ARIZONA: Notorious Street Preacher Brother Dean Arrested For Assaulting Female College Student

The Tuscon News reports:

A controversial street preacher known as Brother Dean has been accused of assaulting a University of Arizona student, authorities said. Rene Hernandez, a spokesperson for the University of Arizona Police Department, said Dean Frederick Saxton was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 20. Saxton has been accused of kicking a woman in the chest and has been banned from the UA campus for one year. Sgt. Filbert Barrera, spokesman for the UAPD, said Saxon was given an one-year exclusionary order and has 10 days to contest it. Saxton was booked into the Pima County Jail on an assault charge. Bond was set at $641 and he is expected to appear in court tonight.

Brother Dean was in the news earlier this year after a student hit him in the head with a metal baseball bat. During yesterday’s incident he was wearing a “No Homo” t-shirt.

Coward assaulting college students. Shame he’s only being banned for one year.

  • AtticusP

And I’ll bet he doesn’t understand why he can’t get a date on Saturday nights.

    • Curieux Bleu

Classic Cro-Magnon Misogynist … Republican … A total Asshole like you said.

Male violence, verbal and physical, legal repression where they can engineer it, and illegal assault otherwise, is their only response to the feminine gender.

Arrested human development at the 2 year old tantrum stage. “Do as I scream at you, or I’m gonna rape you, and you’ll totally deserve it!”

(But with full apologies to the Cro-Magnons, they were so much better than he.)

      • teeveedub

Gee, I wonder who he’ll be voting for?

        • ColdDesert

          Jill Stein?

We are identical to Cro-Magnon. Cro-Magnon is modern man.

Lots of us Cro-Magnons are misogynist republican assholes.

(I did apologise to those of us who try to act as though we are not those things. 😄)

    • ColdCountry

      Maybe he doesn’t date women.

Shorter Nate Silver: “Click Me! Click Me!”

There’s no reason to be complacent.

There’s also no reason to panic in freaking September when the race characteristically does tighten. There’s no reason Nate isn’t noting that some of these polls are using a 2004 likely voter screen and it’s influencing the average, but he isn’t.

If it still looks this bad after the first debate (and Clinton doesn’t whiff it like Obama did his first in 2012), then there’s excellent reason for worry.

  • greenmanTN

Holy fucking shit! “You deserve rape”?

    • Joe in PA

I think there is a lot of that sentiment out there. ;( Sad.

    • thom

please, everyone recognize how reprehensible that statement is “you deserve rape”
unconscionable… with that in mind, prison rape is NOT funny!

      • greenmanTN

I’m glad you added the thing about prison rape. Men no more deserve to be raped than women and it isn’t a punchline.

        • (((dagobarbz)))

Rape of anyone is wrong, but these people are completely devoid of empathy and compassion. Maybe losing their autonomy and being used as a sex toy might help them with that?

          • greenmanTN

I don’t know. I don’t think empathy can be taught. if there was a kernel of empathy to begin with they wouldn’t have done it in the first place.

          • (((dagobarbz)))

I had some male friends in San Francisco; straight boys who would occasionally wander into the wrong bar.

What they came away with was a new perspective on how women are treated, and they didn’t like it at all.

So to some extent, I think experience can lead to empathy.

          • greenmanTN

All of this is just a perspective, so take it with a grain (or box) of salt. First you have to have the capacity to see other people as not just meat. I think that constantly hooking up online is ultimately damaging, not for Puitanical reasons, but because It makes people too disposable. This one is too fat, too thin, the color of their hair isn’t what I like…

You can be so in pursuit of the perfect that you pass the very good right by.

I actually don’t know what I’m saying but there is a point in there somewhere.

          • (((dagobarbz)))

Your first sentence was the point, I think. My friends had that capacity, they’d just never had to confront their own behavior in bars before. And they had the sense that, if they didn’t like it, women might not either.

I have friends who’ve done that online dating thing. I suspect if you do that, it’d be better to go by their introductory statement than their photo. Heh…Photoshop…

      • CatApostrophe

Agreed. Rape is always wrong and I’ve never found prison rape jokes funny or appropriate, even when it’s a pedophile who’s supposed to be “getting what’s coming to him” behind bars. Just not Ok.

    • Oh’behr
      • Oh’behr

I don’t know what is up with the Univ. of Wisc. freshman this year, yet there was also this similar sign on the Oshkosh campus too:

Conflict erupted at UW Oshkosh after off-campus students hung a controversial sign across from Evans Hall during a freshman move-in day.
The sign read “Free cream pie with valid freshman ID,” which can be construed as a derogatory sexual reference. This prompted UWO Chancellor Andrew Leavitt to address the campus via email one week after the incident.
A similar sign was displayed near the UW-La Crosse campus on the same weekend, which prompted outrage on social media from offended parties.

        • StraightGrandmother

Cream Pie is a sexual reference? Man I am getting old.

          • Oh’behr

I’ll admit I never heard of it either. It must have happened while I was taking a nap. (Sorry, I don’t mean to belittle the seriousness of the subject). Yet I have to sometimes laugh at myself how much I don’t know too.

          • greenmanTN

I used to pride myself on being on top of culture. Picture, if you will, a teenage boy in East Tennessee, walking around with a copy of Interview Magazine (the old big format) under his arm.

But this Kardarskian bullshit, Paris Hilton, just escapes me.

  • sherman

    Let me guess. Trump supporter.

Maybe he was trying to get the campaign’s attention in hopes of a job. There is a lot of turnover at the top.

  • Wynter Marie Starr

I don’t understand men who rape, but I understand them better than any man who thinks women being raped is an okay thing. Just how much do you have to hate women to think that way?

    • canoebum

Men of the type you describe don’t necessarily hate woman, they aren’t thinking of the woman at all. It’s all about them, their wants, their desires, their power, their control. The woman becomes a mere object used to obtain what they want for themselves. Purely animalistic, nothing more.

      • Wynter Marie Starr

I would agree that is very true of men who rape. But men that think women should be raped is a different story altogether. Just how does a man with a mother, aunts, grandmothers, sisters, nieces, and maybe their own daughters come to the conclusion that any woman deserves rape? I’ve read stories of 6 mo olds being raped as well as 90 year olds. They are very sick in my opinion.

        • swimboy

Not that I’m defending him, but I think “You deserve to be raped” is just an extreme form of blaming the victim in advance. I think his argument, however weak, is that any woman who gets raped put herself in the position for it to happen, and therefore deserves whatever she gets.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

Women get raped in broad daylight, on their jobs, while shopping, and in their homes among other places. Those victims can’t and shouldn’t be blamed. I see your point, I just happen to think he’s one sick fuck.

        • canoebum

Well, the inability to feel empathy opens the door to all kinds of bad behavior.

      • StraightGrandmother

I think you are right about that.

Sadistic rapists, now there is another whole kettle of fish. But straight up rape of women is all about them man and what he wants and he is gonna go get it.

    • Goodboy

No different then allot of Muslim men in the middle east.

      • Wynter Marie Starr

I’d say no difference between far too many men the world over.

  • Oh’behr

Who in their right mind kicks a woman in the chest … oh yes, a man in his white, male, Christian, RIGHT wing mind. Wonder if that is the equivalent of him trying to hit her over the head with a caveman’s club to drag her back to the cave? Did the male human pig need someone to clean up after him. To cook for him? Need breeding stock? Need to show how he’s superior as he’s actually inferior in many ways.

This guy is an an animal. Thug. Trash. He should be locked up for a long time. He’s a danger to women and promotes rape culture.

Also, for all the newspaper comments I see lately about how dangerous Islam is (to right wingers) and they want to kick Muslims out of Minnesota (as I live in Minnesota and read some of the local news), here’s a good example of how dangerous Christianity is then also to women. If people want to go for generalizations, Christianity is doing a great job in promoting a rape culture, I think we equally need to worry about Christians in Minnesota and elsewhere in the USA too.

    • DumbHairyApe

Well, you answered your own question by using the term “in their right mind” in the question….

Even with privilege, such a low amount indicates to me he is lacking in resources, friends and family.

        • Hína Kemenduro

… and is probably not considered a flight risk, or, maybe they are hoping he will flee the state and become somebody else’s problem… ok, that is just a fantasy. Probably not considered a flight risk, or an immediate risk to others (questionable), so cheaper for the county to not have to house him for a bit.

        • lenvus

No, it is a misdemeanor. Everyone receives this amount of bond, unless extenuating circumstances otherwise dictate. Arizona Constitution, Art. 2, Sect. 15, prohibits excessive bail or bond.

      • Falconlights

        in Arizona.

    • lenvus

Standard bond for an 13-1203(A)(1) or 13-1203(A)(3) assault violation is either $540 or $641 — the judge will determine bond based on the issues surrounding the case, arguments presented, and financial circumstance. As it is a class 1 misdemeanor, bond is not excessive.

  • JT

Street preacherdouche, thanks for confirming how awful your book is.

  • Gigi

Banned from the college campus for one year? If he’s kicking women in the chest, Douchey Dean should be banned for life!

    • Oh’behr

I agree. If he doesn’t get counseling (of the non-Christian kind) or other legit treatment (such a meds), he presents a future danger to women on any campus or off campus.

      • David Walker

Yes, because see what those femi-nazis did to him?

    • Nychta

Given his “you deserve rape” message, why was he allowed on campus at all?

      • David Walker

Probably a free speech thing. What I want to know is why it took a week for UWO Chancellor Andrew Leavitt to address the campus via email. A week? Seriously?

        • Robincho

          Andrew “Squattin'” Leavitt…

    • CatApostrophe

In college, my friend’s rapist was banned from campus for only a year. There were actually 2 guys, but they only managed to track down the one ’cause he’d done it many times before, mostly to freshmen. Guess what pair of idiots turned up in front of our dorm within a week of being banned? We had a couple friends go distract them while the rest of us called and waited for the cops. Despite our satisfaction in seeing these two pieces of shit be lead off in handcuffs, we should not have had to go through ensuring their distance from us ourselves. Colleges can be remarkably boneheaded when it comes to keeping creeps away from the people they assault.

  • rednekokie

This guy has a severe personal problem which, I’d bet, has been brought on by frantic preachers screaming about the more sexual portions of the bible.
I also suspect he was molested in some way, as a small child. He certainly acts the part.
Sad — underneath it all, he just may be a decent person — aaww – no, couldn’t be.

    • William

Too late, he’s fully formed. Lock him up.

  • Dean

Bond was set at $641. Looks like a slap-on-the-wrist moment.

  • rusty57

I’m glad the young lady assaulted was not seriously injured.

And can we have a serious discussion on how we, as a society, care for the mentally ill among us?
No mentally healthy adult kicks another human being or thinks that women deserve to be raped. Even to my layman’s eye Mr. Saxton is seriously emotionally and/or mentally disturbed.

    • Oh’behr

I can think of people who are mentally ill who also wouldn’t think of harming someone else. Yet there are also people who are mentally ill who do hurt people. Are whom are emotionally disturbed or damaged or ill. He does have issues. I hope he gets help to untangle himself from his personal demons of which religion seems to be a huge one.

      • rusty57

I’ve people in my immediate family who are bi-polar and/or schizophrenic. The one wouldn’t hurt anyone except verbally and the other is much younger and physically imposing and is a threat to all around him when he goes off his meds. It’s tragic because before the disease took him he was a wonderful young man with a bright future ahead of him.

  • StraightGrandmother

Another hate preacher from Arizona. SMH

    • Joe knows who I am.

I keep saying (to the gov’t here no less) that, the state of Arizona has a very serious RW, fanatic problem that needs to be addressed or it will really get out of control. The Scottsdale/Mesa crowd continues to hide in their gated homes ignoring it and continues to politically gut mental health, public assistance, etc,… and stoking the fires.

  • aagold76 .

so if he can laugh at women who get raped….can I laugh while he gets his head bashed in?

  • Rt1583

Maybe, just maybe he will get some jail time. Maybe, just maybe he’ll get raped by one of the nice young men he shares space with and he can experience god laughing at his rape.

    Bond set at $641? WTF?

  • JellyDonut

there is a sweetheart you want your sister to date. #WhackJob

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

My rule of thumb is follow the money. This society doesn’t get to say it gives a damn about women until it actually takes violence against them seriously. This kind of low bail does nothing to keep women safe or him from being violent. I think this also encourages other men like him by saying “Whip out your credit card and you too can keep out of jail for attacking women.”

  • swimboy

OK, so we can check “hitting him upside the head with a baseball bat” off the list of potential ways to fix this guy’s problem. Anybody got any other ideas?

    • tcinsf

jail? If he’s committing battery against students he’s crossed a line.

    • Goodboy

That would cure a normal persons thinking but this guy clearly isn’t playing with a full deck.

    • trouble94114

I suspect that we pretty much rule out any type of blunt force trauma caused by swatting him “upside the head” i.e. tire irons, 2x4s, crowbars, hockey sticks, polo mallets, large rocks. unfortunately, the next thing that came to mind was some type of electroshock conversion therapy.

We’ve been dealing with this asshole for YEARS now. He, and a few of his minions, have been pervading the UA campus, tormenting students with their messages of “love.” My favorite memories were the students standing up for themselves, yelling back at Dean and his kin, and when Dean would realize he was outnumbered, he would sometimes back off.
