underage ass is no biggie? The only person who’d make excuses for this douche weasel are creeps like him.

      • Schlukitz

        He was not underage.

        • J Ascher

That’s really a technicality: the teen was able to consent under Louisiana law, but he wasn’t an adult either.

          • Schlukitz

            And your point is?

      • BobSF_94117

I haven’t found a single bit of evidence that he’s a “family-values” politician. He seems to avoid hot-button issues in favor of — hold onto your chairs because he’s a Republican — good government. Granted, his idea of good government seems to be to do more with less (money, staff, etc.) but he seems to accept the idea that govt has an important role to serve the public. He’s making me nostalgic for ole-time GOPers (not that I’d ever vote for one).

  • Secure

Louisiana dudes are always horndogs. Must be all the French bloodlines.

    • I resemble that remark..

    • Ben in Oakland

      Probably the French poodles.

  • Gregory Peterson

I was seduced by a politician

    ALEX DAIGLE

He had a wife and a young child

I don’t know too many 18-year-olds who can say they’ve been seduced by a politician.

Some background: I come from a good, Catholic family from Louisiana, where I learned how to be both a Christian and a Southern gentleman. And, although my family was very supportive, I also learned, all too quickly, how to keep my gay lifestyle on the DL while attending an all-male high school.

Secretly, I was fairly active in the gay community. Starting junior year of high school, I made connections with mostly college guys around the city. I had a semi-normal dating life.

    http://thetab.com/us/brown/2016/02/02/seduced-by-a-politician-638

The summer after my high school graduation, I was working a minimum wage mall job when I was approached by a man who said, almost fatherly, as I was eating a cookie, “Caught you with your mouth full?”

Want to clarify what this letter has to do with the topic at hand?

      • Itsatarp

The answer you seek is in the last sentence.

      • Gregory Peterson

        Read the second link.

    • William

      “Kevin” sounds pretty messed up.

  • Mark

Being the age of consent is 17 – this isn’t a crime. I see it more of a political smear (or at least a moral media smear). I’m not defending him – but I am skeptical that the publication of the relationship has its own end game.

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Too bad Yenni didn’t come to terms with his sexuality. But who knows? And who besides his wife should care?

    • LeeCMH

For me, it all depends on his government record regarding LGBT issues.

If he was antigay, then, yes, out him.

      • david fairfield

        Agreed.

      • Johnny Wyeknot

Yes, if he were anti-gay. But my sense is that would have been made part of the article.

  • ExGayTherapyKills

Didn’t he want to be a Catholic priest?

    • LeeCMH

      He attended a Catholic school.

    • Schlukitz

      “Shit, I said hell.”

      “Hell, I said shit”

“Oh fuck it. I didn’t want to be a priest anyway.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Wait, it’s fall and that’s supposed to mean new shows, not re-runs….sheesh, GOPTV is so not Netflix.

  • Ore Carmi

Is he anti-gay? If not, I don’t see that this should be news here. Being Republican is not grounds for outing.

    • LeeCMH

I cannot find any references, yet, showing Yenni’s record on gays. Folks are checking.

If so, he can joins the ranks of Larry “Wide-Stance” Craig and George “Carry-My-Bags” Rekers among many.

    • Randy503

He is part of the GOP. The GOP is officially anti-gay. Doesn’t matter if he votes against us, the entire party is against us. And presumably he is a Republican precisely BECAUSE he agrees with what it stands for.

  • LesbianTippingHabits

The real question is, how does Mike Yenni tip?

Remember, tips are good karma. And karma never lies. Thank you.

  • Jim Foy

As the 17 yr old piss’s on him he balls up in a fetal position crying for his Mother & Gods redemption!

  • StuckNtexas

His word is his bond[age]. Feel sorry for the wife & the victim(s).

    • TexasBoy

Victim? The 17 yo male was at the age of consent. Doubt he was naive.

  • DavidAZ

How does that old saying go…’the only way he can lose an election in Louisiana is if he’s caught in bed with a dead girl or a live boy.’

  • sfmike64

But seriously. I feel sorry for the guy’s wife.

Even 40 years ago, when I lived there, the New Orleans area, and Jefferson Parish in particular, were well known for the NAMBLA adherents. I would be surprised if that has changed much since.
I never understood it, but knew several people who were into that.

    • BobSF_94117

Why in the world are you bringing up NAMBLA? It’s bad enough when our opponents do it. A 17yo is NOT a prepubescent child.

  • Mark

    cajun men?…..mmm.mmmm.good.

  • Rt1583

I wonder how long it will be before he comes out and says he’s going to leave it all in gods hands or that he backslid (just a smidge) or some other trite Christians bullshit?

  • Friday

One of these days the GOPers will realize that joining the party of anti-LGBT hate/”Family Values” … doesn’t hide anything anymore.

  • Dee

Waiting for him to say he prayed and Jesus Lord has forgiven his sins. Amen.
    Fucking hypocrite.

  • LeeCMH

    Livingston, Vitter and now Yenni.

  • StraightGrandmother

Actually I am rather prudish, not prone to believe gay rumors/innuendo, however buying designer underwear from a mature man to a young man, that seems pretty telling to me. I can’t see any straight man ever doing that.

  • Kenner, LA … the city’s motto is “Old enough to bleed is old enough to breed.” Thankfully it’s also on the wrong side of the river.

    • ECarpenter

A 17 year old is mature enough to decide who to have sex with. I don’t know anyone who wasn’t ready to make those decisions at 17. It’s well past puberty.

  • JohnInCA

So upon hearing something that, even at it’s worst, wasn’t a crime, the FBI decided to investigate anyway?

Yeah, that sounds on the up-and-up.

  • John Calendo

The important issue here — the only issue — is hypocrisy.

Did this elected official work against gay civil rights? The article doesn’t say, and Joe hasn’t provided one of his helpful addendas.

Yenni is GOP, which in itself is incriminating. Nevertheless, in these videos, he seems like a likable enough guy. So the question remains did he run on anti-gay measures? Did he go on about Family Values, code for my way or the highway. As the article points out, 17 is legal in Louisiana. If there’s no political hypocrisy here then this is an issue between husband and wife. Cf. the Clintons.

    • ECarpenter

I agree. Being Republican is not automatic proof of hypocrisy – there are now, and have been in the past, some Republicans who didn’t use gay issues to drum up hate.

Is this guy a gay basher?

  • GG EE
