Today’s New York Daily News

From the story accompanying today’s front page:

Donald Trump’s been knighted by racist David Duke. The former grand wizard of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan told his bigoted followers that not voting for Trump would be “treason to your heritage” and implored them to volunteer for the billionaire candidate because they would find like-minded haters in the campaign.

“Voting for these people, voting against Donald Trump at this point, is really treason to your heritage,” the white nationalist said on the “David Duke Radio Program.”

“I’m not saying I endorse everything about Trump. In fact, I haven’t formally endorsed him. But I do support his candidacy, and I support voting for him as a strategic action. I hope he does everything we hope he will do,” Duke, who also served a three-year stint in the Louisiana state House, said Wednesday.

The Trump campaign did not respond to repeated requests for comment on the controversial backing and the mogul, an avid user of social media, was uncharacteristically silent on the issue on his Twitter account. But civil rights groups immediately responded to Duke’s remarks, calling on Trump to disavow any connection to him and other hate groups.

  • Cara Rosenberg

How much further can they really take it at this point? And also I can’t @ the irony of their use of the KKK.

  • Kevin Perez

Clownie McBankrupt is a joke and Republicans desperately need to laugh, apparently.

  • JoeMyGod

    From yesterday.

    • BearEyes

      dereliction of duty.

    • TampaDink

As Cenk said on The Young Turks yesterday, the president needs to start nominating liberals, beginning with Alan Grayson, getting progressively more left in his choices until he reaches Cornel West and he should hold daily press briefings to remind the public how many names have been offered while the Senate refuses to entertain a single one of them. He should then remind the public that he was elected to serve a second term, which is 4 years & that is the clear proof that he must do his duty in nominating a replacement justice.

  • bkmn

Badge of courage for the Rumpers.

  • Blake Jordan

Pointing out his endorsements from white supremacists will not lose him anymore primary votes.

    • another_steve

In fact, it might attract some.

There’s a sort of simmering hostility among Trump’s base that feeds upon controversy and “media rebuke” of Trump. This Duke endorsement will only feed it more.

Super Tuesday: March 1, 2016 : Alabama, Arkansas,Georgia,Oklahoma,Tennessee,Texas,Virginia : Trump thanks the press for their free advertising.

  • Pollos Hermanos

With a David Duke endorsement, I wonder why Tony Perkins hasn’t fallen in line.

    • BearEyes

      torn between two lovers….

Guess the theocratic pull of cruz is too strong for Herr PerKKKins to resist rather than siding with his buddy Duke.

      • Cuberly

Cruz has promised Toni a new cabinet position in his administration. The Dept. Of Moral Standards and Enforcement. And if people bitch about increasing the size of government blah blah blah…Cruz will say as a cost saving measure Toni brings his own jackboots.

  • JoeMyGod

    David Duke, KKK Grand Wizard
Jared Taylor, White Citizens Council president
    Don Black, Stormfront founder
Rocky Suhayda, American Nazi Party president
Vladimir Putin, KGB former head and accused murderer
Ted Nugent, open racist and anti-Semite
    Ann Coulter, Anti-Christ

All we need now is the nod from Zombie Hitler and the trains can start rolling.

    • Rocky Suhayda — what kind of name is Suhayda. Doesn’t sound Aryan…

      • JoeMyGod

        This is him.

        • hiker_sf

          That is fucking scary.

        • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

          He looks like Donald Sutherland.

It’s like a gallon of bleach and a gallon of whole milk had a baby….

          • Ginger Snap

And then drank a gallon of gin.

          • Judas Peckerwood

Uh, that gin was for me.

          • JCF

            And drank the baby’s blood.

        • Rex

If his face is that white, imagine how white his ass is.

        • Blake Mason

I am almost certain he stay out of the sun, less he darkens like “those people” … probably bleaches his already silver blonde hair also.

I thought most of those idiots were pink and sweaty

        • ByronK

      • Piet

Dragging around the Net, I found a reference that tags it as Hungarian.

      • unsavedheathen

Unless you mean Aryan in its original meaning denoting an Indo-Persian upper class. Maybe he’s an Indian or Iranian-American bigot.

Oh quit complaining. That picture is the most flattering picture I’ve ever seen of trump. I’m all for him wearing the hood!

    • THANKS! I’ll tell my friends NOW!

  • Octavio

Something that I haven’t seen to have made it on national media is the fact several people stood outside of Palo Verde High School in Summerlin (suburb of Las Vegas) where Trump showed up to thank his followers the night of his win. The people were dressed as KKK, pointy white hats and everything. They dispersed when approached by police and the school district is is trying to spin it as teenagers playing prank. Sorry. They were not teenagers. 🙁

  • Jack_Carter_USA

He knows his fans and vice versa.

A bunch of Cruz supporters have the same costume hanging in their closets. Come out Mr. Perkins.

  • if he wins he’ll be our first president of trolling. srsly, i need a new word, stronger than “absurd.”

    • TuuxKabin

      Try any of these:

      preposterous, ridiculous, ludicrous, farcical, laughable, risible, idiotic, stupid, foolish, silly, inane, imbecilic, insane, harebrained, cockamamie;

      • i dunno. i just think he won’t like the job, and like a long line of koonservative players, stress on the word “players,” i think that he’ll Quit as soon as he gets bored with it. the negotiated deal will be “fine. you win, Rumpy. you beat us at our own game. here’s a prize. now, install this person as your Veep and go fly around the world a few times with your bimbo in your even better jet we call AF1. try not to piss off the nations with nukes.”

Donnie maybe is stupid enough not to understand how much work being preznit really is. Chimpy never did, and he ran from it, daily, once it was thrust upon him. we’ve had “president in name only” administrations before, of several kinds.

right now, Combover Boi is having the time of his life, producing and starring and directing the best show on TV in the history of TV. good for him; it’s a unique and telling critique of american politics right now.

but i am pretty sure like most billionaires and silver spoon frat rat types, he’ll be ready to move on in a few months. they get bored quickly, it’s the ‘curse of wealth.’

        • canoebum

You’re onto something here. I don’t believe he actually wants to be President, like you said, it’s a lot of difficult work. He just wants to win the election. Then, after he’s gotten off by fucking the US electorate, he’ll roll over and go to sleep.

        • TampaDink

Additionally, I doubt that he & his 3rd lady would lower themselves to live in public housing. Especially if they are prevented from encrusting every surface in gold leaf & rebranding the place as the Trump White House. Additionally, any asshole who claims that he’s been audited every year for the last decade is not likely to put his assets into a blind trust while he’s doing this new job…that will cut his income.

    • JustDucky

  • LovesIrony

    Ben Carson endorsing trump?

    • TampaDink

Eventually, perhaps. But only because his gifted hands are amused by the tiny hands of trumpet.

      • JCF

Um, because his gifted (?) hands are GIFTED w/ TrumpDollars!

        • TampaDink

On second thought, based on how many racist groups have endorsed trumpet, he might ask Ben to endorse someone else….so as not to offend too many of his mindless fans.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

Scrub all you want Trump et al, these are the people you pander to and they’re not going away any time soon.

  • Robincho

Civil rights groups immediately responded, calling on tRump to disavow any connection to Duke and other hate groups…

We’ll be “straining at stool” (as they say in the UK) a long while, waiting for a disavowal movement like that…

    • ChrisMorley

We may talk a lot of weird shit in cute accents, but in my whole life here I have never heard anyone once say “straining at stool”.

      • Robincho

I believe I extracted that from an account of the death of Charles II, so it was likely before your time. That the phrase has apparently fallen into subsequent desuetude is entirely possible, and maybe even a blessing…

  • Rebecca Gardner

OT but did you see we had another mass shooting in ‘Merka! yesterday?

    • Robincho

In Hesston, Kansas. Named in honor of Charlton, no doubt…

    • JustDucky

We have them so often they hardly make the news these days. There have been 22 so far this month:

      • MickinDetroit

although, this guy was black so it doesn’t fit the meme of crazy old white dude shooting up the place.

        • JustDucky

Gee, I’m sure that makes the victims and their families feel much better.

          • MickinDetroit

just noting the fact that this guy is getting way less press than the white uber driver who shot up Kzoo last week.

          • JustDucky

Yeah, six dead people do usually get more news coverage than three dead people. Especially when there’s a Republican Debate competing with the three dead people for press coverage.

I’m going to stop talking to you now. I don’t enjoy interacting with racists.

    • MickinDetroit

but he had multiple felonies ….why didn’t background checks stop him from getting weapons!?!

      • canoebum

A question more to the point would be: why do we allow AK-47 type weapons to be sold to the public at all? Whether he acquired the weapon legally or illegally, it doesn’t matter. Such weapons have no place in a civil society. They are military weapons.

        • MickinDetroit

well, not to go all gun nut on you here, but if we’re using the type of logic… why do we allow Lamborghinis to be sold? or for that matter any car that can travel at speeds greater than the posted speed limit?
What the guy had was apparently a couple of legal firearms, but he had no legal right to own them. The issue I have is the folks that now will scream about how the solution is more background checks.

background checks…like locks…only keep honest people honest. The only thing that will stop this stuff is a total gun ban and that only comes through amending the constitution.

          • canoebum

As a lawful gun owner myself, I’m not in favor of a total gun ban. I’ve owned a revolver legally in New York State since 1996. I’ve yet to take it anywhere but to the woods when I go wilderness camping, or for target practice. But it’s a simple revolver, not a war weapon. No civilian needs one of those.

          • MickinDetroit

but your line of demarcation is arbitrary. handguns are used 80% of the time in gun deaths. further no matter what they look like, the legal variants are still limited to single shot for single trigger pull. They look scary and yes, can hold more rounds, but they’re not the problem.

          • canoebum

They’re not the problem? Tell that to all the dead people at the scene of Gabby Gifford’s shooting incident. That guy had 30 round extended magazines in two pistols. He was knocked to the ground when he stopped shooting to change to new magazines. If he had been restricted to ten round magazines, as were the only legal type available under the prior assault weapons ban, he could have been knocked to the ground 40 rounds earlier. Some people now dead would still be alive. Don’t try that bullshit argument with me, I’m not buying it. And anyone familiar with gunsmithing will attest to the fact that semi-auto assault weapons, like the AK and AR-15, can be converted to full auto with just a few hours on the bench. The line is far, far from arbitrary. You’re spouting bullshit over the graves of the needlessly dead. Shame on you. It’s attitudes like yours that are the problem.

      More bigly great things…

He found Mama Cruz’s Canadian voter registration.

      • Xuuths

Which would mean nothing. He could find an actual letter in her own hand claiming that she had renounced her US citizenship, and it means nothing. Only the legal paperwork done at an embassy counts. It’s really quite simple.

        • Circ09

I’m a lesbian and I had never contemplated such a thing until I saw “Priscilla, Queen of the Desert”. So I blame gay guys for that appalling imagery. I guess I’m sheltered & just don’t have much of an imagination.

          • JaniceInToronto

If you’re truly sheltered, you might want to be careful on the internet.

            Some things cannot be unseen.

          • Circ09

I’m a lot older now and have lived a lot more. Still don’t have much of an imagination but I’m pretty un-shockable these days.

Yeah…odd that. Must be they’re too busy with other election year details.

    • unsavedheathen

Who’s going to say that to their base?

  • Capritaur

White supremacists are a funny bunch. Most of them are uneducated, stupid, and ugly, so they have nothing to be proud about except the socioeconomic privilege associated with their race, which they either squandered or were never part of given they’re also dirt poor.
