NOM Continues To Money-Beg On FADA After Other Haters Withdraw Over New Anti-Straight Language

In recent weeks both the Family Research Council and the Liberty Counsel have angrily withdrawn their support for the so-called First Amendment Defense Act (FADA) due to recently-inserted language that also would legalize discrimination against straight married couples on the basis of “religious belief or moral conviction.”

But not NOM, who have completely hung their hat on FADA since they can no longer fleece their flock with the specter of same-sex marriage. Case in point, via email today:

The success of NOM’s Summer Membership Drive is absolutely critical for us to generate the resources we need to carry on our essential work fighting for marriage and religious liberty. And I have to tell you, I am disappointed with the response thus far. We should be over 20% toward our goal by now, but we’re only at 10%. Needless to say, ten percent is not going to cut it. We can’t influence Congress to pass the First Amendment Defense Act if only ten percent of our people help.

What about you? Are you willing to step up and make an immediate membership donation of at least $35 so that I know you are still standing with us. The fight for marriage and religious liberty sits on a knife-edge, teetering between preservation and devastating loss. We are depending on you and all our supporters for the resources needed to prevail in this historic battle.

I don’t mean to be dramatic, but the fact of the matter is that all our plans for the rest of the year are in jeopardy unless we get a strong response to our Summer Membership Drive. ‘ve been involved in running pro-family nonprofit groups for nearly twenty years. I’ve been through the “summer doldrums” before where people do not give as generously as they do at other times, but we can’t have that kind of response this year. Our work is too important and it can’t be put off until later when more people are able to give. Please act today. We need it.
