Lands’ End Apologizes To Right Wingers After Publishing Gloria Steinem Interview In Latest Catalog

Right wingers have deluged the Facebook page for Lands’ End with vows to boycott the company because they dared to publish an interview with feminist icon Gloria Steinem in their latest catalog. From the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel:

Lands’ End quickly backpedaled this week from an association with feminist Gloria Steinem after hearing complaints from customers and the publication of an article by a pro-life news agency. With customers taking to the company’s Facebook page to voice objections centered on Steinem’s support for abortion rights, Lands’ End on Tuesday removed a feature on Steinem from its website.

Company CEO Federica Marchionni had interviewed Steinem to kick off the Lands’ End “Legend Series” on “individuals who have made a difference in both their respective industries and the world at large.” On Wednesday afternoon, the Dodgeville-based retailer of traditional clothing issued an apology.

“We understand that some of our customers were offended by the inclusion of an interview in a recent catalog with Gloria Steinem on her quest for women’s equality,” the firm said in a statement. “We thought it was a good idea and we heard from our customers that, for different reasons, it wasn’t. For that, we sincerely apologize.

“Our goal was to feature individuals with different interests and backgrounds that have made a difference for our new Legends Series, not to take any political or religious stance.”

  • Robincho

OK, folks, it’s time to get the fuck outta Dodgeville…

    • PLAINTOM

      🙂

  • Dan

Next in the Legends Series: Eva Braun! Stood by her man until the very end but knew the wisdom of quitting while ahead!

  • John P.

    Really? Fuck them! Wimps…

  • NancyP

FFS! As if these whiners are actual customers of Land’s End. Land’s End stuff is too plain for the female Christer-bots, and doesn’t come in camo for the male Christer-bots. (Not that I am knocking camo, but I only wear it when I am out bird-watching, not when I am at work or in town).

    • NancyP

I just went to Lands End website and wrote them a nice letter pointing out that working women are their main customers, and the whiners are more likely to be shopping at Cabela’s hunting goods store for casual clothing.

      • NancyP

And yes, the shirt that I am wearing now IS a Lands End shirt.

  • Michael Smith

Just another example of left-wing political correctness. (sarcasm)

  • KT

As much as I hate to admit it, if they did an interview with someone who was against same-sex marriage, our side would have complained on Facebook to no end as well.

    • MickinDetroit

exactly. the howls of outrage would be deafening.

    • I don’t agree that’s an equivalent.

      • JustSayin’

Well i do agree.. A group of people on one side of an issue complained to a company and threatened to boycott that company. We gays have done the exact same thing.

When the comp!aint is how dare those people complain or how dare the company buckle to them, then the actual issue is irrelevant. The action is the same.

Just because we are pro one thing does not mean the antis don’t get to use the same tactic, to claim otherwise is childish.

    • Gigi

Being for women’s rights isn’t the same as being against same-sex marriage.

      • Bj Lincoln

It’s not women’s rights in general. It’s the fact she is all for abortion.

        • I know a lot of women who would say that abortion rights are women’s rights and that the two can’t be separated. (And, frankly, I’d agree with them…).

          • Bj Lincoln

I don’t separate them either but many do. Abortion is the hottest subject next to our rights .

        • Gigi

Got it. They’re only “pro-life” until the fetus shoots out the birth canal. After that it’s on its own. Can’t afford to eat or see a doctor? Too bad.

          • cleos_mom

There’s no con so blatant that some rube on the runway won’t buy it.

      • KT

Not saying it is – just saying we are passionate about our views and would make them known. Not sure we can blast the right wingers for doing the same even if we think their views on abortion rights are wrong.

        • Gigi

          Oh we can! 😉

      • MickinDetroit

no. but it’s about knowing your target demographic and what they think of the person you’re calling a “legend”.

    • JustSayin’

      You are correct

    • Eric in Oakland

Not that I don’t get your point, but isn’t that sort of like comparing Martin Luther King to David Duke? All sides definitely have the right to protest or boycott anyone they want, but they aren’t necessarily morally equivalent.

  • I don’t even think Land’s End is in Canada but I guess I could have ordered stuff online. So, me vowing never to shop there is kinda weak, but fuck it and fuck them.

  • Gigi

But I thought that Talibangelists were all for free speech and the ability of businesses to do whatever they like.

    • PLAINTOM

Only if you worship white Jesus and are opposing icky gays.

      • Gigi

Ha! I thought you said opposed to “licking” gays, which I’m not.

        • PLAINTOM

          🙂

    • Ginger Snap

Only if the free speech agrees with their crazy beliefs.

    • Queequeg

Only free speech for themselves and other right wing Fascists.

    • Stephen Elliot Phillips

The free speech must involve fetus worship and control of the womb

      • Mark

        and fucking jeebux.

    • safari2bongaloo

I also thought they were having a tea-had against people protesting the free speech of others for controversial views.

  • zhera

    PATHETIC!

And by removing the interview and apologizing, they’re taking a political and religious stance.

    • crewman

I have mixed feelings on them retracting. They should have anticipated at least the possibility of a backlash and if they weren’t willing to see it through they shouldn’t have gone with the article. But I don’t see retracting it as a political or religious stance as much as an economic stance. They are just trying to remove themselves from a controversy. Yes, from our perspective that emboldens enemies of feminism, but that is a secondary effect. If there were a way to put this issue aside and not embolden anti-feminists, I’m guessing they would take that path.

      • Lars De

“anticipated at least the possibility of a backlash”

While I agree to some extent the thought that in 2016 Gloria Steinem or woman’s equality would be seen as controversial is beyond belief. This just confirms that Land’s End clientele are mostly uptight assholes.

        • Gustav2

It’s about abortion and contraception for the middle class suburban Christians.

          • Lars De

            So yeah, uptight assholes.

        • crewman

I would bet most of the people complaining didn’t even read the article. Gloria Steinem is a symbol, the 1970s face of feminism to many people, and they are closed to any new message that may come from her. There’s also a very good chance that many of the complaints weren’t even from Lands End customers.

          • Librarykid

            didn’t even read…More like couldn’t even read

          • Steverino

Yeah, who would have expected Walmartians to know anything about cracking open a Land’s End catalog on their own.

          • Snarkaholic

True; they’d rather buy crummy socks from Walmart, than pay for quality ones from Lands’ End.

      • Eric in Oakland

It seems to me like a better solution would have been to include an interview honoring someone on the other side who has made an equally positive contribution to society. That would indicate neutrality without needing to issue an anti feminist retraction,.

        • cleos_mom

But it didn’t take much to get people on JMG to side with LE’s decision; all it took was a cutesy reference to Walmart.

          • Eric in Oakland

Well, I meant someone who actually did something positive but ok…

    • Boycott NC

Teapublicans are outraged by any viewpoint that is different from their own.

I thought Rightwingers were all about free speech.

      • Blackfork

Not if it disagrees with white jesus.

    • Brian in Valdosta

Pathetic is a good word for the actions.
      I might add ‘outrageous’.

    • Herald

I just put a comment in their facebook feed. Glancing through the comments, there are many, many angry former customers. Good to know people are not taking this laying down.

      • Nychta

They’re getting lambasted on FB. Good.

    • Sam

From the original article on the anti-abortion “LifeNews” site that started all of this poutrage:

“The Lands’ End interview with Steinem did not mention abortion but
focused on Steinem’s national effort to pass an Equal Rights Amendment
to the Constitution. Steinem’s description of the ERA sounded simple and uncontroversial in the interview. The amendment originally was introduced by pro-life feminist Alice Paul in 1923 to write women’s equality into the Constitution; but pro-lifers say new versions of the amendment could expand abortion.”

And if that wasn’t stupid enough:

“In August 2014, before Marchionni’s arrival at Lands’ End, the retailer also apologized after riling many customers by rewarding their patronage with subscriptions to men’s magazine GQ, and the first issue happened to feature a nearly naked model on the cover.”

      http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/14/business/media/risque-promotion-prompts-outcry-from-lands-end-customers.html?_r=0

  • Paula

Isn’t it Land’s Ends catalog? Why can’t they publish it. I thought they wanted first amendment rights.

    • Gigi

Ya but only THEY are entitled to first amendment rights. Same goes with religious freedom. It’s for them, not Muslims.

      • Bj Lincoln

Or any other religion or us icky gays.

      • Paula

Nobody forced them to read it.

        • Gigi

No one’s forcing them to attend a same-sex wedding either but they way they’re crying you’d think we’re forcing them to do that AND to turn down the sheets on the wedding bed afterward.

          • Paula

            Pandering to the jeebus lickers.

  • LovesIrony

Women should be treated as equals offends you? too fucking bad.

    • Soren456

Federica Marchionni, the Lands’ End CEO, is a woman.

How does she think she would ever have that position if not for Gloria Steinem and others, and 50 years of history that they helped set in motion?

      Jesus.

      • cleos_mom

A lot of women currently dissing feminism would be having a baby every year if feminism didn’t exist. It would be tempting to say they’d get what they deserve but the duggar offspring wouldn’t.

  • WildGift

    Spineless and pathetic.

  • Ginger Snap

I’m sure if the did an article about the inventors of Viagra and how it changed a generation of men’s lives no one would have said a peep. Ya know because it’s only men’s sexual health that matters.

    • MickinDetroit

when women stop voting for republicans…maybe that will change.

      • Bj Lincoln

I could never understand why women vote republican. Ever since it was taken over by the Moral Majority, women have been treated horribly. They just vote because their men vote that way I guess.

        • MickinDetroit

last year there was a poll on that…
“57 percent of Republican primary voters want to make Christianity the national religion, …

“Even more interestingly, the data shows a stark gender divide among Republicans polled on this question: 66 percent of Republican women versus 49 percent of Republican men would like to see America become more theocratic. “

          • Rolf

I was speaking to a friend who travels to the Middle East regularly about women there being forced (I assumed by men) to wear head to toe black veils. She told me it is actually due to peer pressure from other women (who call them sluts and whores if they don’t) that forces them to wear this, not the men.

          • Eric in Oakland

Good point. I know a few very conservative women in the US, and I believe it is similar here. Part of how they make themselves feel superior is by painting those unlike them as inferior. I also think that conservative women engage in slut shaming far more than conservative men.

          • Steverino

            Kinder, kuche, kirche.

          • NancyP

The Republican women prefer to be helpmeets to their lords and masters (husbands) of the Master Race, rather than face the (unrealized) prospect of equality with blacks and the realities of the job market. The longer I live, the more I think that racism is the cause of all American political peculiarities.

  • Gustav2

Why of why would the company that supplies suburban/exurban ‘uniforms’ be in trouble with the anti-choice crowd? /s

Yes, I wear their stuff, it’s genetic.

  • Queequeg

They should not be backing down. The right wingers are always touting freedom of speech, as it applies to them, but they are more than willing to deny it to others.

    • William

      Bingo!!!

  • delk

And yet, everybody that is complaining about that article has an entire closet filled with abortion devices.

Some of those abortion devices may actually have Land’s End products on them.

  • RealityBass

I’m embarrassed to say that I’m wearing a Land’s End shirt as I type this. I think I should write the company and tell them that they also might want to do business with people who aren’t wingnuts.

    • Gigi

Never heard of the company until today. Won’t be shopping there.

      • RealityBass

I just went to their website and wrote them a message saying that I don’t appreciate them letting wingnuts determine their policies.

  • Rebecca Gardner

    Wait! Hold on! Time out!

Right Wing Nut Jobs shop at WalMart for their clothing. I seriously doubt the double-wide dwelling, uneducated, tRump and Cruz supporters have actually ever purchased anything from Land’s End so what the fuck do they care.

I know, that is really shallow, and I’m stereotyping but seriously, how many of them have ever seen a Land’s End catalog? Also, what happened to the First Amendment Defenses that they are all screaming about? Oh right, sorry, i forgot, the First Amendment only applies to the RWNJ BuyBull Thumpers.

WTF is going on in the world today? I’ve totally had it with this childish, non-issue noise all day long.

    • Gustav2

See Gov Kasich’s standard wardrobe, and his close friends’.

      • Austin Bennett

And middle class suburban Republicans aren’t part of the super right wing Evangelical Christian sect…

        • Gustav2

          Yes, many of them are.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Same thing happened up here in Canada when we were first dealing with Marriage Equality. Holt Renfrew, a VERY high end store in Toronto had a window display with rainbow flags. The Christian Right, such as it is in Canada, had a fit. What’s cool about the story was the response by Holt’s CEO at the time. I’m paraphrasing: “Holt’s caters to any and all who wish to purchase our fine products, that said, I suspect those who are complaining are not among our regular clientele”, it was a beautiful thing to watch.

      • Rebecca Gardner

That’s awesome! I would have immediately gone shopping there after hearing a statement like that.

        • Jean-Marc in Canada

My husbotter and I were regulars until we left Toronto.

        • JD

The only retail suppliers of Duchamp goods in western Canada…it’s head to Vancouver or hop to London I guess

    • MickinDetroit

lands end did the about face when schools started jumping on the boycott bandwagon here. Lands end is a major supplier of private school uniforms. Many of those are religious based.

      • Gustav2

All the permanent press khaki’s and white shirts you could want.

    • Wynter Marie Starr

Land’s end does HUGE business in school uniforms. The quality as opposed to price makes it worthwhile to shop for uniforms from them. I’d be willing to bet that’s wheee the uproar came from.

      • Chuck in NYC

I think Sears also still has Land’s End departments. The pressure to be as “noncontroversial” as possible is probably everywhere.

  • Reasoning101

A simple, “The views of individuals we interview for our publication do not imply or necessarily reflect the views of our company” would have sufficed.

This whole “we’re gonna boycott liberals out of existence” shit has to stop, and the way it stops is by companies not giving in to every demand. Let the whiners be mad and look crazy.

    • Dramphooey

It’s like lightning; you never know where Internet outrage is going to strike. Oddly enough it is usually the most trivial things.

    • JaniceInToronto

      Money talks.

      • Mike C

And their boycotts usually go nowhere and follow and increase in sales. They shouldn’t have bothered to respond much less retract.

        • Austin Bennett

God, I do with their boycott of Starbucks hadn’t worked. I really do miss my daily dose of latte.

          /sarcasm

      • Steverino

        And bullshit walks.

      • marshlc

        Our money talks, too.

And I suspect that on the whole our side has more, and is more likely to use it.

        • Austin Bennett

The gays have always had more disposable income. Better careers, less overhead.

          • marshlc

And these days you have a whole lot of straight allies – friends, family, neighbours – all people who for the most part are better educated, smarter, and angry at the way they people they love are being treated. That’s a pretty potent political and financial friend or enemy to make.

When it comes to actually putting your money where your mouth is, making real sacrifices, outrage at actual harm being done to actual living people who you care about is strong and powerful.

  • Upside, that pandering puff-piece about what a swell guy Franklin Graham is has probably been nixed. The inoffensive, non-idealogical Middle of the Road has become a very lonely place these past few years.

  • Kevin Perez

If I were Land’s End, I would have begged them to boycott. It only drives up sales when fRight Wingnuts boycott.

  • Gigi

You should head over to their facebook page. The feminists and their supporters aren’t taking this one lying down. It’s getting pretty heated. 😉

  • Phyllis Schlafly’s sour face probably wouldn’t sell any clothes. Everyone is sick of Sarah Palin, Janet Porter could be pictured modeling this season’s selection of straightjackets. We can have Mags Gallagher to model the burlap moomoos. Anyone but libruhls.

    • Circ09

I think this is part of the problem with their “interview” strategy. Doesn’t Land’s End cater to like a really old demographic?

      • NancyP

Yeah. Me. I would have to get extra-small men’s shirts to get what I like, the straight-cut cotton knit shirts. I don’t like non-exercise clothing that is plastered on me, though I have a good figure.

        • Circ09

That is the amazing thing to me about this. I think the people in charge thought that an 82 year old white woman that has been in the public eye 45 + years would be recognizable to their primary demo and “mainstream” enough to not be any problem. They didn’t consider how rabid the right-wing part of that demographic is or how nutz the private school crowd has gotten.

    • Steverino

Phyllis Schlafly could encourage her demographic to shop for yards and yards of linen full-body and face wrap, though.

    • cleos_mom

      Well, there’s always Curly Farina.

  • Boitje

I have to think about how I would feel if the Lands’ End catalogue featured an interview with the author of the disgusting California law legalizing circumcision (my issue) and how important it was to defeat the SFMGMbill. Viscerally I would be outraged that the company was promoting a human rights violation (as I’m sure the anti-choicers are), but rationally I would think, “In the big scheme of things, how much difference does this one article make? Are there other ways to counter this dumb move on their part?”

I hardly think anyone is going to rush out and get an abortion because they read an article with Gloria Steinem while shopping for jeans and sweaters.

The wingnuts’ goal is to shut down any and all dissent, wherever they see it. Fascism sounds about right to them.

    • Octavio

Remind me again. Was SFMG bill the anti smegma bill? Asking for a friend.

  • Circ09

Well, Gloria is going all out lately to stay relevant. I wonder if all this attention has helped her new book sales? 82 years old and still kicking up the dust. I hope to be like her. So sad that the very basic woman’s rights she talks about in this interview is still so controversial. On the other hand, I do think it weird that a clothing catalog has decided to include “interviews”. Just sell me clothes.

    • Gustav2

      Trying to be ‘edgy?’ LOL

      • Circ09

Ohhh, Burn! Or is that Bern!, these days?

    • Chuck in NYC

She was a pistol on Bill Maher’s show a few weeks ago, especially in the overtime segment where she lit into Trump and didn’t hold back.

      • Circ09

She was a pistol alright. A few of those bullets landed in the wrong direction though. Media having on an 82 year old GS as the premiere go-to “feminist” to discuss these issues highlights real disconnect. Unfortunately for her some of her thinking hasn’t evolved out of the 60s/70s. Unfortunately for us, a lot of America hasn’t progressed from there either.

    • Austin Bennett

      I don’t think it’s weird at all.

I didn’t think it was weird when the American Girl doll did a spread on same sex parents whose kid enjoyed the American Girl dolls.

If you’re main customer base is women, and you want to celebrate women, then why not start with strong women? I think it’s a good idea.

  • Lazycrockett

How paranoid you must be to see Gloria Steinem as a threat in 2016. JFC

    • Steverino

They are caught in the same “Hanoi Jane” Fonda time warp.

    • Octavio

It’s well known that Steinem and her cadre of uber femenazis have all had their eggs fertilized by prominent leftist males and the zygotes are frozen in a secret underground lab so they can be implanted in the wombs of illuminati nuns and who will raise them to take over the world after the apocalypse. I heard it on the BBC, so it has to be true. 🙂

      • boatboy_srq

Which Doctor Who episode was THAT?

  • Sean Taylor

no more land’s end. they got themselves into this…

  • Is there anything that one can say that doesn’t offend someone? Honestly, I think it is time people just started telling the offended to “go eff themselves and get over it”, the political correct sect on both sides is annoying as hell!

  • safari2bongaloo

    Those poor politically incorrect snowflakes

  • CB

Now the RWNJs can claim they protect the kids. How many of them buy form Land’s End? As of this morning, my company no longer does business with their corporate suppliers. I don’t want to work with a company that doesn’t have the courage of its convictions. Clearly bad management, not doing research in advance to see if this is a viable tactic. Blatant PR grab that backfired. Don’t want to do business with such a company.

  • kaydenpat

If they’re so weak, they need to scrap the entire series.

  • Robert Conner

Oh drat! Where are the fascists going to buy galoshes?

  • Ninja0980

Gee, I thought the rightwingers claimed businesses had the right to do what they wanted and that calls for boycotts were bad.
Guess that only applys to the LGBT community.

    • Steverino

When we do it, we are homofascists. When they do it, they are patriots.

    • Austin Bennett

      You’re late to the game.

  • 5moreminutes*imtired

Almost as if it was just for the expected hubub. Hmmmm

  • i like gloria and all that, but i have to agree with the pissed off conservatives. i pick up a catalog to look for clothes, not an opinion piece. when i want those i go to websites and news outlets. i don’t know which marketing dept exec failed marketing 101, but the rule they try to teach there is “don’t mix politics and product, unless the product is politics.” we’d be annoyed if they put in a piece by toni perkinz, for example.

    • Austin Bennett

No, we wouldn’t. We would express our disappointment, but we wouldn’t demand… I dunno, Restoration Hardware… from removing the piece.

Silencing our opponents is not our mission.

  • Alan43

Even today, Gloria Steinem is considered THAT controversial?

    • Octavio

Hard to believe, no? And Bella Abzug is still considered the wife of Satan among the teabangelicals. Both of their names are often mentioned in prayers to the lard asking him to protect the faithful from their evil ministrations and teachings. Hah!

    • JCF

I thought maybe just to the Berners (after her admittedly effed-up “where the boys are” comment).

  • Bill

Nice to know Company CEO Federica Marchionni will do as she’s told. Just like any woman should. This should leave her more time to make tasty snacks and sandwiches for a man.

    • cleos_mom

Not to mention getting started on that “full quiver.”

  • Mike Thakar

Fuck them. Off my shopping list. Assholes.

  • I’m sorry, I forgot landsend existed. If I wanted overpriced, ugly shit, I would shop at Urban Outfitters or follow the Duggar’s brand endorsements. NEXT!

  • Ian

Do teabaggers even shop there? I know I haven’t, and not probably never will.

    • Austin Bennett

Of course they don’t, but that’s not the point.

    • cleos_mom

They’re a major supplier of uniforms to the kind of schools teabaggers with money send their kids to and that’s the butt they decided to kiss.

  • Rex

Now they can party like it’s 1952.

    • cleos_mom

Judging from some of the photos on their FB page, that’s exactly what they’re doing. Or want their customers to be doing.

  • Octavio

Haven’t even thought about Land’s End since the early Reagan years. They’re still a thing? pussies!

  • Merv99

Why do people find it so difficult to listen to opinions they disagree with? I appreciate hearing opposing opinions because it helps me refine and articulate my own. Sometimes, I even change my opinion if someone presents the better argument.

    • boatboy_srq

The Reichwing doesn’t want opinions, concurring or dissenting. They want doctrine.

  • bsinps

    TRULY PATHETIC! ! !
I won’t be purchasing from Lands End anymore! Any company that bows down to religious political bashing doesn’t deserve my patronage!

  • Luther Kreiger

Shorter: “We’re terribly sorry to have acknowledged the existence of someone who has worked to make the world a better place in ways troglodytes dislike.”

What a fucking ass-backwards way of thinking. Pathetic.

  • boatboy_srq

Lands’ End has been independent of KSears for less than two years (KSears bought them in ’02). Either the current shareholders are getting tired of running the place and are engineering a bankruptcy, or they haven’t figured out how to get their heads out of their a##es. Either way this isn’t going to help much.

OTOH, Lands’ End is sold through Debenham’s, one of my (otherwise) favorite shops. Humph.

  • Mark

Fuck Lands’ End. Never shopping there again if they’re going to fucking cave in.

  • roadtripboy

The article should have mentioned Lands’ End is owned by Sears Holdings which also owns Kmart.

  • Kissmagrits

Land’s End goes on my growing shit list now after being on my good guy list for thirty years – which includes Eddie Bauer, L.L.Bean and Pendleton.

Also, Cracker Barrel restaurants are building their first location on the west coast in my town. I’ll never forget Cracker Barrel for their nasty company mandated treatment of LGBT people all over the south. So, they can join that other asshole Christianist newcomer to the Northwest – Chick-fil-A.

    • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

What is L.L.Bean and Pendleton guilty of? Eddie Bauer got caught doing the racism, but I don’t know about the other two.

      • Kissmagrits

Nothing that I know of – – – L.L.Bean and Pendleton remain on my Good Guy list and I hadn’t heard of the Eddie Bauer infraction, so I’ll have to look for
the incident(s) you cite. And to start out this year, I’ve removed several Koch brothers-sourced household choices from consideration,

But, no more Land’s End – – Steinem has been in the human rights arena for over fifty years and at eighty something, she’s made a real difference.

        • Platos_Redhaired_Stepchild

Eddie Bauer got sued for a “shopping while black” incident back in the 90’s.

  • Mark

I’ve purchased linens from them for over 20 years. Just sent them an email they’ve lost a long time customer. Fuck em.

    • Eons ago before the internet was a thing, we received a catalog from Land’s End in the mail, and we liked the looks of the flannel sheets, and ordered a set. They never came, so I called them and was told that not only could they not mail me my order due to living in a foreign country, but they couldn’t mail back my check because they didn’t have the correct stamps to mail to a foreign country. We lived in Alaska, not a foreign country, and had been a state at this point for around 30 years. After wrangling around on the phone for way to long, I just gave up and hung up. About two months later, we received the sheets, and I never ordered from them again.

      • sherman

Fun fact- I have a 1958 Alaska license plate. My uncle gave it to me not long after statehood.

        • How awesomely cool! Did your Uncle live in Alaska?

          • sherman

He lived in Seattle for a year or so. I don’t know if he might have made a trip up there or not. Unfortunately he died a few years later at 44, complications after a routine operation. He was a very involved uncle, I’m sure my life would have been different with his influence further on.

          • Uncle’s can be the very best! My Uncle Choo-choo, taught me things no one else thought to do, and raised me to be a much better person, and I miss him every day.

At least you had him, and knew you were loved, that can make all the difference.

      • cleos_mom

They thought Alaska was a foreign country? I’d assumed that kind of thing happened only to people in New Mexico.

        • Sadly, it still happens to day with many TOURISTS! Two of our sons worked at a hotel where most of the guests arrived by train and would ask our sons if “American money” was accepted at the restaurant……sigh.

  • Michael Hampton

So “conservatives” want to be able to tell businesses what they can and can’t do, but then don’t want their businesses treated the same way. Got it.

  • Nic Peterson

What’ll I do the next time I need a pair of ill fitting khakis or an Oxford shirt big enough for two of me? Oh wait; I don’t wear that crap anyway.

  • Sean Taylor

fuck land’s end and their cowardly bullshit.

  • “…a forced-pregnancy advocating “news” agency which clearly does not believe in differences of opinion or the First Amendment.”

    Fixed it for ya.

  • John Calendo

Next up: Land’s End set to interview Phyllis Schlafly. Hooray!

  • itsmyhusbandandme

I saw her interviewed on BBC Breakfast New recently. I thought she should be given her own show.

So, Lands End has joined the Milquetoast of the Month club!

  • Austin Bennett

Is this the first time a company has responded by removing the offended articles?

  • cleos_mom

LOL, so much for Lands’ End’s commitment to “timeless style”.

  • Zhenren

Gloria was hot in her day; and don’t you know she regularly rode the rods back in the day, and I’m not talking about hoboing no trains, although I bet she’s pulled her share. At any rate, the subject, here, is abortion. For the life of me I can’t figure out why anyone gives a shyte if a prego woman wants to off her own budding little rug-rat. If the prego doesn’t want the brat, who the hell else would either? Adoption? Hell, there’s plenty of brats around to adopt. My message to the “pro-life” folks is “fine you feed, clothe and support the brats.”

  • Glen

Rare I stand on the same side as right wingers.

Lands End shouldn’t host religious nuts like Steinem . Not on her pro-choice positions of course, but on her twisted lunatic-fringe feminazi positions.
