TRAILER: Orange Is The New Black Season 4

The Verge recaps:

With about a month left until Orange is the New Black‘s fourth season premieres, Netflix has released its first trailer out into the wild. The big shift this season is that Litchfield is now a for-profit prison, which means 100 new inmates, stricter rules, and even more personality clashes than usual.

Earlier this year, Netflix renewed the series for a fifth, sixth, and seventh season, so the inmates should have plenty of time to sort out all the kinks in the new system. The show’s third season saw the plotlines getting more dynamic, and slowly rippling away from Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), a trend which will hopefully continue into the show’s future seasons.

  • Yay! 🙂

I’m glad they’re bringing the influx – it was getting way too safe with the weird happy family that sometimes tried to kill each other that they’d become.

Litchfield is now a for-profit prison, which means 100 new inmates, stricter rules, and even more personality clashes than usual….

And as we have seen across the country, the food will be full of maggots and cockroaches.

    • ZhyKitty

With boxes of chicken livers coming into the kitchen marked “Not for human consumption”. …all very accurate according to a friend of mine who was stuck in one of those hellholes, working in the kitchen.
When he got out and we went to pick him up, he was covered from head to toe in a terrible rash which he’d been sporting for years in there. It took 2 months for his skin to calm down completely after he got out. (He thought it was a soap allergy, but wasn’t sure.)

I hope they cover the lack of access to medical care and other such issues on this season. I know a lot of people don’t care what happens to prisoners, but it’s my hope that there are still decent human beings out here who would, if only they knew what is going on in the for profit prison industry.

      • Gustav2

And do you want to know the best part? A lot of these private prisons are self-inspecting and self-reporting.

        • ZhyKitty

All too painfully well aware of the unaccountability.
It’s utterly savage what is being done to human beings in these places. Several people that I love/have loved in this life have spent time in such places. Their stories are barbaric.

    Uzo Adabba-Doo is wonderful.

I’ll try and get back into it. Made it about 3 episodes into season 3 and kinda lost interest.

OT: Anyone watch the Aziz Ansari vehicle on Netflix, Master of None? It’s quite good, and episode 2, titled, Parents, should be mandatory viewing for every Trump supporter. It offers an interesting take on immigration.

    • Lars De

Agreed! Loved season 1. Was amazed that season 2 was even better than the first. Got to season 3 and thought, “Is it just me or did this whole thing get really boring?” I’m committing to 4 episodes of this season but if it’s anything like the last I”m out for good.

Season 2 was my favorite. What a delicious villain in Vee

And it built up to such a strong ending as well.

    Psych.

Piper’s one year sentence is stretching out like the the 3-year Korean War did on the 11-season MASH.

    • Lars De

…or the Kardashian’s 15 minutes, or Trump’s popularity, or most “Farewell” tours.

    • I was wondering about that. I stopped watching after season two because the roomies lost interest. I was wondering if her character did something that caused her sentence to be extended. And I was going to make the same MASH analogy. 😉

      • Reality.Bites

I think the time frame of the show is actually pretty slow. Most shows usually times its episodes to cover about a week between them (as Seinfeld said, “except for summer, when nothing seems to happen for months at a time.”) but there’s no reason an episode can’t cover a couple of days and one season can pick up right after the conclusion of the next. Even so, there’ve been 39 episodes so far, not counting the upcoming season.

I read the book, and the real-life adventures of Piper were far less dramatic. Women doing time in a minimum security federal prison are almost always there for drug offences or financial crimes. They aren’t violent prisoners.

In real life, she was released following her testimony at the trial of the big guy (not in exchange, just a matter of timing). So she never actually got released from the prison where she was serving time and knew people.

  • WIGuy

Piper is the most boring character on the show

    • sequel

it’s by design. a white main character so that people don’t dismiss the show offhand. or something like that according to the show creator.

  • karen in kalifornia

    Humm, no Alex.

  • kirtanloorii

Yes. I’m really looking forward to that.

  • Gerry Fisher

    Shoot! More binge-worthy material.
