Chris Christie Endorses Donald Trump

Now we know why Christie hit Rubio so hard during the last debate. From the New York Times:

Gov. Chris Christie of New Jersey endorsed Donald J. Trump on Friday, a major turn in a wild race and one that gives the New York businessman a major boost as he heads into the pivotal Super Tuesday contests.

Mr. Christie was a candidate himself until he came in sixth place in New Hampshire’s primary. But his backing of Mr. Trump comes after weeks of him saying that it was time for the “entertainment” portion of the race to end, and as he had said that the type of executive leadership that a governor has is important.

But Mr. Christie, seeing his political career facing an abrupt conclusion at the end of a second term as governor following his faded presidential campaign, is deeply angry with Senator Marco Rubio, according to three people with direct knowledge of his thinking. He blames Mr. Rubio’s “super PAC” for halting his momentum in New Hampshire in December with a string of slash-and-burn ads.

Trump this morning called Christie a “spectacular governor.” Christie responded by saying that Trump is the only candidate that can beat Hillary Clinton. Moments later Trump mocked Rubio for “putting his makeup on with a trowel” before last night’s debate. Seriously.

    • Lawerence Collins

Odd, since many polls show Bernie being the only one that would beat trump, Cruz and Rubio.

    • There isn’t a Trump t-shirt size available for Christie, at least one that he can get his head through the hole.

  • Lazycrockett

Well we know who sent the bigger box of donuts.

  • Guest

Now we know who the VP slot will go to………………..

  • thatotherjean

Oh, look! One loudmouthed blowhard is in favor of another!

  • Lazycrockett

How anyone could say that Trump is the best person to be president seriously?

    • another_steve

I assume that upon hearing of this endorsement, Karl Rove and the RNC had to take another high blood pressure pill.

      • clay

Or were glad they’d torpedoed Christie earlier?

        • another_steve

          Good point.

In this surreal election cycle, it’s easy to forget that at one time Christie was high on the list of favorite Republican establishment presidential candidates. Bridgegate put an end to that.

Boy may yet end up in prison over his involvement in that.

          • clay

Super Storm Sandy and the recent unpleasantness with Mittens didn’t help, either.

          • another_steve

Plus he’s in hot water with New Jerseyites, on a number of issues.

His “favorability numbers” in his home state are way down.

        • Reality.Bites

Torpedo? Isn’t Christie protected by the international ban on whaling?

I heard Scalia rose from the dead just so he could have another fatal heart attack.

    • FAEN

That’s why Trump loves the barely educated.

  • Chuck in NYC

Well, Christie doesn’t have to have been pro-Trump to have been anti-Rubio. It’s just that Christie was far more effective at pointing out how craven and foolish Rubio is than anyone else. Jeb! sure couldn’t handle his former protege.

  • FAEN

Trump just bought himself an attack dog.

    • Bryan

      Or a VP nom?

      • kirtanloorii

Maybe Christie is smarter than he looks.

        • TuuxKabin

He’s looking larger than ever in recent photos.

          • clay

I disagree; he seems to have gotten narrower, but with no increased depth.

        • BlueberriesForMe

Well, he did get this far. Of course, there’s always the downslope part. Those bridges aren’t going to fix themselves.

      • FAEN

I doubt it. Trump and Christie would not play well even in the South.

      • Gustav2

        AG?

        • FAEN

          That seems logical.

        • CraigNJ

Either AG or head of Homeland Security. He sees himself as the great bringer of justice.

      • Lazycrockett

I think Christie would really drag down a campaign, no one especially just the average person is going to remember bridgegate and not think that the only thing that action did was hurt everyday people who were just trying to get from one place to another on the highway.

      • Robincho

Hopefully not. But the Secretary of Lard cabinet slot is still open…

    • Robincho

      You misspelled “hog”…

  • Michael Smith

This might actually hurt Trump. Christie is still widely blamed in the Tea Party for Obama’s reelection.

    • another_steve

Those photos of Christie hobnobbing with Obama after Hurricane Sandy.

If I were Cruz or Rubio, I’d be preparing the related anti-Trump ads as we speak.

“Look who loves Obama and just endorsed Trump!”

      • Lazycrockett

        Yes Please.

      • clay

Pair that with Turmp’s support of Hilary 8 years ago . . .

    • David L. Caster

Here’s a theory: the Tea Party has won everything that it is going to. A few seats in congress and a lot of Obama bashing was the result. Now those that fell into the thrall of the TP are chasing a new sparkly in the person of one Donald Trump. Trump is mouthing the right platitudes to the White Jesus crowd and, as usual, that lot has been taken in. The Birthers, TPs, christofascists, bigots, and the poorly educated now have their standard bearer.

  • another_steve

Yet another badge of shame for Christie.

    • 5moreminutes*imtired

Haha I read that as barge of shame. Was still appropriate.

  • camel toes everywhere quiver with excitement.

This will probably help cement Trump’s inevitably as nominee. The end is nigh. Oh well, it’s not like there was a good alternative, anyway.

  • Prion

  • Sam_Handwich

crispy wants Trump as the nominee so he loses the general and he can run again in 2020

    • Reality.Bites

In that case, wouldn’t he be better off NOT endorsing him?

    • clay

There were two people the RNC would not allow this cycle: Turmp & Crispie. I don’t think that will change between now and then.

  • Prion

  • SpiderPIG

Next in line will be Piyush and Huckabee.

    • TimCA

Jindal already endorsed Rubio. He’ll probably stick with him until Rubio exits the campaign. I don’t remember if the Huckster has endorsed or not.

      • Reality.Bites

Is there a candidate named Cinnamon running?

        • Jimmie Z

          CinnaBun

      • SpiderPIG

        Oh, he did?
That’s how relevant Jindal’s endorsement is, it went practically unnoticed.

        • Reality.Bites

I think you may be confusing his endorsement with his campaign.

  • Michael Smith

So how much do you think Trump paid Christie for this endorsement?

  • Blake J Butler

Marcobot is not going to like this, and he even got his new Marcosoft update before the debate last night, to take on Trump and he still is predicted to lose on Super Tuesday.
