GEORGIA: Pastor Who Said Pulse Victims “Got What They Deserved” Arrested For Child Molestation

From Jacksonsville’s ABC affiliate:

A Georgia pastor and and conservative political activist was arrested Friday morning on charges of child molestation and aggravated child molestation. Ken Adkins, 56, of St. Simons Island turned himself into police at about 9 a.m., according to officials with Georgia Bureau of Investigation. GBI was requested on Aug. 12 to assist officials with the accusations against Adkins. Adkins is currently in the Glynn County Jail. The investigation is ongoing. Adkins has one church with locations in Brunswick, Jacksonville and Atlanta, according to his website. Adkins recently came under fire when he tweeted “homosexuals got what they deserved” after the deadly mass shooting at Pulse Nightclub. His Twitter account has been set to private.

    Karma is such a bitch.

    • Blake Jordan

Now that is the correct use of the expression, unlike what Milo claims the attack on Leslie Jones is…

    • Beagle

And acted quickly, this time. Pulse was barely 2 months ago.

  • Oh’behr

Sigh. I don’t even know what to say.

    • Lumpy Gaga

Another self-proclaimed baby diddling bishop with no ecclesiastical training. Well, just call me Pope James.

    • Falconlights

Interesting that you should mention that. When I was still Orthodox, I knew a self-proclaimed/consecrated bishop who was at least an ephebophile and possibly a pedophile.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

I am so GLAD this is happening to him
I am so SAD for what he did to those kids.

    LOL!

Where the hell did you find that picture of me on a Friday night….30 years ago?

      • JCF

“…and featuring Derrick Johns as Miss Baby Jane!”

  • Silver Badger

It seems the more stridently they preach hate, the more likely they are to be child molesters.

    • Blake Jordan

Horrible thought though, because there are a lot of virulently anti-LGBTQ+ (or otherwise hateful) people, which could potentially mean a lot of permanently harmed children (people)…

    • DesertSun59

It’s a natural law that when they are so strident they are projecting. A simple background investigation into ANYONE who does this sort of dissing will reveal – at all times – the extent of their crimes. We have literally hundreds of examples as proof.

      • (((dagobarbz)))

Remember when Larry Flynt offered a reward for people who had evidence of politicians’ transgressions?

    • tg p

It’s almost like projection is a real thing. Weird, I know.

  • AW

Ok, so I wanted to say “Schadenfreude” to this. However I just cannot because a child was hurt. I will say that I’m very glad he got caught and arrested and that he can no longer hurt children.

    • Dramphooey

I think mocking him should be part of his punishment. It is well deserved.

      • BearEyes

Put him in the stocks in the town square.

      • perversatile

This mocking you speak of, is it done with pointy sticks?

    • Todd20036

Schadenfreude against the priest, pity for the child.
      Both work.

    • (((dagobarbz)))

Child could sue the bastard and never have to work. That’d be nice.

  • Blake Jordan

As much as I enjoy our opponents been proven to be sexual deviants, criminals,… I can’t help but feel horrified that children were harmed!!!

    • Rex

The real tragedy is that this child will carry the pain of this for the rest of their life.

      • Blake Jordan

That kind of trauma will negatively impact the rest of their lives, and no punishment on the perpetrator will ever fix that…

      • bambinoitaliano

The lifetime harm is not able to learn to trust again. Wreck havoc in personal relationships.

      • tg p

Actually, a LOT of the trauma of childhood sexual abuse comes after the molestation. It’s gravely compounded by the silence and complicity of the community. If the child’s family is supportive, if they get prompt, appropriate therapy, and if the justice system acts promptly to punish the perpetrator, it doesn’t have to be a life sentence. Humans are adaptable and have the capacity to heal from some really bad shit, IF given appropriate support and resources.

        • Chucktech

Seems that too many times the family is supportive… of the “pastor.” And they abound in the forgiveness of gawd, washed in the blood of jesus, and all that pious, gag-me gawd crap.

          • Falconlights

It’s sad to see how many parents will support someone like this “pastor” instead of their own child. The whole thing is just sickening. Right up there with incest victims being blamed for their abuse by (usually) their mother.

        • leDaver

If there is early intervention to help the child to understand that they are not to blame, that a crime was committed against them, they will heal. It is a long process, though, and early intervention is important.

          • Notmymess

Sadly, too many of us had no intervention at all. We had to start the healing process as adults. It is long and painful.

          • Remy John Hoefer

Yes , We have did have a tough road . and it did not happen till very late in adult life along with drugs and drinking . But on a better path now . Hope you are in a better place in your life now

        • cleos_mom

The silence and complicity part seems to be a specialty when the molester is a member of the clergy. Not surprising in the context of a religion based on exploitation of guilt.

        • greenmanTN

Or the silence and complicity of the child, for NOT “telling” at the time, the later feeling that they helped perpetuate it, in some way took part in their own abuse. That’s the reason for Age Of Consent laws. Before a certain age, young people CANNOT give informed consent, for the simple reason that they are not informed, don’t have enough maturity to information.

          • StudioTodd

Very true…and the perpetrators are not just catholic priests and sports coaches. In terms of my ability to trust or maintain relationships, I’m still paying the price for what my parent’s “friend” did to me. I never spoke about it with my parents (or anyone else, for that matter, until some 20 years later).

          • Remy John Hoefer

ME as well and I hope you are in a better place now

I guess. A large number of them do seem to have goatees, don’t they?

          • Trump Rally And NAMBLA Clash Heads Over Convention Center
            https://theinnerloopblog.wordpress.com/2016/04/10/trump-rally-and-nambla-clash-heads-over-convention-center/

Rochester, NY- A surprising turn of events has now seen Donald Trump’s political machine having to slow its tour because of a scheduling conflict.

The Rochester Tech Park was already booked for the national meeting of the NAMBLA (North American Man Boy Love Association), a group that advocates for pedophiles and child molesters.

Talks were heated Saturday when Trump’s campaign argued that their needs were greater, and that the campaign had had the reservation for nearly a week. The boy touchers merely grunted at this and started staring at nearby children.

After a busy Saturday of discussion over who would eventually use the Tech Park, they came to an agreement that both could use it at the same time.

Katrina Pierson, Trump’s campaign spokesperson, publicly announced that “Trump supporters and registered child molesters have much in common, and will be able to share the space with relative ease, since there was already so much cross-pollination between groups.”

Donald Trump refused to comment because he was too busy eating farts.

Both rallies are happening today at the Rochester Tech Park and will be followed by a private Q&A press conference for Trump with local news teams, and the NAMBLA “Boy Wranglin’” event, in which NAMBLA members invite their fellow Trump supporters to help them round up all of the little boys in the area.

This says ” young man ”

Lawyer Kevin Gough told the Times-Union he is representing Adkins and believes the accusations are said to have occurred in 2010. He said Adkins had willingly turned himself in.

His wife, Charlotte Stormy Adkins, said she and the congregation support Adkins and are disappointed in the rush to judgment against him. She is confident he will be cleared of all charges but shares her husband’s concern for the young man who came forward with the allegations.

        http://jacksonville.com/news/crime/2016-08-26/story/controversial-pastor-and-activist-ken-adkins-charged-child-molestation

Like Phil Robertson , Kim Davis and Pastor James David Manning he has a troubled past …

Adkins has said he benefitted from a second chance himself after he developed a serious cocaine addiction and eventually “hit rock bottom” when he spent 10 months in the Duval County jail in 1996-97 on drug-related crimes.

    • Kruhn

Can we start penalizing the organizations who condone this type of behavior. I’m respectful of religion, but this is too much!

We need a total ban on Christian leaders being around children. Until we figure out what’s going on.

    • agcons

A quick guess: like most criminals, pedophiles don’t want to work too hard to get what they want, so they’ll gravitate to careers and/or extracurricular activities that make it easy for them. That is, a position of some kind of authority over their target population, and easy access to that population.

Becoming a teacher, a priest, or a youth group leader would give them those things, but also with heightened public suspicion and therefore scrutiny. Preachers don’t (yet) receive the same scrutiny because Jeeziz.

I’m really sick of these kiddie diddling christian preachers calling gay people pedophiles when in fact most pedophiles are straight christian men like this guy. I’ll make a wild guess that he’s probably got children of his own. I hope they throw the book at him.

    • (((dagobarbz)))

Used to hang with some of the kid prostitutes in San Francisco. The most horrific thing I ever heard one of those kids say is that most of their clients were married with children.

      That wasn’t the horrific part.

The horrific part was the clients telling my friends, “You remind me of my son.”

There’s a vast world of hideous perversion hidden in our society.

      • Nowhereman–Berniecrat

I have never ever understood how anyone could harm a child that way.

  • Cboulder

Just another indication that this shit isn’t limited to Catholics and that all religious people should be kept away from children!

    • Friday

Maybe not just Catholics, but monotheist haters aren’t “all religious people” either.

      • motordog

My experience with such folks has given me the following formula; a deeply religious person’s basic morality is directly inverse to how loud they are about their faith.

        • popebuck1

Or as Jesus said (at least half a dozen times in various ways), don’t pay attention to what people SAY about their faith, pay attention to what they DO.

        • Herald

That is my experience as well and I grew up and worked in that world for a very long time.

Au Revoir, tried to mock a tragedy involving the deaths of most likely LGBT patrons in gay nightclub, when you were somewhere at sometime molesting a child. Whatever you hide in the dark, will always come out in the light.

See christers, the real pedophiles lurk within the walls of the institution in which you use to demonize, dehumanize, people you do not like with regards to your religion, in this case being LGBT people.

But please tell me more about the icky gays, or how transegender people are threats to your wife or your child.

    • (((dagobarbz)))

If they repent, they’re forgiven and allowed back to continue abusing.
That has got to be one of the stupidest safeguards Christianity ever built into their doctrine that protects scammers of all sorts and allows them to continue.

Disgusting? Yes. Surprising? No. And just wait – somehow it will still be the fault of those nasty homosexuals. It won’t be his fault, God will forgive him ’cause he prayed a lot, and his congregation will get to feel special ’cause they’ll suffer with him. Harsh conservative Christian moralizing to others: A way to deflect your own dysfunctions and moral transgressions. If it’s not a robust law of psychology, then there at least must be some significant statistical correlation.

    • popebuck1

It’s kind of a no-brainer, isn’t it? People obsessed with loudly condemning other people’s sex lives, do it because they have something to hide about their own.

When you raise kids to think of their own natural sexual urges as deadly sins to be suppressed at all costs, you’re bound to get people “acting out” like this.

In an era when food preservation was iffy, that would be a horror. We have a little room here which the original family’s lore says was excavated to hide their valuables from The Yankees. A smart visitor said “hams”. Later research indicated the Yankees didn’t come to this spot and that they were probably hiding those hams not from the Yankees but from Confederate demand. Yankee incursions might be passing – but Confederate requisition of civilian resources was draining, constant, for years. “They’re comin’ for our hams!” would have struck fear.

“I still have many things to say to you, but you cannot bear them now. When the Spirit of truth comes, [She] will guide you into all the truth” [John 16:12-13]

In short, Christians like myself believe the Bible was never intended to be the “final” word on things. Revelation (or inspiration of the human conscience) continues. Whether one believes that Jesus either 1) knew slavery was immoral, but that it was too embedded in ancient cultures (it was just the “Biblical” worldview, y’know!) of his time or 2) in his human nature, simply wasn’t aware of slavery as systemic evil, doesn’t matter as much as his proclamation (cited above) that our wisdom and understanding would continue to grow. “It Gets Better”: the understanding of “do unto others” means NOT enslaving them (!) is Exhibit A.

    http://floridapolitics.com/archives/197576-pastor-ken-adkins-calls-out-african-american-council-members

Brunswick, Georgia pastor Kenneth Adkins had a busy holiday season, with a lot of time spent attacking Councilman Tommy Hazouri for desiring to expand Jacksonville’s Human Rights Ordinance

He started off the New Year calling out four other Council members: Garrett Dennis, Katrina Brown, Reggie Brown, and Reggie Gaffney.

    Adkins’ language was typically florid.

“These four African American Jacksonville City Council Members will vote on whether Transgendered Men and Pedifiles will be able to Pee Next to your 8 year old daughters and Granddaughters. (HRO) I hope Black Pastors hold them accountable and not
allow them to come to their churches while supporting the bill to allow Homosexuals to sue your church and Christian business owners who refuse to be subservient to the Homosexual spirit,” Adkins wrote on a Facebook post (and all spelling/construction anomalies are in the original).

One of the two charges against the 56-year-old is aggravated child molestation, said Stacy Carson, special agent in charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s Kingsland office.

District Attorney Jackie Johnson asked the GBI on Aug. 12 to assist the Brunswick Police Department in an investigation of an accusation of child molestation against Adkins, Carson said. The investigation focused on suspected molestation in several locations in the Brunswick area including at Adkins’ church, a vehicle and a victim’s home, Carson said. The investigation is ongoing.

At a news conference Friday afternoon in Brunswick, Adkins’ attorney Kevin Glough told reporters he was contacted Thursday by the Brunswick pastor after a warrant was issued for his arrest.

“Warrants say that these events took place in 2010 and that’s a long time. We don’t know why they’re coming up now,” Glough said. “We’d like to think that these charges or their timing isn’t politically motivated, we’d certainly hope not and we’re not saying they are. The “ministry” in Bible licking, shout-and-holler churches has long been a top career choice among men who are too unskilled to hold up a 7-11 and too chicken to risk getting shot. Fundamentalist Christians seem particularly easy marks for these members of the criminal class and there must be abundant opportunities for fucking as well given the emotion-driven idolizing of these “pastors.” “Bishop” also seems to be a favored title among the more egregious slime. You’d think that by now calling oneself a “bishop” would be a heads-up, but the Christian learning curve isn’t actually a curve, being flat and all.

    From 2012:
Pastor Kenneth Adkins is on a mission to stop the spread of HIV and AIDS in the Brunswick community.

“My job today, my assignment today is to make people aware of the need to get tested,” Adkins said. “We’re going to pass out condoms to people who are having unprotected sex. My goal from that really is to keep them healthy enough to preach to them, [providing] a new level of waiting until they’re married.”

Adkins says he was alarmed by the high HIV infection rates for blacks in Glynn County and the Brunswick area.

“The highest new cases of HIV and AIDS are young people, they are African-American females, and they’re African-American males who are having male-on-male sex,” he said.

Adkins’ outreach also involves a “Get tested Sunday” he is sponsoring at his church, Greater Dimension Fellowship. The pastor is teaming up with the Coastal Region Health Department to provide free HIV/AIDS testing at the church for anyone who shows up. Adkins says he is getting tested himself in the pulpit.

Locals have already taken notice of Adkins’ crusade against HIV.

“I think it’s a good idea to get everybody out in the community and join,” said Angela Stanley. Adkins says his goal is necessary in the Brunswick community.

    • boatboy_srq

This sounds almost reasonable. What happened between then and now?

      • Lumpy Gaga

        Their outreach grant ran out.

      • PeterC

I would assume that he got tested too; just forgot to tell anyone the results of his test.

  • boatboy_srq

Hmm. Rabid homophobe Xtian wingnut has child molestation issues. Whodathunk.

    • Spongebob CrankyPants

Alleged child molestation issues. Accusation does equal guilt. Why do people always forget that part?

      • boatboy_srq

Allegations sufficient to warrant arrest. It’s Georgia, so there is a possibility he’s just guilty of Preaching While Black, but abuse of minors charges generally require statements from the kids or photo/video evidence for an arrest.

Are you suggesting the charges are false for reasons we don’t yet know, or that the kids all went along with leading questions from the child advocates (“show us where the bad Bishop touched you?”)?

      • Adam King

Boatboy didn’t say he was guilty, he said there were “issues.” Those issues aren’t “alleged,” they’re charged–he’s actually in jail. That’s a fact.

  • kmcdevitt

Generally, one just has to wait a while…

  • MB

In response to the news of Adkins’ arrest, the mayor, Lenny Curry, sent WJCT this statement:

“I know nothing more about the allegations than what has been reported in the news, but it sickens me. If he is found to have done what he stands accused of, he deserves the fullest punishment the law allows,” Curry said.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

This bishop is no knight. Quite likely the hardened prisoners in Glynn County will peg him as a rook and work him over relentlessly. His days of treating children as sacrificial pawns are over. En passant, one should mention that if Ben Carson’s theories are correct, he should emerge a raging queen if he ever gets out of prison. Checkmate, “Bishop” Adkins!

Setting Google search results to news-only and searching for “Minister arrested for sex crime” returns no less than 1,300,000 news articles from professional news organizations.

Searching for “Pastor arrested for sex crime” returns no less than 97,000 news articles from professional news organizations.

Searching for “Priest arrested for sex crimes” returns no less than 86,500 news articles from professional news organizations.

Together, they total 1,483,500 news articles from professional news organizations about Ministers, Pastors and Priests molesting and raping children.

Nearly 1.5 million news articles about Ministers, Pastors and Priests molesting and raping children… that’s mind boggling.

If children were molested and raped at Chuck E. Cheese as much as they’re molested and raped around Christian churches and clergy, it would be illegal to take your kids to Chuck E. Cheese.

The implications are clear, religious leaders are a clear and present danger to the children in this country. They must be banned from interacting with any child until they can prove that they are not a risk to that child.

I would really love to see a serious study by a statistician on this curious phenomenon.

There has got to be some hidden pattern that could lead to a nice elegant algorithm predicting the ever increasing probabability of being a perv based on the number of times a person has.spoken about his fear that someone else is a perv.

  • tommy5677

Wait. I thought it was them thar homosexuals that were the child molesters. Isn’t that what they keep telling us?

  • Gianni

This indicates a recurring theme. The loudest, holiest, Bible-Bangingest, bigots need to be quickly and thoroughly investigated from the year they turned 16 years old. It seems to be that the most vocal and belligerent haters have the most to hide. I guess the guilt of their own sexual sins causes them to lash out at others to point out their sins. Sad really.

I worked for over thee yrs on a Sex Offender Unit in a State Psych Hospital. People would be shocked at how many Clergy Members I was involved in treating during that time. People from all walks of life but the holy rollers were the worst of the bunch. Every one that came through that program had at least 20 prior victims, those were the ones we knew about and it’s estimated that for every one of those there are 10 that went unreported.
After 3 yrs of listening to their sick BS all I could think was it would have been better for society to have just shot em in the back of the head and been done with it. Every single one of em eventually re-offended.

  • Michael Hampton

It just goes to show you that these “pastors” and “preachers” who hate us are just deflecting the attention off of their own sins.

  • Golf Pro

This is nothing new. What is new is instead of getting swept under the rug, the legal system is involved now because it is no longer taboo to talk about child rape. One still has to wonder when driving by all the houses of make believe (worship), what has gone unreported and what is going on now to children in the name of gawd. If only 10% of child rape by the gawd business is reported, that means 90% is not. That is just a stat I made up but, use your own percentage.
