Pet Shop Boys – Burn [AUDIO]

It was 30 years ago this week that Pet Shop Boys released their first album, Please, which propelled their update of 1984’s West End Girls to the top position on pop charts worldwide. Yesterday the synthpop duo released their 13th full-length album, Super, which has already yielded the well-received single, The Pop Kids. All of the tracks from Super have been posted to YouTube and Spotify and so far I’m most keen on Burn and Undertow, which the Guardian calls “gleaming technopop juggernauts.” Listen below, sample the other tracks in the comments, and give us your reviews.

It seems a lot of long time fans aren’t really impressed with this outing, but Im loving it. I like it more than Electric. Everyone is like the lyrics are lacking and their isn’t the usual PSB ballad on the track, but after 30 some years Im really happy that they are taking risks and doing new things.

They told the Guardian that they are saving the ballads for the next and apparently final album of producer Stuart Price’s PSB triptych.

I heard a rumor that the next album will be called poetic.

        but i doubt that.

Not even a touch of melancholy on this album so far. I believe the boys are telling us it’s time to dance. 30 years later and I am still a fan.

Crazy. I’m loving the beats. It’s killing me that I can no longer dance.
With all the pain killers. I can drift off and imagine myself tearing up the floor.
      Thank you for posting this.

This will be fun for mid-day happy hour. As for right now, I am more interested in an East End Boy.

Frances McDormand, Peter Dinklage, Woody Harrelson, and Sam Rockwell do not have any qualms about NC’s discrimination, plan to film there later this month. Let them know how you feel…

Where are you suggesting we write in our anger at this?

Thanks Joe! 1986 was the year my life changed dramatically and all to the good. I had been out nearly two years by then, but it was mostly theory… In early September 86 I met the man who introduced me to the ideas that helped me eventually create my life as a corsair… 😉 He and his boyfriend were my first gay mentors. It was a great year that didn’t start well but ended fabulously. Such sweet memories!

“Very” is still my most listened to album on my ipod. It helped to establish a connection to my much younger brother and my teenage girls listen to it today. Like classic albums of yore, it is best played as an entire album. When I think of other stuff I liked in that period (ABC, Bronski Beat, Depeche Mode, Communards, etc.) Pet Shop Boys have stood up the best.

  • Burn is house, Undertow is ambient! I kept my mouth shut but I could never understand all the hating on disco which was considered great music when it was renamed Electronica.
(yes I know that ambient/house is determined by set not track)

Looks like it’s going to be my 2016 album…perfect timing.

I’m just loving the fact that as I approach my 57th birthday, I’m getting to listen to relatively new music from the likes of Pet Shop Boys, New Order, and Erasure. If Grace Jones released a new package, I’d probably just go spastic.
