An early report from NY1:
NYPD sources tell NY1 that up to a dozen people may have suffered minor injuries in an explosion that occurred around 8:30 p.m. in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood. Fire and police crews are on the scene of the blast, which took place on West 23rd Street between Sixth and Seventh avenues.
Mass transit has been routed around the area. Preliminary reports point to the explosion happening inside of a dumpster. Witnesses report feeling the ground shake, while others say they were ushered out of a nearby restaurant for their own safety after the blast occurred. 23rd Street is currently shut down between Fifth ad Eighth avenues.
