Ivanka Stars In New Trump Campaign Ad [VIDEO]

ABC News reports:

With 39 days left until voters head to the polls, Donald Trump’s eldest daughter, Ivanka, is now headlining a television ad on behalf of her father’s campaign. According to the campaign, the ad will begin airing in the coming days nationwide on cable and in key battleground states targeting women voters.

“The most important job any women can have is being a mother,” Ivanka Trump says in the spot. She also discusses her father’s proposals for working families and childcare tax deductions. “This will allow women to support their families and further their careers,” she says. Just a few weeks ago, Ivanka hit the trail with her father as he released his plan for childcare for working families.

That, plus her daddy wants to feel up her titties.

      You’re implying he hasn’t already

      • EweTaw

        That just creeps me out.

        • another_steve

Hey, that could be the next President of the United States you’re talkin’ about.

          • EweTaw

No it couldn’t. Thinking like that is giving in to madness!

          • TuuxKabin

He gives in to the gin, since 10am.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

I feel icky just looking at that. Seriously, wicked icky.

      • Ernest Endevor

        That is so disgusting.

      • cleos_mom

Somehow, that doesn’t bring up memories of sitting in my Dad’s lap as a kid.

        Can’t imagine why.

  • Michael Smith

*Spends week attacking a woman then puts out an ad targeting women*

    • Bruno

      Rinse & repeat.

      • Reality.Bites

Rinse & repeat is not a good idea if you’re using old bong water like Trump is.

        • Bruno

No one wants orange Cheeto backwash.

        • Christopher

          That’s it!

Give the oversized Oompa Loompa a bong water enema! Maybe that’ll chill him the fuck out!

  • Bruno

I know she’s his daughter but she is really fucked in the head if she believes her dad is going to be in any way good for women.

    • j.martindale

Can’t blame the kids for their parents. Walk around this ad. Don’t give it press. Focus on the candidate.

      • Bruno

I’m not blaming them for their parents. I’m blaming them for supporting a horrendous and dangerous candidate.

        • j.martindale

Kids don’t select their parents, though, which is why I give them a pass. The boys’ addiction to killing endangered species–open game.

      • licuado de platano

An adult in her 30s can determine whether or not to support their father. She’s supporting him 100%, so the hell with her.

      • cleos_mom

Good advice but you didn’t follow it.

    • JW Swift

Of course he will. But just the hot ones.

    • teeveedub

Those children have an entirely myopic view of life, having lived in the Trump bubble for their entire lives, including their work lives.

    • Rich people live in a bubble. She’s a very good example of a rich bubble-head.

    • Sykler

Don’t say “fucked in the head” in this context, please.

  • Texndoc

What explanation could it be that Melania is kept silent and two feet behind him other than that she polls horribly with women.

I’d really like to know what the alt-reich thinks. You know Ivanka married a Jew and I’m sure that could be remedied.

    • another_steve

One shudders to think what Steve Bannon thinks of Ivanka’s conversion to Judaism.

He’s probably on a heavy sedative dose, to allow him to function despite and past that.

      • teeveedub

Steve Bannon has all the earmarks of a low-rent wet-brain drunk. The sedatives are likely being washed down with liberal gulps of grocery store brand rot-gut.

And am I detecting, from your statement about Ivanka, that you’re assuming that Bannon capable of rational thought? Silly you.

        • another_steve

If he drinks rot-gut, I forgive him.

I’m a pensioner and can’t always afford the good stuff myself.

    • shrumpi

Melania is on a ton of fucking meds these days after her pummelling at the DNC convention. She can barely walk unassisted…

      • another_steve

Girl has been out of sight on the campaign trail. Doin’ long-range planning, I suspect.

Trump wife #4 can’t be far away, and there’s the Boobie Circuit for her to consider, regarding her future support and welfare.

        • shrumpi

There are lots of eligible hot Eastern European 17 year-olds with better tits.

      • teeveedub

Of course, she going to be giving that press conference any day now about her immigration status.

        • shrumpi

Honest to God…she is now questioning her decision to be a gold digger.

        • Bad Tom

She’ll have that pressor on the neverth of November.

    • ShawnSwagger

That non-explanation letter from the lawyer about her immigration status at the time she was modelling in the US, plus that weird, inexplicable statement that said that she had been married before she married Trump, plus her invisibility since then means they REALLY, REALLY don’t want anybody digging into that part of her history.

      • Hank

If they go after Bill Clinton and his past, then watch out Melania!!!

      • Bad Tom

Which is exactly why someone should.

    • Silent? She has only been seen ONCE since the convention and that was Monday night. She’s not only silent. She’s invisible. If she opens her mouth someone will ask her about working on a tourist visa.

    • Jim

When Romney was running, his wife was hidden away for the rest of the campaign after her horrid TV interview where she complained that it was so tough for them in the beginning of their marriage, that they had to dip into their trust funds to get by!

  • Sam_Handwich

    wow, that is fuckin desperate

  • Luis De California

Her plan was already exposed as only benefiting some parents, that’s why she had to keep releasing follow up answers saying Yes No Yes regarding same-sex parents.

    • zhera

Aww, look at you in your wool sweater! ♥

      • Luis De California

        Thanks 🙂

But it’s a shirt, actually, but most people think it’s really a sweater which is great.

The letter from my Norwegian friends said: I know you wanted a lusekofte sweater, but in a quick trip to plaza, we didn’t see any that really stood out but we saw this and since you live in the desert I thought you’d be able to wear it more often.

I’ll be wearing it with some colorful pants to our first ever Pride here on the 8th. Imperial County has a history of being home to the conservative wing of the Democrats in the state so this is a big deal here 🙂 I’ll show you the photos when it happens 😀

        • zhera

Good choice! I’m about to get out my winter wools for the season. For six months: Nothing but wool. My mother is a knitting machine, which helps. 😉

          • Luis De California

I’m still pining for a sweater though, I love Norwegian designs.

By the way, on gaysir people ask me:

Er du norsk? Har du familie i Norge? Connection to Norway? Nei?!

They say they are impressed with my writing 🙂 It’s the easiest part and I’m practicing saying more things; the hardest will be understanding – there was one accent I heard where it seemed like only every other consonant was being pronounced 🙂

          • zhera

Luis, there are Norwegian dialects I don’t understand.

Har du planer om å reise til Norge?

          • Luis De California

Ja, kanskje 2017. Jeg maa finne en jobb forst 🙂

This isn’t the time for Orthodox women to be worrying about elections. It’s the High Holy Days, already! (You can tell that I am Gentile, eh?)

        • another_steve

Your usage of the word “already” at the end of a sentence like that reflects keen insight into traditional Jewish speaking custom and syntax. Kudos to you.

          Another example would be:

          “Oy…stop with the whining already!”

Jews also use the word “better” at the ends of sentences to convey the idea of “it would be better if….”

“Let’s go to the Chinese on the corner instead of the take-out place, better.”

We just watched the movie (Netflix streaming) Women He’s Undressed. It is about Orry-Kelly, the hollywood costume designer and Cary Grants first love. Great movie for some Hollywood insider stuff (and some pretty fantastic clothes).

          • Ernest Endevor

David Orry-Kelly was one of the great designers and fabricators of stars. Bette Davis’s favored designer.

          • Ernest Endevor

Heads up. Pretty silly stuff. Even the title is wrong. Should be Women He Undressed, Forgive me, I’ve made my life in the theatre and am attuned to the work of designers. David Orry-Kelly is one of the most underrated of the great craftsmen who created the look of Hollywood. If you have’t seen it I urge you to watch The Last Emperor. It’s about Valentino and is on Netflix. He cites designers like Orly-Kelly as his inspiration. He’s also nuts. And has nine pugs with their own SUV. But as to great artists who go unrecognized today there is also the choreographer Robert Alton. Many films. He staged Porgy and Bess and repeated his original staging in Till Clouds Roll By. And such as. Take it from the 16 min mark.

Has she started doing “Granny Porn”? 😜 Things are looking up for her.

        • Lakeview Bob

I was kinda thinking the same thing. I was wondering if she was making new porn. Because she is way past her expiration date with tRUMP.

        • RoFaWh

          Impossible.

    • Nowhereman

She was seen briefly at the debate, but I don’t think they allowed her to talk to anyone.

      • Lakeview Bob

I expect that will start becoming an issue in coming days or weeks.

Where is the world is Melania tRUMP?

the most important job a woman can have is being a mother….

Yep, the sexist and misogynistic Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree, even if it happens to be female Apple.

    • ShawnSwagger

Well, I don’t blame her for believing that, if she really does believe that. I have a cousin who did great in college and grad school, worked in both the public and private sector for a while and when she had her first kid decided to be a stay-at-home mom, for exactly that reason. Her employer begged and begged her to come back at least part time, because she was just that good at her job. She’s one of the smartest people I’ve personally known and she really does believe that being a full-time mom, at least until the kids are in high school, is the most important job in the world.

      • Lindoro Almaviva

Choices. My mother made the same choice after I was born and stayed home until I was in kindergarten. My brother and sister followed me soon (we were born in close succession) and she returned to work. I believe the operative word there is choices…..

      • zhera

        Nothing wrong with that. 🙂

Telling others that being a mother is what women should have as their highest goal, that’s wrong.

O/T: Chicago Sun Times endorses Hillary: “Today, we endorse Hillary Clinton for president, and we endorse her early. The best way to avert a train wreck is to wave a warning flag as soon as possible.”
    http://chicago.suntimes.com/opinion/editorial-vote-for-clinton-and-avert-a-train-wreck/

    • RoFaWh

Off-topic aside: railroads still flag trains under certain circumstances. If they’re about to go through a grade crossing and the warning lights & gates are on the fritz, the train stops, the conductor gets out with a small red flag (perhaps 12″ on a side) and walks across the crossing with it, the train following slowly.

Few drivers have any idea what the man with the red flag is doing, however.

PS: That phrase “the train stops” is misleading since it can take a mile or more for a freight train to stop.

    • DaddyRay

      So to summarize

We wake up to hear Trump tried to slut shame the Ms Universe contestant in 3:00 am tweets overnight

The accusation turns out to be inaccurate –
“The alleged ‘sex tape’ Trump urged followers to ‘check out’ is non-explicit footage from a Spanish reality-TV show in which the Venezuelan model supposedly had sex with a fellow participant.”

Trump Ignores the fact that his wife actually has produced soft porn which we have all seen

And we end the day with…

Donald Trump Appeared In A 2000 Playboy Softcore Porn

You just can’t make this stuff up

      • Blake J Butler

And this is who the Evangelicals are getting behind ? Yes that pun was intended, i just find it hilarious that these people that constantly boast about how religious they are, and how everyone else is trash in comparison to them, will go ahead and support a guy that is very much the opposite of what they believe, unless you count their love for the almighty dollar, and would have that in common with another grifter.

SCOTUS appointments and access to power take a back seat to the Jebus.

The talibanjelicals are being guilt-ed from the pulpit, I’ve lost track of how many of them brazenly declare, how dare they judge Trump, the instrument god will use to bring about a godly reign.

The damage done to your family’s reputation is virtually irreversible and you might want to consider long and hard as to how far you want to go down the rabbit hole with him and your vapidly rabid brothers. “The most important job any women can have is being a mother”
    So, for women who:
    1) Chose to not kids, you’re not important.
    2) Can’t have kids, you’re not important.
    3) Aren’t allowed to claim your kids as your own because you’re in a same sex relationship, you’re not important.
    4) Opt to have a business or try to handle one before having a kid, you’re not important.
    5) Don’t fit into my idea of motherhood, you’re not important.
But if you’re a man, fuck being a good father. That’s not important at all.
    Bitch.

    • Lazycrockett

Well lets be honest this ad is targeted towards white suburban women with children which Drumpf desperately needs if hes going to win.

      • ByronK

And that will be so effective because I’m sure so many white suburban women identify with Ivanka “size 4” Trump. Well, unless they’ve had creepy relationships with their fathers.

      • Cuberly

True, but even then, it’s a stretch.

      • The_Wretched

I hope they can tell that Ivanka is part of the Trump campaign and see the buckets of slop he’s throwing at them.

    • TampaDink

That statement jumped out at me, as if she were trying to say something about Hillary not being a mother. I hope that her b.f.f., Chelsea will send her a note, reminder Ivanka that she HAS a mother too….and like Ivanka, her mother can do more than one thing at a time.

    • ByronK

Thank you, my thoughts as well. It’s like the entire Trump clan and conservative in general are clinging desperately to some Leave It to Beaver standard of a woman’s role, backed up over the years by traitors to the female sex like Phyllis Shoefly. They’re objects, possessions. It was interesting that Trump referred to Alicia Machado as “his” pageant winner. Trump has not only ripped off the cover on racism in America, he’s done the same for deep seated and systemic misogyny.

  • MikeBx2

Trump is being described today as “losing it”, “full melt down” and of course “unhinged”. He won’t commit to the NYT that he will support Clinton if she wins. “We’re going to have to see”, he says. https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/836234010558a0db5a5cd3b34c59f9065bd030b8d6878eeae0fbcab47574ba6e.jpg

      • popebuck1

A boy scout who won Miss Universe? Wow, he really WAS prepared!

    • Not hyperbole: I think Trump is on the verge of a psychotic break. Maybe being exacerbated by extreme insomnia and amphetamine abuse.

No sane person is awake at 3:30am obsessing about a personal slight delivered four days before. And compared to all the other stuff in the debate, including Clinton’s almost consistent refusal to call him anything but Donald, it was relatively minor.

It’s looooong been theorized Trump is basically a textbook case of extreme (and untreated) narcissistic personality disorder, with a number of sub-type symptoms more prevalent than others (such as the inability to admit he was ever wrong about anything). This kind of thing though has been getting worse over the last few months. First it was Curiel, then the Khans, now Ms. Machado. Each time, Donald’s reaction was even more unhinged than the last.

I’m not saying I mind watching this particular man self-destruct, but damn… a Presidential candidate doing it? Never before in my half-century on this planet have I witnessed anything even remotely like it.

      • Ernest Endevor

Fingers crossed. Let’s hope it happens on prime time.

O/T but it should be noted that this month, judges on the 2nd, 3rd and 9th circuit have either taken senior status (a form of semi-retirement) or have retired altogether.

  • “The most important job any woman can have is being a mother,” Ivanka Trump says in the spot.

Joe, please forgive me, but I’m about to let loose.

Fuck you, you anti-feminist skanky b*tch.

The most important job right now that one particular woman can have is to become the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES!

Women who do not have children are not lesser human beings than those who do, you wealthy, self-entitled Daddy’s Little Whore, whose value, by your own father’s standards, rests almost entirely in your looks, not your abilities, knowledge, or experience.

How’s it feel, you pathetic cloth-eared bint, to know that your father had women FIRED from his restaurants because they weren’t pretty enough for him?

How does it make you feel, you blind idiot, to learn that your father nearly drove one of his beauty pageant contestants to suicide because her weight gain gave him what he felt was total dominion over her body? And what do you think about the fact it’s this one woman, 20 goddamned years later, who so obsesses him, he’s not losing sleep over the fact he’s running for President, but because he isn’t done trying to humiliate her, for the mere mention of this woman’s name — Alicia Machado — humiliated him for just a few brief minutes.

And what do you think of a man who praised your breasts and legs when you were an infant?

In short, fuck off you stupid lick-taint woman. You have NOTHING to share with the rest of us because you have no fucking clue what it’s really like to be discriminated against, as a woman, by misogynistic chauvinist pigs like your father.

But I’ll say something less harsh in closing: Have you ever wondered why it’s your brothers who actually run your father’s business empire and enjoy far more of its plundered rewards than you do?

Becca, you wrote: “Joe, please forgive me, but I’m about to let loose.”

I see nothing in what you wrote to apologize for.

      Oh, and thank you.

      • I used a few words which are generally frowned upon here, considered particularly derogatory towards women…but if this Ivanka is going to lecture the rest of us women on our priorities — by someone who herself clearly doesn’t put her own family and being a mother ahead of everything else — I think she deserves them.

Plus I’m an old hippy chick which I think earns me a few liberties. 😉 I hope anyway.

        • Ross

          Old hippy chick?

          EXTRA POINTS!

        • agcons

I don’t think you need to apologise for your letting loose, nor do I think it necessary for you to have earned your liberties. You’ve always had them, as we all have.

I’m a middle-aged WASP male, which means all kinds of privileges were granted to me simply by being born, and of which I would likely still be unaware if I hadn’t decided to start paying much closer attention to what was going on around me decades ago.

Your post above is spot-on. This “plan” of Drumpf’s is utter horseshit, and Ivanka’s support of it is risible. It would be a good thing if she were to start paying much closer attention to what goes on around her, too.

I cannot upvote this enough. Like me, you heard the first line of this smarmy, condescending, sexist, repulsive ad and went ballistic. Talk about pure Duggarism. And that’s before it even gets to the repuke snake oil.

Anyway I’ll keep it short cuz you said everything for me.

However, let me add my very own FUCK YOU IVANKA.

      • It was repulsive beyond measure. And thanks. I just can’t imagine what it’s like to be so lacking in empathy, so blind as to realize that a whole lot of women do not derive their self-worth on whether they’ve had babies and are currently raising them.

An infertile woman is not of less value than one who is. A woman who has chosen not to have children isn’t either. Nor is a woman whose childbearing years are long over, as is the case with Secretary Clinton. Nor a young woman who has had an abortion or who just gave up a baby for adoption for whatever her reasons might be.

Then I realized who exactly raised Ivanka to believe all these things. The man who no doubt sees his multiple wives and lovers as nothing more than brood mares, whose top purpose in life is to provide male heirs for rich, racist, eugenics-admiring bastards like Donald Trump.

        • bzrd

I think you forgot to say the Kvnt Ivanka has a father who finds pregnant women a drag and after the children are born, the woman is unattractive to him.

as for the rest of what you said, fckin’ A, Becca

        • johncAtl

I think the children were accidents. The primary purpose of the wives is to be seen as a beautiful woman standing next to him.

          • I don’t believe that’s the case, John. I watched that Frontline special about the two candidates — and Donald’s a firm believer, just like his father was, in human eugenics. Just like the Nazis did.

Sure, much of Donald’s fucking around is based in false machismo and pride. But he really did want his “superior genes” (sic) to be carried forward by what he thought were superior combinations of himself and beautiful women.

          • johncAtl

I’ll go along with that. But something must have gone horribly wrong with Eric Trump. In most pictures he looks like he’s in makeup for Planet of the Apes.

          • Yeah…but that’s aristocratic inbreeding for you. Eventually, the recessives express themselves.

          • tishtosh

I will hold back on my words about 10 yr old son Barron, but have to say that his behavior is not normal. I watched him closely during the convention, playing and replaying every clip of him. He could not pay attention to his dad, had no interest in the proceedings or their importance, and was kept entertained by video games in order to get him to sit still. His gaze would wander upward and all over the ceiling, and his face was expressionless.
When he walked on the stage, he exhibited a pronounced sway, back and forth, in his gait, not usual for a child. I compared him to the other children in the family, and they were bright and lively, normal.
When his dad tried to embrace his shoulders, he shrugged off his touch, as something unwanted.
I feel a certain pity for Melania, if she is carrying the burden of a special needs, emotionally challenged child, in addition to being a wife who (and this is a whole other subject) does not appear to be liked by her husband.
If you listened carefully to Donald’s language, he gushed over Ivanka, but had nothing praiseworthy to say about Melania. I think he is tired of her, but needs the arm jewelry to maintain his social status. I can guarantee you they have separate suites, and visiting nights proscribed by the prenuptial. Oh well, at least she has chosen the golden cage in which she remains imprisoned.

          • Gustav2

She knew the exact price of of the sale.

          • StraightGrandmother

Interesting observations on Baron. And as an aside, who the Hell names their child “Baron?”

I only saw him on stage and I thought also that he wasn’t quite engaged. 10 years old is pretty old, you may be bored out of your mind waiting in the wings, so to speak, but once you hit the stage you should do one of two things. Embrace it, wave and love the spotlight, or be shy and run to mamma. Baron did neither of these things, I also had an odd feeling about the child.

          • RoFaWh

My mother’s youngest sister never married, but remained home to take care of my grandmother. This far from typical maiden aunt from a boil until gray WASP family learned to cook from Julia Child’s books in the early 60s, long before anyone else, including puff pastry. Was she less of a woman for never having married/giving birth? OH, btw, the evidence she left behind of the nude drawings of her by her BF indicates she was no puritan. The consensus of my cousin and myself is that she told him after a while to get lost because he was married, and she wouldn’t play second fiddle. Less of a woman?

Agree. Women are not livestock or baby machines. We are people, each with our own individual value. Motherhood is NOT the most important job… not unless you want to make sure your own race or religion outbreeds all the rest. That’s what that “motherhood” slogan is really all about, isn’t it?

      • I have the utmost respect for parents. I truly do. Those who are so committed to the idea of giving their kids a whole lot of extra attention? Terrific, I think every mother — and every father — should have that choice.

But Ivanka would offer this particular child care tax deduction and (under)paid leave for women — and as proposed, really would only benefit wealthier families. Plus it’s a pittance, stealing money from all the unemployed to pay for the paid leave part at a rate only a tiny fraction of what someone actually needs after such an expensive medical event.

Her father doesn’t believe in equal pay for equal work laws. Doesn’t believe in gender-based anti-discrimination laws. And as we’ve witness for his entire adult life, only values women for our looks, not for our abilities.

I don’t know about the slogan. But I know paternalistic misogyny when I see it…and yes, it can come from other women.

      • cleos_mom

I’ve been hearing for decades that parenting is (1) the hardest job in the world and (2) the most important job in the world.

If either is true, let alone both, most people shouldn’t be attempting it. At home or anywhere else.

Then again most people hate Trump, so i can assume most people would have a similar reaction like they would to fireworks.

      • Blake J Butler

        Midterms ?

    • Bruno

I’ve seen anecdotal evidence of this as well. One Bernie person I know was like “OK, I’m over my Bern. I’m with her!” after the debate. It won’t be everybody, but hopefully a fair amount of converts.

      • Blake J Butler

I’m a member of a progressive group on facebook called Bros4Hillary. Members posted this week after the debate that family members in their families that had sworn that they would vote for Stein because they saw her as being more progressive than Hillary, turned a leaf over and said they were onboard to vote for Hillary because of how bad Trump performed at the debates, how it was going to come down to the two of them and not the three of them. Several similar stories were like that happening this week.

        • Bruno

Stein is capsizing and sinking. 4% among young people is a lethal number, and that’s the highest % you listed.

    • houstonray

That’s great news but now they need to get out and vote!!!

      • Blake J Butler

Motivation and urgency of how important it is. This is where the Obama’s and Sanders is key.

Young Republicans in Virginia must really be going for Johnson instead of tRump. Huge number he’s got there comparatively.

  • popebuck1

At least she has credibility. Because, you know, she’s not an uggo or a chubbo.

  • TampaDink

And one more thing. Those child care tax credits are only beneficial for families who earn enough money that they meet the minimum tax bracket. Those working poor families, struggling the most do not qualify for this tax credit bullshit.

    • Cuberly

The trumpanzees don’t care. They just don’t want another gubmint program or taxes. Besides Ivanka’s purdy! Can she say tax credit agin?

      • TampaDink

Keep your socialist hands off of my social security!

  • Skokieguy [Larry]

Remember women, if you are harassed on the job, just get a different job!

And my Dad’s tax plan for child care is a tax deduction, so if you’re lower income it means nothing, but if Daddy is a billionaire and uses the limo to take you to private $20K a year daycare, its deductible. That’s how to make America great!

    • The other part of Trump’s plan is to steal money from the unemployment insurance funds all over the country to pay that as the ‘6 weeks paid leave’ feature. In other words, not even the usual 2/3 disability pay rate, but far, far less even than that.

Plus, in their system, only women who’ve just had babies are eligible. Not fathers. Not gay male parents. Nobody who’s just adopted an infant which, last I checked, need exactly as much attention early on.

Plus this whole system locks in Trump’s sexist complaint about pregnancies, that it’s an inconvenience for employers — with exactly only one type of employee to draw possible ire. Namely pregnant women.

  • ByronK

Just struck by a thought – I think Trump views his daughter as just a possession and a reflection of himself. Everything he talks about is an extension of his ego and I don’t think his children are any different. His praise of her beauty – he’s responsible for it. Any of this children’s success – he’s responsible for it. He is like a Freudian black hole that sucks all energy into himself. That’s not to say that the relationship isn’t skin-crawlingly creepy but when you put it in the context of his view and treatment of women, it makes sense. He owns them and they are disposable if they gain to much weight, or if he gets bored, or if something else catches his eye and like a crow, he just darts to the shiny thing. He lacks self control which is interesting for someone who doesn’t drink – although as Dean raised – what does he do? But either way his view of the sexes, relationships, and power dynamics are fucked. And is he any different than Bill Clinton? There have been many articles written about how men in positions of power risk everything for a sexual conquest aka Weiner. From all appearances, Trump is not exempt from that phenomenon or is his coven of old white Conservative men. I so want to see him raise the subject of infidelity in the next debate as I cram popcorn into my mouth.

    • bzrd

He is different from Bill. Golden Gordo doesn’t like women and says so repeatedly in many different ways. He just likes his daughter, as you said, because she is his DNA.

    • RoFaWh

I wonder if The Sniff Incident happened because someone suggested to Drumpf that he would have more energy to face Ms. Clinton if he took some coke.

It may have been a one-time use, not an addiction.

But I wouldn’t bet on that.

  • DumbHairyApe

Is it just me, or does anyone else thing that Ivanka is kind of homely?

        • TuuxKabin

No PIE for you. Tho you are correct. He does look like he’s in make up for Planet of The Apes. So, for that you can have PIE.

          • johncAtl

I don’t have any PIE at home, but I do have about a third of a bottle of wine left. It’s just as good. Wine is made from grapes. Grapes are fruit. Fruit is used in PIEs.

          • TuuxKabin

Drink on. Thought you were more of a beer drinker. Either way. Salud.

          • DumbHairyApe

          • TuuxKabin

Of course. Cherry. Strawberry/Rhubarb. Mixed Berry. Peach. Apple. Lemon. Lime. Pecan. Also available glutten free, which I do not recommend. And sugar free. But, why bother?

          • TuuxKabin

He’s a very clever man. Oh wait, you do mean the pair he’s wearing, right?

            Them’s the pair.

          • DumbHairyApe

          • TuuxKabin

Well, I guess we could manage that. Smear it, not fling it, no pie fight.

    • Deanobear

I wouldn’t say homely … more like that “inbred” kind of look … with good teeth tho 😜

Shows you why I hate Politico.
There is nothing even close to damning on this audio and if you read what she says, she is giving a honest answer about the problems facing young voters of today.
Trying to create this as some smoking gun is stupid.

    • Bruno

Politico is what’s passing for unbiased “journalism” these days. Same with CNN, MSNBC, Fox, etc.

    • MoonlightUnkindledOne

Yeah. I actually read a similar thing on the intercept. It was cited on a similar piece on Patheos by Dan Arel. Like you, I saw nothing damning at all. Even the parts cited in the intercept article show how she gets why Sanders supporters are frustrated. What’s frustrating is this reaching nonsense politico and others seem to be doing. Hell, months ago, I would have maybe agreed. This is coming from someone who was once one of those supporters.

    • johncAtl

So many people are getting under his thin skin in the past week he may shed it. I shudder to think what’s underneath.

    • Josh Marshall (TPM) has his ‘Trump’s Razor’ which says for Trump, the stupidest possible explanation for something is nearly always the correct one.

We now have a corollary: Whatever Trump accuses someone else of doing, no matter how low or vile, there is an extremely high chance he’s done it himself.

      • Rebecca Gardner

All RWNJs are masters of psychological projection.

        • Cuberly

Well, not masters as much as half the time, successful at duping the gullible.

      • ByronK

It really is remarkable how many things that Trump and his surrogates have accused HRC of when it’s more than obvious that they are the most guilty of. I couldn’t believe his spokesbimbos accusing Hillary of body shaming women because of the mirror ad. Or like the GOP accusing Obama of stoking racial tension and racism. Some might see it as a campaign tactic, I see it as a mental issue of chronic projection and denial.

        • Porkie

It worked so well with “swift-boating” that it has become their go to tactic.

      • RoFaWh

That corollary is no such thing. It is a fundamental law of physics.

    • I asked my very Manhattanite younger sister about what New Yorkers think of Tump and she said “He is all about hotels and resorts and condos and things and scamming others to make money. He always has been. We all know this. That is all this Presidential campaign is about. The rest of America will catch on”. Makes sense doesn’t it?

O/T but the stupid in this thread burns.
These young voters really, really don’t get how far back Trump and a Republican controlled Congress and Courts will set us back on all progressive issues, do they?

    • safari

They seem to have this fantasy, like many Trump supporters, that destroying the system will somehow improve it.

      • Bruno

Fuck them. I hope if tRump is elected, they’re the first ones to suffer.

        • Ninja0980

They will be since they are the future.

          • safari

The bitterness will be strong in them if Trump is elected.

          • It’ll be bitter as well if Clinton is. These types are incapable of seeing differences between two leaders who do not perfectly meet their impossibly far-left perfectionist demands — yet are blind to the flaws in those they do end up supporting.

Stein’s running mate has actually said Sanders and his supporters are racists and imperialist white supremacists. Stein herself admires Putin and was very chummy with him.

Meanwhile, with Johnson — the man perpetually living the film Memento — the only progressive position he has is drug legalization. Everything else is the GOP platform on steroids.

          • Ninja0980

Yup, and yet they excuse it because Bernie didn’t win even though he isn’t a pure saint either, not even close.

          • Bruno

To be fair, Johnson is pro-marriage equality and his “non-interventionist” ideals may fall closer to those on the left than the right. But he has a lot of shitty Republican policies, too, that no Sanders supporter in their right mind should give the time of day to. Plus, he’s at least twice as dumb as his running mate, who actually could’ve made a go of it.

          • Ninja0980

The problem is even on social issues, his idea is to let the market handle it.
            Not a chance.

          • Johnson is fine with gay people getting married.

He is also 100% behind the idea anybody can discriminate against those gay people, including government officials.

There’s pro-LGBT and then the sham version of it. Johnson is very much the latter. As a libertarian nutjob, he thinks there’s no need for anti-discrimination laws of any kind.

          • Bruno

He’s basically a dumber version of Rand Paul. And that’s hard to be.

          • ‘Xactly.

          • RoFaWh

The great, and greatly reviled, former premier of BC, W A C Bennett, put it this way:

            “Public money for public schools.”

        • I almost wish there was some kind of Black Mirror-esque immersive virtual reality in which we could strap these hapless, ignorant fools and make them watch the likely outcome of a societal and government collapse, as prompted by the election of a madman like Trump.

Then again, it would begin with the Internet shutting down and them being marched off to the concentration camps for failing to swear obeisance to Lord King Trump, First of His Name…and that’s where it would end. Maybe there’d be some wood chopping or mass grave digging.

Upside is the virtual world wouldn’t need much programming and could draw heavily on old Nazi camp designs, since that’s who Trump admires the most anyway.

          • Ninja0980

Not to mention a roll back of all LGBT, Reproductive and voting rights among other things.
But hey, it serves us right for not going along with St. Bernie right?

          • Bernie now supports Hillary, so they’ve declared him an Unperson.

          • Bruno

Yep. It’s not THEIR fault it’s ours. According to them. Fuck them. (Even the ones I still like).

      • johncAtl

And they don’t understand how little power the President actually has. She/he can propose and veto legislation, but that’s about it. Congress is steering the ship, and the President and Supreme Court are simply keeping them in check.

        • Ninja0980

Yup, and if Congress or Senate doesn’t want to do anything they won’t, no matter how many of them protest outside Republican offices etc.
You don’t vote, then people won’t listen to you in the end, simple as that.

          • Bruno

When have they ever protested Republicans? It’s always them protesting Democrats I see.

          • Ninja0980

Something a NY Time article mentioned.
Too many in our base want a perfect candidate but the standards they set are simply impossible to meet.

          • Bruno

Their only standards can be described as “Bernie or Bust.” They didn’t get what they want, so they’re quite happy to participate in the downfall of the country. Fuck them.

          • RoFaWh

Anybody who expects perfection in anything is a fool.

          • Ernest Endevor

I’m old enough to remember the ’68 Chicago convention that destroyed the party for years. For months after you’d see teenagers panhandling in the Village with ‘Just Back From Chicago’ signs proudly displayed. And let’s not forget all those who voted for Obama and then, as soon as he took office, reviled him because they didn’t get the right color unicorn and then stayed home watching The Daily Show instead of voting in the fucking mid-terms.

        • How much power a Constitutionally limited President has, one who has sworn to uphold, protect, and defend our tricameral system of government.

That would not be a Trump presidency. He’s all but declared Congress and the courts irrelevant, except insofar as he can force them to his bidding. Probably at gunpoint.

          • johncAtl

True. Of course should he go down that path he may find the guns pointed at him.

          • Let’s just say no matter how it went, the revolution would be bloody and the likelihood of positive outcomes very, very low.

          • Deanobear

            With Russian made/supplied guns.

What they also don’t understand is that the present system of government in the US has evolved over the last 250 years or so, and if you destroy it, it will take much the same length of time to get the country back to its present position.

    • Cuberly

Check out his twitter feed. Interesting mix. Hard core Jill Stein wack-a-doo.

Why waste the effort. He even admits he’s a shit disturber. His feed is a long strain of grievances, and Stein.

      • Bruno

        2%-if-she’s-lucky-on-Election-Day Stein.

        • Cuberly

Anyone for Stein is not worth the effort. Believe me.

          • Bruno

Right, I don’t bother. Though interestingly most of the busters I know haven’t really declared love for Stein. She actually did an immensely shitty job of getting the Bernie people in her corner, I guess just by being herself.

          • Cuberly

Most of the far left that I know, even the outer ring of acquaintances have acknowledged Trump is more dangerous.

Though I do know some former leftists from a now defunct magazine that have said they’ll never vote for Hillz. And, they’ll do what they do. As they always do.

          • Bruno

I think a lot of them feel more freedom to throw away their vote in California, and there’s probably some validity to that considering she has such a huge lead here. But it still irks me that they’re so blase about declaring their hate for her online where people from swing states may be looking.

  • Lazycrockett

OT Watching Chelsea with guest Gavin Newsom and it seems California is gonna legalize pot this November. That’s really going to tip the scale on a federal level.

    • safari

I’d like legalized pot in Michigan. Unfortunately our election board told the clerks that, despite their job, that they don’t have to certify signatures for the ballot. And then the GOP-led government changed the laws to make it harder to keep signatures, once collected valid. Then they claimed that the information necessary (voter registrations) were restricted and cannot be used by a third party to verify signatures.

      • Lazycrockett

Ohio had it on the ballot last year but it was a really bad bill that would have monopolized it to a very select group of people as growers. But really if California is legalizing it, the 9th largest economy, things are just going to go fall like dominoes.

        • safari

Oh, it will. Just after clawing from the citizens of my state.

      • johncAtl

Legalize it in Georgia and I’ll spend the next two minutes replying to you thinking it’s been two to three hours. That’s all it does for me is distort my sense of time.

        • safari

I’m a believer in strains. I’m not an expert, but different types to different things. Plus I find it a lot safer than alcohol.

          • johncAtl

I’m not certain about safer, but I think it should be regulated like alcohol. I don’t think there’s a breathalyzer for pot, but the police could simply check the car for empty Doritos bags. It would be as accurate.

          • safari

Alcohol will kill you if you drink too much in one sitting. Pot simply won’t. Alcohol, at least with me, makes me think “eh, it’ll be fine let’s go” where as pot makes me think “meh, I’m fine here”.

          • Ninja0980

Either way, never get behind the wheel after using.

          • safari

Definitely. But one makes me more nervous about ending up there when I partake because of how it affects me.

          • RoFaWh

And that, my dear fellow members of the JMG commentariat, is the biggest single objection to pot. I make a point of NOT driving if I’m stoned because I know I’m sorta fucked up when stoned and certainly not capable of driving safely.

Some mornings, I have to sit down and contemplate two questions: want to use pot today? And: need to go anywhere today? The answer to the second trumps the first. Pain in the ass, but necessary.

          • johncAtl

In that regard I agree. I took a young friend to New Orleans recently and like most 20-something year olds he got really drunk on the first night. I had to help walk him back to the hotel. And I stayed in his room reading a book for a couple of hours to make sure he stayed alive. Once he started moving around and breathing normally I went back to my room to sleep.

          • Lazycrockett

I just find it incredible relaxing and stress relieving. Enjoying it with friends while watching a movie or talking shit and laughing our asses off waiting for the PIZZA arrive.

          • RoFaWh

I overdosed on pot once. When I realized what I’d done, I went to bed, enjoyed the hallucinations while they were there, comfortable in the knowledge that all I had to do was wait a few hours and it would be over.

          • OdieDenCO

actually, the new strains do not induce the munchies unless specifically designed for weight gain. red eye and cotton mouth have largely been eliminated too

          • TuuxKabin

            Or PIE pans.

          • RoFaWh

Regulated like beer and wine, to be precise.

You can brew your own beer, or ferment your own wine, so why not allow individuals to grow their own (legal) pot?

Another detail, specially for pols who see pot as a tax windfall: don’t bet on it. Tax pot too heavily and users will simply go back to their usual dealers. Or grow it themselves.

I can’t say if brewing beer or making wine from scratch is more, or less, laborious than growing your own pot.

          • RoFaWh

Here, too. However, keep in mind that a given strain (say Pink Kush) may actually be one of several different strains that go under that one name.

        • Lazycrockett

I haven’t partaken in bout a decade, but it was of the best drugs I’ve experimented with. I would not mind retiring and enjoying the stuff on the regular.

          • safari

This is one of the few cross-partisian statements I’ve heard repeatedly in my life.

          • RoFaWh

That’s exactly what I’ve done, though I didn’t turn into a stoner until some years after retirement.

I have no real responsibilities other than feeding the cat and taking her to the vet, paying such bills as come in, and buying food. So why not smoke pot like a factory chimney in overdrive?

Doing laundry can wait; I own plenty of clothes. And housekeeping? Well, Quentin Crisp put it this way: the dust doesn’t get any worse after three years. [Or was that Erik Satie?]

        • RoFaWh

Yes, it does do that. Great during a sexual encounter when you think you’ve been involved in X for a couple of hours, but the clock says it’s only been ten minutes.

      • Wish they’d do it here, too. I’d love to be allowed to use it to treat my migraines.

        • safari

My ex did that. It might not help prevent them, but he wasn’t in bed with the curtains drawn for a day or two for the bad ones.

          • Let’s just say I miss it. A lot. For exactly that reason.

          • doctor proscribes Topirimate to me and it really works Its also called Topamax. Try it,.I take 2 x 50 mg when I get a bad headache.

          • Tried it. Doesn’t work. I very much appreciate the suggestion though.

Twice now though, when things got really bad, I decided to take a brief vaca in the state to our north. I do not bring anything home, because I could get in trouble in my line of work…but let’s just say those few brief days of complete relief sometimes feel like what keeps me going during the bad times. Some of the strains these days are miraculous.

I really, really hope my state legalizes someday. If not that, and if our business hits the big time (which there’s a non-zero chance it might), we’re thinking very seriously about moving to Oregon.

          • Bomer

Have you tried ergotamine? My Grandmother swears by it. When her migraines were really bad her doctor put her on it (this was when the only place she could get the RX filled was in Mexico) and she said it knocked her on her ass but it killed the migraines. You can get it in the U.S. now.

      • Hasn’t it been legal in Washtenaw County for decades? Ann Arbor has had the “hash bash” forever — I think in April and they have had legal pot for a very long time. The local police didn’t bother enforcing marijuana laws when I went to University there– and I remember someone telling me that the had legal marijuana since the 1970’s.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I’m OK with it because I mostly want more tax revenue, less imprisonment (therefore less $$$ going to prisons) and basically more people choosing a less nasty buzz than anything harder.

    • Nonsense.

The ONLY thing that will “tip the scales” Federally is if the REPUGLYkkkan Congress DE-Schedules Marijuana completely.

The DEA will NEVER do it administratively.

      • Lazycrockett

Honey nothing talks to the republicans like making coin.

      • RoFaWh

I laughed at the DEA’s recent nonsense about not legalizing marijuana — because it is a scheduled drug!

        Talk about circular reasoning!

  • Ivanka’s friendship with Chelsea is well known. I am sure they had a pow-wow to try to keep personal attacks out of the campaign. I actually believe Trump when he said (ruining the intent) that he did not mention Bill’s infidelities during the debate because it would embarrass Chelsea — and probably made some promise to Ivanka to that effect. The problem is that it is going to be much harder for Trump to keep personal attacks out of the debates, and he is too paranoid — and has too much of a narcissistic personality disorder (he is textbook) to not go overboard to any criticism.

    • Difference is Chelsea can probably influence her mom. Ivanka has a little of that, but not enough to keep her father from rage-tweeting phony sex-tape allegations at 3:30am. He simply does not have the impulse control to keep his promises to anybody.

      • BTW I REALLY hate rich men who dump their wives for younger, prettier models. I have ex bosses in consulting that pulled this. I hate them with a passion. In several cases these woman have had children with these men — I guess there are LGBT people who do this but I don’t know of any, just straight men with alot of money. They make my blood boil.

        • Lazycrockett

and lets not the sacrifices the wife has made in her own career to support her husband who once successful drops her like a hot potato. Fuck that scum.

          • Ninja0980

Yup, they put their dreams on hold only to be tossed aside like garbage.

        • Couldn’t agree more.

    • Lazycrockett

While the friendship my be in play I think that him divorcing Ivana sp? hit all of the 3 kids hard. I’m sure they know that if Drumpf plays that card the blow back is gonna bring up a lot of old memories and turn the bright spot light back on their mother, whom seems to want to be on a very low profile these days.

      • I always thought Ivana was cool.

        • Snarkaholic

Same here; I once saw her stop and pick up candy wrappers that someone had dropped on the lobby floor of Trump Plaza.

      • Ivana’s divorce settlement was predicated on a lifetime gag order about Donald or anything about the family or marriage.

Thus she will no longer confirm the graphic domestic violence and rape allegations from her original autobiography.

        • Lazycrockett

True but the kids know what shit went down and while they may not want to admit it and deal with it, they probably don’t want to see it played out in the media again specially when its not a winning strategy.

O/T: This was probably posted earlier, but the idea of the USGS making an earthquake advisory makes me nervous
    http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-me-ln-earthquake-swarm-20160930-snap-story.html

    • johncAtl

It’s only a matter of time for earthquake watches/warnings to be a real thing. Weather forecasts are based on modeling existing atmospheric conditions against historic data. And they’re getting damn accurate. There was a hurricane a few years ago that the NHC forecast would go west across the bottom of Florida and then make a 180 degree turn and cross South Florida. That forecast was a week out and it was 100% accurate to what happened.

      • safari

They’re still both quit chaotic events. I routinely read the national weather service’s forecast discussions. Their models are getting better but they still aren’t perfect. (Plus I’m in the middle of the mid-90s book on chaos theory and work in an inherently chaos-forcused field, so I’m a little pessimistic.)

        • johncAtl

The Weather Channel is ahead of the national weather service, probably because they have more money. I was in a meeting last year where the head of the Weather Company spoke and they have an amazing grid of monitoring devices feeding them current data. Listening to him talk answered the question for me as to why I get different TWC forecasts on my laptop vs. my phone. My laptop can only be identified based on location data the my cable service provides. The app on my phone know precisely where I am.

          • safari

I honestly have no idea about their models. I just know that there’s a computational model gap between the US and Europe based solely on number crunching ability.

          • johncAtl

IBM acquired The Weather Company at the beginning of 2016 if that gives you any idea about the computational/analytical capability that they now have.

          • safari

Weather is literally the holy of holies of predictive computation. It was one of (if not the) first introductions to the limits of computation.

          • johncAtl

Yes, I saw Grace Hopper speak over 30 years ago and weather was one of the main things she talked about. The difference now is that the power of computing and analytics can model current data against massive amounts of historical data in seconds.

          • safari

Jealous of the Grace Hopper experience. The navy is naming a building after her.

          • johncAtl

It was pretty cool. To illustrate how long ago that was she brought along a coil of wire that she would pass around the room. Engineers would tell her how fast computers were in milliseconds and she couldn’t relate to that. She told the engineers she needed to see what a millisecond was so they cut the wire to the length that a bit of data would travel in one millisecond.

            Edited: I meant one millisecond.

          • safari

I have absolutely zero intuition on that. In fact, I have a hard time clawing through all of the abstraction layers these days to even get to the metal.

      • zhera

        Witch craft!

        • safari

Embrace our superior mechanical event-predicting children. Or not. They pretty much already know what will soothe you in the next few seconds. So, it won’t matter anyway shortly.

    • SoCalGal20

At least you don’t live here! The swarm stopped yesterday, I think. And there’s only like a 1% chance of a 7 or higher. It is disconcerting, though.

In related news it seems we could have an earthquake early warning system in the next couple of years.

      http://abc7.com/science/early-earthquake-warning-system-in-socal-possible-in-couple-years/1534253/

      • safari

I was once at the doctors office and had a conversation with a DHS management person for my state. We agreed that non-terrorist disaster-wise, unless glaciers, we’re pretty dull. And I’m thankful.

      • TuuxKabin

I miss, and love California, in spite of it’s faults.

Snark aside, I’d say it’s very disconcerting, especially after reading those articles and watching the video. I remember pointing out the San Andreas Fault to el Hub on a flight from SFO-LAX. The ‘split’ in the earth is clearly visible from the air.

Hope you have a good weekend.

        • SoCalGal20

Thank you! And I hope you have a good weekend as well!

Thry said the advisory is until Oct. 4 but the probability is lower as time passes so fingers cross!

    • RoFaWh

The thing that saved many lives in Japan on 11 March 2011 was the earthquake warning flashed to all cell phones in the country.

The waves emanating from an earthquake are of a surprising variety of types, and one type travels faster than the others without anybody much noticing if they don’t own a seismograph. This provides just enough time to send out an advance warning, but that’s enough for people to take cover before the really damaging waves hit (earthquake waves, not tsunami waves).

This is entirely different from the type of advisory referred to.

  • BTW people. Hurricane Matthew is now a category 5 and may be the strongest Hurricane ever in the Atlantic basin by tomorrow. Anyone from Miami north needs to pay attention to the weather. No one knows where it might hit, if anywhere, starting the middle of next week but its going to devastate Cuba, Jamaica, Haiti, and the Bahamas over the next few days.. Winds right now are 160 mph. — but it could move out to sea and not impact the USA directly https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/38f3b464b66e50248c2b17b61efcd9f263d193ceb7d042f8b99d0cb01e776888.jpg

The hurricanes in the Atlantic have been intense in the past few years, but they’ve avoided landfall. We should pay attention to what is happening in the Pacific. The Typhoons there have been off the scale and doing massive damage.

Mentioned this before but anti-gay asshole Diarmuid O’Scannlain, who did everything he could to drag out marriage equality cases in the 9th Circuit, will be taking senior status.
So while he will still be able to hear cases, it will be in a reduced role and unless he is assigned to hear a case involving LGBT rights, he will not be able to request en banc hearings or pull other antics due to him being a senior judge.
Would have preferred him to leave the bench altogether but for now, I’ll settle for Hillary appointing a young liberal jurist to replace him, one that is hopefully LGBT to really set him off.

    • Is this the big October surprise everyone was talking about? Leaked emails? I don’t think anyone will care. And they are the children of the great recession, why is this badmouthing them?

      • johncAtl

        No. It’s a distortion.

      • Bruno

She eats fake scandals like this for dinner. The October surprise will surely involve an email of some sort.

        • Ninja0980

Yup, either from the ones that will be released via court order or ones distorted by Assange and the Russians he is working for.

          • Bruno

Which leads me to wonder if they can really be considered an “October Surprise” if we’re expecting them.

          • And they risk pissing security establishment Republicans off — like Condoleezza Rice — into publically endorsing Hillary if Trump is seen too in bed with Putin. She apparently has already expressed strong reservations about this in emails with Colin Powell that were leaked. I also see Senate Republicans like Lindsey Graham and Bob Corker exploding if Putin is seen as manipulating the elections too openly by releasing emails to support Trump.

Just read it, I really don’t see much bad there. Sure maybe “living in their parents basement” might seem harsh but in context of what she was saying, it was young people who got their education and then couldn’t get the job they were qualified for or seemed stuck in a job with no possibility to move upwards and thats why they were disillusioned…makes sense to me. I think this is a whole lot of nothing, but of course, the media may lap it up like milk to a cat and push Trump’s early morning tweet tirades to the back burner. Sigh. At least we have the VEEP debate to distract.

      • Ninja0980

The media can try but like Politico just did, they’d get torn apart because there is nothing damning on these tapes, just blunt honesty.

Yes, Ivanka, your daddy displays all the best American values towards women.

Donald Trump came under intense scrutiny Friday after he disparaged former Miss Universe Alicia Machado in a series of scathing early morning statements on Twitter, including an accusation that she had appeared in a sex tape.
His rival, Hillary Clinton, swiftly seized upon the attacks to characterize Trump as “unhinged.”

The Republican presidential nominee called Machado “disgusting” and a “con” and raised questions about her past in a series of tweets fired off between 3 a.m. and 5:30 a.m., his most negative comments after days of attacks on her.

OT: No monster like a religious monster.

A Utah State Senate candidate said on Facebook that a gay teen who
committed suicide had been guilty of two sins: homosexuality and murder.

Independent American Party candidate Jason Christensen, who is running
in a district that includes Provo, shared his bigoted views Wednesday on
a post about a 19-year-old man’s suicide, KUTV reported. He later apologized, though he didn’t try to retract what he said.

“Yes this is sad, and hopefully God will have mercy on both sins that
this boy committed. The sins of homosexuality and the sins of murder,”
    Christensen wrote on Facebook.

    • Reality.Bites

It should be noted that he’s an independent fringe candidate.

  • TampaZeke

Ivanka is Trump’s ELDER (comparative) daughter. He only has two daughters. One must have at least three daughters to have an “eldest” (superlative).

Call me a grammar Nazi, but some grammar mistakes actually change, or misstate, the facts of a statement.

    • BobSF_94117

      You’re forgetting they’re Trumps. They’re all superlative…

    • Johnny Wyeknot

Melanie is younger than Ivanka and I suspect he fantasizes she is a daughter so technically he might be grammatically correct.

    • RoFaWh

I’m in favor of correcting grammatical mistakes. They don’t seem to teach that stuff in school anymore, so where else will JMG commentators find enlightenment on the subject but in the JMG comments?

      • SoCalGal20

Apparently he’s a good orator but I doubt he’ll be able to help Trump because Trump isn’t disciplined enough to stay on message. Also, I frankly don’t think Trump smart enough to actually retain and retrieve all the information he should be able to access for a good debate, so he’ll just fall back on his word salad babbling or insulting people.

        • RoFaWh

Drumpf is no orator, not good and not even bad.

The goobers love his speech, but that doesn’t make it oratory.

          • SoCalGal20

I was talking about Farage lol. But I just pulled that from The Guardian interview. But, yeah, that’s not going to help Drumpf.

He won’t be able to pack the audience with questions like that, I don’t think.

  • Gretchen Sharp Kidd

So does that make those of us who were unable or uninterested in having children unemployed or just underemployed? I find this insulting on so many levels, but the assumption that women are first and foremost baby makers is appalling to me. I have an adopted son. He was a teenager when he joined our family, and up to that point I had no plans to be anyone’s mother. I’m fairly certain that I was still a productive member of society before I met him. Maybe other women feel differently, but I am not defined by motherhood. I totally agree that parental leave and child care assistance are extremely important for both mothers and fathers, but the pandering to the “blessed mothers” crowd is insulting and degrading to women.

    • Oikos

    • RoFaWh

I am intensely curious about how the adoption of a teenager went.

Can you tell us in just a few words?

      • Gretchen Sharp Kidd

Absolutely! Our son came to us through foster care, and while there were the general growing pains of adding someone to our household, making him a permanent part of our family came very easy. Our son has a mild intellectual disability and schizophrenia, so we still have a very active role in his life even though he is an adult now. I encourage anyone interested in fostering or adoption to consider an older child or teen. They need and deserve a permanent family!

Respect is NOT a one-way street. That’s not how the Golden Rule works.

      • SoCalGal20

I agree. Also, you can live your life angry and resentful and inflexible, or you can be resilient and learn to adapt.

      • RoFaWh

        Yes, indeed.

There’s a Youtube video of an Amtrak train making an unscheduled stop so the cops can remove a woman who wouldn’t stop annoying other passengers by yapping loudly on her phone.

That woman had her knickers in a twist because “they were dissing her”, but what had she been doing to other passengers who had asked her to pipe down?

As you say, respect is a two-way street.

  • lattebud

The most important job for a woman is to lead a full life, embracing her talents, knowledge, dreams, and potential. Just cause a woman chooses or is unable to have children doesn’t make her unfulfilled.

Trump’s tone deafness on gender issues has infuriated me all week.

Before he appeared in Novi last night, he made a brief unannounced stop here yesterday around noon. He checked into the Amway Grand Plaza Hotel and walked across the pedestrian bridge to Anabawen Park to lay flowers at the graves of Gerald and Betty Ford, outside the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum. (Photo taken and posted by a local redittor yesterday)

    Seriously, you orange fuck?

Betty Ford fought for passage of the ERA. She championed women’s rights and issues. She made discussion of breast cancer and substance abuse open and public.

I really liked this interview Mary J. Blige did with Hillary. (Be warned, they do talk about how their faith is important to them but only in a personal way, not preachy way). The interview is about 30 min.

Yeah, I watched that, made me think of posting it in a reply to you. The ‘faith’ bit hardly registered an eye roll, we all have faith in something. I enjoyed finding more about Hillary’s mother and Chelsea’s close relationship, and now Hillary’s experience as a grandmother.

      • SoCalGal20

Yeah, the faith thing didn’t bother me either but I figured I’d mention it anyway.

I thought it was a very good conversation and it was nice to get those stories like about Chelsea and her grandmother.

Yeah, I posted the link somewhere along the way yesterday and got a ‘Mary Bilge creeps me out’ reply, which is cool. I’ve only heard of her, wouldn’t know her music from anyone’s. That interview was the first time I’d ever seen her. It was about Hillary anyway.
