Ted Cruz BOOED Off The Stage At GOP Convention After Refusing To Endorse Donald Trump [VIDEO]

Definitely the best moment of this entire four-day Nuremberg Rally. ABC News recaps:

Ted Cruz just became the first primetime speaker of this Republican convention to be booed off the stage.

The Texas senator mentioned Donald Trump’s name just once during his Republican convention speech — and it wasn’t even an endorsement.

“I want to congratulate Donald Trump on winning the nomination last night,” the Texas senator said, addressing the Cleveland gathering on its third evening. “And like each of you, I want to see the principles that our party believes prevail in November.”

And then Cruz, whose primary battle with Trump turned increasingly bitter when the billionaire businessman attacked Cruz’s wife and his father, pivoted to this: “Conventions are times of excitement. But given the events of the last few weeks, I hope you’ll allow me a moment to talk to you about what’s really at stake.”

When delegates from New York loudly urged Cruz from the convention floor to “say it” — referring to endorsing Trump — the Texas senator only responded: “I appreciate the enthusiasm of the New York delegation.” Cruz then exited to loud booing from the crowd.

Snort ……………..so much for setting himself up for his 2020 run. Ha Ha

I was thinking the same thing. If he was planning on a long term springboard, he just killed his chances.

Or maybe he sees the GOP completely falling apart in to 2 pieces

            It’s a spectacularly weird week.

            I’m loving it.

Now I can’t wait until the postmortem when Trump loses. Oh, it will be SO great when the conservatives decide, once again, that the reason they lost was not–as could never be the case–that the American electorate rejects their anachronistic and indefensible “philosophy,” but rather that their candidate “wasn’t conservative enough.”

          • Gene

            I am loving this also…
AND I am calling friends, donating money, working with voter registration, and trying to help down ticket candidates.
this is (AS EXPECTED!) gonna be close (anyone who said it would not be close is NOT paying attention to the mood of the rethuglican frightened sheep electorate)…

this has been, so far, a clusterfuck of a convention, and she is still the heavy favorite, but…its not over till its over.
One thing is sure. I am thankful to senator slimeball from Texas. That was a GIFT to the Clinton campaign
but Trump is no fool, and can if he wants read a prepared speech. its tonight that matters. a bad convention, but, its far from over though, and we CANNOT be complacent

          • cleos_mom

Even if it should turn out that the Clinton-Trump voting numbers are 80/20, we have to assume that it’s a tie or worse. Anything else could get us Trump’s absentee Presidency and Pence’s choices for SCOTUS.

          • Duane Dimitrov

            Agreed.

Republicans always come out and vote.

Remember, for example, 2010, the most important election no progressive voted in.

We all elected Obama two years earlier. And were so happy with ourselves we took 2010 off and what happened? The GOP gerrymandered the fuck out of the electoral map.

And how did they do that? Oh, that’s right, they–as usual–scared every moron susceptible to their garbage rhetoric (I’m looking at you, Grandma!) into voting for them!

Their confusion and fear is what concerns me.

That’s an everyday occurence, though. Being Ted Cruz’ children isn’t something I’d wish upon anyone. Except Donny Trump.

    • Sporkfighter

In this case, the enemy of your enemy is still your enemy.

    • CPT_Doom

It’s so much better than that – You can hate both Cruz and Trump. Trump for being a useless con man and Cruz for being a big enough dick to go to the convention and refuse to endorse. Cruz didn’t make a principled stand like Kasich or Flake, and he didn’t fall in line either. Instead, he decide to use Trump’s nominating convention to give his first speech of 2020, with only the level of extreme smarminess he can manage.

      • “Mange” is perfect! Please don’t go back and change it. LOL.

      • Thorn Spike

Cruz won’t be any more likable or electable in 2020. Or ever. Same goes for Rubio.

      • CPT_Doom

        They’re incompetent.

      • That_Looks_Delicious

Most other well-known Republican figures refused to even attend, so even getting Cruz to show up was probably their biggest organizational feat of the convention.

        • robirob

And he just turned up to spit on Trump and his followers. That’s hilarious.

      • Traxley Launderette

They’re so blinded by raw rage and ego they don’t know what the hell they’re doing.

    • Todd20036

I think Cruz just blew his chances at 2020.

      • BearEyes

        I hope you’re right.
Major faux pas on his part though he couldn’t really give a shit

      • clay

Yep, they’re definitely going to primary his ass.

        • B Snow

          Good.

      • robirob

I still believe that the GOP is preparing for cleaning up their act and getting rid of the Tea-Party folk after the most likely defeat of Trump. And Ted Cruz might very well be their golden boy of what remains of the GOP in 2020 whilte the Tea Party demographic will be another Green Party like fringe group and sooner or later the Trump and Tea Party supporters will crawl back to the GOP when they see that without the GOP they’ll not have the media coverage that keeps the bigoted Trump and Tea Party courage up only to be told that they may join the GOP but thave to keep themselves in check and not flaunt their bigotry as they do now.

        • B Snow

The Republican party lost control of the Tea Party a few years back, and now, with Trump’s nomination, there’s nothing the GOP can do to threaten or cajole them into behaving like decent human beings. The Tea Party can get media coverage on their own, because we Americans love car crashes and the People of Walmart.

Repubilcans will either have to admit they’ve created a home for bigots or split off and become more traditionally conservative, which means a smaller tent.

I’m not crying over either of those scenarios.

          • robirob

The problem though is that it’s the GOP that pretty much owns the media we have now. You barely hear or see anything about what the members of the Green Party do for example. I could see that the media would ignore the Tea Party if their GOP overlords tell them to do so.

          • B Snow

I see your point, but I’m not sure the GOP has that much control over the media. Especially when the Tea Party is doing something outrageous that gets ratings.

          • robirob

Ratings and their shenanigans also rallied the bigoted troops the GOP considered their demographic. I think that will change after Trump loses at least for a couple of years.

          • B Snow

            I hope so!

  • CPT_Doom

Reporting now is that the Trump campaign knew Cruz wouldn’t endorse, and threatened him that they’d arrange booing if he didn’t. IOW they created the clusterf*ck. Exactly the level of competence I’d expect from this band of political Keystone Cops.

(2) The lack of respect for others – the product of years of fomentation by Fox “News”. (3) The fact that GOPers haven’t realized the source of their pent up anger is due to the failure of more than three decades of trickle-down economics.

    • MarkBuster

Which scares me, because angry desperate people filled with hate do NOT tend to be be good in the world.

    • another_steve

Excellent analysis. But your comment reflects a sub-expected brain-alcohol content.

Are you sufficiently juiced up, MB?

    • B Snow

      This x 1000.

  • TrollopeReader

Well, they passed 11pm and the “prime time” slot .. and Pence is still speaking ….

    • another_steve

      I haven’t been watching.

Have any of the Trump boys shown their dicks?

      • TrollopeReader

no, but a cute msnbc reporter seemed to reporting “commando” style yesterday ….

        • another_steve

MSNBC apparently attached electrodes to their focus groups’ brains and determined that the masses want cute male reporters and anchors.

These days, my porn flick favorites consist of a lot less than the average MSNBC reporter/anchor.

      • bob

I think they got their dad’s dick , mom’s was bigger

          Was mom’s dick plagiarized?

I almost feel sorry for you Ted for the amount of negative attention you are going to receive. But you also said that gay people are protected by the bill of rights, ironic given that you’ve been the biggest opponent of LGBT rights. claiming that christians are persecuted by not being able to deny services to ANYONE in name of their religious beliefs, as well as attending the Kevin Swanson event where he called for the execution of gay people because the bible said so. So in other words, you deserve the humiliation and anger being rained upon you now, but now well go directly back to making sure that Hillary Rodham Clinton, a TRUE crusader of social rights will succeed Obama, come January 2017.

    HAHAHAH!!! (blows rasperry)

“…the best moment of this entire four-day Nuremberg Rally.”

As always, Boyfriend Joe sums it up succinctly and well.

  • Yixing’s Fluffer

Cruz gave them a fake speech and nobody had the balls to cut him off once he veered off course. Honestly, I’m disappointed in Manafort – what dictator will want him now?

    • clay

Perhaps they were confused– they killed the screens, not the mic?

      • Yixing’s Fluffer

From what I’m reading now, it’s even more insane. Either they knew and Trump/Manafort told them to go ahead because they wanted the video of the convention hall booing him, or they didn’t even bother to read the speech Cruz gave them and Manafort rushed out to tell people to boo and told Trump to run out to steal the cameras.

The Trump Campaign is so unbelievably dumb it defies all reasoning. It’s actually dangerous to contemplate the possibilities because the human brain can’t handle this much stupid. An orangutan brain, on the other hand…

          • Tuesday evening at dinner I asked my dyed-in-the-wool Republican father — who has never voted for a Democrat but has vowed to vote for Hillary — if, when Trump started his campaign, he ever thought it would really get as far as Trump being their nominee. He said, “No, and I will never forgive the Republican party for giving him the nomination.”

I was in 1st or 2nd grade. I didn’t really know what the president did, but I was awfully upset that he’d been killed.

I have a vague memory, possibly false, of being at home with my mother watching TV with her while she ironed, at the exact moment Ruby shot Oswald live and on camera and on our TV screen.

        • cleos_mom

That was a Sunday morning and we’d just got home from church when my mom turned on the TV — just a second or two before she saw someone get shot and killed. Later I was grateful I wasn’t in the room at the time.

One of the more surreal things to me from this convention has been the times before business started. • John30013

I don’t know… Cruz’ support clearly comes from the religious conservative part of the GOP base; those people are holding their noses in “supporting” Hair Drumpf.

Now the “angry white men” who are Drumpf’s true base–they will tar and feather Cruz for his apostasy tonight. But in four years (especially if Drumpf loses–and then let’s make that eight years), who knows? They’ll either be dead or their little pea brains will have forgotten Cruz’ dissing of the Donald.

      • PLAINTOM

Possibly not if Trump is elected and impeached within the first year.

It took the combined power of Newt’s “explanations”, the (ugly) son’s “daddy” speech, AND the (vice)Presidential nominee’s, homey, slow, over-acted self-intro to even begin to draw the attention back to where it belongs, Tru— I mean the GOP.

  • Steven B

He advised them vote their conscience. The very same thing that Speaker Ryan said. Why are they booing Cruz but not Ryan? #hypocrites.

    • Because Ryan said to vote for Trump.

    • Circ09

      Because Ryan has endorsed Trump.

      • Steven B

point made. But that means that Ryan is lying either when he advises the delegates to vote their conscience or when he endorsed Trump.

        • AJ Drew

um, exactly… thus Ryan was playing by the GOP rule book. Cruz… not so much.

        • Circ09

Yessss. But living in GOP land allows for that kind of hand-wave. It’s magic.

    • Dramphooey

Who cares as long as they’re booing Cruz?

  • safari

Ladies and gentlemen. Remain calm. I am making a strawberry shortcake for myself to enjoy as I read the responses from the intertubes. Stand by. I want to savor this.

  • Consul52

This shit show is finally getting really interesting. The last few days have been filled with so much controversy. I wonder if they can film this for a reality show? Oh wait it’s been done before.

  • Excellent. Good ol’ showboat Ted. Took a mallet to the fragile facade of unity. All in his own long -term self interest of course, but it will drive the Trumpers mad.

  • Cuberly

Holy shit folks, twitter is blowing up. Grifterbee is going off on Cruz now. And pretty much every other GOP primary “candidate” (cough..grifter) is doing the same.

    Popcorn for breakfast?

    • Stubenville

      Kellogg’s Corn Pops perhaps?

      • Cuberly

        That works.

  • Hunter M

Cruz is an obstructionist. He’s never done anything positive in his life, only obstructed those who were trying to get something done. Why they thought he’d do something positive is beyond reason. He acted just like I expected. Like a spoiled brat GOPer.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Well, after you’ve shut down the federal government a few times, what’s to stop you attempting to shut down a convention?

      • Hunter M

He’s doing exactly what he’s always been doing. Boy they are stupid as fuck for thinking he’d endorse tRump.

        • clay

There’s a reason the other senators hate him.

The “true conservative”– no forward motion on any front.

  • Cruz is a wild and wooly gambler. He is gambling he will be golden when Trump goes to jail for fraud.

  • INFIGHTING IS FUCKING WAGNERIAN RIGHT NOW. GOPPERDAMMERUNG

    • Bryan

      Where’s the immolation.

      • The gasbags haven’t exploded yet.

      • clay

I think it was Marah Liason on NPR, too late in the day for Cokie Roberts, said Cruz lit a fire on the middle of the stage. I think that was a polite way to say Cruz shit a turd in the middle of their stage.

    • Avenger280
    • Craig Howell

I prefer to spell it “Goddamnnittall.” Either works.

  • Lazycrockett

    Great Real Time.

  • Michael Abbett

Nicole Wallace sitting there trying to spin Cruz’ lack of endorsement and the boos as rallying people behind Trump. LOL. Is she too politically inept to realize Cruz just told his supporters to sit this one out? Gobsmacking.

    • Circ09

No, Trump people just think they can ignore reality and convince people to do the same. I’m not sure she is wrong about that at this point.

      • Funniest “you gotta be fucking with us” moment came when Gingrich appeared next and tried to convince the entire world that Cruz’s lack of endorsement and failure to say Trump’s name more than once and recommendation to “vote your conscience” was actually an endorsement.

        • AJ Drew

Yup. What I heard him saying was “Fuck Trump, vote Hillary and democratic full-ticket.” I do think he’s pissed off enough to have actually meant that, but it’s probably just me projecting, just a bit.

    • Bryan

It’s okay, I don’t understand anything Steve Schmidt is saying either. He’s talking about football.

  • anne marie in philly

bwhahahahahahaha! infighting is fun; hope the popcorn supply holds out!

    • DaddyRay

The RNC Convention is really a plot to support the corn industry

      • anne marie in philly

I read that as “a plot to support the porn industry”

        • AJ Drew

eh, corn, coal, porn… it’s all ripe with potential.

        • DaddyRay

          • anne marie in philly

            CORNY! 🙂

  • johncAtl

Who is this idiot woman talking on CNN supporting Cruz?

    • That_Looks_Delicious

Today, unlike almost any other day, he deserves support.

  • JCF

      Now you’re just gloating!

    • Stubenville

Are those tiny hands Spongebob is eating?

  • DaddyRay

    Mark Cuban on Colbert

  • Cuberly

Sigh…the convention was a slasher flick, alas, with a surprise ending.

And it officially ended 3 days in.

    Seriously, this was HUGE.

When would have I ever been pleased with Cruz’ narcissistic tendencies. Well, today. Surprise!

  • safari

The memes are flowing like ambrosia

    • Bryan

At this rate, memes are about the only thing Cruz and Trump deserve.

      • William

They should receive the home game of ‘Election’.

    • Lazycrockett

They could have at least tried to get more folks to watch in the background.

Chris Matthews is an asshole. And a racist. Just saying. I can’t fucking stand that asshole. I don’t know why anyone thinks he’s progressive.

Candidate for photo of the year: The Trump clan’s faces at that moment.

    • Cuberly

OMG Trump Jr’s face was AWESOME. He wanted to rip out Cruz’ heart and scream Galimaaaa, Galimaaaa!!!!!

      • johncAtl

But look how much bigger his hands are than his fathers’.

        • Assuming Donald Trump actually is their father…

        • NowVoyager

That only proves that Jr. was either a foundling or the other Mrs. Trump had somebody else’s bun in the oven.

Edit 3: Doesn’t work on Safari on iOS either. I think it’s Twitter’s problem.

I really don’t know what to think about this. On the one hand, they booed Cruz. On the other hand, they picked Trump. It’s a world gone mad.

  • safari

Well, let’s see how the Freepers are holding up. Oh, dear.

  • PLAINTOM

Cruz, the chosen candidate of the professional hate groups, just told right wing evangelicals not to vote for the GOP candidate for President. Tony Perkins must be having a total mental breakdown. You heard it on national TV, God’s anointed candidate just said don’t vote for Trump.

    • NZArtist

To be fair, nuance, inference and context are completely lost on the crowd in that room anyway.

      • AJ Drew

and yet they “got” it… a, um, dog-whistle to the left? (Until 2020, of course, when Cruz will rule the planet.)

  • Grimes

God, I hope Bernie’s speech is well vetted before and he sticks to his and again endorses her. He’s said it before, but as I’ve noticed in this election season when we’ve hoped for a GOP meltdown we nearly took our eye off the Democratic primary and it nearly melted.

    • 1Truth1

Bernie has too much class to do that. He isn’t a spiteful man. He’s passionate, but not stupid.

    • Treant

I think we can assume that somebody will be sitting on the kill switch.

Although it’s probably not necessary. He gots him some campaign debt, and he’s a-gonna need the big boys’ help cleaning it up.

Cruz had a (foolish) motive to do this. I don’t see that Sanders still does.

Competent Dem? We don’t even have a functioning Democratic Party in Texas! So that means no money to compete for the seat either.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

I’m pissed that a 50 state strategy doesn’t exist. At least make the GOP burn some money and not just slide right in.

The GOP is obsessed with them, in their minds it’s LAW.

  • Ben in Oakland

It doesn’t sound like he was booed off the stage, only that he was booed while leaving.

Paul Ryan only mentioned Trumpelstiltskin twice.

    • johncAtl

      He was booed.

    • It wasn’t that he was ‘booed off the stage’. People began booing Cruz about halfway through his speech when the collective GOP hive mind began to realize he wasn’t ever going to say Trump or endorse him.

      • Cuberly

Yep, from the start of his speech it was apparent Cruz had a captive audience. And from go, his speech was about Cruz, sure was fuck wasn’t going to be about Trump.

        Hahahahahahahaha…..

      • I’m glad to hear they were booing him so much. From listening on the radio (without the benefit of any visuals) while driving it was hard to tell any of that noise the crowd was making was boos until the very end. Up until then it sounded like an angry mob going wild in support of what Cruz was saying and that was pretty disturbing.

    • AJ Drew

Well, he wasn’t exactly booed off stage, but the “booing” and chanting of “endorse Trump” started fairly early into his speech, yet he smugly persevered. So… yay or not so much? meh, he’s still a smarmy arse, but he didn’t cave.

      • Ben in Oakland

Do you mean to say that sCruz actually stood for something that wasn’t an hors d’ouevres or a check with a lot of zeroes?

An interesting footnote, from the Atlantic:

In an interview he gave in the afternoon, which was published as Mike Pence delivered his acceptance speech, Trump offered a string of remarkable statements. He said that America shouldn’t lecture Turkey—currently purging its military and bureaucracy of dissidents—until it solves its own problems at home. And he had this to say about the NATO alliance, a lynchpin of American security and the internal order for half a century:

Asked about Russia’s threatening activities that have unnerved the small Baltic States that are the most recent entrants into NATO, Mr. Trump said that if Russia attacked them, he would decide whether to come to their aid only after reviewing whether those nations “have fulfilled their obligations to us.”

    • AJ Drew

      Yikes. Just… yikes.

      • coram nobis

There’s also this about Sen. Ron Johnson lying about Hillary and Benghazi during a convention speech.

        https://theintercept.com/2016/07/20/accuse-hillary-clinton-dishonesty-benghazi-senator-ron-johnson-lies/

“Ladies and gentlemen, ‘What difference, at this point, does it make?’” Johnson began, quoting Clinton’s exasperated comment to him during a 2013 Senate committee hearing on her handling of the deadly attack on the American diplomatic and intelligence compound in Benghazi, Libya, the year before.

“I am the guy that got under her skin and provoked that infamous response from Hillary Clinton,” Johnson continued, “by asking a pretty simple question: ‘Why didn’t you just pick up the phone and call the survivors?’”

        What she actually said, was,

JOHNSON: … we were misled that there were supposedly protests and that something sprang out of that — an assault sprang out of that — and that was easily ascertained that that was not the fact, and the American people could have known that within days, and they didn’t know that.

CLINTON: With all due respect, the fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided that they’d they go kill some Americans? What difference at this point does it make? It is our job to figure out what happened and do everything we can to prevent it from ever happening again, senator.

        • AJ Drew

Yes, I was annoyed at the mis-quote about “what difference does it make?” Because in the original context she was correct, no matter one’s political bent.

          • coram nobis

She was correct, and he was lying through his teeth to the convention. Amazing how you can say anything on that podium and have it swallowed whole.

          • AJ Drew

well, only if what one said played to that crowd… case in point, Cruz’s speech. But, back to Benghazi (!) yes, it was shamefully played by Newt.

          • Circ09

The media is too busy interviewing Chachi over the c word and Manafort over lifted speeches. You know, the important bits.

        • Lumpy Gaga

Now that a court has put the kibosh on voter ID in WI this November, the Kochs coincidentally announce that they are pulling $2.2mil in TV advertising for Johnson’s bid for Senate.

        • cleos_mom

That was instructive. I’d never even heard of the “infamous response.”

    • Circ09

Now we are breaking the NATO charter? Most Trump voters equate NATO with EU and the UN. So I guess it doesn’t matter to them. LOL.

      • coram nobis

        Eisenhower wept.

        • Circ09

I doubt Eisenhower has stopped spinning in his grave yet over the Bush years.

          • coram nobis

Yes. In this case, however, it’s worth remembering that Ike was the first NATO supreme commander before he went on to the presidency.

          • clay

and warned us as he left of the military-industrial complex.

    • AJ Drew

NATO, EU, UN, just rules and regulations to Trump, why “artfully deal” with them at all?

      • coram nobis

Yes, and if Russia gobbles up Estonia, I suppose that:
        (1) if Obama responds, the GOP willl oppose any response or
        (2) if Trump is president, he’ll just shrug it off.

        • AJ Drew

Would Trump just shrug it off, or would he (passively) support it?

          • coram nobis

Hm. Probably both. That Art. V thingy in the NATO treaty isn’t vague about requiring a response if a member is attacked. We invoked it after 9/11 but if we blow it off now, it will make Europe think twice about us, to say the least.

    • Lazycrockett

He would love to throw NATO under the bus to give his hero Putin full reign over eastern Europe.

      • Circ09

Well, the proposed oil pipeline through Turkey the US & UK wanted is now not likely to happen. So that leaves Putin for Europe’s energy needs. Trump can make the deal for them. He’s so “artful”.

        • coram nobis

Question now is whether we can get our people and weapons out of Incirlik — never mind using as a base for operations against ISIS. Donald would probably cheer Erdogan on.

          • Circ09

But wherever will they put the missile shield now?

          • coram nobis

Romania. Another NATO ally. For this administration, anyway.

        • Lazycrockett

I guess those Muslims will be allowed in the country.

I was so upset when I first read your post, CN, that I was unable to respond.

This man, Mr. “Law and Order,” Mr. “I’ll defend the entire Constitution,” is clearly considering the possibility of PURGES–hinting at them–if he’s elected to the presidency. He thinks being elected POTUS would give him the mandate to VIOLATE the Rule of Law, to lock up or otherwise “eliminate” his political opponents. (I will leave aside, for the MOMENT, his willingness to violate TREATY OBLIGATIONS to ALLIES.)

I am overwhelmed by emotion, torn between terror and FURY.

This EVIL son of a BITCH is playing to his party’s base, to those we’ve seen in stories here on JMG where they talk of “shooting the current government to preserve what’s left of the Constitution.”

This is SEDITION–a direct threat to the Rule of LAW.

The media have to throw off this perverted notion of “impartiality” which they PRETEND to believe means they cannot call out lies and distortions, obvious extremism and now EVEN threats to our democratic form of government, that their profession means they must remain neutral even when one side in a conflict or dispute is clearly lying, distorting the truth and/or proposing dangerous, extreme or ILLEGAL policies or solutions to problems, when one side is clearly IN THE WRONG.

They MUST hold him and ANY in his party who support him in these views ACCOUNTABLE!!

We saw an interview with the anchor of CNN International last night, and she said–and one would HOPE this was OBVIOUS–that it is the duty of journalists to get at the TRUTH, not to be neutral when someone is demonstrably LYING or suggesting measures that are clearly dangerous, extreme or ILLEGAL (I extrapolate this second point from her first one, but am certain she would agree with me). Neutrality, rather than truth-seeking, leads to false equivalencies, she said, to treating arguments based on falsehoods with the same respect one would those based on FACTS, to treating wild, extreme or unconstitutional proposals with the same respect and consideration one would those which respect the LAW and the widely accepted tenets of modern, enlightened DEMOCRACY.

Politicians–Democrats AND Republicans–as well as journalists must call him OUT on this and hold him ACCOUNTABLE!!

    • billbear1961

I also saw an online article a while back which said that Manafort–who has advised tyrants–was in Russia recently, trashing the U.S. and praising Russia and Putin.

When will the mainstream media get hold of THAT and start reporting on it??

Failing action by those almost USELESS bastards, when will the Democrats bring it to people’s attention?

Manafort repeatedly LIED about the plagiarism scandal, and, like his goddamned boss, he LOVES tyrants.

Public pressure from all quarters should DEMAND he be FIRED!!

I’ll be excoriated here but they remind me a bit of the E Street Band.

It’s official! There’s no one left on Earth that Ted Cruz won’t stab in the back.

    • Stubenville

      (Except himself.)

    • Bryan

Or Trump gave him rope to hang himself.

    • AJ Drew

The look on TD Jr’s face suggesting some potential wanna stabbing…

    • lymis

But hey, apparently, if you aim him in the right direction, good things can get accomplished. Can we aim him at McConnell or Ryan, too?

  • Stubenville

Waiting for Hillary, Obama or the gays to get blamed…

    Lovin FLOTUS on James Corden

Watching the footage of Cruz and then Trump coming out of the shadows. I want to know who that big tall and very handsome Asian guy is who Trump has as a body guard. Him handsome. I want.

    • Lazycrockett

I wanna know who gave Cruz his spine back, cause that pissed everyone off.

      • Octavio

I’m just happy he was booed off stage. That was fun.

By the way, Don Lemon on CNN just announced that he’s a black gay man on TV and thinks things are much better in ‘Mericuh today and in earlier times. And he’s sitting next to Billy Baldwin who seems to approve. Hmmmmm . . . .

        • Lazycrockett

          watching it also

        • AJ Drew

But Cruz was NOT booed off stage. He kept going despite the fairly early start of the booing and chants of “endorse Trump.” I don’t think that showed his spine, but it definitely showed his resolute spite… good or bad? Eh…

          • Octavio

Yet they continued to boo as he left the stage. Sixes versus half a dozen. 😉

      • Octavio

I don’t think he got a spine back. He never had one. But he’s always been an arrogant piece of shit who thinks his jesus grifting makes him superior to everyone else. Face it. The man is a complete human failure.

    • AJ Drew

and yet, no backlighting nor fog machine, so… fail!

      • Octavio

What’s back lighting or fog machine have to do with the chunky huncklicious handsome Asian body guard. Focus.

I’d willingly have his wife get a good lickin’ (fisticuffs, mind you) but I figure being married to him is punitive enough.

  • Lazycrockett

..and pence never trended tonight but Cruz is still going strong.

  • RJ Bone

Wow. Should I be…happy? Upset? Confused?

    I mean… wow.

Doesn’t matter – still don’t like or trust any of them 🙂

  • ImRike

Ted Cruz is one of my least favorite people in this world, but I do respect him for this!

    • Dot Beech

Why? There is no reason to ever respect Ted Cruz. If it was a matter of conscience that guided his speech, he should have declined the speaking invitation and released a statement fully explaining his choice to do so. But there are television cameras involved, and Ted Cruz is not one to pass up a television camera.

Cruz used his speech to start his 2020 campaign. Hardly a principled choice worthy of respect. He was setting himself up for the biggest ever “I told you so. If you had listened to me, the One True Conservative, etc., etc.” The more he got booed, the greater his martyrdom, the greater the supposed pain he supposedly suffered, and the greater the proof of his fealty to conservatism.

But Trump, in a well played move, upstaged him. Instead of a martyr, Cruz is looking the fool today. He will work to salvage his point, but he got shat on big time. Don’t mess with New York, Texan.

      • Tigernan Quinn

So you see someone’s ONE line opinion and you decided that, no, they have to THINK YOUR WAY with three paragraphs. Okay.

      • Mark

Have to agree. Cruz was there to endorse Cruz….and they called him on it. nasty break…..

      • lymis

Umm.. we all know he hates Trump. But he didn’t denounce Trump. He talked about mom-and-apple-pie things like caring about your country and voting Republican up and down ticket.

Just what is it that you think he said that he should have avoided the convention rather than say?

Look, I think he’s slime, and I think he’s self-serving and evil. But essentially, this is saying, not that he was stealing the spotlight, but that if he wasn’t going to hoist a toast with the Kool-Aid and then drink it publicly, he shouldn’t have been a part of the convention. They asked him to speak. So he’s supposed to let them stick an arm up his ass and work him like a sock monkey the way Ryan did?

I DO NOT respect Ted Cruz for pretty much anything. But I certainly won’t condemn him for accepting the invitation to speak and then saying only positive things, when absolutely everyone knows how much he loathes Trump. If they didn’t want exactly what they got, the campaign should never have invited him.

      • ImRike

Well, I dislike him enough not to try to read his mind, too. But maybe I should put it a bit differently: I don’t really respect Ted Cruz, but I respect his making the decision not to support Trump.

    No SCOTUS for Teddy!!!

MSNBC was spewing yesterday (Who else but Chucky Todd) that he would be received as the christianist’s hero and welcomed with open bony, fleshy arms. Is Todd right about anything?

Rachel was of course right and funny at the same time.

  • saucetin

I bet he didn’t even get a BJ from Heidi after that, much less a reach-around from Trump. Lose-lose-lose. [sad trombone]

  • j.martindale

Don’t be looking for much of a convention bounce for tRump. Heh, heh.

  • Reality.Bites

I actually called this yesterday as a delicious “what-if” that I never thought would happen

  • greenmanTN

When someone who thinks Earth should be Planet Jesus says you’re dangerous, you can take that to the bank.

I’d rather discuss the phallus implications of corndogs with Marcus Bachmann than vote for Trump!

    • KnownDonorDad

I think it’s more that Sen. Stillson Cruz is sad he won’t be the one to send the missiles flying.

  • TuuxKabin

Hope nobody minds: I’ve been copying and pasting, as a list, my favorite comments from you Flying Monkeys, and putting them in an email to send far and wide as ‘my favorite reactions, and comments, from JMG. If people get half as much enlightenment and entertainment from them as I do, I’ll feel like I’ve accomplished a bit of good cheer out there, in this vicked, vicked vorld. Thank you one and all. So many are the briefest! el abecé a todos.

  • Mark

I just can’t help it. Cruz being boo’d out the door has elevated my glee-level to heights never seen before! Yippe-Yi-Yo – K.Y.

  • greenmanTN

I’d rather Trump be President than Cruz, but that’s like declaring that .you like shit over vomit.

    • KnownDonorDad

Same here – the blowhard showman who will let the Heritage Foundation stack SCOTUS vs. the true believer theocrat who will pick SCOTUS nominees himself, to the maximum detriment of the LGBT community and many others.

    • The_Wretched

Pence’s policies are too close to Cruz’s for my comfort.

  • 3-Star

And to think these people thought Cruz was “their man” earlier this year.

  • TexasBoy

It’s because the TEA party wants to elect someone with every bit as much class and propiety as they have, and Trump fulfills that requirement. Of course, a box of rocks would fulfil the requirement, too. But then, they consider the campfire farting scene from Blazing Saddles to be high-brow hoity toity.

  • Rex

    Boo-Ted.

  • lymis

Here’s what strikes me. He said nothing negative about Trump.

He said that if you care about your country, you’ll vote your conscience. And he got booed off the stage.

That means that a significant majority of the delegates on the floor took for granted that being told to vote their conscience meant being told not to vote for Trump.

That says a lot to me about the state of the GOP.

  • This is just glorious.

  • canoebum

I haven’t watched the convention, but I’m a little disappointed there have been no thrown chairs, no fistfights. Everyone said this was going to be fun to watch. I guess not.

  • Acronym Jim

It was interesting to see the perplexed looks on the faces of the convention goers when Cruz suggested that even muslims, atheists, and gays were included in the US’s freedoms…

…but to be fair, I’m sure I was looking perplexed too, but for entirely different reasons?

  • Acronym Jim

Correct me if I’m wrong, but earlier in the speech, I thought I was hearing a good portion of the crowd chanting “you trump Trump” or something similar. It certainly sounded nothing like NY’s “say it.”

  • Sean

Please; as if Adolf Trump & Mike Himmler’s die-hard brownshirts ever supported Raphael Edward Cruz. He’s a shade off from their Aryan “ideal”. They’ll use him, but they’ll never support him.

  • KnownDonorDad

Cruz must have felt like that $100 bill sewn into his crazy father’s underwear after that.

  • KnownDonorDad

He’s due for one more run at the White House, like Rick Santorum, right? Then hopefully he’ll slink away and not bother us any more?

  • Luke Owens

I can’t understand how the party of backstabbers find it within themselves to boo a member who is only acting in the best traditions of the party….

  • seant426

If you’re a Repub. and anti-Trump, why the fuck are you at the convention? Oh, that’s right, spotlight whore.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Is it wrong that I found the entire incident incredibly satisfying?

    • Reality.Bites

It’s really the first interesting thing to happen at a convention since the selection process ended brokered conventions.

    • Marti386

      Nah.

  • DuaneBidoux

Fundamentally we are watching the inevitable result of a philosophy defined by an “us” vs. “them” axiom. I once heard a sermon by a Unitarian minister in which he said that the most fundamental difference between conservatives and liberals is that conservatives always try to make the circle smaller and liberals always try to make it bigger.

Surely enough we have been watching these two philosophies battleing it out in the US for 30 years. In that time the conservative circle has shrunk while the liberal circle has grown larger with every new minority group embracing the Dems (70% of Asians voted for Obama and that population is growing very rapidly in electoral terms).

Ultimately the problem with the conservatve worldview is that old “uses” keep becoming new “thems.”

Ultimate result?: Cannabilism of your own.

It has ended thus a 1000 times in history and the liberal world view has won step by historical step.

I have faith that ultimately it will win again (hey we won a pretty big fucking battle last year).

If this were not generally true we’d still be living in caves and throwing literal rocks at our neighbors
