Trump Claims NFL Sent Him Letter Complaining About Debate Schedule, NFL Says They Did No Such Thing

Another day, another ridiculous lie from Donald Trump. CNN reports:

Donald Trump says the fall debate schedule is “unacceptable,” raising the specter that he may try to skip them. In a tweet on Friday night, Trump incorrectly said that Hillary Clinton and the Democrats are “trying to rig the debates.”

In fact, the fall debate schedule was determined almost a year ago by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates, a private group made up of both Republicans and Democrats. RNC chief strategist Sean Spicer invoked criticism of the commission on CNN Saturday morning, saying “The entire system needs to be relooked at.”

Trump said in an interview for ABC’s “This Week,” “I’ll tell you what I don’t like. It’s against two NFL games. I got a letter from the NFL saying, “This is ridiculous.'”

An NFL spokesman responded Saturday: “While we’d obviously wish the debate commission could find another night we did not send a letter to Trump.” Sporting events, religious holidays, and other factors cause scheduling headaches every four years.

me too, and I don’t understand why, amongst so many other trivial bs things, that *that* has not been a “trending” thing… cuz it was weird and gross, and well… demonstrative.

          • Falconlights

That AND the child rape case. Donald Trump is one very sick man.

          • CatApostrophe

I have no idea why the child rape case is not

            a) Front page news every damn day
            b) Enough to disqualify trump as a candidate

FFS, we were ready to oust a sitting president in the 90’s for getting an extramarital beej from an adult woman – which isn’t even illegal. Trump rapes a child and we* ignore it. But yeah, he should definitely be president. He speaks his mind and this country certainly has a shortage of that…

*That’s a really broad “we.” Obviously, some of us are pretty upset about it.

He’ll have to do better than that. Hillary Clinton is 68 years old—she got through menopause a while ago.

        • Mawm

Trump has no idea what menopause is. He never stays with a woman long enough.

      • lymis

I’d pay to see Hillary’s takedown if he tried that line on her during a debate.

    • Cuberly

Policy. He’ll have to get detailed, and he’ll look a fool standing across from someone that talks about their actual policy platform.

Dahnald doesn’t sweat the details he locks horns via “personality”, such as it is, to bulldoze his way. The Trump brand is supposed to beat people into submission using every lower level impulse you can list. It’s not reality.

      Trump is garbage.

      • RoFaWh

Well-rotted, semifluid garbage that smells really really bad and has a huge cloud of flies buzzing around it.

  • Nic Peterson

His base won’t watch the debates anyway, so it shouldn’t matter to him. I wonder if they will give him a podium or a playpen and a binky on debate nights.

  • Sk3ptic

Traitor Trump will chew his own arm off or fake a stroke to avoid debating Hillary.

  • moebym

Despite his outrageous lies, extreme insensitivity to other peoples’ sacrifices and experiences, prideful ignorance of facts, volatile personality, and provocations of violence, many Americans will still proudly vote for this man.

    Human psychology is truly strange.

    • There’s always a certain percentage of any group who want a strong man to tell them what to do. From an evolutionary/animal behavior standpoint, there are no democratic primate societies, with the possible exception of bonobos (except, of course, those species that travel in small family groups). In every example I can think of, there’s an alpha male who keeps everyone in line, even in those groups where the real power lies with the females.

So of course, there are people who don’t care about Trump’s lies, ego, bigotry or anything else, because he’s a strong leader — he told them so himself.

      • canoebum

Well, who wouldn’t prefer the bonobos method of solving society’s problems?

        • clay

          I ain’t having pity/appeasement sex with Trump!

      • Christopher

      • Cuberly

Interesting that elephant groups are led by a hierarchy group of matron elephants that are charged with teaching the younger ones in their charge pretty much everything. Male elephants tend to break away after so many years and roam alone. Though if I’m not mistaken there are some male elephants of lower status that sometimes linger with the herds led by the matrons.

    • Harley

It’s more about their misguided hatred of anything democratic or progressive. They would vote for Satan if Jesus H. Christ ran as a democrat.

    • Thorn Spike

      That’s not psychology, it’s pathology.

      • Mawm

        The two aren’t mutually exclusive.

    • Treant

I was just reading an article on Daily Kos about the evangelicals voting for Trump; most are doing it because they’re sure that Hillary will require 36th week abortions for all Americans or the typical garbage.

So that’s 18% of the American voters, approximately.

      • Bruno

And to them, the “there has to be punishment for the woman” comment was not only just fine, but it showed them he really is anti-abortion.

        • clay

and that ties into their reason for opposing abortion, and NOT supporting adoption (Hillary already brought adoption supporters somewhat onto the Choice side). . . there MUST be punishment (for the woman)!

      • Robincho

And it’s the same 18% of impenetrable cement-heads that has held amazingly constant throughout, since the daze of John Birch…

    • Because they are assholes too. He’s their hero.

    • bkmn

I think a lot of them have been lied to for so long by the GOP, FuxSnooz, Rush and the rest of the right wing media that they are desperate and somehow think Trump will help them somehow. They don’t understand that governing takes time and effort and think somehow Trump will snap his little fingers and their lives will be better. Desperation can make people do strange things.

      • olandp

I remember seeing a “story” on the news about a black woman who thought Obama would make her mortgage and car payments for her, just support her in general, along with everyone else. I can’t imagine it was real, but then I can’t imagine anyone would think Trump University would give them the key to getting rich with no real effort.

    • delk

      NBA games as well.

I wonder if MLB wrote him too? And the NFL plays Sunday, Sunday Night, Monday Night and Thursday Night. College Football is on Saturday and Saturday night. High School Football is Friday Nights. That only leaves Tuesday and Wednesday which you know be featuring MLB. There is no good night in the Fall. TV series will be doing season premiers, etc. Trump is just a big whining cry baby, or as we call whiners in the South, a Titty Baby.

Now he will accuse the NFL of being dishonest, crooked, and in the pocket of Hillary and the Dems. He won’t back down. Ever. It’s like one day in the 80s he listened to that Tom Petty song and took it way too fucking serious.

The orange menace just has to say something once and it’s chanted over and over by his minions. I heard some guy calling into CSPAN this morning and the fist thing that came out of his mouth was Hillary’s a loooossser.

        • Cuberly

I was too young to grasp the Reagan worship when he ran & won. This whole Trump thing scares the shit out of me that people are so willing to latch onto a plutocrat. I always thought that was more a Russian impulse than anything.

And at the same time, there’s a whole class of disaffected middle to lower class whites that have been ignored for decades. Livelihoods have bled out of their communities over a long long time. And as much as I like Obama, when he said his infamous distressed people “will cling to their god and guns” line. I understand it, but for people fitting that description, it was insulting.

During the Dem convention the Dems ever so lightly touched on that demographic but still, we’re ignoring bad policy decisions that ultimately created the tea-baggers.

Trump appeals to a degree of passion, and it hurts my brain to go there but if it wasn’t real why does Trump have so many staunch followers.

If anything I think the Dem convention did come the closest to bridging that gap in demographics in an inclusive way. But still. Making a dent in the right-wing-nutjob-welfare-indsustry is a Herculean task. And Trump’s followers are fed fierce distrust 24/7. Fear.

I’m so hoping that on election day America goes sane vs the Brexit route (Trump) I honestly think that’s what will happen but I’m still scared. The divisions are so frightening.

          • fuzzybits

You youngin!I don’t think we should take anything for granted because if we get too cocky and complacent that’s when trouble happens. I lived in Oakland CA the first time Reagan was elected. Went to my polling location and decided to go over to San Francisco that night to just roam and take it all in. Almost everywhere I went or stopped in was like a pall had overcome most of the folks I encountered. The air was heavy.

          • Cuberly

Oh lordy, I’m much to married to politics to take ANYTHING for granted. I just think most saner people will do the right thing if given a chance. Which entails engagement. In other words, work. Lots and lots of work. And listening, never forget to listen.

          • sfbob

There are similarities. But Reagan was the model of probity compared with Trump. Yes he was vile but he was also charming because he was a good enough actor to pull off the “nice-guy” act. And he knew enough about his shortcomings to have handlers write his scripts for him.

Actually Trump’s approach to Hillary is quite similar to Reagan’s approach to Ford. There’s one little problem for Trump though: nobody believes she “weak” or “a loser.” And apart from his fan club nobody can stand Trump.

          • cleos_mom

Reagan’s charm, and the willingness of the electorate to vote for him on that basis, made him especially vile.

          • petewestcentral

Per your comment, the divisions have been in the works for a long time. Anything Obama might say of the Joe the Plumber – Sarah Palin – Donald Trump followers will be taken as an insult, period. The media hate-meisters will see to it.

      /Discworld reference

  • douglas

He is just setting the stage to back out of the debates completely. He, and the rest of the GOP, know that Hillary will wipe the floor with him. There will be no debates. Mark my word.

    • olandp

I’ve been saying that for months too.

  • Christ: what an asshole.

    • Joe in PA

That comment comes in handy. 🙂

      Good job!

  • Tim

He is ALREADY trying to get out of the debates.

  • dcurlee

Why didn’t George ask him to produce the letter.

    • Jude Newton

“Oh I have the letter. Its at my office. I don’t have it with me. I have it in the office. Under some papers. In my office. I don’t have it with me. Why would I carry it with me? I get many many letters. Hundreds of letters. I don’t carry those letters.. I have …. “

      • dcurlee

Yep can hear that from the douche. I was thinking his comment would be I couldn’t be bother I just had a servant shred it

      • But I can tell you, all those letters are Yuuuuge!!

      • “I have in my coat pocket a list of 57 known Red Communists in the State Department.”

We’ve heard this song and seen this dance before. Everything old is new again.

      • Mawm

We are going to look into that

    • Joe in PA

“we’ll look in to it” 🙁

  • Jude Newton

This is how stupid Trump is: The Debate Commission released the presidential debate schedules on September 23, 2015 – the NFL released their schedule just a few weeks ago. Why didn’t Trump complain about the dates last fall? After he knew he won the primaries?

    What a moron.

    • AJ Drew

      Umm… because he’s T? Complain, argue, lie, deny. The T m.o.

  • JT

When is a journalist going to do the job of journalism and ask him to give a real answer instead of bullshit?

    • dcurlee

      Amen…and not back down

    • safari

I don’t think he knows how to give out a real answer.

      • JT

I’m sure he doesn’t. That’s why he evades and waffles.

    • AJ Drew

Yup, I too am waiting, waiting, waiting…. and wtf Rachel?

      • TuuxKabin

        And that’s a long, long time . . . from now.

    • clay

They try, and he just says, “Be quiet”, or, at rallies, “Get ’em out of here!”

    • cleos_mom

It will happen as soon as someone can find a journalist.

And not just a humanoid unit who provides some comic contrast; e.g., Mark Shields at the Democratic convention last week.

  • Treant

While there’s some precedent (neither Johnson nor Nixon debated), in the modern, media-saturated world, that’s going to play out very poorly.

Since the networks want the exposure, they’ll offer both Town Hall kinds of meetings. It’ll play much better for Don the Con, but Hillary may be smart and refuse those (denying Don the equal time).

    • Bruno

In this media age, not debating is going to look very strange. In Johnson and Nixon’s day, not everyone had a TV.

      • Treant

Even back then, it wasn’t received well.

As it turns out, Nixon had great reason to skip the debates. Johnson, not so much.

    • Homo Erectus

Nixon got his ass handed to him when he debated Kennedy. I can imagine the same fate for the orange one.

    • thatotherjean

Not quite so. Nixon and Kennedy held the first televised debate in 1960. Apparently, if you were only listening, Nixon came out ahead. If you were watching, Nixon’s sweating, twitching, and five-o’-clock shadow were such a distraction that he was seen as losing, badly. Nixon learned from that debate, and refused to debate when he ran for President.

  • abqdan

Here’s a major problem with someone like Trump. Maybe different dates would be better for both candidates – maybe scheduling against a major sporting event IS an issue. (I don’t watch sport, so it isn’t for me…) But the way to deal with something like that is NOT to come out swinging against your opponents. The way to resolve it is to have your people talk to the other campaign, and see if quietly you can agree a different date that works better.

I fully accept that the date isn’t the problem anyway, but this just illustrates how bad Trump would be at ANY kind of negotiation. You win nothing yelling and screaming all the time instead of seeking compromise.

    • Lazycrockett

This is what Bernie and Hillary did.

  • AtticusP

If I were voting for a Liar-in-Chief, Donald Trump would be my choice.

    I’m not.

    • safari

He’s also the Implier in Chief. He will imply many things but never come right out and state them. It’s why he can weasel his way out of things he’s implied.

      • AJ Drew

Though I love “Implier in Chief,” dT has outright, verbally, on record, said so many outrageous things and then denied those statements… oh f-it, let us just vote him away. Yes?

      • Joe in PA

        #PlausibleDeniability.

  • CB

    Three letters: D V R.
    Game or debate.
    Shut up, liar.

    • TuuxKabin

Need to ask: what is D V R? I Googled it, but only come up with digital video recording, Wikipedia, pretty much the same. Thank you.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

That’s it. Digital video recorder. It’s for recording a show so you don’t miss it and can watch it later. Nowadays, people probably use Tivo or HBO On Demand or other options more.

Not to mention both the games and the debates will most certainly be recorded and available for viewing on dozens of sites on the internet later. So it’s a total non-issue.

        • TuuxKabin

Used to do that a long time ago. Good to know they’re still a thing. Like Bette Midler said: “I don’t get out much. I don’t have to. I’m an arteest”. Thank you for bringing us up to date.

      • EqualityForAll

Your Googling is working fine. DVR is a Digital Video Recorder. CB’s implication is that there should be no conflict as to what to watch: the debate or the game. They can both be recorded so that people don’t miss watching either one of them.

        • TuuxKabin

Thank you. Two of us were wondering. That clears it up. I’m a bit surprised they’re still a thing. I thought technology left the DVR behind. We don’t get out much.

          • Lazycrockett

Plus the DVR doesn’t need a tape or disc to record it records to the harddive that’s in the dvr/tv receiver.

          • TuuxKabin

            Thanks for that too.

I’m learning more here than I’ll ever practice. We don’t even have a telly. But I sure appreciate all the ‘splainin’ from everyone. xo

          • EqualityForAll

And here I thought that the DVR was still very much “a thing.” What newer technology are people using to record TV shows and movies from their cable providers?

          • TuuxKabin

Don’t have an answer since we have neither cable or a telly.

        • Traxley Launderette

For everything else, there’s YouTube, Google, and hundreds of newsfeeds.

It’s not like you have to take the phone off the hook and run to take a piss during commercial breaks. No, we live in a time of magic.

      • djcoastermark

I’m ahead of you on this one. I figured out how to watch live and record another channel on my V C R

        • TuuxKabin

    Another day, Another Trump Lie

    • TuuxKabin

IIRC maybe second lie of the afternoon. He’s probably settling down in his lair pondering the next one to send out at 3AM.

      • GayOldLady

And I wonder….do straight men wonder WHY, with a gorgeous woman in his bed like Melania, Trump is up tweeting all night?

That sleeping arrangement would probably make an interesting story.

        • Joe in PA

Let’s just leave that at “ewwwww”. 🙁

          • GayOldLady

You know, I’m not into thinking about straight sex, but really he’s spending his night tweeting? Most straight men wouldn’t be tweeting if Melania was in their bed.

          • Mawm

Hetero Intercourse lasts 3 minutes on average and that doesn’t include the men who can’t get it up. He has time to tweet too. Somehow I don’t think he’s interested in long conversations with Melania.

          • bzrd

Short words, short sentences, short conversations, nuf said.

          • Mawm

But his short words are the best short words.

          • bzrd

            terrific short words

          • GayOldLady

I was hetero married once, about 50 years ago, I remember!

          • Mawm

            Sorry

          • GayOldLady

            Me too!

          • GayOldLady

50+ years ago a lot of LG people got married out of self defense. I married very young, knowing I was a lesbian, but fearing the consequences which were severe, included being committed by your family if you were younger than 21 and going to jail if you were caught with someone of the same gender. I didn’t stay married long, but I did have children. I don’t regret that.

          • TuuxKabin

And the children must not regret it either. Nor the grand ones.

          • Joe in PA

            Or the GREAT grand ones!

        • TuuxKabin

Because she has other ‘straight’ men in her bed, in another wing of their apartment? Arrangements, it’s all arrangements. They don’t even hold hands when appearing together.

          • GayOldLady

I’ve noticed that too. I’m sure it really bothers her the way he touches Ivanka. If he touched my daughter the way he touches Ivanka, I’d break both of his damn arms.

          • TuuxKabin

If your daughter didn’t break ’em first. Which leaves two legs, or a knee drive into his crouch.

        • olandp

I’m sure they have different bedrooms, as I recall Melania had an apartment in Trump Tower when they were ‘dating’, perhaps she still does. I know I would if I were her.

  • Sam_Handwich

While we’d obviously wish the debate commission could find another night

Why don’t YOU find another fucking date for your moronic games?

    • As Josh Marshall pointed out, this is all part of Trump’s compulsive ‘dominance games.’ He refuses to do anything unless it’s perceived to be on HIS terms, with concessions won by him.

Josh also believes, as I do, that Trump is trying to get out of having any debates at all, but will find some stupid pretext like the schedule, or the traditional 15%-polling threshold exclusion of Johnson and Stein.

      • Sam_Handwich

no, i’m going after the NFL for appearing to give Trump shade. as if a fucking football game is more important than our presidential election

        • Of course you’re not. And they’re not either. The NFL has flatly denied sending the letter Trump claims he has.

      • andrew

IMO Johnson and Stein are doing their nation a great disservice by allowing people to waste their vote on them, when they know that they have no chance of winning, but the dangerous Trump does, with their help.

  • Lazycrockett

You know what’ Hillary should just come out and say that she is willing to debate Drumpf whenever he wants. Just flat out say “we will let Drumpf pick the time and the day and we will be there.” That should call his bluff.

    • Joe in PA

His response will be “ I will only debate Crooked Hillary if she doesn’t get to speak”. 🙁

      • AJ Drew

“when the next gazillion tax payer dollars are spent on investigating her (whatever).”

      and making chicken noises

Drumpf actually believes the NFL is just some guy on the street that can’t be fact checked.

But the real issue is that this still won’t deter any of his fascist followers. His poll numbers are precisely where they were before he was caught in this latest lie.

    • Ninja0980

      • Lazycrockett

Actually one of the few things I general dislike about Hillary is she has been a life long sunday church goer. During the second term of Bill’s term she went even more hardcore. So unfortunately her faith seems real and deep.

meh, though I agree with your sentiment overall, she found a way to stay with Bill, and well… politically, now, it’s a good thing. Any photos of the DTs clan at church? Hmmm… image search that and, oh, it’s the DT himself in the pulpit. Interesting, eh?

    http://www.sfgate.com/news/us-world/article/Iceland-man-says-Donald-Trump-s-son-left-white-8621843.php

Iceland media reports are linking Donald Trump’s son Eric to a weekend full of debauchery in the country in 2014.

Iceland man says Donald Trump’s son left ‘white powder’ at rental, paid 15 women to hang out.

EDIT: 15 thousand Icelandic krónur (around USD 120) for each.

        The near future??

American “journalists”: “Democrats are lamenting what they call the ‘coronation of the new tsar,’ claiming the new President’s inauguration showed all the signs of his desire to be an autocratic strongman with no regard for the Constitution. Republicans say the people have spoken, and the new Law and Order judges who will soon be appointed will allow the new President to ‘deal once and for all with the country’s undesirables.'”

Where is all this anger coming from? It’s viral, and Trump is Typhoid Mary. Intellectually and emotionally weakened by years of steadily degraded public discourse, we are now two separate ideological countries, LeftLand and RightLand, speaking different languages, the
lines between us down. Not only do our two subcountries reason differently; they draw upon non-intersecting data sets and access entirely different mythological systems. You and I approach a castle. One of us has watched only “Monty Python and the Holy Grail,” the other only “Game of Thrones.” What is the meaning, to the collective “we,” of yon castle? We have no common basis from which to discuss it. You, the other knight, strike me as bafflingly ignorant, a little unmoored.

And the media will LET him get away with NOT debating her, just like they LET him get away with EVERYTHING else!!

He’s making it clear he’d turn Ukraine and the Baltic states (all 3 of which are our NATO allies) over to Putin’s aggression!

He’s encouraging that same foreign power to launch CYBERATTACKS on his OWN country (and the attacks from that source have stepped up since he did) to the horror and outrage of even GOP national security agents, who have worked for past GOP administrations and who say this is a DISQUALIFYING act for ANY candidate for the presidency!

He won’t release his tax returns to PROVE he has nothing to hide in connection with Russia (and perhaps in OTHER matters, as well).

He REFUSES to answer when asked if Russian oligarchs number among his investors.

Media: “Oh, Mr. Trump, sir, how naughty you are! That’s okay, dear Fearless Leader! Don’t worry–we won’t pester you too much on these silly, little matters! THREE of Hillary’s emails were classified AFTER she dealt with them. That VILE woman must ANSWER for her CRIMES!! Who does she think she is??Condoleezza Rice?? Conan Powell?? George W. Bush??”

Like Romney today, saying that Hillary raising her arms above her head meant that she was trying to act like Bill and didn’t look good and she’s an “awful candidate.” It’s like assnuttery is written into their DNA code.

          • TampaDink

I bet that he still keeps revealing photos of Hillary in his binders full of women.

          • Bruno

Ugh. Well I’m sure he’s got Coulter in there. Though so does Bill Maher, probably ;(

          • TampaDink

I seem to recall that she & Bill M. dated off & on for a long time.

          • Bruno

            Makes me shudder.

          • TampaDink

            You shudder, I retch.

          • UrsusArctos

Rmoney was being an ass, but fairly accurate. Unfortunately, as she herself has said, she doesn’t have the natural ability to campaign easily before crowds, unlike Bill or Obama. I have heard her in multiple interviews or small groups and she is BRILLIANT. Put her in front of a crowd and she struggles. That perception is where she falls into the “not honest trap”. By trying to act like a politician who is comfortable with barnstorming and failing to make it convincing, because it doesn’t come easy to her.
As I listened to her acceptance speech I was hoping she would NOT go to creepy/shouty politician made. It’s not her and hurts her.

          • Bruno

Well, I agree there was a point there to be made by Romney. But he made it in such a vile, sexist way that I just can’t with him. Even though he’s *sort of* doing the right thing by not endorsing tRump, he’s sort of not by leaving his country up to chance. And that enters into it, too. In terms of her acceptance speech, some people surely reacted badly to the tone of voice, etc. But I think the design there was to convey strength and fierceness, especially in the section about ISIS/terrorism. Yeah, it’s something we on the left aren’t too crazy about, but she has to make this point to sway some of the people in the center away from Mr. I’ll Bomb The Hell Out Of ISIS But I’m An Isolationist. She’ll never be Bill or Obama, but I think it was an important speech nonetheless, and there’s only so much she can do to make herself sound mellifluous to dainty ears.

          • Herald

I taught Jr. High for a few years, those kids were way more mature than Trump. In fact my 5 year old grandson is more mature than Trump is.

          • TampaDink

I owe an apology to all 12 yr. old bullies.

      • Snarkaholic

He’ll probably agree to debate and then, two hours before the broadcast, disguise his voice, call in a bomb scare, and then say that he’s reeeeeeally disappointed that he had to cancel, but he didn’t want to get blown up.

        • TampaDink

I wonder if he’d also offer up a name with his bomb scare as he has been known to do when calling media outlets in the past. I think his aliases were John Miller & John Barron or something like that.

    • moebym

I think we all know what’d happen if Hillary had done any of this. Even though she wasn’t actually guilty of any crimes, but that never stopped her from being accused of them.

      • billbear1961

For all the reasons anyone who reads my posts has seen me repeat again and again and again, I will NOT recognize that half-mad CRIMINAL as POTUS, nor will I recognize the “authority” of ANY fascists to GUT the Constitution, strip MILLIONS of their rights, DESTROY this republic, and drag this society back a CENTURY to some kind of latter-day Dickensian NIGHTMARE, an Apartheid Amerika HORROR show, just because they may win an election in what is supposed to be a GENUINE democracy!!

Nothing can justify or legitimize the CRIMES they want to commit–NOTHING.

FASCISM can have no legitimate place or authority in a TRUE democracy.

I do not recognize a democracy’s right, for ANY reason, to commit SUICIDE, and I will not CONSENT to it!!

And they may find, in the event they win, that if they push people into a corner until their backs are up against a WALL, that MILLIONS will FIGHT THEM unless they want to lose EVERYTHING!!

There are MANY who will NOT go “gentle into that good night,” but who will “rage, rage against the dying of the light”!!

    • Michael Rush

I would LOVE to see him disqualified for not participating .

      • TampaDink

I don’t want him to be disqualified….I want him to lose, fair & square.

        • Michael Rush

I want everyone to boycott him out of existence , but I never get what I want .

          • TampaDink

I want what you want….and maybe this time, we will both get not just what we wanted….but if we try this time, we might find, we get what we NEED.

          • Michael Rush

            “We’re gonna vent our frustration

            If we don’t we’re gonna blow a fifty-amp fuse”

          • TampaDink

So long as venting turns to voting, it’s all good.

          • Brian Burleson

You’re kinda nice to wake up to. 😉

  • Stubenville

Facts? We don’t need no stinking facts.

Really simple,he’s afraid a woman will mop the floor with him.

    • AJ Drew

A woman with no contract to hold over him? Yup, he’s afraid.

  • T David Walker

He doesn’t know how not to lie.

    • fuzzybits

I had a friend when I was a teenager who was a habitual liar. Our friendship ended.

    • AJ Drew

or… he doesn’t know how to tell the truth (if it doesn’t benefit himself.)

  • houstonray

My God, there is something VERY VERY wrong with this man. Not even REMOTELY qualified for any office. It makes me wonder how he even runs the Trump “empire”. He truly is a scary and dangerous…

    • Hank

Probably, Ivanka runs Trump Enterprises! She seems to be the only “competent” one. /s

      • safari

Trying not to say she’s balls deep in the empire. Oops.

        • fuzzybits

          Nooooo!

      • clay

as if Trump Enterprises were competently run.

Though I agree about the quality of people he surrounds himself with.

    • D. J.

Debates scheduled at NFL game times works in Trumps favour. What an idiot.

      • clay

He’s more concerned about face-time than facts or face-to-face.

    • moebym

A few months ago, I spoke with a good friend of mine about the most dangerous Republican candidate. I argued that Cruz was worse, but she thought it was Trump.

      I agree with her now.

      • safari

Don’t worry. Cruz will be back with a chip on his shoulder. You may still be right.

        • cleos_mom

If the chip calls for his disgruntled supporters to write his name in this November, he might just be useful.

      • RainbowPhoenix

I give Cruz the prize only because we actually saw signs that he wants to commit genocide. Trump is still a close second.

        • agcons

I agree that Cruz is worse – although it’s like choosing between dengue fever and cholera – not just for all the generally accepted reasons but also because Cruz is smarter and more politically savvy than The Donnie.

    • Herald

He has done a decent job of running Trump Inc. into the ground.

  • safari

O/T: Another reason to vote for Clinton.

“If Trump doesn’t win, it’s over,” [Ann Coulter] said. “I’ll be writing cookbooks and mysteries. It’ll probably take some talk radio hosts and a certain TV network [Fox News] a while to figure that out. But it’s over.”

    http://www.washingtonexaminer.com/coulter-if-trump-doesnt-win-its-over/article/2597153

    • Hank

      Dare one HOPE!!!! ????

    • Bruno

Don’t be fooled, those cookbooks will be “How to Poison a Liberal” and other goodies.

    • AJ Drew

oh gawd, “Aborted (saved!) Fetus Casserole” and on and on…

    • moebym

Eh, it’ll be like Ted Nugent’s assurance that he would be dead or in jail if Obama were elected. It’s not going to happen, sadly. There’s just too much money to be made continuing to do what she does now for a living.

      • safari

A boy can dream a pundit lives up to their words, can’t he?

      • Kruhn

Hey, if Caligula forced a noble to commit suicide when he offered to give his life instead of the Emperor’s when he became almost fatally ill, the least Obama can do is oblige Ted.

    • TampaDink

I’m sure that if more American voters knew who Ann Coultergeist is that Hillary’s team would find a tasteful way to incorporate this statement into a t.v. ad, offering Ann’s retirement from politics as a political promise. Truth be told. most people who don’t follow politics closely and who’ve never watched Bill Mahr, have no idea who she is.

      • Bruno

Is she even on Fox much anymore? I feel like after Obama’s election, she really went even further into obscurity except for the occasional times when the poor liberals she tries to taunt melt down on something she says.

        • TampaDink

I’m not sure. I make it a point to never tune in to FNN.

          • Bruno

Me neither. Not since about 2003 when I didn’t quite realize what a fucking bunch of nutjobs they were.

          • TampaDink

Based on what I read here, they’ve gotten worse since then.

          • Bruno

Probably, but when I think about it it can’t be much different. O’Reilly still there. Hannity still there without Colmes, which actually makes no difference in the tone of that show whatsoever. Fox & Friends still going with Steve Duncy and Brian Killme and whichever blonde they’ve hired for the year. Greta and Shep and Brit still pandering for their conservative masters. Maybe with Ailes gone something will change, but I doubt it.

          • safari

NPR told me that part of one of their opinion shows is devoted to who has the best legs via a leg cam.

          • TampaDink

Maybe they’ll get rid of their gam cam now that Roger (bad for what) Ailes (you) jumped with his platinum parachute.

    • Michael Rush

Ted Nugent promised to be dead or in jail if Obama won ,
      these people are USELESS !!!

    • safari

I just realized something. Does Ann Coulter actually eat food?

      • TampaDink

        Define “food”. ;-p

      • Treant

Yes, if “the blood of innocents” is food.

    • djcoastermark

I’m not so sure I would want to try any of her recipes. Not only that, I would have no idea where to find fresh Eye of Newt or gizzards of lizards.

      • TampaDink

I think that Newt (and his eyes) can probably be rounded up in the D.C. metro area. I believe that he & Caligula live in VA. As for lizards gizzards, they can be very hard to extract unless you go with a larger variety of lizards….like giant iguanas.

        • safari

Unless Newt is one of the lizard people, in which case it is one stop shopping.

          • TampaDink

            Bonus!

      • CB

Finger of birth-strangled babe, ditch delivered by a drab. (My favorite ingredient in the mix in The Scottish Play.)

      • Traxley Launderette

She knows how to stir the turd and serve shit sandwiches. That’s about it.

I’d rather see her work weekend shifts at Chuck E Cheese. She could sub for Chuck E if he calls in when the herpes comes back, and makes sure to clean up the vomit in the ball pit. Something tells me she’s had experience with the latter.

      • Snarkaholic

I’ll bet her Chicken Chernobyl is to die for!

        • Steve Teeter

There’s actually a cookbook about cooking with cum. It’s called “Semenology,” and it’s available from Amazon. I sure won’t be helping Coulter try out any of its recipes, however.

    • Kruhn

My response to that statement if it were true…

  • DaddyRay

OT: I see on Twitter it is National Dance Day

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=as1c3ZOMcBU

    • djcoastermark

I have always loved that song. kinda my anthem in a way.

      • DaddyRay

I love that video too – always makes me feel so happy.
It also shows some incredible dance numbers that bring back good memories

      • TuuxKabin

        No wonder.

I watched it and it led into: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jyj1qhj4WPY

Both videos made me cry tears of joy, tears of pride. Who has more fun than us?

        • djcoastermark

That was so fun to watch. Great motto IMO.

          • TuuxKabin

I’ve been re-playing both. Don’t laugh, but I never heard “I Just Want To Fuckin’ Dance”. It came out when I was in a deep, dark funk and not listening to music, which I’ve learned is the exact thing to do when depressed, duh. I’ve got a lot of catching up to do.

Got anymore links to ‘happy dance’ music, please throw ’em my way.

Happy day after “National I Just Wanna Fuckin’ Dance” day. I’m still dancing. Fuck ya!

          • djcoastermark

That song really got to me when the dance mix came out. I had just gotten an all clear from between stage 3 and 4 cancer. So yeah, I just wanted to f***’n dance. The original is from “Jerry Springer, The Opera” which played on stage in the UK, sung by Alison Jiear ( as Shawntel) and was remixed into what you hear today. The show is fun for a popcorn night at home. There’s a cool version of her performing it at the Sydney Mardi Gras thats cool to see. (she gives the drag queens a run for thier money ) Here’s the link https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1WJ_RAadnxU . And a link to the stage show version. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zW8gQjNkBcY

          • TuuxKabin

eres un tesoro. mil gracias! And congratulations on your recovery, please stay that way.

I attached the montage DaddyRay posted to a Scottish friend. He replied how it made him cry a lil’ bit because of all the memories from the musicals he’s seen, all his life. I added the Manchester Pride 2013. Waiting his reply.

            Thanks again.

          • TuuxKabin

Wow! We finally got around to watching. Busy with flash floods. In NYC of all places. Only received about an hour of a heavy down pour but had some damage control to roof and drains. Heat dome scooted out to sea. Fire forecast for this evening, followed by brimstone showers later in the day. Meteor strike, finally thanks all giver gods and goddesses, forecast for Tuesday evening. Hope all’s well with you. I can’t stop finding and playing multiple versions of this song. It’s fucking brilliant. I’ve finally stopped crying when I watch it.

  • Bruno
    • Treant

      That’s nice.

It’s a bit like meandering up to some guy and saying, “I would love to strip you down, lick you all over, suck your dick, and watch you shoot all over me. No homo.”

      • Bruno

“As many of you have probably noticed, I’ve stayed away from politics on FB”…well he sure decided to start with a doozy, didn’t he?

        • TampaDink

          Doozy/douchy.

          • Bruno

Actually Steve Doocy/Douchy started as the weatherman on Faux, I remember that now. I thought all weathermen are gay, but it seems like some are and the rest are douchy and racist.

          • TampaDink

Douchy & racist is no way to go through life.

          • Adam King

A lot of weathermen are shaky on the whole IQ thing. Many deny climate change, because they’re butthurt that they’re just lowly meteorologists and not highfalutin climatologists like them smart folks with higher degrees.

          • TampaDink

To me, they are no better than physicians who deny science in place of make believe.

    • djcoastermark

The only part I agreed with is when he said he has a passion for weather. So do I. Weather is very important. Sunshine ,rain etc. Sheesh.

      • Bruno

I hate those weatherpeople who just seem so disinterested in the weather all the time.

      • Adam King

It just keeps changing! I can’t keep my eyes off it!

    • Traxley Launderette

He asked his African-American “acquaintance” (he has one, apparently) and was SHOCKED to learn that “thug” had racist connotations.

Dude, you work for a news program. Spare us.

      • Bruno

His African-American friend? Sounds like tRump and Serena. Or not.

        • Traxley Launderette

          Not “friend,” it’s “acquaintance.”

Like maybe the guy who does his lawn service. Or the woman at the Target checkout. Or the barista where he buys his coffee.

They’re people he knows well enough to talk about general news. They seem “normal” to him, and as black, they should be able to answer an impersonal question.

But they’re folks he’d never have over for drinks and dinner.

          • Bruno

And this guy lives in the DFW area. It’s not Iceland FFS, he should know a few people of color.

          • Traxley Launderette

He might, but perhaps only in a server/client relationship. Never social. Friends are social.

I strongly doubt he lives in anything but a whites-only enclave.

  • Michael Rush
    • Sam_Handwich

      oh my

    • Bruno

So, I guess they think this will actually…get tRump votes?

      • Michael Rush

I forgot it was the pro Trump Post , I get it mixed up with the anti Trump Daily News

        • Sam_Handwich

          that’s the weird part!!!

          post endorsed trump in April

          http://nypost.com/2016/04/14/the-post-endorses-donald-trump/

          • Bruno

They’re probably banking on it helping tRump. At least it’ll get minds off of all his other issues if it becomes sort of “scandal.” Truth is, there’s nothing particularly scandalous about it, esp. in this day and age, so the Post is just vying for attention for themselves and the candidate (and foreign despot) they shill for.

          • Michael Rush

            That makes sense

          • Adam King

Or one from every member of the team.

      • Sam_Handwich

wait, is that the point? i’m confused

        • Adam King

Me too. Naked ladies always do that to me.

      • djcoastermark

Going for the younger ones. You know those kids with the mags under their beds are the future of the USA.

        • Adam King

Anyone who has “mags under their beds” is no youngster. There’s this thing called the internet….

      • NowAnAgnostic

      • Bruno

I know I do, at least.

        • TampaDink

I’d prefer that not happen until after he loses to Hillary in a record breaking landslide….on the same night that we retake control of the Senate…and the House.
(Yes, I realize that that retaking the House is unlikely BUT if he keeps it up as their standard bearer, who knows how big a victory we could get. But even IF he continues to go full sociopath every day until then, we cannot become complacent & must encourage every registered Dem. to vote as though our lives depend on it….because, well, they DO!)

          • zhera

Question: What happens if a nominee dies before the election? Does the VP nominee slide up one place, or does the party find an other candidate?

          • Steve Teeter

Once the convention’s adjourned, I don’t think the party leaders can just ignore its decisions. I think the VP nominee would move into the top slot. As for the VP slot, they’d probably have to wait until after the election. If their guy was elected and took office, he’d probably propose someone for VP. Like Nixon did with Ford (since Agnew had resigned in disgrace), and Ford did with Rockefeller (since there was nobody elected to fall back on). Ahh, the Seventies. Then the Senate did the whole Advise and Consent thing, voted approval, and that was that. I may be wrong, but I don’t think there was anything in the Constitution at the time to allow for that. They just did it anyway.

          • zhera

            Thanks.
I wonder if they’d do that if Trump died. I have a feeling they’d be begging Cruz to step up…

          • clay

Ryan would get ANOTHER government job he doesn’t want and this time it WON’T come with weekends off!

          • Bruno

Nothing’s impossible this election. Romney was at least right about that.

          • TampaDink

I was saying back in April that this will be a historic election whether we elect our first woman, first Jew or our first clown.

          • Bruno

            Clown lives matter!

          • TampaDink

            The real quote was

I misquoted it the first times I tried to comment on it .

See, Michele is a wimp. She only had the nerve to show her arms. The rebubs will spin this as t rumps wife is a brave woman for daring to do this. /s

    • DaddyRay

After seeing how the GoTP drooled over Sarah Palin this will only help Trump. Plus it will garner sympathy for Trump as they are going after his wife

      • Bruno

I guess they wouldn’t care that it’s actually a conservative rag “going after his wife.”

        • DaddyRay

Nope – they love when women are treated like objects

          • TampaDink

They treat their objects like women. Never accept a seat on the sofa of a rethuglican.

Wow. I’m sorry about your brother.

          • TampaDink

I understand. One of my 3 surviving siblings & her husband a staunch republicans (naturally they indoctrinated their daughter…who just graduated from law school). They taunted me in ’08 leading up to the election and again in ’12. They own a business & things have never been better for their company than they are now. I’m sure that has nothing to do with Obama.
I’ve made it a point to avoid any political discourse with them this cycle. It would break my heart to learn that they are devoted to donnie the commie con man.

Hitler was supposed to be an artist .

          • TampaDink

Trump is also an artist. No…not “the art of the deal”, just your ordinary, run of the mill bullshit artist.

          • Michael Rush

Thomas Kinkaide, perhaps the only prolific “artist” whose works didn’t increase in value upon his death.

          • Steve Teeter

How could they? They were hardly his. He’d paint a master painting then let his teams of hacks make multiple copies. Then he’d look them over and make a few touches, so he could legally say he’d worked on them. Then they sold like hotcakes. If they were labelled with the standards that art scholars require, they’d be designated “School of Thomas Kinkaide.”

    • DaddyRay

He is trying to change the subject off of his Russian connections and Taxes

      • Michael Rush

The news needs to report on some of the tricks he uses .

Does this sound like Donald Trump to you ?

His primary rules were: never allow the public to cool off; never admit a fault or wrong; never concede that there may be some good in your enemy; never leave room for alternatives; never accept blame; concentrate on one enemy at a time and blame him for everything that goes wrong; people will believe a big lie sooner than a little one; and if you repeat it frequently enough people will sooner or later believe it .

United States Office of Strategic Services in describing Hitler’s psychological profile

        • Adam King

Trump has the media wrapped around his little finger. He can play them like a violin, because he understands their motives are clicks and ratings, and since he’s right, they let him do it. They love him for it. It gets them clicks and ratings.

          • Lazycrockett

However the media is quite away of Drumpf’s numerous statement to change laws making it easier to sue media for slander. The media will eventually go on the defense.

        • TampaDink

“concentrate” on one enemy….is very chilling.

          • Michael Rush

I’m expecting FILTHY tricks before the election , I hope everyone on the Hillary team is prepared

          • TampaDink

I’d ask how much filthier can the tricks be than encouraging the Russians to hack into her life…..but I know better. There is no limit to the depths that he will sink to.

          • Lazycrockett

If anyone is prepared for filthy tricks its Team Hillary.

          • djcoastermark

That what scares me. I don’t think we have even begun to see what nastiness is to come.

          • RoFaWh

Yeah. Hitler concentrated on the Jews during the short run of the Thousand Year Reich, but the Roma, the gays, and various other opponents entered the death camps too.

The insightful were well aware that once he’d destroyed European Jewry, the Slavs (Poles, Czechs, Russians, Serbians, etc) would be next.

            One “enemy” at a time.

          • TampaDink

There is that adage about those who do not learn from history being doomed to repeat it.

    • Adam King

He’s figured out that if he does it enough, people will just shrug it off. The same people who scream that Shillary is the worstest liar ever born on the face of the earth.

      • Steve Teeter

I have a fantasy of a presidential debate that has a video screen set up by the side of the stage. And when Trump lies, the screen shows him saying the opposite before news cameras, or maybe several contradictory things on the same subject. And then Hillary turns to him like a stern school teacher and says, “Now shall we discuss this, Donald?”

    • RoFaWh

Trump’s internal view of the world must be very strange. As a chronic liar himself who rarely if ever utters “truth”, Trump must think that everyone else is the same. How is it to live in a world where you disbelieve everything said to you?

“Turn right at the next light, Donnie”

“No, you’re lying, I’m in charge here.”

  • houstonray

Not sure if y’all have seen what he said tonight to ABC News about Khizr Khan…

“If you look at his wife, she was standing there. She had nothing to say. She probably, maybe she wasn’t allowed to have anything to say. You tell me,” he said in an interview with ABC on Saturday..

I would be happy if it weren’t so horrible for that wonderful family who has already lost so much…

    • TampaDink

He could have simply done a quick search to find the video of their interview last night with Lawrence O’Donnell, where Mrs. Khan did speak & explained why she didn’t speak at the convention.

    • clay

So, all those spouses of Trump supporters who didn’t even bother to show up . . .

  • Cuberly
    • Adam King

That’s what happens when you’re honest–it just keeps getting better and better. Something Trump will never understand.

      • Cuberly

The fact the Khan’s have been so forthright reflects the bravery of their son. This isn’t going away, and it shouldn’t.

        • Adam King

          What a family, all around!

    • Lazycrockett

Looks like Mrs Kahn subscribes to the ancient saying: “When they go low, we go High.

      • Lumpy Gaga

Hah! She was the one shushing would-be chanters trying to disrupt FLOTUS.

    • clay

I think it’s pretty great, but still too subtle, that the Muslim has one wife, and the “evangelical Presbyterian” has had three.

    • HanyBaal

After watching the Khans interviewed by Lawrence O’Donnell, I get the distinct impression they may lean Republican. Khizr’s appeal to Ryan McConnell’s decency betrays an ahistoric naivete. I was moved to tears for their loss and filled with pride for their non-jingoistic patriotism. However, I won’t be surprised when homophobic remarks get attributed to them. They seem too conservative and somewhat rigid to be open as minded as their eloquence might imply.

      • Kruhn

And that is the problem with the modern GOP, perhaps the Khans are natural constituencies for the party, but because they’re a bunch of racists, they’re being pushed to the Democrats. I’m a pragmatist. To paraphrase Churchill, if the Devil is opposed to the Weapons-Grade Plum, I’ll say a couple of nice words on the Floor of the Commons.

    • Kruhn

Snap!!!!! Mr, Khan for the win! Too bad I didn’t know Mrs. Khan was so distraught, she couldn’t speak. I mentioned to everyone I spoke about the speech that the only thing that would have made the speech even stronger is for Mrs. Khan to have said a few words or two. Still, now wonder Captain Humayun Khan was a hero, he was raised well by awesome parents.

  • Lazycrockett

Well Drumpf released a new statement bout his remarks of the Khan’s and in typical fashion makes it all bout himself.

    • Sam_Handwich
    • Lazycrockett

Journalist are swarming twitter saying that this would be a typical press release written by staff and Drumpf inserted the Kahn slam himself cause of the grammatical error.

      • TampaDink

Yep. As soon as I read that statement, it was obvious that he only wrote part of it. There are too many multiple syllable words for it to be authentically his alone.

    • tcinsf

He has read the constitution, more than most. I mean, I’ve never read 12 articles.

      • Steve Teeter

One great thing about the Constitution, when you read it, is that it is
not just a vital legal document, the foundation of our government. It’s
that it was written by men who thought it could be all that and be
elegantly written at the same time. The prose is crystal clear, and a
        pleasure to read.

Reading the amendments is also educational.
The early ones have the same quality of clear and understandable prose.
But some time after the Civil War, around the 1880s or so. legalese
starts creeping in, and it gets worse and worse as the years go by.

        • clay

    • Adam King

Exactly why he’ll weasel out. He’ll make up some excuse blaming Clinton, the right wing media will twist into knots rationalizing–and the mainstream media will report that this thing occurred, and move on. Just like with his scummy, obviously corrupt avoidance of releasing his tax returns.

Man, that meme is getting around!

  • Ninja0980

I’ve already seen what Trump and his supporters line of attacks against the Khans will be, attacking their faith and bringing up Benghazi over and over again, using the one mother who has basically said Clinton murdered her son as a counterpoint.
Disgusting but what else you expect at this point?

    • TampaDink

But they won’t mention the demands of Ambassador Steven’s family to stop using his death as a talking point any sooner than they’d consider discussing the number of embassy attack related fatalities under W..

      • lymis

And they won’t mention that Clinton was among the people requesting significantly higher budgets for embassy security to help prevent exactly what happened, which were shut down by the Republicans who denied the funding.

One of the new talking points that just sickens me is that “Khan’s son wouldn’t have died if Clinton hadn’t voted for the war in the first place” – as though the whole thing wasn’t a Republican shitshow from the very beginning. Democrats who went blindly along have a lot to answer for, but trying to divert all the fault to Democrats is absolutely disgusting.

        • clay

Remember, by his own admission, Trump only opposed the war in Iraq once we were a year into it.

          • TampaDink

I hope that he does. The more people that he lashes out at, the harder it will be for his campaign to end well.

          • Ninja0980

I’m hoping for that too, it will only ensure Ohio Republicans won’t do a damn thing to help him.

          • TampaDink

His behavior has been foul all along but he seems to be amping up on the immature approach to politics. May the pool of republicans who’d consider voting for him continue to shrink & become as shallow as he is.

          • Ninja0980

He’ll still have 35% to 40% of the country because they hate Clinton and all the groups Trump is bashing and that’s a damn shame.

          • TampaDink

Sad….and true. Many of those voters consistently vote against their own best interests. (if they vote at all)

          • Joseph Miceli

Hmmm. Seems to me you have to ask how many of them like Trump enough or hate Hillary enough to go to the polls. That’s what this will depend on. That favorable/unfavorable poll is probably the best metric of how this is going to turn out.

          • Lazycrockett

    • Treant

Of course, the Democrats tend to be a bit younger and also tend to use these weird things like video streaming that don’t get counted. Let’s just forget that and go with TV.

It’s weird, but I watched night #1 of the convention on TV, got tired of the ads and went to streams for nights 2 and 3. I doubt I’m the only one.

      • Lazycrockett

True, you can bet the Bernie supporters were watching it on devices that typical ratings don’t count.

They should just move the debates one days on, which should not require that much effort to change…

But we all know Donnie will wuss out of the dates no matter what!

    • lymis

It’s ludicrous, in a world of DVRs and internet streaming, to schedule major political events around football games, or any other television priority. The NETWORKS have every reason to want to space out their high-viewership events, but the public doesn’t.

Personally, I think it’s ridiculous for anyone to want to watch a football game anyway, but I understand that people do. So record the debate or watch the highlights online later. Or if politics is more important, record the game and watch the debate.

    • sherman

Although the exact games were not known, the debate committee knew that the NFL schedules games on certain nights of the week – Sunday, Monday, Thursday. They could have avoided the conflict had they felt it important. Baseball playoffs in October can be any night of the week.

But as you said, Trump is just making an excuse.

I don’t want to call him a pussy, because that is disrespectful to women (there is nothing wrong at all with vajayjay, it just isn’t on my menu) and calling him a girlie -man or a woosie is really just more of the same. There must be SOMETHING that will get under his skin and make him feel like Hillary owns his balls.

    • David L. Caster

He’s an over privileged adolescent in a big body that’s in need of a serious spanking and a time-out. Hillary is just the right grandmother to give it to him too.

    • Mikey

nothing wrong with saying he has a small dick and tiny hands.
that really plays into his masculine insecurities.
he’s probably a premature ejaculator as well.

      • RoFaWh

Or else he just dribbles a little when he cums.

    • Gianni

I get the sense that if Hillary speaks to him in a manner that shows that she’s one woman who is not awestruck by him and is every bit capable of chewing him up and spitting him out, he’ll crack at some point. I have no doubt that she is going to bait him w/o needing to tweet it. A woman who is not in any way submissive to Trump is going to rankle him terribly. I can’t imagine him holding his tongue during the debates or in subsequent tweets. Look what happened with just that one question from Megan Kelly.

    • lymis

Insult his maturity – call him a boy, a baby, a child.

The things that he seems to value are his popularity, his money, and his influence. Listen to him – even in his presidential campaign, he keeps saying he’s going to win because people like him, not because he has a clue how to run the country. He wont’ release his taxes and diverts any questions about his bank balance or debt.

You can also compare him to Hillary in terms of the obvious fact that she has vastly more competence in all this than he does.

Trump doesn’t care whether he’s seen as masculine. He cares whether he’s seen as a winner.

      • RoFaWh

        His money?

ITYM his non-existent (or mythical) money.

    • TuuxKabin

Maybe call him a ‘nanny’s boy’. Implying his mother didn’t take care of him, but perhaps some foreign born other woman, hired by the family. Possibly of Eastern European descent. Which may explain his fondness for Eastern European women and distrust of foreigners? Bit of a dichotomy. Yes, you can call me ‘strawdog’.

    • RepublicansRNotConservative

Joseph, you are right. I did call him a pussy, but it made me uncomfortable for all of the reasons you say. But I struggled to figure out what would be more agitating to him. Couldn’t think of anything. I would be happy to find a word that would agitate him as much or more (along with his supporters) but I’m at a loss.

    • Kuka

Call him poor, or boring. Better yet, just ignore him altogether. He feeds on attention, which I believe is the real reason he is running. I don’t think he ever expected things to get this far, but his ego won’t let him stop.

    • Bruno

Choose any synonym. ANY attack on him gets under his skin.

I’ll squeal and tell you what one of Canada’s big secrets is: most Canucks don’t give politics a very important position in their lives.

Our politicians are goofs, clowns, idiots, incompetent do-gooders and we like them that way. Example: the City of Victoria decided some years ago not to bother with marijuana much. As a result, there are more cannabis “dispensaries” in Victoria than there are Starbucks outlets. At the moment, the City is busy promulgating rules and regulations galore, but those who do this fail to do something else important: with free sales of marijuana for some years now, any problems that might surface have in fact surfaced by now.

Let’s look at a few these problems and their current status:

      1. Problem: naked men high on grass running down the street naked. Situation: nothing like that has occurred.

      2. School children buying dope on their lunch hours. Status: hasn’t happened.

      3. Churches bursting into flames because a dispensary opened up next door and gawd is smiting them. Status: hasn’t happened.

The bureaucrats have forgotten to makes sure they’re plugged into reality by looking out the window. They’re busy making rules to prevent entirely imaginary events.

    New post-convention PPP poll

Clinton Image Improves Following Conventions; Leads Trump by 5
    http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2016/07/clinton-image-improves-following-conventions-leads-trump-by-5.html

74% of Trump voters think Clinton should be in prison, to only 12% who
disagree. By a 66/22 margin they say Clinton is a bigger threat to the
United States than Russia. And 33% think Clinton even has ties to
Lucifer, to 36% who say they don’t think so, and 31% who are unsure
    either way

    • billbear1961

She leads him 50/45 when it’s just the two of them, and 46/41 when the third-party candidates are included, by 5 points both times.

Clinton Image Improves Following Conventions; Leads Trump by 5

PPP’s new national poll, taken completely after both party’s conventions, finds that Hillary Clinton emerged with a much more positive image than she had a month ago. Donald Trump meanwhile is just as unpopular as he was before the conventions.

Clinton’s net favorability improved by 9 points over the last month. She’s still not popular, with a -6 net favorability at 45/51, but it’s a good deal better than the -15 spread she had at 39/54 a month ago. The gains are particularly attributable to Democrats increasing in their enthusiasm for her, going from giving her a 76/15 rating to an 83/12 one. Trump, on the other hand, is at a -22 net favorability with 36% of voters seeing him favorably to 58% with a negative one. That’s barely changed at all from the 35/58 standing we found for him in late June.

Still scratching my head over the Post’s objective. It’s owned by Murdoch and they endorsed Trump in April.

      • lymis

There comes a point where their objective is money. I won’t be surprised if, as things progress, it becomes clear that the money isn’t in supporting Trump, but in reporting scandals and “exposing” new details about his business dealings and unstable temperament, you know that all the money-focused rags are going to turn on a dime.

        • billbear1961

You mean they’ve made all the money they think they can with their orange cash cow, and destroying him will now be the way to rake it in??

Boy, with friends like that . . .

Well, the vile BASTARD has got it COMING.

          Let’s hope it works!!

The creature will blow a GASKET over this story about his wife.

Btw, which papers would you say are NOT primarily money-focused rags??

        • Treant

I totally agree, and one reason I haven’t been terribly worried as of yet.

“Idiot Confirmed As Idiot” doesn’t sell a lot of papers.

“Exciting New Scandal About Highly Regarded Candidate” … now that sells papers.

To get the latter, you have to promote him as viable for a while at least, which also sells papers. And the media is fully aware how oppressive a Trump Presidency would be to their own freedom of speech, so there’s that as well.

          • RoFaWh

…how oppressive a Trump regime would be to their own freedom of speech…

Make that “…how oppressive a Trump regime would try to be…”

I suspect that if Trump made it into the Oval Office, he’d discover, among other things, that the US gubbmint is far larger than any business he’s ever been involved (or uninvolved) in and the bureaucrats that run it for the most part would simply ignore his more outrageous squawks. “Fire that asshole!” “Here’s the HR paperwork, Mr. President, for you to fill out. You will note that being an asshole is not a valid cause to fire someone.”

      • billbear1961

If it’s not what lymis is suggesting, I’ve got no idea what they’re up to.

But, then, I’ve only glanced at it.

      • billbear1961

        I just read the story.

They don’t actually criticize her for it, and they quote Trump saying such photos are “common in Europe.”

Maybe they think the photos will be popular with the troglodyte males voting for Trump??

But it surprises me they’d think MOST Americans would be thrilled with a First Lady with this in her past.

I suppose the two-faced Christers voting for him will say Jeebus has forgiven her!

But I don’t really understand why they’ve done this–it’s very odd.

I suppose it will sell papers, but it seems like a rather risky thing to do, politically.

        • Bruno

I think the risk is probably minimal. As a society we’ve mostly gone beyond these kind of “scandals”…part of the result of the sexual revolution and Madonna not being ashamed etc. etc. And like you said it can only help with the troglodyte male vote. I think it’ll probably not sway the election either way, overall.

Some interesting findings from the new PPP poll, which shows Clinton ahead of Trump by 5 points . . .

The Vladimir Putin/Russia issue has the potential to cause Donald Trump a lot of problems in the weeks ahead. Only 7% of Americans view Putin favorably to 69% with a negative opinion and only 14% see Russia as a whole favorably to 52% with a negative view. By a 47 point margin- 5% more likely, 52% less likely- voters say they’re less likely to vote for a candidate if it’s perceived Russia is interfering in the election to try to help them. And by a 26 point margin- 9% more likely, 35% less likely- they’re less likely to vote for a candidate seen as being friendly toward Russia. If Democrats can effectively leverage this issue in the weeks ahead it has the potential to help turn this into a more lopsided race.

Also problematic for Trump is that the issue of him releasing his tax returns isn’t going anywhere. 62% of voters think he needs to release them to only 23% who think it’s not necessary. That includes Democrats (85/8) and independents (60/22) overwhelmingly thinking Trump needs to release them and Republicans (37/43) being pretty evenly split on the issue.

      http://www.publicpolicypolling.com/main/2016/07/clinton-image-improves-following-conventions-leads-trump-by-5.html#more

      • Bruno

Thanks Bill, this is good news. Sure, I’d have liked to have seen +10 or +15, but PPP is a good, solid pollster that I trust. No question now that the Dems got a bounce off the convention, and that’s no surprise either. The question now is can they build on this lead or will it keep swinging back and forth. I think tRump won’t help himself with his mouth during the general election. I can’t think of anything he can say to move the dial in his favor. Only Clinton and the people who attack her have the real power in this election to make her lose. It’s possible though. I’ll reserve my new optimism number 1-10 until after polls come out on Monday.

        • Bruno

Also good news in this poll is that Johnson is polling at 6% while Stein only 2%. She’s not winning over disaffected Bernie voters much. And hopefully Johnson is pulling mostly from the GOP ticket.

      • Falconlights

Thank you for posting this, billbear. This all adds some very interesting background to the election and hopefully, these numbers will work for Clinton.

WaPo reports that on Friday night at an event at Univ Colorardo Trump insulted the Colorado Springs Fire Department which hadn’t allowed people to exceed the event limit, (although his events have generally run under his claims). Trump said “they don’t know what they’re doing”, and called their Marshall Lacey “probably a Democrat, probably a guy that doesn’t get it.” Marshall Lacey had very recently been named Civilian of the Year for his response to a pair of mass shootings there, and the kicker is…….their Fire Department had just rescued him, Trump, and 9 trapped in an elevator. They’d opened the top hatch of the elevator, lowered a ladder down and all made it safely out of the elevator, allowing Trump to get to the event at which he then insulted his rescuers. Marshall Lacey responded graciously.
    https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/the-fix/wp/2016/07/30/trumps-burn-of-the-colorado-springs-fire-dept-came-right-after-they-rescued-him/?tid=pm_pop_b

I hope word gets around in Colorado at least. Seriously, Trump is insulting families of soldiers, fire fighters, and all the usual groups the GOP like to claim they love & worship. I’m wondering when Trump will be insulting the Secret Service and cops next.

    • Bruno

I have to say I’m now curious if Lacey is affiliated with either major party. Fire marshall of the very conservative city of Colorado Springs doesn’t exactly scream “Democrat!” to me.

      • Ross

Yes, the VOX article is damning. Thank you.

      • another_steve

On the Sunday morning talk shows, I see many Democrats are calling for Republican leadership in the House and Senate to repudiate Trump’s response to the Khan family.

Excellent strategy. I hope all of Clinton’s surrogates run with it.

Make all the bastards squirm. Make it increasingly difficult for moderate Republicans to pull the lever for any Republican in November.

        • Bruno

I think it’s ultimately a winning issue for the Dems, because just about all Dems are horrified by tRump’s reaction, and a good amount of centrist and establishment GOP. Couple that with nailing tRump to Putin, and they could score some big points.

  • Ross

    O/T:

As others have mentioned, I, too, do not think Trump will debate Clinton.

But I think the debates should still go on.

    Picture Hillary at a lectern.

Trump will appear on a large video monitor. Except, he won’t be live. The monitor will show something previously stated by him.

    For example:

“Mr. Trump. Do you think all Muslims should be banned from the country?”

Then the monitor will play one of his previous recorded statements on the subject.

The moderator will then turn to the live Hillary and ask the same question. She, of course, will be brilliant.

Every “response” from Trump should show him at his absolute worse (not difficult of course), while allowing Hillary plenty of time to shine.

If this were to happen in Debate #1, I would bet that Trump shows up for the next round.

    • Bruno

LOL, I do like how you think. But I could see stupid Americans not being pleased thinking it was a stunt on Hillary’s part rather than a cop-out on tRump’s.

      • Ross

I see your point, but I think it could be presented in a way where it was clear that that the debate had no choice to proceed with such format because Trump refused to participate.

        • Bruno

I don’t usually see tons in this town, for a variety of reasons, …partly cause I think in the South they’ll only do so when they think they’re a clear majority where they are, and if it’s a liberal bumpersticker there may be concerns about vandals or cops.

I always wonder what people like that are going to do if/when their guy loses.

        • Bruno

Let’s just say a spike in militia formation. More “open carry” demonstrations. As Clinton’s character continues to get dinged as president, it’ll probably get uglier than anything we’ve ever seen.

Actual thing Drumpf tweeted this morning.

No but he publicly supported it before he didn’t. Hopefully he’ll never have a say or vote on anything in any form of government.

Trump doesn’t seem to understand that being viciously attacked comes with the territory when you enter politics, but doesn’t entitle you to respond in kind.

No, Loser Donald, you are NOT allowed to respond.

  • Galvestonian

He’s trying to get out of any debate against someone with experience and a real mind.

  • Frostbite

Is Trump lying even a newsworthy event any more?

    • Friday

I think the Republicans have been working towards that for a decade and a half now.

But Trump has proven to be their master in this field.

        • Friday

I think the problem is they made it so it doesn’t even take a ‘master’ just the loudest, most ridiculous ‘dominance displays.’

    • kanehau

No, but his telling the truth would be.

      • Frostbite

Yeah, I think we have a better chance of finding a unicorn on Mars.

  • Michael Hampton

I long for the days when this was a funny joke that we all thought would blow away after the first racist tirade.

A Twitter compendium of Donald Trump’s sacrifices.

If it wasn’t for immigrants, Trump would have no wives.

  • BudClark

This transaction must have taken place in some alternate world in which Trump actually possesses a brain….
