  • bkmn

Only if I get to take Mo Collins along so she can repeat her line from AbFab – “Barbra can you hear me?”

    • Butch

I never understood what that meant.

      • bkmn

She was talking to her wig that supposedly used to belong to Streisand. Her character is a scam artist and one of her scams was to “channel” people after touching something they once owned.

          • Rex

I dated a gay republican for 15 years, he didn’t like Barbra either. Not liking Barbra is not what ended the relationship, I can deal with that!

          • TuuxKabin

Well, we’re certainly not reghugliscum. So, it’s a deal.

  • Bj Lincoln

I want to see her so badly! I am too poor to ever afford 1 ticket let alone 2 so I could share this with my bride. I have loved her for as long as I can remember. I could sing all her songs when I was much younger. My Mom had every album and I knew every song. I could die a very happy woman having seen the greatest voice in my lifetime.
I know this sounds desperate and I don’t care.

    • Brian Burleson

BJ, I love your posts here on JMG but have one nagging question in the back of my mind. Are you sure that you are not a gay man? All that love of all things Babs and all. Just asking. (I really do enjoy seeing your posts. )

    • Canadian Observer

No accounting for taste. If I win you are welcome to the tickets (personally I would prefer to drive knitting needles into my ears). Good luck to you BJ

      • TuuxKabin

Move over. I wanna sit next to you and visit.

    • Guest

Well I am with you BJ, she is an amazing performer. “Canadian Observer” is probably the disgruntled and threatened Anne Murray.

      • Johnson

He probably is like me and would rather watch paint dry than listen to that Narcissistic Old Harpy. Not all Gay Men, contrary to stereotypes, are gaga for Babs.

I’m going to see Hedda Lettuce present Joan Crawford in I Saw What You Did on Thursday night and the premiere of Meryl Streep in Florence Foster Jenkins at least once on Friday. Seeing La Streisand on Saturday would make my trip as perfect as possible!

    • TuuxKabin

What did she do on Thursday night? Welcome to Gotham. Hope you have a grand time. Easy to do.

      • Mike__in_Houston

I think she’s been performing on Fire Island. The movie theater is under new management, but she will be back Thursday night to show Humoresque. Thank you; I always have a wonderful time in NYC

  • Rex

Saw a Facebook post on this with a pic of the girls with rainbow flags on their outfits. What’s that all about?

O/T: George WILL says Trump won’t release his tax returns because they’ll show how DEEPLY involved he is with the Russian oligarchs (and fascist strongman PUTIN!!).

Duh, that is becoming obvious to anyone paying any goddamned attention!

Still–STILL!!–there are no LOUD calls for the TRAITOR to release his returns!!

Perhaps the traitorous BASTARD is having doctored releases prepared!!

    http://www.realclearpolitics.com/video/2016/07/25/george_will_trump_doesnt_want_to_release_tax_returns_because_he_is_deeply_involved_in_dealing_with_russia.html

    • Bruno

George Will. My stars. With all the mess on the Democratic side, we’ve forgotten how splintered the other side is. I wish anyone cared much about George Will outside of establishment Rethuglican circles, though. Thanks Bill!

      • billbear1961

        You’re welcome, sweetheart!

Any help from any quarter to bring DOWN the BEAST!!

        • Bruno

Maybe Hillary should make a hard play for establishment Republicans. She doesn’t seem to be getting much of anywhere with delusional BernieBots. 🙁

    • It is incredible that Donald Trump said that his “friends” in Russia and China probably hacked the DNC yesterday (he said this) — and I even thought he said there was more to come. Perhaps the far left in the USA might be ok with this (Green Party on out) — and the far right (Rand Paul – David Duke Republicans to the right) — but shouldn’t everyone else. including normal Republicans, be crapping in their pants about a President who feels that he owns a debt to these thugs? I do not get it.

  • billbear1961

O/T: The preliminary broadcast ratings for night one of the Democratic National Convention are a little higher than those of the Republican National Convention: The DNC clocked in with 10.54 million total viewers as compared to the RNC at 10.1 million viewers, Variety reports.

O/T: Trump Is Failing at Political Math

Stuart Stevens, chief strategist for Mitt Romney in 2012, tells the Washington Post that Donald Trump isn’t building a winning coalition.

Said Stevens: “Hillary will have Bernie Sanders, the Obamas, Elizabeth Warren, who has been elevated to star status by Donald Trump, and Joe Biden. Who will be campaigning with Donald Trump that has a large constituency?”

He added: “The essence of politics is about addition, not subtraction. Donald Trump finds it very hard for any given moment not to be about Donald Trump, which makes coalition building and the blocking and tackling of politics more difficult. If you’re in a fight with the Republican governor of Ohio and the Hispanic governor of New Mexico, how can you expect to build a broader coalition?”

O/T: Political Wire reports on the NY Times story about the Russian connection with the DNC emails leak! The Times story says not a WORD about Trump’s financial connections with the Russians, BUT a few of the posters in the comments understand Trump’s finances since his 2004 bankruptcy well enough to want to see his TAX RETURNS to see how much in hock he is to Putin and his henchmen!!

    mikemiller56 • 7 hours ago
So I have heard that Donald is on the hook for $300,000,000 to Putin’s friends.
    TAX Returns please.

Another poster–like a story on electoral-vote.com–mentions some of the mails were ALTERED:

    me987654 jgrillo • 4 hours ago
Actually some of the e-mails were doctored by the Russians (they found cyrillic metadata in several of the documents)… not sure how many or how widespread

Other posters don’t seem aware of how much Trump’s business empire depends on RUSSIAN capital to remain afloat.

Some speculate that the Democrats are waiting until after the convention to renew demands for his tax returns, especially because of his dependency on Russian capital.

    https://politicalwire.com/2016/07/26/is-putin-trying-to-meddle-in-the-u-s-election/#disqus_thread

Manafort and many others in Trump’s campaign also have extensive financial ties to Russia!!

  • Lakeview Bob

ME, ME, ME, ME! Can you see my hand in the air!

  • Robert Heikkila

saw her in 94 and paid a small fortune that was well worth it – still the greates star by far as the song goes

  • Derrick Johns

My first memories of Streisand were in the mid-1960s. I probably saw her on the Judy Garland Show in 1963, but I can’t remember.
Growing up in North Philly you’d think that my divas would have been Diana Ross and Queen Aretha. Well, they were eventually were, but Garland and Streisand were my divas at the time. I was a little queen–still am.
As time went on I recognized Streisand’s natural talent as an actress. Although I don’t think I could sit “The Way We Were” again. She and Redford were wonderful but the film wasn’t.
And then she showed her ability as a filmmaker with “Yental” “Prince of Tides” and …well, the one were she was crazy and Lauren Becall was her mother.
All in all, Streisand is one of the greatest American talents ever, a national treasure.
And I don’t want to win the tickets. I swear I don’t. I’m not going up to New York in this type of summer weather. Tell Babs to change the concert to November. I’ll go then.

  • Vermeercat

For hubby’s 50th, 14 years ago, I replaced all of his vinyl Barbra albums with CDs (since we didn’t have a functional turntable anymore) each one individually wrapped. Saw her in Las Vegas at Y2K too.

  • TJay229

    OMigawd!
    Omidawd!
    Omigawd!

Pick me, pick me… I love, and I do mean LOVE Babs. It’s just two stops from my house. I can be there in a flash.

  • Alan

    Entering.

  • Baby Dave

I’ve never really understood how Babs became so popular with out community. When I was a kid, I saw movies like Yentl and Nuts repeatedly (and sang “Papa Can You See Me” when everyone else was into whatever was on the radio), so its not like I ever thought she was bad at music, film, or art in general. She’s really talented.

However, she bought the film rights to Larry Kramer’s The Normal Heart during he peak of the AIDS crisis and then refused to produce the film for three decades. HBO finally rendered a TV movie of it, long after it could do any good. That film needed to be seen in theaters back when it could have changed hearts and minds. Releasing it as a TV show after everyone was already sympathetic to HIV+ people was an ineffective use of a powerful piece of art.

I mean, if we’re going o shower her with money and adoration, shouldn’t we demand some reciprocity?

    • She gives a huge amount to real charities including LGBT causes. https://www.looktothestars.org/celebrity/barbra-streisand She is a key backer of this. dhttps://www.looktothestars.org/charity/american-foundation-for-equal-rights

      • Baby Dave

That’s pretty awesome. I still wish she’d have made the damn movie, but that is pretty cool.

      • Derrick Johns

Well, now, Eddi, we need to ask Larry Kramer has he always been a friend of other Gay folks. Let’s go back to the 1970s and before.

    • Here is how Barbara responded to Larry’s accusations in 2011. It looks to me like she has a legitimate defense Baby Dave “When I saw the play in 1985 I was very moved and immediately contacted Larry to acquire the rights. I worked for ten years, without pay, trying to get it made. After going through several drafts with Larry, I hired a writer to develop a screenplay that was faithful to Larry’s play, adapting it to make it more cinematic. But Larry refused to accept any revisions and insisted we use his screenplay. I couldn’t get any studio to commit to his version. Many fine actors were ready to commit to our version, but Larry would not allow it. “When Larry now says I rewrote the script in order to make the woman doctor the star, marginalizing the gay characters, he is rewriting history. My objective was not to be in this movie. I only wanted to direct it and I was willing to play the doctor only if that would help get it made.
“Eventually, when it became clear that we couldn’t raise the money to do it as a film, I thought, all right, we’ll do it on TV. At least it would reach a wide audience. But even HBO would only pay Larry $250,000 for the rights, and he would not let it go forward for anything less than $1,000,000. No studio was willing to move on it, considering the controversial subject matter and the burden of that cost.http://www.playbill.com/article/barbra-streisand-issues-statement-regarding-normal-heart-film-com-178984

      • Baby Dave

Larry’s a difficult man to get along with. Still, he is a vital force, and many of us would not be alive today if it weren’t for him.

        • Baby Dave, I don’t know enough about the situation but I know Larry Kramer is a hero. I think they both have suffered much from this. It seems Barbara was genuinely hurt. She is not that easy to deal with either from what I have heard.

          • Baby Dave

Artists of all kinds tend to have sensitive egos. Especially the brilliant ones. That goes for both Babs and Larry.

That said, if I ever meet Larry Kramer in person, I will never be able to thank him enough.

  • Pick me! I spent my formative years singing “Sadie Sadie Married Lady!” in the shower — Dad’s best friend Uncle Dave once heard me singing this and bought me a shiny new baseball glove which I have, unused, in tawny calfskin leather to this day! I faux painted my dining room wall in San Francisco once to match it. (this is all true!)

  • MikeBoston

I’d be happy to take the tickets off your hands.

  • gary

I first saw Barbara at Solider’s Field in Chicago when she was very pregnant with Jason, August 1966. At intermission she got her hair cut by Fred Glaser, Chicago hairstylist, and re-appeared in her signature look for the next decade. Hard to believe it was 50 years ago. Love to see her again.

I’d love to see her in concert!

  • jo gerardo

I remember being dragged to a Diana Ross concert in Houston. I was ready to leave after the first couple of songs. I even cruised the bathrooms and found them empty. I thought of all those poor guys holding their pee until after the show so as not to miss a single song. I gave up and went back to my seat right when she had everyone in the audience get up and wave their arms to a song. I ran outside the arena and smoked a joint with some chauffeurs. I spent hours crying in a dope fog trying to find my ride. I vowed to never attend another Greatest Hits show. They’d have to Hannibal me to a board and set me up with a pair of eyelid spreaders. After which I would pay some creepy guy in Coke bottle glasses to nail rail spikes thru my eye sockets.

Babsy should merch a string of dolls with her diff hairstyles. I’d hold out for the Afro Barbara. I’d def want the Afro Barbie.

  • Mark Ross

    Would love this.

  • Matt P

I love Babs & I will skip my gay band practice that night to attend this concert!!! <3 <3 <3

  • Someone You Dont Know

  • 2guysnamedjoe

I don’t think I was an overly cynical 13 year old, but I distinctly remember rolling my eyes and saying “oh, please” to myself the first time I heard People on the radio. I’ve made a point of ignoring Babs for the last half-century. A pair of free tickets could induce me to re-visit La Babs.

  • Rocco Gibraltar

I guess I could sell them on eBay. One of the few gays who does not worship at the altar of Babs.

    • TuuxKabin

El husbian and I are with you. We’ll raffle them off here as freebies, to whoever can answer three riddles.

Barbara’s “Stoney End” was hot when I went to my first gay bar in Birmingham, Al ! The bar was The Other Side”…I was in the 11th grade…friends got me in the bar…we drove from Tuscaloosa for the night. I was wearing a long sleeve red puffy shirt ( the rage then…LOL) white pants, white belt, and maybe white shoes. My family had moved up to Tuscaloosa from Lakeland, Fl. I was a beach kid, now in the land of cotton fields…Thank God we lived in a university town! Anyway, danced to her song with another hot man, and knew “I was home!”

As a fourth-generation Brooklynite, I can’t tell you how I would kvell to see you live, in our native borough, mommeleh. From the time I was a small child to this very day, your music has been like mother’s milk to me. It would be an honor and a pleasure to see in person the singer who has inspired, entertained and thrilled me my entire life.

And this me before your Sunrise Concerts ten years ago!
