Marco Rubio: No Abortions For Zika-Infected Women

Politico reports:

Sen. Marco Rubio said Saturday that he doesn’t believe a pregnant woman infected with the Zika virus should have the right to an abortion — even if she had reason to believe the child would be born with severe microcephaly.

“I understand a lot of people disagree with my view – but I believe that all human life is worthy of protection of our laws. And when you present it in the context of Zika or any prenatal condition, it’s a difficult question and a hard one,” Rubio told POLITICO. “But if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”

Abortion and Zika became politically intertwined in June when Congress failed to pass a Zika-relief bill, in part due to a dispute over Planned Parenthood. Zika has started to spread quickly through Florida, which now has 422 cases — more than any other state in the nation — and it has alarmed families and health experts because the virus has been linked to severe microcephaly in infants born to some infected pregnant women.

They believe some are born to wealth and privilege, some are destined by god to become wealthy and privileged, and the rest of humanity is simply there to wallow in poverty and serve those who have been ordained by god to be the “nobility”
The right wing has no pity or empathy and they justify it by a world vison of preordained, natural selection.
You had sex, and got bitten by a zika infected mosquito. Its god’s will.
The baby is deformed, its god’s will.

Exactly. It’s the mindset of my family. Funny how my mom raised us 4 kids with the help of food stamps and state health care yet she now thinks like this after marrying money. It’s tough when relatives go off the deep end. I have an aunt (who ironically used to be the “cool” aunt and our favorite aunt when we were kids and she was single) who later turned into a Republican after she got married. At that point, it was just minor political disagreements. But then after she got divorced she fell in with this really off-the-deep-end friend and started emailing stuff to the family that would almost qualify as Nazi pamphlets. I (and several of my cousins) had to start blocking her e-mails. It’s not that I don’t still love her and have very fond memories of her, but you just never knew when one of her e-mails would be sweet and friendly and the next thing you know one of them would be one of those horrible racist things.

      • JCF

        :-(..

      • NancyP

        Anencephaly, not microcephaly.

        • omfg that’s even worse, though the photo remains relevent. These babies have NO life.
“Anencephaly is one of the most serious cephalic disorders and afflicts 1,000-2,000 babies born in the United States annually. Female infants are affected more often than males. Infants born with this disorder have no forebrain—the main portion of the cerebrum, responsible for thinking and coordination.
==>Brain tissue that does develop often is not covered by bone or skin.
The cause of anencephaly remains unknown. A developmental failure occurs between the 23rd and 26th days of pregnancy. The cephalic (or head) end of the neural tube fails to close, and major portions of the brain, skull, and scalp do not develop. Recent studies suggest the addition of folic acid to the diet of women in their child-bearing years may reduce the incidence of neural tube defects, suggesting that factors associated with diet and vitamins may play a role.

Anencephalic infants typically are born blind, deaf, unconscious, and insensitive to pain. Some may have a rudimentary brainstem that permits reflex actions such as breathing and, in some cases, responsiveness to sound or touch.

Anencephaly often can be diagnosed before birth through an ultrasound examination.

Without a functioning cerebrum, anencephalic infants cannot gain consciousness. Most anencephalic infants are stillborn or die within a few hours or days after birth.

The Republicans were in favor of federal funding to fight the virus — with certain provisions. (bold font added)

“Democrats charged that Republicans had booby-trapped the legislation by adding provisions that would restrict the role of Planned Parenthood, the
women’s health organization, and similar clinics in providing
contraceptive services related to fighting the Zika virus, which can be
    transmitted sexually.

“The Democrats also said that Republicans had inserted a provision cutting
$540 million in financing from the Affordable Care Act,
    President
Obama’s signature health care law, and that they had stripped a House provision that would ban the flying of the Confederate battle flag in federal cemeteries.

“Another provision of the bill that Democrats disliked was a further
reallocation of money from Ebola programs, totaling $107 million.
Democrats have long maintained that money previously appropriated to
    fight Ebola is vitally needed.”

Abortion and Zika became politically intertwined in June when Congress
failed to pass a Zika-relief bill, in part due to a dispute over Planned
    Parenthood.

The “dispute” was the GOP trying to use any and all means to defund Planned Parenthood.

    • GayOldLady

If the GOP had it’s way there would be no access to birth control or abortion in the U.S. They’ve fought to allow employers to refuse coverage of contraceptives, they fight against all of the Women who are helped by Planned Parenthood even knowing that abortion is a very small percentage of what PP does. They truly DO NOT want women to be able to control their own reproductive systems, but instead want women’s bodies to be subject to religious laws born in the dark ages.

      • Sporkfighter

“If the GOP had it’s way there would be no access to birth control or abortion in the U.S.”

      • Traxley Launderette

If the GOP had its way, people who couldn’t afford health care, housing, or food to feed themselves and their kids would die. And they’d be perfectly fine with that.

        • Sporkfighter

And most of the people who couldn’t afford health care, housing or food are the very people the Republicans expect to vote for them, and they’re right.

        • PattyJM

          What’s the difference?

    • Uncle Mark

What’s worse than the GOP JUST trying to defund Planned Parenthood was that they added a last F U by including a provision to erect Confederate flags over Federal cemeteries. It becomes painfully obvious that the GOP doesn’t care about Zika or defunding Planned Parenthood….or about the lives of Americans at all.

      • Silver Badger

Uncle Mark, this is not news, it’s olds.

        • Uncle Mark

Yes, it’s old, but some folks need to be reminded. You’d be surprised how many people were unaware of the Confederate flag addition. Zika hits the mainland US while Congress plays politics with public health

Unfortunately, when Washington and the states can’t agree on what to do about a potential epidemic, history shows that that the burden of dealing with it falls heavily on public hospitals, public health departments, and local safety-net providers. That’s what happened 30 years ago with HIV/AIDS. Many of these providers are already overwhelmed dealing with poor and uninsured people with chronic conditions, like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes.

Will the funding for programs these people depend on be set aside to deal with the more imminent threat of Zika? Should it be?

It’s important to understand that while Obama is in fact calling on Congress to do this, it’s in part because months ago, they refused to consider funding it when funding it would have done the most good. I’ll settle for the $1.1 billion compromise the Senate came up with, but the House added poison pills to it.

    • DutchBoy74

And to put that into perspective that is like $10 from all the tax payers. $10 to help take care of this issue that I have no problem with. It is a smart use of tax dollars to tackle an urgent real threat to the public.

      • WebSlinger

        True that…

  • GayOldLady

Rubio: “But if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”

Why don’t you err on the side of minding your own goddam business.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

small government for me…..but intrusive, meddling government for you.
as always, they only care and do something proactive when it affects them

      • Uncle Mark

What’s awful is that it REALLY doesn’t affect them, beyond getting some votes from the holier-than-thou crowd.

      • D. J.

Republican Scott DesJarlais is a textbook example of the two sets of rules party.

        • GayOldLady

Yes he is! An absolute hypocrite.

    • Cboulder

Some things really are that simple, aren’t they? Not sarcasm btw

    • Uncle Mark

Yet in all other decisions (beyond sex & procreation), the Republicans want us all to make our own decisions and take responsibility for them. In this case, Marco is saying that the parents don’t know what is best for their child or family.

    • ColdCountry

      YES!!

    • seant426

Hey, Marco, err on the side of this, “FUCK OFF, YOU IGNORANT TWIT!”

    • Falconlights

Good luck with that. Like many bible thumpers and Catholics, they just feel they have to interfere in EVERYTHING.

  • Lazycrockett

This guy was considered a moderate in the GOP 4 years ago???? SMGDH

    • Kruhn

Thing is that the GOP is moving so far to the right, that reactionaries like Mr. Rubio are considered moderates.

  • Ryan Hunter

    Another GOP total moron position.

  • sherman

This is the party that likes to claim ownership of respecting the Constitution.

Of course when they disagree with the people whose actual job it is to specify what is constitutional, they suddenly don’t respect the Constitution.

  • Steven Leahy

I somehow bet if he were a female of childbearing age, exposed to something like this, faced with the possibility of an infected and deformed baby and all the issues around that, his position might somehow be different.

  • Lakeview Bob

I hope this stupid comment derails this fucker’s reelection bid. And I can guarantee you this same fucker would be totally opposed to any social program to help the families of these unfortunate children.

  • Raising_Rlyeh

Yes, life is so fucking sacred that you are going to force a woman to give birth to an infant with microcephaly. Such a wonderful life they are going to have. What with the common symptoms of “intellectual disability, poor motor function, poor speech, abnormal facial features, seizures, and dwarfism.” I’m sure Rubio is going to work hard to make sure that the families that have children with microcephaly are going to get all the money they need in order to take care of a person who will never be able to live on their own.

    • ohbear1957

Florida: the State with the Highest Job Security for Special Educators.

  • coram nobis

So, is he going to provide funding for the mothers and families that have to care for this child? Or the states that have to provide additional medical services and special-education funding for that child’s life? Or even funding for mosquito abatement or vaccine research?

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/06/28/why-congress-is-probably-not-approving-any-zika-funding-this-summer/

    Of course not.

  • bambinoitaliano

I would abort Marco Rubio knowing that he will turn out to be an arsehole that affect lives of millions.

  • Steven Leahy

These people aren’t and never were about freedom and constitutionalism. They’re religionists and moralists who use that as a cover in their never-ending quest to control everyone.

  • Matt

In other news, Little Marco is still a whiny, petulant, ignorant ‘doosh.’ Florida, do yourselves a favor and rid your state of this waste of space. He should be allowed nowhere near public office ever again.

    • djcoastermark

We’re trying, trust me, we’re trying. It would be so nice not to see that embarrassment ever again.

  • SoCalGal20

I can’t stand men like him. You know goddamn well that if men were the ones who got pregnant, Little Marco and guys like him would be the first in line to get an abortion and there would be clinics in every town.

    • Steven Leahy

They’ve never had anything but zero ability to empathize, understand or relate to anyone not exactly like them, on any issue.

    • Cackalaquiano

Oh the clinics would be drive-through, and you get a tax credit for it.

      • SoCalGal20

        Absolutely.

      • ohbear1957

Hallmark stores would stock “Congratulations on Your Abortion” cards.

  • canoebum

“I understand a lot of people disagree with my view”. But you’ll try to shove it onto to them anyway. What a heartless prick. How has he made this far in life without being run over by a bus? The stupidity and arrogance is breathtaking.

    • William

I’m shocked he hasn’t died after getting his head caught in the Dispos-All.

      • Silver Badger

        I’m not shocked, just disappointed.

    • Cackalaquiano

I’m ready for a law to be passed that male politicians cannot express an opinion or vote on any abortion measure.

    • CraigNJ

He is only using his religious freedom to force his deeply held moral beliefs on every woman in the country

  • Sporkfighter

The social conservative motto: “It makes me squeamish, so you can’t do it. Too bad if it ruins your life.”

  • zhera

And what’s you stand on death penalty, Marco? Is that something worthy of ‘erring on the side of life?’

(I think it is, but the hypocrisy of these Jesus-lickers is getting quite predictable.)

  • William

Let us know when your home for Zika babies opens.

    • Silver Badger

“Let us know when your home is open for Zika babies”. There, fixed it for you.

      • ohbear1957

I hope Marco has room in his yard for the daycare center and special education facilities that will be needed.

        • Silver Badger

Not to mention the medical equipment.

  • I believe the ability to terminate a pregnancy is crucial to a woman’s right to self-determination, Zika or not.

  • madknits

This should surprise no one. After all, Marco Rubio was born without a brain.

  • lymis

So, hey, everybody, Marco Rubio just agreed to adopt any of your children that are born with severe handicaps because of the health threat that the Republicans refused to fund prevention of.

Oh, he didn’t? Then he needs to shut the f**k up.

  • William

So Marco, you will fully support Planned Parenthood’s efforts to make birth control available to everyone who wants or needs it?

    • Homo Erectus

No, silly! and he’ll vote to overturn Obamacare so the family will have nowhere to go for medical help. Like Alan Grayson said: The republican healthcare policy is “Die quickly”.

      • William

and die quietly, out of our view.

  • Joe h

Correction, he does not think any woman as the right to an abortion, Zika has nothing to do with it.

  • JT
  • Lee Grupsmith

I have on purpose not paid that much attention to little marco. I only ask this: Does he have a daughter?

    • bzrd

      two

      • Karl Dubhe

Neither of whom will ever have to worry about abortion. As if they have one, it’ll be a ‘moral’ abortion, unlike the abortions that those other women get.

        • ChrisMorley

Their dad is realy weird on religion and his four kids are probably just as screwed up.
Rubio attends Christ Fellowship, a Southern Baptist Church[213] in West Kendall, Florida,[214] as well as Catholic Mass at Church of the Little Flower in Coral Gables, Florida.
          https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marco_Rubio

          • Karl Dubhe

            Baptist and Catholic? Fuuuu…

I was raised Anglican and went to a French Catholic School. That made me abandon faith for reason. I hope his kids do the same.

You know as well as I do that his faith is nothing more than pandering. 🙂

          • KarenAtFOH

Christ Fellowship for the politicking, Mass for the guilt.

    • ChrisMorley
      • Excellent. Perfect age for giving Grandpa Marco the little microcephalic grandchildren he so wants the women of Florida to have.

        • CraigNJ

They are in Florida so 15 is about the time girls get knocked up there. That’s how it went with FOUR of my nieces and will likely happen with his girls. That’s what you get with abstenance only education and little to no access to birth control or abortion – unwed 15 year old girls having babies, and now Zika babies.

  • Bluto

    fuck you little marco.

    • Todd20036

How many bullets does the vagina hold?

      • motordog

        Don’t know…I’ve never cocked one…

        • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

          Good one.

        • JCF

        • GanymedeRenard

Wonders how he/she/zhe is able to write without a head.

  • Cackalaquiano

“I believe that all human life is worthy of protection of our laws.”
Except that he freakin loves the death penalty, unfettered gun access, and wars declared against brown people.

  • Uncle Mark

Marco’s constituents can take comfort in the knowledge that while they’re forced to give birth to children born with microcephaly, Marco & his buddies had gambled with their babys’ health in their efforts to defund Planned Parenthood and raise Confederate flags over Federal cemeteries.

How much more money will the state of Florida have to spend to pay for these forced-birth “blessings” that will be given up for adoption to be taken care of by the state? How much will the state be willing to pay for these special needs, short-lived “blessings”? We already can see that Marco is already saying “tough-titty” to helping the affected families with the financial & emotional burden (except by giving them thoughts & prayers.) Be assured that affected families will say “tough-titty” to Marco & his cohorts come Election Day.

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

Anyone with an ounce of compassion and empathy should say “tough-titty” to this theocratic dictatorship wannabe come election day.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

“I believe that all human life is worthy of protection of our laws” until it’s out of the womb, at which point, I don’t give a rat ass what the little bastard needs.

There, I fixed it for you Little Marco.

  • Brian in Valdosta

Let his wife or his daughter contract Zika, and then sit back and watch him change his tune.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

      The Republican way of ‘evolving’

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

He won’t. He’ll do like all rich bigoted hypocrites over the ages. They’d have an abortion quietly elsewhere, far from the inquisitive gaze of the local populace.

  • Marti386

Another reason why any woman who votes for Trump is clinically insane.

    • Falconlights

Rethuglican woman ARE clinically insane. But like the little Xtian hypocrites they are the wealthier ones will just go someplace where abortion is legal and have one there.

  • goofy_joe

I still fail to see how any woman’s choice has anything to do with his feelings on the matter.

  • Homo Erectus

One more reason for all thinking Floridians to vote on Aug. 30th!

  • Bill_Perdue

He’s a total pig who wants women and children to suffer.

  • Bj Lincoln

It’s not your business to force a woman to have an unhealthy child if she doesn’t want to for any reason.

  • Cherry

My best friend from high school, her daughter just announced her 2nd pregnancy. They live in St Augustine, FL. I don’t understand why a woman would want to get pregnant right now with the possibility of your baby getting a birth defect, etc. she is in her early 20’s, it’s not as if she’s getting too old to have a baby. Why not wait until the science catches up?

    Very frightened for her.

    • motordog

…or even until the ‘mosquito season’ is over…

  • SLK in SF

He’s an Abortion Nazi. NO ABORTION FOR YOU!

  • Octavio

Me cago en el coño de la madre del pequeño come mierde. Ha llegado el momento de que estaba muerto.

  • easygoingmister

Someone needs to pinch this twerps head off. I mean really.

(Disclaimer: this is colloquial language I learned from my hillbilly grandmother – it, in no way, should be construed as I actually think the man should be beheaded. It is not a “terroristic threat” – it is what old country ladies say while shelling peas on the porch in a rocking chair.)

  • CraigNJ

So I guess that means he’s against capital punishment?

  • Sam_Handwich

and if a woman makes that choice, there’s not a fucking thing you can do about it but whine

  • Gerry Fisher

Do you believe in this? [waves a pocket constitution]

  • Mark

Well, lil Marco, that’s mighty straight white republican of you.

  • Falconlights

Tell ya what, Marco. How about you agree to pay all the lifetime costs associated with raising these children? Otherwise, STFU.

  • Sam_Handwich

the GOP platform, and i assume Rubio’s position as well, would force a 14 year old girl who was raped and impregnated by her father to give birth to his ejaculatory handiwork.

that’s how fucked up modern conservatism is.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

Just need to add that babydaddy had zika.

    • Ninja0980

Hey in the Middle East the girl would be killed so she should just suck it up just like the LGBT people here that Marco wants to make into second class citizens.

  • D. J.

I hope this will cause a mass exodus of men and women from the GOP.
Demand your rights, ladies, take to the streets and march, hold sit-ins, protest.
Nobody gets what they want if they don’t ask for/demand it.
I know a woman who carried an anencephalic child to term years ago. The child died minutes after delivery.
Decades later she still bears the psychological scars of that experience. She wishes she had not taken that pregnancy to term. I can empathise with that, but I will never know first hand the trauma she and her husband endured.
Rubio needs to mind his own fucking business and let the rest of us mind ours without interference.
The GOP “leaders” made all the wrong calls in the Schiavo case. Her autopsy proved it.

    • catherinecc

Facts do not matter to GOP voters.

      • D. J.

I know, but the dream is better than the nightmare…..

  • Wynter Marie Starr

I just read an article which said it cot at least 10 million dollars to care for these poor babies. I think that should come out of this assholes pocket. Most Americans, even those that are pro birth agree women with pregnancies affected by Zika should be allowed abortions.

If it were me, I’d be sending the baby straight to his house and let him deal with it. He can go fuck himself. When he is able to get pregnant, he can decide what to do with his pregnancy. I doubt he’d have this stand if it were his wife.

    • Johnny Wyeknot

Florida will take it out of their disaster relief fund, no doubt.

      • that northern tax dollars pay for.

        • x

northern tax dollars you never contributed a dime to since you can never hold a job long enough to have any tax liability.

ever finish your master’s? so no need to pull out that lie about you having a doctorate.

  • CatApostrophe

The question is a difficult and a hard one.

Someone got a thesaurus last Christmas!

  • Johnny Wyeknot

So we treat animals with more humanity than we do people?

    • Reality.Bites

      He wouldn’t.

  • Cboulder

Well, ‘lil Marco, I guess when you get pregnant, we can listen to what you choose, until then, it’s their choice. See how easy that is!

  • dcurlee

So I guess he is willing to open his home to raise these children. Fucking idiot like all the GOP

    • AJ Drew

Oh c’mon, we all know the GOP stance… sacred until born… then, get a job or die.

  • Richard B

I hope the citizens of Florida wake up and recognize that Marco Rubio is nothing more than a lazy, pandering, lying, opportunistic creep.

  • DutchBoy74

This idiot writes his own attack ads.
I mean doesn’t he have anything else to campaign on? How boring. How cliche.

Typical republican generic spew on social progress.

Perhaps his sugar daddy has something else lined up for him or he can go back to tending the clubhouse bar.

  • D. J.

Rubio: “I believe all human life should be protected by our law, irrespective of the circumstances or condition of that life.”
So, he’s against capital punishment, too?
Hmmm, I doubt it…….Marco’s just another Republican hypocrite.

    • Talisman

and all for helping living, breathing children who *are not* in the womb…

  • secretlab

I understand a lot of people disagree with my view – but I believe that the true cause of microcephaly is conservatism.

    • Joseph Miceli

Which raises the ethical question: if you can identify these defective conservatives in the womb, should you abort them?

  • anne marie in philly

lil marco’s mother should have aborted him!

  • olandp

“..I believe that all human life is worthy of protection of our laws.” Except, you know, women, blacks, homos, Muslims, Hispanics who aren’t Cuban, you know, those who aren’t white men…

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

… and, of course, we don’t want to provide health care for them once they’re out of the womb. They have to fend for themselves, then.

  • thatotherjean

Until Marco Rubio is willing to quit politics, adopt a couple of severely microcephalic infants and care for them himself so he knows what parents of zika-affected children face, he needs to shut up about other people’s choices.

  • witch

Right fool, let these children live a short life filled with pain and misery because you’re so god like.

  • SilasMarner

That’s just fine asshat, YOU and your bitch raise those children with all the heartache and all the expenses that go with them. No? I thought not jerkoff.

  • Thorn Spike

Too bad abortion is legal, Lil’ Marco. Now kindly stfu.

  • seant426

He should be fired simply for this view. What an ass. Just get rid of this shithead, already.

  • Note to Marco…

  • tamiasmin

“But if I’m going to err, I’m going to err on the side of life.”

Sounds as if Ryan is admitting that it’s a hard decision, with the possibility of error. That’s a pro-choice position.

  • Joseph Miceli

Fuck you, you arrogant little piece of shit! If Marco Rubio could get pregnant he’d be an advocate for publicly placing RU486 vending machines on every street corner.
Every life is sacred, so you’d tie a woman to a deformed baby for the rest of her life without ever having to take the risk of it happening to you?
Here’s a radical idea: TRUST WOMEN TO MAKE THEIR OWN CHOICES AND SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU LITTLE ASSHOLE!!!!!

    • Up vote x10 billion

      • Epona

I found a great new photo for your profile pic, ’cause I think you need one. 😉 Why won’t Mediaite let us upload photos?! https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/3d436f0c0522edf4246ece7b89ce0c3bdc4b99f213a2293615b76fab29f33288.jpg

        • Lol! That’s great!
I have no idea why mediate restricts pictures. Maybe too many people posting dumb memes. Who knows?
Maybe if I ever change my name to something else. But IMHO, a featureless, indistinguishable gray outline seems to match the screen name perfectly.

          • Epona

LoL. I found some questionable others, I thought you may not enjoy. 😉

Did you get my dumb email? And better yet, did you see the DUMB thing Katrina Pierson said this morning? The best!

          • I saw the dumb thing Pierson said.
            I will now check email.
Did you delete your recent comment on that Pierson thread? I tried to reply to it, but it was gone.

          • Epona

No, some dummy flagged it as SPAM. Can you believe that?

          • Wow, that is odd. Strangeness on Disqus, what else is new?

          • Epona

Twice I posted and twice it was flagged. So … Frustrating.

          • All I can guess is maybe there was some wording in it that triggered automatic moderation. It would be nice if some hint as to what caused a comment to be flagged, or moderated was given. Probably too much to ask.

          • Epona

They are “reviewing” it. But yet that skank hawking McLarens … Everyday.

          • Those trolls are good at avoiding the automatic moderation filters. Hours upon hours and thousands of comments of experience.
Plus, I think new accounts have stricter filtering for some reason. I think you have to build a “reputation” before the filters allow certain things past. Overly complex Disqus software.

          • Read your email, and issued a rambling response. Lol! I hope it makes some sense.
I’m due to head into the city for a little R&R with my wife and sister-in-law. We are going to the Ginza festival. So I may not be back on until late this evening.

          • Epona

Sure, thanks. I hope you have a really nice day. You deserve to have a little fun. I hope things have continued to improve for your sister.

          • I have yet to get an update on her status from my Brother in law since yesterday. I’m a little peeved. I will give him a bit more time to respond, and then call him. I understand he is under stress, but I think letting her family know what’s up is not too much to ask. I may end up calling our Doctor friend to get an update. I hate bothering her, she is extremely busy and has her own family too. *sigh*
            This too shall pass.

          • Epona

Sometimes you just get exhausted talking about it. This is something I know unfortunately. That’s why sometimes I hesitate to ask you about her status. But … he has to understand that you’re family and desperately need to be updated. He should save all his energy for you all and maybe decline other people’s requests for information. I hope that makes some sense.

          • Yeah, I know what you are saying. Which is why I am giving him some time.
But at some point, her siblings are entitled to a little information on her status, and right now, he is the main source of that information.

          • Epona

Mitt! Did you have a good time at the festival? I hope so.

          • It was a great time. They had several musical shows on an outdoor stage. Two different taiko groups, another group with a fancy Japanese stringed instrument I cannot remember the name of, and finally a blues/jazz group with a Japanese woman singer – pianist. The sax player was an 85 year old local jazz legend. The also had some dancers, and of course plenty of food and some vendors of Japanese knick knacks, kimono, etc.
We got home about an hour ago .

          • Epona

That does sound like a great time! I love Japanese food. I hope you ate a lot for me. 😉

          • We love it too! I ate my fill, and then some. I’m still stuffed.
How was your day, feeling better?

          • Epona

I was, but now I’m a little yucky. It could be the cough syrup making me high … Not in a good way. 🙁

          • You probably just need some rest.
Cough syrup can be so vile tasting at times, I’m surprised it doesn’t make more people ill, instead of helping.
            You are high on life!

          • Epona

Yeah, sure. 😉 Though, I did have fun with some of the trolls earlier. You would have been a great addition.

          • I saw some of your fun.
I did miss some fun times on the threads, but, to be honest, I think I had a bit more fun at the festival than I would have had on those threads .

          • Carol G.B.

It sounds like it was good for you to take a little break,”Romney”- san, with all that’s going on. The Japanese festival sounds like a lot of fun. I attended a nice one a few years ago with family & friends. -Hope you continue to receive encouraging health updates the next week + for your family member.

          • Thank you Carol. I really appreciate your kind words!
The break was indeed very welcome, and fun.
Next weekend my wife has Italian Fest on the itinerary. That should be fun also.
As for my sister, they are still battling the anti-seizure medications. She is out of ICU, but has had an adverse reaction to one of the medications, so they need to get her onto another. Still, she is making tiny steps in forward progress, so that is good.

          • Great to hear she is making progress. I really hope she will make a full recovery.

          • Thank you ER! Your thoughts and hopes are much appreciated. Seems like it is going to be a long recovery. She keeps hitting these speed bumps. But a slow and steady recovery is better than the a lot of the alternatives.

          • AudreyII – JadeHelm Brig. Gen.

Once again, wishing you both well as the recovery trend continues.

          • Thanks so much, it is appreciated!

          • Epona

Well, of course! Real life, huh? 😉

          • Ok, it is all a dream. Someday we wake up and we discover what we thought was “real” life was actually a giant computer simulation…
            😀

          • Epona

            The Matrix …

How are you today my friend?

          • I’m doing good. I have to mow the other lawn now, and then I promised my son I’d try and fix his computer. So unfortunately, I can’t hang out right now. 🙁 I was just resting between lawns, and checking in. I’ll be back in the evening. Hope you are feeling better today.

          • Tommie

Well, aren’t you just a jack of all trades! Haha!

          • Hey Tommie! Lawn mowing is just a sideline. Mainly because it is one of the few forms of exercise I get, and I am not willing to pay a service to do it. Hope you have been well!

          • Tommie

So you hate small businesses, huh? Hahahaha!

          • Lol! Touché!
I guess I hate my flab more than I like supporting lawn care businesses.

          • Tommie

Understandable, I gave up beer and brownies and went on a serious diet, to lose the weight before i get to old and can’t get it off! My roommate’s husband is heavy set and his back gave out on him and I woke up to him screaming in pain and he is 65! After watching what happen to him that opened my eye’s and I decided to do something about it!

          • Yeah, I have dieted on and off in my middle age. I’m still in the “normal” range of BMI but just barely. I need to work a bit harder at keeping the weight off. I seem to yo-yo a bit now, diet to lose 20 pounds, then regain it over a few years.
But mostly, if I didn’t do things like mow the lawn, I would get no exercise at all. I sit in front of a computer all day, usually, and I have never been one to “work out “.
I limit myself to one beer a day, and maybe one brownie a week (not enhanced by any other substances-lol).

          • Sorry, never made it back to the internet last night.
Ended up having dinner with our son, and a nice visit.
Just peeking in for a bit while I do some paperwork. Yuk!

          • Epona

            Hey Mitt,
I’m being really productive, as you can see … but it is just such a great news day! I can’t help myself. 😉

          • LOL! I know the feeling. But I have to try and drag myself away. I have to get some stuff done today.

          • Epona

Mitt! Are you done with work? I’ve done nothing productive today. I keep telling myself I will make up for it tomorrow.

          • No, I’m avoiding starting another task. Wish I was done.
I need to stop checking in here between stuff. I get sucked in and then never get done.
Procrastination is the sign of a very high intellect I have read. I’ll find the supporting documentation tomorrow and link it for you.

          • Epona

Yeah, so is bad handwriting. I must be brilliant!

          • I have it on good authority that you are.

          • Epona

So true blue you are. Even though I know you’re lying. 😉

          • I never tell a lie. I was a boy scout.

            Not a very good one.
            But I was one.

          • Epona

Really?! I would love to see those pictures. I was a Brownie, never made it to the Girl Scouts. No horses, so …

          • I’d have to look to see if there actually are any pictures. I don’t recall any. But there must be at least one. I was only a boy scout for about one year, and after the first camping trip, I decided it really wasn’t for me. I did work my way up through Cub Scouts and Webelos (a very unfortunate name choice for a group involving pre-adolescent boys) .
I bet you were cute in that brownie outfit!

          • Epona

I had to look that one up. Webelos is an acronym meaning “We’ll Be Loyal Scouts”. According to the Bear Cub Scout Book of 1954, the name originally came from the initial letters of “wolf, bear, lion, Scout”, the rank of “Lion Cub Scout” was dropped in 1967.

          • Yeah, I remember the wolf and bear stuff. Didn’t recall the lion, I would have been in Webelos after 67 by a few years.

          • Epona
          • Awwwww!!!! That is cute!
Looks like they are all waiting for the other guy to “test the water” in the yard.

          • Epona

Sorry for sending the “cute” animal pic, I just couldn’t help myself. The cats are indoor only, but I let them out with me on the deck sometimes. The horses just walked away, that’s what they were looking at; otherwise, I would have had all five in the picture.

          • No need to be sorry! It is a very nice picture. I’m surprised that all get along so well. That is a testament to the human they adopted, I think.

          • Epona

I wish all five had held still for the photo.

          • I’m off to eat dinner finally!

            I should be back later.

          • Epona

You are such a European, late dinners. Just like me.

          • 😀
We don’t normally eat quite this late. But it happens at least once a week. Sometimes more often. Most nights we eat around 7:30 to 8:00 .
I guess that is late by American standards, come to think of it.

          • Epona

It is. My Spanish friends are on a much later schedule for lunch and dinner than is traditional here. I never realized how “sympatico” we were until they pointed it out.

          • We eat lunch around 1:00 usually. But it often is later than that.
Europeans know how and when to eat. Especially those from Latin countries.

          • Epona

Mediterranean food, all so good, and lunch is the largest meal of the day. The Tuscan diet is one of the healthiest.

          • Lots of pasta and fresh seafood, along with plenty of vegetables.
Most of the dishes are fairly simple, ingredients-wise. It is just that the freshness, and the combinations are just so delicious!!
I’m getting hungry again just thinking about it! Lol!

          • Epona

Me too, altough my Northern Italian family seemed to make a lot of Southern Italian staples as well. Spicier and heavier, but equally good.

          • We had mostly Tuscan dishes. Although there were some favorites from other parts of the country thrown in. There really is only one Italian dish I couldn’t eat. It is a vegetable casserole made with “cardoni”. It is a vegetable that looks like celery, but had the flavor of bitter artichoke multiplied by about 10,000. Lol!

          • Epona

Never had it, but I do love artichokes, regular ones.

          • I like artichokes also, but not that stuff.
Of course, I have not tasted it in decades, so I may actually like it now.

          • Epona

            Tastes do “mature.”

          • Unlike some people’s personalities.
I have noticed it mostly in people whose names rhyme with “scary”.

          • Epona

            Is he harrassing you now?

          • He is such a dope, that he doesn’t realize yet that he stalked my comment history to reply to a comment of mine directed at MA which only mentions the name “Gary” and not his current incarnation. It is just amazing how dim-witted he is. He gave away the fact that he does indeed identify as “Gary” with that behavior.
I’m laughing so hard now, it is difficult for me to type.
            Unbelievable.

          • Epona

I think I need to go to bed. I started too early today. You have a good night Mitt, and get some rest.

          • Goodnight Epona!
I’m heading off to snooze soon myself.

          • Epona

Hey MR, how is “Mittens” today?

          • Mittens is fine today. Although a bit mad at himself for being so far behind in his work. I should be trying to get something done for tomorrow, instead of playing here. But I am having trouble getting motivated.

          • Epona

I understand. I’m trying to edit a paper for publication, so dry, not easy reading. I keep getting distracted. Has Mittens checked his mail in a while?

          • Yes, In fact I checked it just now!

          • Epona

Jeeze, I didn’t mean to make you feel bad. 🙁 All is good, well except for my general laziness.

          • I often forget to check that account for several days. So I actually appreciated the reminder. It had been a few days.

I’m feeling pretty lazy about now myself.

          • Epona

No, you’re wonderful! The best! 😉

          • Great, now I’m trapped here because my head won’t fit through the door anymore.
            Thanks Epona!
            😉

          • Epona

It’s all true, every bit of it!

          • You’re trying to make my head explode aren’t you?
            Well it won’t work!
I drilled a hole in it to let all the air out.
            .
            Wait….

          • Epona

Trephination? You know that was a real thing at one time?

          • Yeah, I didn’t know the name for it. But I saw an article with a picture of a skull that had multiple holes drilled in it, and some sort of headline about ancient headache relief.

Did not read the article, but it sort of inspired that last comment.

          • Epona

Thought it would release the evil spirits, but I think they used it in later centuries to relieve pressure on the brain?? Another brilliant treatment for mental illness, right up there with Trans-orbital lobotomy.

          • I’m thinking there are quite a few posters on these threads we could try these remedies on, just to see if the ancients had any good idea regarding how to cure mental illness.

            Couldn’t hurt, could it?

          • Tea 😄 Potty 💩 Mouth ☠

            Trephination is the old word…
            It’s now called
            CON-version.

          • Ahh, So they have already been experimented upon, and we are dealing with the results?

We need to find those scientist conducting the experiments and stop them RIGHT NOW!!

            😉

          • Tea 😄 Potty 💩 Mouth ☠

I suspect Carson because of the Pyramid connection & brain surgery.

          • That seems like a very viable theory there.
He has the secret plans written on the insides of his eyelids. You can see how often he consults them.

          • Tea 😄 Potty 💩 Mouth ☠

            What happened to MD ?

          • MD retired.
But there is a very similar poster around.
If you pay close attention, I think you’ll figure it out.

          • Mister Atoz

He turned into a Star Trek character.

          • Epona

And it wouldn’t be the least bit painful … at all.

          • Of course not! They need something in there to be able to register pain.

          • Mister Atoz

It was the first form of brain surgery and was performed in very ancient times.

          • Epona

Smarty. Mitt’s going to perform it on himself. May explain a few things …

          • Mister Atoz

Just to let you know, I’ll be signing off at 2:00AM. PBS is showing a documentary about Jimmy Carter. I saw the one about Richard Nixon and it was really good so I want to see this one.

          • Epona

Cool. The “Race for the White House” series was very good they had on CNN a few months back.

          • Mister Atoz

I didn’t catch that. I tend to miss a lot of things like that. I’m pretty set in my ways as far as TV watching goes and I very often forget to check the TV listings.

          • How was I supposed to be able to leave my office with the inflated head you gave me, without doing something to reduce the swelling?
            .
            .
            .
Did that sound dirty to you too?
            😀

          • Epona

No Mitt, of course not! You … ever imply anything … remotely dirty??

          • I would NEVER!!!!
            Perish the thought!
I’m a bastion of decorum. A regular pillar of my community. A rod of piety that strands proud as a beacon to all !

          • Epona

I’m laughing at that last sentence. Maybe I’m the one with the problem.

          • Mission accomplished!!

          • Epona

Actually, it may have been the whole post. Many tall vertical symbolic type words.

          • Mister Atoz

No one wants to hear about your rod, standing or not. 😉

          • My rod? I said “a rod”, wasn’t he a baseball player?

*listens for the groans over the bad joke*

          • Mister Atoz

LOL. My bad. I’m sure you would have said “flagpole…”

█▇▇ didn’t visit me yesterday. I’m feeling a bit neglected.

          • Epona

            Hey MA,
Is Mediaite down, or is it just me?

          • Mister Atoz

I haven’t had any problems. If I load the main page I will, though. It really does a number on my PC and/or my browser.

          • Epona

Mine seems okay now. I’m on my phone.

          • Mister Atoz

It must have been a temporary glitch.

          • Epona

            You ok?

          • Mister Atoz

I don’t know at this point.

          • Epona

You are wonderful! The absolute best! 🙂

          • Epona

            You have mail.

          • Mister Atoz

            Thanks. I’ll take a look.

          • Epona

Did you enjoy your PBS show the other night?

          • Mister Atoz

LOL, no. I thought it was going to be a repeat about Jimmy Carter. It ended up being about Reagan. I fell asleep.

          • Epona

            Are we having fun yet?

          • Mister Atoz

            Hard to tell, lol.

          • Epona

Glenn Beck was just on CNN with Don Lemon. I found myself in agreement with him, mostly. The world is truly upside down.

          • Lol! He was probably busy getting mocked by someone else.

          • Epona

Some little boy stayed up waaay past his bedtime last night. 😉

          • Yeah, I need to be punished. 😉

          • Epona

I think maybe you endured enough punishment last night. 😉 I read your posts. Your patience (and logic), in the face of crazy, was remarkable.

          • Thank you! I was getting pretty groggy by the end there. Lol!
How have you been today? I should probably try and get to bed at a reasonable hour tonight.

          • Mister Atoz

Actually, what I should have said is that it was the first form of surgery of any kind. I remember that because I was thinking when I learned that…

“Wow. The Ancients decided to invent surgery in a very bigly way.”

          • Epona

I’m glad you had a nice dinner. Did you fix the computer?

          • Yes, It turned out to be a memory card that needed to be seated properly, and a hard drive that was almost full.
Did a little tuning up on what he had running automatically also, to speed up the startup. He seemed pretty happy with the results.

          • Epona

            I guess so. 🙂

          • I’m off to sleep. Good night!

          • ANNG14

A hot toddy does the trick for me. I keep a bottle of whiskey around for that purpose only. A wide variation on hot toddies.
I like the ones with honey, lemon juice, lemonade, tea or apple juice and whiskey of course.

          • Well, most cough syrups do have alcohol in them, so the active ingredient in your remedy is not much different than that in the “medicine” .
I have never had a hot Toddy. Will have to try one some time now.

          • ANNG14

          • Epona

Aww, thank you for that. That was actually my mother’s suggestion … and gargling with salt water. It’s actually much better today. 🙂

          • ANNG14

Gargling with salt water is very effective for a sore throat and rinsing your mouth with salt water is great for gum problems.
The old ways are often the best ways and (least expensive)
Glad to hear you are feeling better.

It is not often we encounter an entirely worthless human being. But ladies and gentleman… BEHOLD! Marco Rubio. Worthless.

“If I am going to err, I’ll err on the side of life.”
However he takes a walk and the parents end up with a child they didn’t want. A child who never ever grows up. Easy for Rubio to say, he is not the one having an absolute life long dependent.

I would not want to be in the shoes of a pregnant worman who has the Zika virus. I would neither applaud those who choose to carry to term nor condemn those who have an abortion. These are private concerns, not public concerns.

How fucking dare you say you believe the government should impose restrictions on the hardest and most private personal decision a woman can make while at the same time claiming the government is being too invasive to require that a baker must sell their product to all members of the public. Bite my ass you little twit.

    • Robert Conner

      How dare he? Because Jesus.

I wish that the CDC would do a study of the GOP. Republicans must have been infected decades ago with the Zika virus.

  • justmeeeee

Yes, Marco, you are in error. When in error, and you know it, you should correct your position. Ya moron!

  • Robert Conner

In his defense I’d point out that Little Marco’s a pinhead himself.

  • David

I don’t understand why “conservatism” has to go against common sense health care. For anyone interested, there is another example of this over at Politico, there’s an article on how Mike Pence’s “conservatism” has derailed and continues to derail clean needle exchange. It’s outrageous that some of these men have final say in anything, they are completely stuck in the 1950’s.

  • Robert Conner

Order your Marco Rubio tee shirts now before they run out!

  • Jack

Did someone ask him? Even if they did, it’s none of his business and it’s out of his hands. Every pregnant woman has the right to an abortion.

    • Every parent has the right to an abortion. At least until they’re 18. You’ll save a lot of money if you don’t wait too long though. If you cant afford an abortion one can just smother them in the crib. Or slip some aresenic in their bottle

      • grada3784

Or we could bring back the draft and lower the draft age to 6.

      • Jack

        Citation needed.

  • zeroagent

Someone should ask him if he would feel the same if his wife got pregnant, and then found out that she was carrying a Zika fetus and keep it, knowing all the health burdens that are going to be imposed on it?

And then a followup: Would they name her Zika?

    • Friday

He’s a Republican Christian Rightie, the rules are to be imposed on *everyone else.* Not they themselves.

  • worstcultever

(I don’t usually re-post my comments from other sites, but in this case I’ll make an exception)

Hey Rubio – abortion is LEGAL. Sorry it gives you a sadz, but women are having and will continue to have abortions for ANY reason they damn well choose, so fuck you and your sanctimonious bullshit.

I think people are finally getting really sick of this fucking nonsense. I’m actually glad this putz said this about Zika – it truly unmasks the “pro-life” position for what it is – pro-misery, pro-suffering, and pure sadism for sadism’s sake.

Btw Mike Pence is a bigtime forced-birther – and since Trump said Pence would pretty much be running the country – that’s another Trump footbullet. The multitudes of non-Stepford women of this country care a LOT about keeping the creeper church fathers and cynical politicians out of their crotches.

    • Thank you! The only good child is a dead child. They cry. They mess their diapers. They’re annoying and cost money. If we were civilized we’d allow parents to terminate their toddlers until the age of 18.

      • Friday

Yeah, I wouldn’t have expected you to say anything to do with the reality of real people, never mind the vegetables the forced-birther wants to force victims of an illness the Republicans blocked funding to deal with in the name of wanting more forced-birtherism imposed on women’s health clinics….

        • There are difficult cases in which abortion is the optimal choice: cases such as severe birth defects being one of them.
Even then, it may be labeled as an unfortunate necessity.

That’s not the attitude of some of you NARAL supporters: so long as the thing has an umbilical cord attached, it can be terminated regardless of the reason. That reason is frequently little more than “Because I can”.

Never mind that sex is almost always something one chooses to do.

Just a very nonchalant attitude about it all.

          • Friday

Eh, bullshit and you know that what you accuse isn’t even on the *table* in the law. You trying to claim you know better than the women directly involved can so you can oppress and control people over sex and their reproductive lives *doesn’t* mean you have some right to ban abortion or …. lie about people for that matter.

          • I’m not talking about this law. I’m talking about the general attitude that abortion is a great thing up to the point of a nine month delivery, regardless of the reason. Go read through the comments again.

And this has nothing to do about “control”. Having sex is a choice. We’re not apes after all. Unless you’re an imbecile you know that one of the results of sex is a child. Asking people to take some responsibility for their own choices isnt “oppression “.

If your pregnancy is accidental despite taking precautions, have the common decency to have it sucked out before it grows a head and develops nerve endings.

This isn’t asking a lot imo.

          • Friday

Actually you’re the only one claiming that people are all anxious to have nine-month pregnancies then abortions just for you to what, call them promiscuous? That’s not the reality here, never mind about completely nonviable fetuses in the first place.

It’s actually the ‘pro-lifers’ who take measures to extend unwanted pregnancies hoping they can delay women long enough that it then becomes past when it’s legal there, so you can then of course try to ban all abortion and contraception cause, yes, you only care about having a punitive attitude toward *sex* even if it means putting some kid through a lifetime of little to no brain function.

And after 18, there’s perpetual war to kill them off.

  • ColdCountry

  • Richard B

Abortion is legal and if a fetus has a profoundly deformed brain from ZIKA, Rubio thinks a grifter’s morality from invisible sky deities supersedes a women’s constitutional right to choose –
Rubio is a creepy superstitious pandering idiot .
PLEASE FLORIDA, YOU HAVE CHOICES AND CAN DO BETTER….

Life is precious. Although some of us would make a decision to have the baby, no matter what, it’s a very sad and difficult situation for these mothers to be in and wrong he’s making a statement for political points. There but for the grace of God…
