NASCAR Calls For Repeal Of North Carolina’s Hate Law

From the Charlotte Observer:

As opposition to North Carolina’s House Bill 2 grows, NASCAR has joined the chorus of companies calling for the law to be overturned. According to Motorsport.com, a site that covers racing news, NASCAR Chairman Brian France made the announcement at a meeting this week with Associated Press sports editors.

Jim Utter, a longtime NASCAR writer, reported that France said NASCAR also opposed a similarly controversial law in Indiana that has since been modified. “We take the position that any discrimination, unintended or not, we do not like that and we are working behind the scenes, and we are not a political institution,” France said.

“We don’t set agendas or write laws, but we express our values to policy makers. We will and we do. We are real clear about that.”

Last month France endorsed Donald Trump.

Good luck with that NASCAR boycott in the Buybull belt, haterz…

I don’t think the average Nascar fan cares either way as long as the billboards on wheels keep going round and round.

      http://www.nascar.com/en_us/sponsors.html

  • Baby Dave

Ironically, the only way this boycott can really work is if NC and MS don’t repeal. At least, not for a full calendar year.

if NASCAR and the NCAA, along with a lot of companies do in fact pack up and leave, rather than merely threaten to do so and then back down (like they did in Indiana), the economic toll of these laws will be difficult to miss.

if Bryant and McCrory repealed tomorrow, the voters in homophobic states will just say, “Well, we don’t know what would have happened. Perhaps the economy wouldn’t suffer at all”. Right now in Indiana, many of RFRA’s supporters claim there hasn’t been any negative effects on the state’s economy as a result of RFRA.

If however they do not repeal, and the state really suffers in an undeniable way, the voters will seek replacements for those who support these laws

  • Sam_Handwich

wow, McCrory’s even lost the dolts who watch cars make left turns for hours on end.

    • Bruno

They still have the dolts, they just don’t have the capitalists who capitalize on the stupidity of the dolts.

      And things could get dangerous.

They believe in the rapture, and have no problem with violence against “the others”.

Hell, if they’re not bitching about someone using a bathroom, they’re whining about being persecuted for their “deeply held religious beliefs”. Of which most of them NEVER have an issue with breaking any/and or all of the ten commandments whenever it suits their needs.

These are not rational people. FFS they still have a visceral hatred of people who happen to be of a darker complexion, but have no problems whatsoever of baking in the sun or a tanning booth to get that tired, old, worn out leather look for themselves.

I really wouldn’t be surprised if The South tries to rise again. It’ll get burned down again because some people just can’t seem to learn any way but the hard way. If these idiots would spend more on education and less on demonization they might have a chance at joining the rest of us.

But until then I’ll keep my eyes on them. If history has taught us anything we should always be wary of stupid people in large groups.

      • ColdDesert

I wish the south would rise again, because this time no one would stop them and they’d drown in a sea of their own stupidity and the rest of us would have a much nicer place to live.

“Last month France endorsed Donald Trump.”

Any chance you could include his first name or a title? I skimmed the article and was very confused about the otherwise-lovely European country.

    • Mark

“According to Motorsport.com, a site that covers racing news, NASCAR
Chairman Brian France made the announcement at a meeting this week with
      Associated Press sports editors.”

      • Lane

Yes, and I figured it out when I went back and re-read the article more closely. That’s why I was upfront and _said_ I skimmed the article.

My point still stands. It’s not as clear as it could be. Is it as clear as it needs to be? Maybe. But personally, I’d throw in the name or title for clarity because, why not? And that’s why I wrote what I did.

        • Mark

Actually…you’re not alone. Joe’s pretty danged good a dotting the I’s and crossing the T’s – but there are some out there that bring in just last names during the course of the article….and I wonder where the hell they came from.

    • Chris

The first paragraph clearly identifies NASCAR chairman Brian France

      • Lane

Yes, and I figured it out when I went back and re-read the article more closely. That’s why I was upfront and _said_ I skimmed the article.

        My point still stands.

        • Chris

No actually it doesn’t. They clearly identified the person, so unless you point was that they should have somehow gotten that information into your brain without you actually having to read. Your point was apparently “I am too lazy to read the article, and you didn’t put the name in BOLD so it must not be there” It is not the author’s fault you didn’t read

          • Lane
