  • EdmondWherever

I never noticed her pretty blue eyes before.

    • Lazycrockett

I think the color is called Beating Bernie Blue.

      • EdmondWherever

As long as the next prez is blue, I don’t even care.

      • Robert G.

        Feel the Bern!

  • Cuberly

The fact these aren’t all streamed for free is criminal.

    • DaddyRay

I think they should all be on PBS available for everyone to see commercial free

      • Cuberly

Exactly, get the ratings whoring out of the equation.

      • Piercedchrlz

Noooooooo, not PBS, it’s what I’m watching instead of politics!

        • DaddyRay

Sorry but not everyone has cable or internet access (my mom would be one of these people) and if it was on one of the networks it would not have the freedom of corporations controlling the content.

          • bkmn

Maybe the next FCC chair can make it a requirement for an over the air license to host at least one debate/town hall.

          • Gene

entirely dependent upon who is president
if its trump…PBS will have pay per view sesame street and pay by the recipe cooking shows. GED preparation classes? those are for YUGGGE losers…
            God preserve us…

          • Reality.Bites

Sesame Street’s already on HBO before it hits PBS

          • Gene

yes…but, thats just a way to increase income…it all gets to PBS free 6 months or so later. its not like shoes or a beat up book…its still good. Trump would charge everyone for it. no pay, no view.

          • Miji

And if I understand correctly the HBO’s increased investment allows them to produce more content (more episodes per season).

          • Octavio

Hah! As if Trump could pass the GED. High Larry Us!!!

        • J Ascher

Broadcasting on PBS would be OK as long as Gwen Ifill has nothing to do with the presentation!

    • james_from_cambridge

They generally are streamed on Youtube. They always say they’re bootlegged but Youtube never takes ’em down.

  • Michael Rush

WAY off topic but … Triumph the Insult Comic Dog Stalks Ted Cruz

( featuring his Kim Davis disguise )

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5NDSIhQ4gC4&feature=youtu.be

    • Octavio

This is really is hilarious. Thanks. 🙂

    • hiker_sf

Thanks for posting that. I’m still laughing.

    • Michael Alden

I had a crush on the Dell Guy a long time ago, such a shame he got fired for smoking weed. I hope he comes out with something weed-related once it’s legal where he lives, or once it’s legal nationwide another computer company hires him and makes some magic.

      • Michael Rush

I couldn’t tell what he was saying , i thought it was Jay Mohr .

        • Michael Alden

It’s Ben Curtis, he’s been a recurring guest on the Cartoon Network Adult Swim show The Jack and Triumph Show.

    • Dramphooey

“Obviously the Kim Davis disguise did not fool them — or, like everyone else, they just hate Kim Davis.” Another triumph for Triumph!

    • Henri205

Brilliant! Thanks for posting that. I’m still laughing at ‘When did Geppetto make you a real boy?’

    • Brian in Valdosta

Triumph!! Oh, how I’ve missed you.
The perfect antidote to a Trump-Cruz-Rubio-infested election.

  • Lazycrockett

Bernie doesn’t change it up at all does he.

    • Nope. Sticks to his talking points. It’s good, and bad because we need more.

  • The polls are useless, we’ve said this.

  • Gene

I have spent so damn much time organizing (and being told by older black church ladies WHAT to do.) driving people to the polls, and will be probably be asleep before Nevada is even called or this town meeting is over.
((note…working with african americans, hispanics in Gwinnett co and Asian American along the Buford I85 corrador. Happy to say history is high. we are focusing on getting hillary voters out…with those groups..duh, but will of course happily take anyone to the polls..expect decent turnout in GA, and, I am guessing she will do very well in GA))

    • Gene

sorry,…so tired. enthusiasm, not history, is high. Thats a good thing.
the hispanics are especially pissed about immigration and the republicans attitudes, and the African Americans are passionate about 1) Hillary 2) NOT having ANY of the rethuglicans in charge

      • PLAINTOM

Go to sleep, sounds like you need a well deserved rest.

        • Gene

          I AM tired….
one thought for us all to consider. GA made it harder to register. much harder. The result? Some very, very VERY pissed off, offended and angry African American voters. Contrary to what the white republicans who control our general assembly, black people are not stupid, and they know DAMN well why it was done….NOT to prevent (ahem) voter fraud.

Congrats rethuglicans….you have pissed off a LOT of people…and they DID jump through hoops to register…and oh HELL yes they are voting early, and will vote this time. count on it. As per Trump./Rubio/ Cruz? the hispanic voters, contrary to what some think, read and listen to the news, and know anti hispanic, anti immigrant pandering when they hear it. Thank you Mr. Trump.

      • bkmn

Change we all can believe in Gene.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

the one thing that this election has at least going for it is that both sides agree that mental health issues should be more effectively noted and studied. Having noted, will that turn into support?

    • Reality.Bites

Did you mean both sides as in both sides of this town hall, or both parties?

      • Oscarlating Wildely

Of this town hall. I don’t trust the GOP with any issue related to sanity.

      • Lazycrockett

We already see what the GOP does with the mentally ill, they run them for President.

        • Octavio

Or push them to the streets.

  • Michael Alden

Did he just pander? I thought only Hillary panders for black votes. I mean this is the the first time he’s talked about what he’d do for Historically Black Colleges/Universities only after legislators in the SC said his plan for free college excluded HBCUs.

  • JT

CNN not streaming free? Outrageous. And SC, the treasonous beginning of the Civil War, as a site for a Presidential Primary? Not the best.

  • Sam_Handwich

i like Bernie. i like Hillary. i will vote for either.

    • Dreaming Vertebrate

Maybe we will be lucky enough to get both in some capacity.

    • Good Shot Green

I will vote straight (heh) Dem this election.

    • Mike in Texas

I got tired of my indecision, so I forced a decision by going to vote early in the primary last Friday. Once I got to the voting booth I decided. I’ll be happy to vote for either one in November. If only we could combine their individual strength into a single person!

      • Sam_Handwich

so who did you vote for?

        • Mike in Texas

Hillary … with a pang of guilt because Bernie speaks to my heart. I think Hillary has a larger skill set.

          • Joe knows who I am.

Should have gone with Bernie. No Guilt, and he’s actually got the larger skill set.

Besides, if Hillary doesn’t get in fair and square, it doesn’t matter if Bernie steps aside, the youth vote intends on writing him anyway. They pretty much feel that we’ve fucked things up enough and we’ve had our chance to do it right for years but, all we keep doing is the same corrupt mistakes over and over. Yeah, It’ll split the vote and Trump could win. Honestly, I don’t think they care anymore what we want. We aren’t living in their world much longer. We’ve had our chance and we keep blowing it. The Democrats are going to get the same reckoning that the Republicans did with the teapartiers, like it or not.

    • Octavio

      I like Bernie
      I like France
      I like Hillary
      Wearing pants.
      Oh, worra, worra, worra,
      What to do?
      Vote for the woman
      or vote for the Jew?
      My
      Mother
      Told
      Me
      To
      Pick
      Just
      One!
(I’m not tellin’ what answer my folded paper flea picker told me.)

      • Paula

You have too much free time.

      • GC

That’s precisely why we need to reform our voting system, so every citizen can express their approval/disapproval of ALL the candidates. Take a look at http://www.rangevoting.org .

    • Henri205

I voted for Bernie in the primary but will vote for either of them in November. ABAR (Anybody But A Republican)

  • Good Shot Green

I as a Democrat support the Democratic candidate in the Democratic primary.

  • JT

This guy is worried about billionaires? He’s undecided? Yeah, he’s worth worrying about.

  • Reality.Bites

I’m not watching but there don’t seem to be many posts. Are people not watching or are they not saying anything we haven’t heard before?

    • Sam_Handwich

i think we’re all ready for the general contest

    • Steven Leahy

Burnt out on a lot of it.

      • Ninja0980

        That and the infighting.

        • Steven Leahy

Right. No matter which one we get on our side, it’s a huge win over the opposition. Time for unity.

    • Good Shot Green

      Ain’t got cable.

    • Treant

Not watching, at least in my case. I was planting Profusion zinnia and Aloha Blue ageratum. 🙂

  • JT

The Democratic contenders vs the Republican contenders. No contest. It’s like Mount Olympus vs the depths of Hades.

    • Steven Leahy

We saw a glimpse of the repub’s electorate in the Charlotte LGBT rights debate. Nothing short of frightening.

      • Ninja0980

And yet some people are willing to sit on their butts if their nominee doesn’t win.
Trust me, as someone who had to grit his teeth and vote for Andrew Cuomo twice, I wish people would realize that yes, it sucks the way the system is right now but sitting home only lets the folks we saw last night get into power.

        • Good Shot Green

I won’t. If Bernie prevails I will vote for him.

          • Gene

            ditto.

        • hiker_sf

I will vote for Hillary. But I will be drunk when I do it.

          • Gene

you are going to the polls with Anastasia? thats nice

            🙂

          • hiker_sf

            No, with Anesthesia.

          • Gene

            potato…puhtahto…

          • Octavio

            Sounds like a plan. 🙂

          • 2patricius2

Doesn’t matter how you do it. If she wins the nomination, all that matters is that you do it

          • JCF

You’re a hiker from San Francisco? Come see me in Sacra-tomato this fall, and I will personally buy you a drink to vote for Hillary (and may I assume vice-versa, if Bernie’s the nominee?).

        • 2patricius2

Between now and November is a long time. I suspect a lot of those who now say they won’t vote if their candidate doesn’t win, will change their minds after the loser supports the winner, and the alternative of having the Republicant candidate in office as president sinks in.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Except Hades had a peaceful river. The GOTP is like a layer of hell with echoes of never ending screams.

      • Gene

and Sarah Palin and Michelle Bachman as Brunette, less intelligent versions of Lady Death
        ( true nerds catch it…and lesbians…I suspect)

        • Steven Leahy

I don’t even know why they’re allowed to speak since they want to harken back to a traditional biblical world. They should retreat to the kitchen and be their husbands’ help mates as was the original design. /s

          • Gene

well..in bachmans case, she IS the most masculine figure in the home.
and, I guess if you shoot enough animals from helicopters, the rethiglicans will let you speak (if that can be called speaking) and everything! 🙂

          • Steven Leahy

LOL I was debating whether Marcus qualified as a “husband”

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Um, do you know Michelle Bachman’s husband? There’s some retreating going on and it’s him to the nether regions of the closet:

            http://www.joemygod.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/01/LadybirdLS.jpg

          • 2patricius2

Michelle has put on a lot of weight, it looks.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

Meanwhile, shocking no-one, it is rumored to be outright caucus chaos in Repubs’ land.

  • Sam_Handwich

    Jesus strikes the confederacy…

    • Good Shot Green

      In February?

      Climate change, what’s that?

      • Ninja0980

Actually, this is NOT out of the norm for that part of the country this time of year.
Mind you, climate change is still occurring but this isn’t a shocker.

        • Octavio

Why couldn’t we get the BIG GAY WEATHER MACHINE to take out Mitch McConnel?

          • Gene

I am reminded of the joke about Gods protection “I sent you a jeep..I sent you a boat…I sent you a helicopter” do you know it?
in this case, we have a FABULOUS steamroller…thats more than enough
            🙂

          • Joe knows who I am.

Because he’s full of hot air himself.

          • Octavio

            Mostly turtle farts.

        • Good Shot Green

          It’s still winter, innit?

          • Ninja0980

Yes but winters down there are different then up here… the snowstorms they are getting more and more… that is part of climate change.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Wait, can they blame this on gay marriage today?

      • Dan

They should have prayed harder for sunny weather. Besides, God was obviously aiming for Charlotte, North Carolina.

        • MDB

Their prayers didn’t reach our Joe.Almighty.and.All.Powerful.God.
(Prayer request signals don’t penetrate their tinfoil hats.)

        • Paula

Yeah, gawd got hammered doing Jello shots with Gabriel, again. His aim just goes all to hell.

    • MDB

Did He knock AFA off the air (permanently) in Tupelo yet ??? He should leave US in charge of the weather, dabgummit.

    • Cuberly

      And the Trumpnado in Nevada.

Turns out the NV caucus is f’d. Ballots with candidates not even running. And a laundry list of other messed up crap. (I’m not laughing…he he he.)

      http://www.mediaite.com/online/shtshow-political-twitter-flooded-with-problems-arising-from-nevada-caucuses/

      https://twitter.com/CahnEmily/status/702306197009883136

      • Hmm… Seems to me a prime opportunity to drag Santorum back into the race and make a little news. 😉

        • Cuberly

Ha! Wouldn’t that be awesome if he had actual results? He’d break a sweat post haste getting his sweater vest back on so he could go on his dyspeptic finger-wagging lecture tour part deux.

      • Dramphooey

I’ve heard of open primaries but open caucuses?

      • Voted yesterday in the Super Tuesday primary here in Texas. Our list of EIGHT Democratic candidates for president:

        • Cuberly

Whoa! Not in alpha order, and the dude that’s above Hillz has the same # of syllables in his name. Then there’s the same o-n at the end of his name as her’s.

          Oh TX…..(sigh)

That had to suck, sorry. 🙁

  • Sam_Handwich

    does hillary have a cold?

    • Oscarlating Wildely

Her voice is usually lower pitched but there is a nasal sound. Could be a cold.

    • Octavio

She was sick last Saturday. No doubt about it. She was coughing and was fighting the snot monster.

    • MDB

      She bneebs her bnose bmitten.

  • Oscarlating Wildely

Sorry, Chris Cuomo, you may be hotter than shit but Hillary is just controlling this session.

    • Gene

I can think of better ways to keep him from talking….yes…yes I can

      • Oscarlating Wildely

        …and I’m right behind you…

  • Htowndude

How many bankers did Obama put in jail? Oh that’s right, Eric Holder went to work for Wall Street.. Obama was tough of the people who crashed the economy all right.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Yeah, that and TPP are two things I really disagree with him about.

      • Octavio

What’s all this kerfuffle about Toilet Paper Product?

        • Oh, it’s the eternal disagreement between the camps devoted to double-ply versus quilted single-ply.

  • Octavio

Local bookies are predicting the chance of the Nevada GOP caucus being another voting mess and defaulting to a secret back room negotiation to be about 30%.The last caucus Mittens won all of the delegates, but the GOP insiders cast all the votes to Ron Paul. Remember him? They have no idea who showed up to vote in 2012. How do you spell L O S E R S?

    • Lazycrockett

      Primary or Bust!

      • Octavio

The procecure they have come up with to track and verify the caucus votes is something Rube Goldberg could not have imagined. Seriously. It’s beyond baroque.

  • Lazycrockett

What does Cuomo think, that Obama is just going to release the prisoners in Charleston and tell them to come back to jail before sundown?

    • Good Shot Green

The ‘national government’ in Libya is like the ‘national government’ in Somalia. In both cases, the same chaos. The Libyans were better off under Khaddafi, in spite of what Hillary is claiming.

    • MDB

It’s like the National or State government in Russia. It’s all Putin and his corrupt goon-squads, regardless of the labels.

  • MDB

I like this slower, more reasoned soft approach to public dialogue. I absolutely detest the he-said, she-said mud slinging shout-fests.

    • Sam_Handwich

      FUCK YOU PUSSY!!

      😀

      • MDB

        ; -///wipes-eyes/// Thanks Sammy –
Can I get a side of Sodomite Caesar salad and a Sam_Handwich with that (hold that guldarn Baloney) ???
        😉

        • Octavio

          and a light spread of Gulden’s German Mustard . . . puh-leeze? It’s so piquant.

          • MDB

            Aaaack …..What, no grey-poupon ???

          • Sam_Handwich

            but of course!

  • Kevin Perez

Okay, so Donald Trump was just on The Rachel Maddow Show. That was funzy.

    • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

Will we be reading soon that she was “not very nice” to him?

      • Unless she dropped to her knees and gobbled Donald’s knob right there on camera like Joe and Mika did the other day, he’ll call it “not very nice.”

      • Kevin Perez

Actually, Donald Trump said that he likes Rachel, especially her charts with the heads on the tops of the bars.

  • Octavio

Glenna Beck is speechifying in Summerlin, stumpin’ for Cruz, and Trump has just walked in, taken a microphone, and Glenna is suddenly squelched off the PA system. Wonderful. Absolutely wonderful. Sadly, no video of Glenna’s sour puss. You folks are missing it if you are unable to see it on the TEE VEE Machine. It is beyond funny. 🙂

    • Really-really? Wow…

    • Lazycrockett

Of course Trump does, he’s basically on MSNBC 24/7

    • ultragreen

I’m hoping it will become one large brawl.

    • Steven Leahy

what’s one of the Las Vegas stations covering it, so we can watch on their web site?

      • I think you can stream it directly from the CNN website.

      • Octavio

We’re watching channel 87 on DirecTV. I think it’s local feed.

        • MDB

Does that also come in on your tin-foil hat ?
          😉

          • Octavio

Had to use the tinfoil for the barbecue yesterday. We’re all out. Have had to resort to yea olde Magic 8 Ball.

          • MDB

However do you expect, then, to receive your weekly TV broadcast from Kolob to Henderson ???

          • Octavio

Heavens to betsy, no. I have no burning testimony that I’m am a crazy mormon fuck wad. LOL!

Sorry to hear that Nevada GOP’ers chose Trump.
            I am SHOCKED.

          • Octavio

“Shocked. Shocked, I say!” LOL! It’s the Republican’ts. Pay no attention.

          • Octavio

Heavens, no! We’re snobs but we’re not British! Good old Guldens — the mustard that made kielbasa edible — will do just fine. 🙂

          • MDB

Gulden’s is just a knockoff of “proper” mustard: Colman’s.
            Hmmmph.
            http://www.colmans.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/sites/8/2014/05/Colmans-Mustard-jar-72dpi.jpg

          • Octavio

Coleman’s is white trash mustard. Guldens is so much better. America’s Polish population cannot be wrong!

          • MDB

            Agreed.
Perhaps then, I could interest you in trying Rabbie’s Burnie hot and spicy mustard ?
            HRM would approve.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

Sounds hilarious. I’m hopeful youtube will have it somehow.

  • Steven Leahy

The Bernie campaign called me and asked me to participate in the Nebraska caucus Mar 5. So I get to go play Red Rover, Red Rover like we did in primary school. Dreading it but still better to participate in the political process than not. I wish we just had a primary vote.

    • Octavio

By all means do it! It’s fun. And yes, it is EXACTLY like Red Rover Red Rover send Bernie right over! Very good analogy. 🙂

  • Oscarlating Wildely

We’re having policy discussions on just war theory.
And they’re falling into a clusterfuck that makes Bedlam look like German trains.

  • Lazycrockett

God they are really going to ask her bout Beyonce. Yes Hillary just threw Shade at Beyonce.

i think it was about the state of american families, specifically african-american ones

      • Yeah, I heard that much, but I have no idea how a President is supposed to fix that when it’s such a broad topic. I mean, we have the economy, education, opportunities, justice system, etc. Asking a candidate about ‘the state of families’ is like asking an opinion about the weather.

            It’s not odd at all.

          • Dean

While studying linguistics at Georgetown we were taught that any child 12 or under that moves to an area with a different. language usually manages to speak the new language without an accent. Someone over 12 has a hard time getting the accent right.

My grandfather came over from the north of England at age 25. His accent never changed. At around age 65 he made a trip back to visit the old country. Everything had changed back there. Upon coming back to the states he suddenly started speaking like an American, and started referring to himself as an American, not a Brit..

The thing I simply cannot fathom is why GW Bush spoke with a Texas accent, while nobody else in the family did. That just doesn’t happen in normal families.

          • William

He picked up the accent while bankrupting companies out in west Texas.

    • Good Shot Green

      You no speaka ingalish?

    • JustDucky

That comes from living in the South. I have virtually no accent when talking to people who are from up North but if I’m talking to other Southerners my accent becomes significantly more pronounced. It’s not intentional.

I don’t like charter schools overall because I think all schools should be good and not just whoever is lucky to get in. Also, studies have been done showing that charter schools usually don’t do better than the regular schools.

    • ultragreen

No for-profit charter schools should be allowed; they are the absolute worst.

    • I don’t like them because they’re nearly all motivated by profit, not education quality and they’re sucking up taxpayer money which ought to be going to public schools.

    • MDB

The original concept was good. The implementation and the abuse of the charter school program is quite another scenario.

As should the respect. One of the hardest and most meaningful jobs out there. And how many teachers get treated like shit? (Um, Christie…..)

      • Octavio

I’m convinced that if there was compulsory government service after high school or age 18 for one or two years (remember the Draft?) where everyone, men, women, space aliens, had to serve as teacher assistants working in public schools that the education problem in this country would suddenly change for the better. Not necessarily because there would be more boots on the ground, but because those 17+ year-old high school grads would have a mean taste of how fucking hard it is to teach a class of 38-40 students.

        • Oscarlating Wildely

I had one ta who taught his first class solo as he entered a doctoral program. It took one day: “You are not allowed to have a headache, more less a bad day. This is really not easy at all.”

I fell into teaching elementary school when I interned as an ESL instructor at a Salt Lake School District. One of the teachers had a nervous breakdown at the end of November. There was no one to substitute except me. They literally took her away in an ambulance and pushed me into her class to keep order. By the end of that day I was ready to be taken away to a mental ward, too. It’s the hardest job I’ve ever had. And I loved it. Hated the smell of the kids, though. Smelly little buggers. 🙂

Forgiveness: awesome question from the poet laureate.

  • MDB

“Forgiveness says you are given another chance to make a new beginning.”

“Because forgiveness is like this: a room can be dank because you have closed the windows, you’ve closed the curtains. But the sun is shining outside, and the air is fresh outside. In order to get that fresh air, you have to get up and open the window and draw the curtains apart.”

~ Archbishop Desmond Tutu – Anglican Archbishop of Capetown S.A. (retired)

    • I cannot forgive those who do not ask to be forgiven, who believe their barbaric acts are somehow perfectly fine.

      • MDB

“Forgiving and being reconciled to our enemies or our loved ones are not about pretending that things are other than they are. It is not about patting one another on the back and turning a blind eye to the wrong.

True reconciliation exposes the awfulness, the abuse, the hurt, the truth. It could even sometimes make things worse. It is a risky undertaking but in the end it is worthwhile, because in the end only an honest confrontation with reality can bring real healing.

Superficial reconciliation can bring only superficial healing.”

        ― Desmond Tutu

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

I’m wary of forgiveness without conditions. I’ve seen the concept used against victims of abuse whose abusers were church elders/priests because then if the victims don’t forgive, they are then accused of being sinners.

Forgiveness should only be given if the abuser truly 1) accepts responsibility and not the “I’m sorry if you think I hurt you” garbage, 2) truly changes said behavior & learned from past actions and 3) makes restitution to the victim.

    • JustDucky

      4) and if the victims actually wants to offer forgiveness. It’s not something an abuser is entitled to just because he checks off all the right boxes. His victims owe him nothing.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

True. I’m of the camp that certain things are unforgivable and that if a victim wants no contact for the rest of eternity, that’s their right to demand it and have that demand respected. Often someone will cut contact with family or former friends not just to protect one’s self but to protect one’s new family.

        • JustDucky

Exactly. And the victim, not the abuser, gets to decide what qualifies as “unforgivable.”

    • MDB

I think my quote from Desmond Tutu bears repeating here.

It is a risky undertaking but in the end it is worthwhile, because in the end only an honest confrontation with reality can bring real healing.”

I agree the abusers MUST be held fully accountable and pay for their wrongs. I only wish my abuser would have lived to have been held accountable to me, my family and the justice system.

Forgiveness for me does not me “forgetness.” I’m still not sure I have fully healed from his abuse 50 years ago. I want to be, but the process did not happen….and life goes on. Damn.

      Goodnight my fellow flying monkeys.

I had no idea this would be on tonight. I think a lot of people didn’t know as well. Also, we pretty much know where they stand on issues. So it explains the decreased posting.

  • ultragreen

Still watching CNN: It’s kind of alarming how many Republicans are showing up to vote in these caucuses and primaries. I hope that doesn’t happen during the general election.

    • Skeptical_Inquirer

I think the GOP underestimated how angry people are with the party. It is terrifying because I think if Trump keeps winning but they foist a Rubio on them, it’s going to get violent and not just convention brawls but outside as well.

      • Oscarlating Wildely

        “it’s going to get violent.”
        It’s already violent I fear.

        • Skeptical_Inquirer

Well, more violent. What’s infuriating is that Trump himself is encouraging the violence.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

Oh yes, he’s fanning those flames. From encouraging protesters to be beaten to joking about attacks on the Qu’ran, he loves it. He adores it.

    • houstonray

Same thinking here, watching the news and it’s utter chaos in Nevada, they are saying the Republican party as woefully unprepared for the huge turnout. That DOES make me nervous for the Fall….president Trump? That gives me chills…

    • JustDucky

The folks at fivethirtyeight talked about that recently and what they said was reassuring – people are turning out to vote in the Republican primary because the Republican primary is more sensational. It doesn’t suggest they’ll turn out in the general, too.

  • Skeptical_Inquirer

Has anybody read The Name of the Rose by Umberto Eco? I’m so reminded of Brothers Williams’ discussions with other monks about politics, heresy and religion when it comes to the GOP.

    • Circ09

No. Saw the movie though. And I read Eco died this week. Thought he was already dead. Hate it when that happens.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

Never saw the movie though I know it had Sean Connery in it from the commercials years ago. It’s a very book full of mostly conversations so I’m having a hard time figuring out how they could film it.

        • Circ09

Eh. I would need to see it again to be honest. It didn’t leave much of an impression. However, in film school, we watched via satellite a series of lectures from Eco that was all about symbolism and cultural imagery that was wonderful and has always stayed with me. So I get what you are saying about the modern GOP.

          • Oscarlating Wildely

I know that this line is cliché and typical (save for The Exorcist):
            The book was much better.

      • sherman

I used to eat at a restaurant in Eberbach, Germany that had a picture of Sean Connery with the owner/cook on the wall. He ate there while filming the movie at the local abbey.

    • Oscarlating Wildely

I had a loving relationship with Eco when I was in Europe; I fell asleep each night and each train ride while reading him. I was quite sad when he died, his was a great mind.
And yes, that scene is very much apropos.

      • Skeptical_Inquirer

As an aside, I will never understand anybody who romanticizes that era. I’m not talking about Eco, just in general.

    • fuow

      • ByronK

No, let’s not give him a Breitbart-level reaction. So, Mr. Hall, how exactly do you see the USA currently being a “laughing stock to the world”? And I’m on the outside and spend vast amounts of time reading international media so I can probably give a fairly good evaluation of your claims. And specifically, how do you expect that Hillary would apparently make it worse? You see, it’s a bit hard to see where you’re going with this because, currently, the vast majority if not all of the current humour is focused on your Republican candidates. Most of the world is gobsmacked that these are your top picks and although it is often so absurd as to be humorous, it’s turning just plain scary. But the scary part for some of us watching extends into the jaw-dropping attempts at the state level to actively battle against LGBT rights, the religious nutbars calling for criminalization and even capital punishment for sexual orientation or gender identity, and the fact that some of those things are seeping into the Republican campaigns. Now, I know, I’m sure that last thing you expected was all these questions and issues when you tried your quick little drive by driveling, but don’t throw a ball into the field and not expect to be thrown back to you. So, step up bucky.

        • JustDucky

That one’s easy: he means he thinks the rest of the world is laughing at us now for having a black man as President and he thinks they’ll laugh at us more if we elect a woman. He doesn’t understand that the racism and misogyny that taint his limited understanding of the world aren’t universal.

          • steve hall

He won’t, though. He’ll be voting for Trump. A lot of the Tea Baggers down this way, including the ones who go on frothing rants about socialism, would prefer President Sanders over President Clinton. Because they are that invested in having “the right kind of person” (read: a white man) back in the White House.

          • canoebum

Until such time as a court of law finds her guilty of committing a crime, your claim is nothing but propaganda. And ugly propaganda at that.

            hahahaha

          • ByronK

Now, now Steve, calm yourself. You see, you post a single anti-Clinton context without any explanation or context on a site that it is pretty to safe has a strong Democratic leaning and yet now you’re complaining because people made assumptions about you? You said don’t vote for Hillary, not vote for Bernie or as you now claim, anyone but Hillary. That kind of leaves the barn door open for the suggestion of support for a Republcian candidate. And even when I asked you to explain your comment, did you? Nope. You just call Clinton a criminal and declare yourself infalable. But in the end, as you say, so fucking what. Just don’t wear Gaga’s meat dress and run screaming through a crowd of vegetarians and act surprised and complain when you get a reaction.

          • steve hall

“Anyone but Clinton”, THERE IS ONLY ONE OTHER OPTION, it is not the general election.

Gotta have more debates! Gotta have more! More! More!! MORE!!!

CNN had a town hall last night. No one is talking about it. NO ONE. Well,
except CNN. Pundits at CNN are breathless over the fact that neither
candidate has said nothing new for several weeks now.

You know, for all this hand-wringing and qvetching and nervous
tap-dancing that’s going on presently among the republican hierarchy as
they worry about the bloated juggernaut that is Donald Trump, there is a
very simple solution to their problem of How Oh How Do We Stop Trump?

    Vote Democrat.
