REPORT: Man Who Allegedly Made Terrorist Threats Against South Florida Gay Bars Arrested In Orlando UPDATE: Wilton Manors Police Chief Denies Report

JMG reader Richard tips us that Fort Lauderdale City Commissioner Dean Trantalis just announced on his Facebook page that Craig Jungwirth, who is suspected of having made terrorist threats against Wilton Manors gay bars, has been apprehended in the Orlando area. See his message below. At this writing no further details are available. I’ll update this post shortly when more is known.apprendedUPDATE: I’ve been copied on an email from the Wilton Manors chief of police: “The Facebook posting is absolutely FALSE! I can assure you that when we have credible, non-sensitive information we will share it with the entire community.”

  • pj

    he was in orlando?

    • Gerry Fisher

His mom lived there. His sister lived in Fort Lauderdale.

  • bkmn

Good news for our brothers and sisters in Florida. I hope the court system locks him up for a long time.

  • shellback

Just a guess, but it seems he wanted to be caught – for whatever reason.

    • fits in with the standard martyr complex

    • bambinoitaliano

Like Kleptomaniacs who need the attention rather than the object they steals. In this case if he had not been caught he would escalate his daring game into actually killing someone. Just as many impressionable young home grown terrorists wannabe who join the ISIS. They get angrier and angrier when their threats are not ‘respected’ by the authority. That’s how they escalate into actually committing massacres.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

Good !! Keep that freak locked up !!

  • That Guy

So happy that all my friends in FL can breathe a sigh of relief. This seriously had me worried today.

    • HZ81

Indeed. Our FL peeps have suffered enough.

  • Gustav2

    Thank you!

  • Blake J Butler

O/T: HAHAH SCOTUS refuses to reinstate North Carolina voter ID requirement

    • bkmn

The real news is that four justices voted to reinstate. The next four years will decide the direction of SCOTUS for decades.

      • Todd20036

        Kennedy really is a disappointment

        • BobSF_94117

He’s not alone. In the face of clear evidence of the intent of GOP legislators to restrict the people’s right to vote, four Justices pretend these are all just neutral, administrative matters.

      • Blake J Butler

Which is why what happens in the fall is crucial to insure that things that deserve to be pulled off the books stay, and what deserves to be put back into place: Voting rights Act, Citizens United, the Hobby Lobby ruling, etc.

Word through the grapevine is that Thomas is going to retire sometime next year after this election, which would be

In summary a certain pile of excrement that routinely spouts bigoted comments, should never be allowed to succeed Obama.

        • anne marie in philly

WTF has thomas EVER done, but sit on his fat ass and vote for h8? good riddance (if the report is true)!

          • Blake J Butler

LIke i said grapevine, so i heard it but i don’t take it as word, unless Thomas does say something, which now is like astonishing given his spokesman is dead and can’t speak for him anymore.

          • anne marie in philly

does this dude even HAVE vocal chords? a disgrace to the bench; thurgood marshall must be spinning in his grave!

          • grada3784

I believe he has spoken once or twice.

        • NancyP

I worry about vote hacking. By Putin.

      • anne marie in philly

THIS is why we ALL need to get out and VOTE for HRC in november!

        • Not just HRC. Your representatives and (more importantly) your senator! In the last 8 years, the sitting U.S. Senate has sat on more appointments and treaties than *every* *other* *sitting* *Senate* in U.S. history — combined. (Dammit! Cannot find the attribute for that, but it feels right.)

          • anne marie in philly

HELL YEAH! toomey goin’ down to defeat in mah house!

          • THEBEARCUB

Chile I hope. But Katie needs to step her game up!

          • bkmn

And school boards matter too, along with city council, county or parish offices, and the whole ballot does matter. Michele Bachmann got her start in politics by running for school board and she turned that district into one that was hell for LGBT students.

          • LackofFaithify

SILENCE KNAVE! SLAP. Thou shalt not attempt to explain the inner workings of the US system of government!

We shall have perfect, unadulterated unity, or one of the guys with a labish looking dog as his picture on here and a series of letters for his name, (I blocked him so can’t remember) will call you a Republican loyalist who should be executed.

            The self-important gay has spoken!
*Swirls cape and prances off stage left*

  • LackofFaithify

Throwing him in a dungeon or tossing him to a bear? Decisions…

  • Ninja0980

Lock him up and throw away the key.

  • anne marie in philly

looks like a h8er to me; keep him in jail!

  • Gerry Fisher

I imagine that there will be some very creative drink specials in Wilton Manors this weekend in celebration. πŸ™‚

    • Gerry Fisher

“I’ll have a Prison Bitch Bear, please!”

      • Trish

Ah, joking about rape. How very progressive of you. I’m sure your friends are proud of you.

        • Bad Tom

Well, he’s braver than you, who have an anonymous, throw-away, troll account.

          • Trish

Oh yeah, you are so brave! I’m sure “Bad” is your first name and “Tom” is your last. Tell me again how I’m anonymous and u are not?

            See you next Thursday!

          • Bad Tom

You exist for a moment, and then are gone. Unless you go stalky, which is another sign of instability.

I am a regular commenter. Which means I help build this community. If I’m going to criticise someone I DO IT IN THAT GUISE. You do nothing but help tear the community down, as all trolls do.

          • Lumpy Gaga

I only “flag” the most egregious rape jokes because I ended up getting severely trolled by a regular. It was not worth it.

It wouldn’t surprise me if someone of that mindset had that same experience and it wouldn’t surprise if that same person would set up a throw-away ID.

OTOH, amount of trolly tone to take is left as an exercise for the reader. If the cause is legit, it’s not being helped here.

  • Kevin Perez

He seems nice. Is he married?

  • LackofFaithify

OH SHIT PEOPLE!!! I just noticed, we gotta change his legal name quick. Craig Jungwirth just doesn’t fit.

  • Heads up Joe, my Wilton Manors source contacted WMPD and received this back (which I’ve updated on my article):

Wilton Manors Chief of Police Paul O’Connell responded to Trantalis’ Facebook posting moments ago stating via email, “The Facebook posting is absolutely FALSE! I can assure you that when we have credible, non-sensitive information we will share it with the entire community.”

    • JoeMyGod

Thanks Tim! Great reporting on this story from the get-go.

      • Ok, confirmed –

Trantalis’ Facebook posting was based on misinformation from the Ft. Lauderdale police department. He has deleted the post from his Facebook page to retract the announcement.

        • Whiskered Sot

Maybe this site ought to use better sources than a Facebook post?

          • That_Looks_Delicious

Well, he is city councilman. Typically they would be among the first to know.

          • kareemachan

            Hey, we’re talking Florida here….

  • JoeMyGod

VERY IMPORTANT: Folks, I’m being told that Wilton Manors police are denying the report made above by Trantalis, who is also the vice mayor of Fort Lauderdale. Please stand by.

    • LackofFaithify

Everyone back to the S&M Dungeon!

      • BobSF_94117

It’s too bad real life doesn’t just have a safe-word.

      • bambinoitaliano

Sweet jizzes! Even I’m miles away in the North I feel like I need to lock up and hide in the basement.

Hey blondie…couldn’t get a job on CNN as a Trumpbot?

  • sensible laws about weapons are the only solution. i don’t know how many times those of us who know this have to say it. the NRA is a mess of racists, fuckwads, and hypocrites, these days. that crap about hunting and freedom are nothing more than cover for one of america’s most profitable industries. they buy congresscritters with money, who in turn don’t do anything about proper laws with weapons, and after that they make billions. gun shows, illegal sales of weapons, sales to gangs and drug dealers and of course, bigger and better gunz every year, for your local PD! paid for with your tax dollars!

i don’t even have to look it up, i’m so sure. Finland had like, what? 5, maybe 10 gun violence deaths in the last year. lots of countries can boast those kinds of stats. but here? we let any nutjob with a credit card buy bombs, weapons, all sorts of shit.

i am not being hyperbolic when i say we spend *trillions* on “security.” supposedly it’s all going to enterprises which keep us safe. do you feel safe? and again with my previous comment: wow, hate is always written in the flesh on the face of a hater. i’d cross the street, if i saw that guy walking towards me and you should too.

  • That_Looks_Delicious

What we have here is a failure to communicate.

But it could be worse. In Gabon today, protesters set fire to the parliament, apparently because the government won’t publish the recent election results.

    • Gustav2

Trumpians seen to want to set this scenario up for the US.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

That’s a worry. Did you hear that caller to Glenn Beck’s show the other day?

        • Gustav2

          LOL. no.

          • That_Looks_Delicious

No, I’m serious. Trump (and Breitbart and Drudge) has got some of his fans wound up so tight that they seem willing to do anything if they don’t get their way, including burning the country down.

    • Lazycrockett

Brazil impeached their president today also.

      • BobSF_94117

We live in interesting times. Yay us….

      • canoebum

And tomorrow there will be a massive demonstration in Caracas to force the Chavistas to set the date for the Presidential recall. Expect government instigated violence, if not an outright massacre. The Supreme Court (totally owned by the dictatorship), has ruled the security forces may use live fire to quell demonstrations. Demonstrations by mothers seeking food for their children, and patients seeking medicines for their afflictions. Rousseff was an ally of Hugo Chavez.

  • Bitsey Mae

The post is t even on his page anymore. Also, a search turned up what looks to be a fake profile for this man as well.

    • Friday

Hrm, well, the guy that’s they’re actually after is pretty big on Facebook fakery, but it sounds like the actual city councilman was misinformed.

  • Six Pins Delores

Off topic: Racist homophobic NUT Gov. Paul LePage of Maine who said he will not speak to the press again has spoken to the press and said he will seek spiritual counseling.

That ought to fix him right up

  • Johnny Wyeknot

Just tuned in. Totally confused! Which Facebook page is false?
