Former Miss Universe Stars In New Hillary Ad [VIDEO]

AdWeek reports:

Monday night, during the first presidential debate between Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump, it was no accident that Clinton pointed out Trump’s treatment of Alicia Machado.

“One of the worst things he said was about a woman in a beauty contest,” said Clinton. “He loves beauty contests, supporting them and hanging around them, and he called this woman ‘Miss Piggy,’ then he called her ‘Miss Housekeeping’ because she was Latina.”

Clinton continued: “Donald, she has a name. Her name is Alicia Machado. And she has become a U.S. citizen and you can bet she is going to vote this November.” The Democratic nominee for president must have known that her ad team had a two-and-a-half minute spot featuring the former Miss Universe waiting to be released.

This morning on Fox News, Trump doubled-down on his attack on Machado, declaring that she had gotten fat and full of attitude during her reign.

You know, for all the grief that Chris Christie gets about his weight, if you compare Trump’s golfing photos with Christie side by side, Trump really isn’t all that much thinner than Christie. And Christie at least has a sense of humor and is self-aware enough not to call other people fat.

A nice fat wife (who could handle him) might remind him of his age, and that he’s gonna die too! Plus her shipping cost would be far in excess of Melania’s.

Dems should not get complacent. I’ve heard several “man on the street” interviews with people who thought Trump won the debate. I have a sense that very few minds were changed last night.

        • Rex

Those supporting Trump won’t change their minds, and those supporting Clinton won’t change theirs. Trump could have slobbered and grunted for 90 minutes and they’d claim a victory, which is pretty much what he did. This contest isn’t so much about wanting a candidate to win as it is about wanting the opponent to lose.

          • TSS

And about undecideds and winning over Johnson or Stein supporters.

        • ShawnSwagger

Yeah, polled focus groups had 80% saying the debate did not change their minds, but it’s that other 20% that the debates are for.

        • YakHerder

Careful now, when you start bringing up U.S. wars based on lies, Hillz is not exactly a shining beacon of inspiration.

          • coram nobis

That’s true, but Donald’s explanation for Iraq isn’t terribly good as well. But his record on Vietnam is certainly worth raising, along with the Gold Star issue. Maybe by a third-party PAC.

          • YakHerder

I would just avoid Vietnam altogether (LIKE TRUMP, AMIRITE!). But seriously, I get royally pissed off when people insult the draft-dodgers: the draft was immoral, as was the war; they deserved to be dodged. And I say this as someone whose dad is a Vietnam vet.

But sweet Jesus, Trump’s bullshit excuses for weaseling out of the war so he wouldn’t get his tiny li’l hands dirty…he is a pathetic piece of shit.

As for continuing to hammer him on the Khans…right on! Trump has never looked worse than when he’s insulting a dead soldier’s mom based on her religion. What an asshole.

          • Galvestonian

I think what happened during the Vietnam unpleasantness was that the National Guard turned into a very elite club with only Senator’s, Congressmen, the wealthy and highly connected kids allowed to join. Most of us (if not all of us) in any branches of the real military looked at the National Guard pukes with real scorn and derision ( and still do ) – along with Ms Jane Fonda. Most of the National Guard and Reserve units during Vietnam were assigned to lower-risk duty inside the United States

          • John30013

In times of war, National Guard and Reserve troops are typically called up to backfill active duty units that have deployed. Some NG/R units do see front-line duty, but most do not. (I speak as a former active-duty Air Force officer stationed at Air Force Reserve HQ during the first Gulf War.)

You’re right that the NG/R were (and probably still are, to a degree) a refuge for well-connected kids (like baby Bush) who wanted to “appear” patriotic without actually putting themselves in harm’s way.

          • John30013

There’s a huge difference between insulting draft-dodgers in general (I agree the war was immoral), and condemning politicians (Cheney, Rumsfeld, GWBush, and Trump) who dodged the draft then but now don the mantle of uber-patriots and have no qualms about sending our troops into their ill-conceived wars.

          • YakHerder

100%. Couldn’t have put it better.

          • John30013

At least she has “plausible deniability” regarding her vote in the Senate to authorize W’s stupid war. Congresscritters have to trust that the information they’re given is accurate. They were lied to by people ({cough}Powell{cough}) who should have known better. There was serious reporting at the time about the “spin” (to put it kindly) that (primarily) Cheney’s henchmen were putting on the intelligence reports, to trump up their cassus belli.

I wish Clinton and the rest of the Senate had been more probing and forceful about pushing back on the information they were fed. But the vast tide in this country (at the time) was for war, and people were easily led down the primrose path of a quick victory paid for by grateful Iraqis with free oil. It’s not hard to see why any politician, at that time, would have voted for war.

        • Galvestonian

Yeah…has anyone of these boobs considered the possibility of a draft ? Young men and women under 26 and those in the reserves … all sucked into the military machine.
Ummmm, whole lot of new Canadians on the way and talk about an upswing in college enrollments. As I recall during Vietnam there were a number of faux-colleges that didn’t have campuses, faculity or any courses offered with well over 100,000 students enrolled – some of the students for close to 8 or 9 years.

I think the extra length of the ad works in this case.

It’s a compelling first-person account by a “beauty queen.” Unlike a dry and “policy wonky” ad tying Trump to Putin, for instance, this ad will captivate and draw in women voters — particularly younger women who have struggled with eating disorders.

  • skyweaver

Only Donald Trump would hear a criticism in this area and thinks he’s being questioned about how TRUTHFUL his statement was that this Miss Universe had gained weight

  • Adam Schmidt

And here we see the difference in how the two candidates go on the offense. Hillary attacks by using Donald’s words and actions against him… this ad is like quite a few before this that go down that path.

Donald on the other hand attacks Hillary’s strength with his weakness. For example: he’s a 70 year old overweight man who doesn’t exercise… so he attacks her health while withholding his medical information. Evidence is pouring out that the Trump Foundation used charitable contributions to directly help Donald rather than people in need while the Clinton Foundation did a lot of good around the world and has excellent ratings… so he attacks the Clinton Foundation saying that people were buying access to neutralize her strength and bring her down to his level.

Similarly, he attacks her experience saying that it’s bad experience so it doesn’t count… that way it doesn’t matter that he has no government experience and she has some because it’s *bad* experience.

And even if he doesn’t negate his own faults in the process of attacking Hillary’s strengths, well at least he can move the needle to “well, both sides do it”. It’s all about removing her strengths from play while minimizing his weaknesses and then trying to use his supposed strengths to try to win.

    • Xuuths

I guess his multiple business failures and bankruptcies are what he considers “good” experience.

      • Bad Tom

They, like paying zero taxes, prove he is “smart.”

      • John30013

I believe one of Dubya’s “selling points” was his business “experience”. (I think he owned a baseball team, which went bankrupt or at least lost money.) I see a pattern here, and it ain’t a good one.

  • popebuck1

I don’t know how he does it, but everything I learn about Trump keeps making him look like an even more repulsive human being.

    • Xuuths

      “It’s just business.”

    • Gerry Fisher

I’m not sure that I’ve heard about one redeeming attribute or action. W had a few redeeming moments, my favorite being his comment to his trans classmate from Yale when she visited the White House, saying, “I’m glad that you’ve come as yourself.”

      • popebuck1

I could at least envision Dubya having normal human relationships with his family and friends. Trump doesn’t seem to be capable of having anything but an employer/employee relationship with ANYONE, including his wives and children.

      • YakHerder

His (newly-found) criticism of the Iraq War is about all that’s good of him—and you know he’d change his tune on that in a heartbeat if it made his public approval numbers rise.

  • Sean Williams

What? A man who trades in his wife every few years objectifies women? Shocking.

  • This is disgusting. Trump makes fun of a Latina woman by calling her “Miss Housekeeping” which shows you his attitude to immigrants and people who need to work for a living in general. Calling anyone with a perceived weight problem “Miss Piggy” is awful. Yet, people support him and plan to vote for him. Donald Trump is a cruel, spoiled, bigoted bully who was born in a privileged postion and has made it by appealing to the crueler side of the human condition. He needs to be called out and stopped. We need to start getting angry again that this evil clown is not hiding in the woods but out there in public mugging America.

Of course Clinton had this ready to roll. Trump will now spend two days on denying the whole thing. Meanwhile is a triple play, Hispanic check, immigrant check, female check.

  • Ninja0980

  • Lazycrockett

OT Hillary is at a rally having a blast its on MSNBC. She is really feeling upbeat.

  • kaydenpat

Racism and sexism. What a nice guy.

  • Mister Don

I’d dispute her statement that Trump doesn’t realize the damage he causes, on the contrary, he relishes it.

  • Clinton’s ‘Rope a Cheeto Dope’ strategy: Maneuver Donald into PROUDLY confirming every appalling detail about himself. A short and only partial list:

    1. That he’s paid no personal taxes at all, and he’s proud of that. Oh, and he’s also proud of having made money on the economic crash a decade ago, even though millions of Americans’ lives were ruined while it was happening.
    2. That he’s a sexist pig, and he’s proud of that, too, because he thinks the women he’s slurred “deserved” it.
    3. That he has no foreign policy plans at all, and he’s proud of that because he actually believes people buy his BS about ‘the enemy’ not being allowed to know anything about what he has planned.
    4. He’s proud about being open to 1st use of nuclear weapons, for the same reasons as #3.
    5. He’s proud of his ludicrous idea to blow off and extort money from America’s allies.

But yeah…this here was really telling. Trump could have done as he often does and humble-brag about how amazing he is for women. Instead, because he was so far gone in his stew of helpless rage, he’s merely confirming he really is a misogynist — PROUDLY.

  • JellyDonut

all these churches and religious leaders endorse him. Speaks volumes to what their real motives are all about.

  • Bj Lincoln

That was great! I don’t think she got fat. I think she was too thin when she won the title. She is beautiful and told the truth about what a sexist and racist pig Trump is. I do believe Trump knows how bad his words hurt but would blame her for using them as ‘an excuse’ for an eating problem rather than the cause. He may not understand how the words stay with a person and ring in their ear every time they reach for food or what ever was attacked by someone as slimy as Trump.
When I moved and my health took a dive. I was not able to work at getting my art out like I did in Ohio. I don’t have the connections or know the right people to get a foothold. It is a lot of work. I had made a comment that the 300 pound wife of a dear friend could stand to miss a meal or too because when she visited or spent the night, she spent more time in the kitchen, eating my food, in one night than I do in a week. She found out what I said and text me, ” You are a has been wannabe artist with no talent.” That really hurt and has stuck with me now for 2 years making it even harder to work. Words can hurt. What I said was wrong too but didn’t seem to bother her.

  • It’s particularly telling that while Donald slurred Ms. Machado with both sexist and racist insults, and thought she was ‘disgustingly’ fat, he truly think’s he’s only a few pounds overweight himself.

    • Oh dontcha know that a man’s weight is irrelevant? They can be massively overweight and it matters not. Whilst all women are supposed to stay thin and young forever? Grey hair on a man, oh look hes distinguished, while a woman becomes an old and washed up, useless to society.

  • Ore Carmi

Wow, the story is far worse than I picked up from what Clinton said during the debate! That Trump is an unbelievable pig! (And of course he didn’t pay her.)

  • Dinz6315

Oh my God. I love this ad, and I deeply admire this wonderful woman. What courage that took.

And what a despicable pig that man is.

  • I hope this message by this lovely woman wakes up some undecided voters. My only worry is that it’s in Spanish and many fence sitters will bristle at the fact she doesn’t speak in English, or doesn’t in this ad. Why didn’t she sue him for what he owed her?

Just when we think we have heard the worst about Trump, something new crawls out.

Wow, that is VERY powerful. I have a Hispanic coworker that’s trying her hardest to get friends and family to vote, I’m sending a link to this right now.

Powerful ad! This young woman so vividly shows and explains the character of this man who would be our President. It is precisely this awful character to which his loyalista turn a blind eye. This demeaning and degrading attitude of his is totally ignored or glossed over because he entertains them or ‘he tells it like it is’ or ‘he shoots from the hip’. Very sad that so many voters so easily dismiss the most important characteristics a President of the United States should have because he is ‘entertaining’. The possibility that this awful person could be our President is a real nightmare waiting to become reality.

Oh, please! I don’t think of her as ever being fat, based on what I saw. what I saw was a beautiful Latina lady who did put on a bit of weight but remained a beautiful human being. Trump, on the other hand, was and is racist and THE very definition of being Deplorable and despicable.

No doubt she lost unhealthy amounts of weight to compete in that pageant in the first place.
