Texas Gov To Obama: Come Try And Take My Gun

From the Associated Press:

Texas Gov Greg Abbott criticized President Barack Obama’s plan to move ahead with possible executive actions on guns in a tweet in which he told the Commander-in-Chief to ‘come & take’ the state’s guns. Obama said in his weekly radio address that he is looking for ways to keep guns out of the hands of ‘a dangerous few’ without depending on Congress to pass a law on the fraught subject of gun control.

He plans to meet his attorney general, Loretta Lynch, on Monday to see what executive actions might be possible. Steps to strengthen background checks could come this week. At a rally in Biloxi, Mississippi, Donald Trump also pledged to undo any action Obama takes on gun control if he wins the next election. Trump said: ‘He can’t do that. I will veto that. I will unsign that so fast, so fast.’

Open carry became legal in Texas on New Year’s Day.

Ugh, isn’t Texas a nice place though?

    What is Austin like people?

    • FAEN

The blue dot in a sea of red I hear.

      • Duane Dimitrov

Yeah, but the guys in TX are soooooo cute.

        • FAEN

They certainly are cute guys in TX. I will admit that.

          • Duane Dimitrov

            What is with that?

          • FAEN

The water mixed with a little craziness?

    • People4Humanity

It’s a blueberry in a field of cranberries. It has Hippie Hollow, a clothing-optional lakeside park, a laid-back university town atmosphere, and lots of young folks.

      • Duane Dimitrov

        I’ll take it!

    • Avenger280

2016 marks 9 years I have lived in Austin. As infuriating and backward redneck as Texas can be (trust me. I was born and grew up in Louis Gohmert’s district o_O) I can’t imagine living anywhere else!

      • Duane Dimitrov

        Hmmm, interesting.

  • Gerry Fisher

Unless you’re a psychotic or violent person trying to buy a new one at a gun show, you’re good. You can chill, now. (But you knew that anyway, didn’t you? Douche.)

    • FAEN

      So most of Texas then.

      • Queequeg

I saw a graphic, not sure if it was here or another site, showing Texas as being consistent, days withou being a national embarrassment=0.

        • FAEN

          Sounds about right.

  • Jean-Marc in Canada

I can only roll my eyes in disgust at this trite, abeit wholly transparent, bit of martyrdom Kabuki. Seriously Governor, this minor attempt at some degree of rational gun safety is hardly worthy of the such a Drama Queen response……then again, it’s all you morons have left, isn’t it?

    • skeptical_inquirer

What I despise so much about this is that they whip up the insanity then go “Oh noes, I had noting to do wid dat awful awful massacre!” when violence inevitably happens.

      • Nic Peterson

He’s not going to stand for any gun control imposed by an uppity Muslim dictator.

Greg-I was going to say POTUS doesn’t want your gun but seeing as how bat shit paranoid you are maybe he should. Who the hell do you think is going to attack you at a SB or a grocery store? Get a grip already.

    • Mark

Maybe a tack strip?? One tack strip would leave him pretty much impotent.

  • HZ81

Another right-wing treasonous asshole spits on the highest office in the land of the country he claims to love. Scumbag. Greg, take your precious guns to Oregon and join your terrorist buds.

    • His email actually sounds like a threat based on something that the NRA rather than a legitimate politician would say. Any normal politician would want to be a part of a solution, to review current legislation, and to be part of the due diligence against any citizens being harmed in the future. If he doesn’t agree with the President then use the lobbying processes that are in place to persuade the argument he has.

      • HZ81

Indeed. Sounds like a threat to me. Again, to the democratically elected President of the country these goons claim to love.

The Republican party is a right-wing fringe group.

        • You are right. The GOP are like a National Front of the US. With so much anger and hatred you just cannot get them round a table to have a serious discussion. Hate is infectious and many naive Americans just pander to it like excited bullies in a playground.

      • RoFaWh

The NRA is,, imo, a subversive organization, an un-American organization dedicated to the overthrow of the national government.

        • Ginger Snap

And profit lots and lots of profit.

    • Mark

That big mouthed motherfucker ain’t going to do jack shit unless somebody wheels him out to the parking lot. He’s all mouth – and no fucking spine.

  • Gustav2

You don’t know what the fuck the president is going to do, asshole. Everything I have read is about closing loopholes in purchases, not confiscation. But be the big man standing up to what is not going to happen.

    • FAEN

Yeah but speaking the truth doesn’t get all the uninformed nut bags to go even nuttier which is exactly what Greg wants.

    • People4Humanity

” But be the big man standing up to …”

But be the big man sitting idly by while …

  • lukefromcanada

um, you’re not important enought for him to care about. get over yourself

  • MikeBx2

The only possible way I’ll get through this election year with any sanity left, is if Obama will do something weekly that helps our country while simultaneously causes the teabaggers heads to explode. Executive action on guns is a great place to start.

  • Wynter Marie Starr

My, someone is full of himself. I doubt Obama would know this hillbilly if he walked right by him.

They may be an easier target, but even a pointed “cop killer” bullet would have a devil of a time making it through the fat before hitting anything important.

And the militia guys who’ve taken over the Federal Office in Oregon better be well stocked with food & supplies. The best solution to get them out of there is to cut the power and all other resources to and from the building and just wait them out.

      • tcinsf

There’s a new law this year that allows certain family members to petition the Court to have guns removed (I think temporarily) from a relative who poses a threat. Came about because the parents of the kid who shot up Isla Vista tried to get help and were thwarted. I consider this to be sensible gun control -get guns away from a person who’s family recognizes a problem. We also have a new law that BB guns and similar toy type weapons have to have bright colors to clearly mark them as toys to try to prevent cops and others from mistaking them for real threats. More rationale gun control laws. I’m all for rationale behavior, AND rationale laws.

I live in Newport Beach, CA and I once had a guy ask me to clarify the specific zip code of Newport Beach in which I lived. When I asked why, he said “Because I want to know if you live in the ‘nice part’ of Newport Beach.” I was so disgusted; there is no ‘bad part’ in Newport Beach and I know what the idiot was referring to. He wanted to know if I was a ‘zillionaire’ or not. Gross! I’ve also noticed that now people ask in addition to ‘What do you do?’ but ‘What is your title?’ Thankfully I’ve been married for the last fifteen years and my husband and I laugh it off when we encounter these types but I always wonder, what if I was single and had to deal with this on a serious level?

  • Brian in Valdosta

Future generations will look back on this period in our nation’s history and collectively roll their eyes at the stupid histrionics on the part of politicians like Gov Abbott (among many others) and other public figures and prominent conservative personalities as they grandstand and strut around like a bunch of junkyard dogs. And Pres Obama will be lauded for the calm, measured approach that he has always taken.

My older brother says that he is ashamed of how Pres Obama is “weak” and won’t “stand up” to our perceived enemies in the world. I asked him what exactly he expected of a president? That he should send black ops or whole platoons to every country that insulted the U.S.? Or perhaps he should just sit back and watch as bombs rain down on innocent civilians and watch as their cities are reduced to rubble all because a very small minority chooses the path of terrorism and extremism?

I point out that we have extremists and terrorists here, too. What should Pres Obama do about them? Turn our country into a Police State? If he did that, he would be labeled a despot and dictator, which many have already done even though he has shown more restraint than any GOP president.

My brother says he will vote for Trump when the time comes, because he just “can’t trust Hillary”, because (he says) she seems “too conniving”. I think what he means is: she is too capable and intelligent. My brother has always had a tough time with strong, confident women. I try to get him to imagine our country with Trump in the Oval Office, try to get him to see what the world would be like with him as “Leader of the Free World”. He doesn’t get it.

    • skeptical_inquirer

I’m reminded of people who don’t get that if every single member of a hated minority vanished, they wouldn’t get an automatic raise in any part of their life. They’d still live in a shack or crappy apartment, their wages would still stagnate and the rich people too snooty to talk to them now would STILL not acknowledge their existence. They would not suddenly become media stars or fabulously wealthy, they’d just lose a scapegoat.

      • grada3784

in 1492, when Spain expelled the Jews and Muslims, there was a momentary blip of prosperity for some. Very short-lived and then it was down hill. Same sort of blip in late 1930’s Germany, but WW2 interfered to drive the Germans down hill quicker.

        • skeptical_inquirer

I’m reminded of Idi Amin throwing the Indians out of Uganda but ended up tanking his economy because a lot of them ran businesses. You can’t eat or live on schaedenfreude.

Just like Mugabe did in Zimbabwe.

    USA
the only country in the civilised world where citizens wander about armed.

Civilisation means you don’t have to be prepared to apply lethal force in the street (except, maybe police and army). However, with the number of weapons swilling around in all sorts places, it’s probably irredeemable now, short of major action

    • Mark

      A pretty clear 20-20 observation

    • FAEN

We seem to have the largest paranoid population of industrialized nations. I hope at some point we grow out of this ridiculous way of thinking.

  • Stev84

Asshole needs to use his penis substitute on himself

    • William

Abbot fought a court ruling that lifted the ban on ‘artificial penises’.

Republican Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott defended the dildo ban,
arguing that the state had “morality based” reasons for the law,
including “discouraging prurient interests in autonomous sex and the
pursuit of sexual gratification unrelated to procreation.” Following the
5th Circuit ruling, Abbott’s office requested a rehearing en banc, but
      the court declined.

      http://www.lonestarq.com/fact-check-dildos-really-illegal-texas/

      • Joseph Miceli

Arguments based on procreation don’t seem to work at the Federal level or we wouldn’t be able to get married. Abbott doesn’t seem to be a very clear thinker. Of course, he is a conservatard….

        • William

He also said that dildos (oes?) could cause miscarriages, by dislodging fetuses.

To be fair, Abbott did have a tree fall on him.

          Better aim next time.

          • FAEN

OMFG! I don’t know what else to say.

          • When the trees are turning against you, it’s time to acknowledge you might be a worthless human.

      • That is one uptight guy about sex.

        • Ed Burrow

you gotta stand up for your beliefs!

          • MDB

            That was oh, so bad.
            😉

          • Ed Burrow

Did I mention I typed that while I’m using a dildo? I’m not, but anything to make Abbott freak out. I wonder if he’s got Firestone’s on that bad boy…

          • OH! That’s both mean and funny!

Come sit closer, I think we could be good friends.

  • William

“They” should shoot out his tires… with an MGM-140 Army Tactical Missile System (ATacMS).

  • Expect Texans with below average willie size to purchase larger guns now that Texas has open carry. And the truly petite will barricade themselves in anticipation of the much dreaded Obama executive action invasion.

    • ConnieHinesDorothyProvine

Not just below-average willy size. Below-average IQ. Meaning that they’ll very likely accidentally aim the guns at their willies and accidentally pull the trigger.

  • Joseph Miceli

O.k, I have to say…isn’t the Governor in a wheel chair? If Obama was VERY quite and sneaked up behind him, he could probably get Greg’s gun.

    • Robincho

Or at least release the brake…

  • Queequeg

I’m sure Obama can outmaneuver him, both physically and intellectually.

  • Blake J Butler

Makes me think they are a lot of crazies and terrorists with guns in Texas that don’t want to be denied a gun. If they reject background checks, makes me think the gun owners in Texas have something to hide, if they reject even background checks.

Btw this guy has been waiting for 7 years for obama to take their guns away, and nothing has happened, and no one will, it’s just paranoia to arm more people than they already are.

  • Galvestonian

IDIOT, STUPID, CHILDISH & just oh so typical Texas Republican – most republican males here in Texas figure they have bigger balls that the rest of the country but would be the first to avoid the draft if it was back in place. Don’t lump all of Texas with these asshats – it’s the ‘good ‘ol boy network’ and corruption that keeps them in positions of what they think is power. They’re all lieing, theivin’ bigots.

    • Robert Conner

Sorry, Galvestonian, but it’s not the good ol’ boy network. It’s the voters of the state of Texas. I’ve said it here and said it in print: Texas is North America’s largest free range insane asylum.

      • bitwise

I’m posting this from downtown Houston and this is pretty much true. Virtually everyone in my office is convinced that somehow Obama will try and take their guns. I’ve tried to point out the insanity of this belief, how even if he wanted to theres no way for this to happen, but I get dismisssed as “naive” for living in an evidence-based reality.

  • Captain Jack

Haven’t they been saying this for the past 7 years…it’s getting really old!

In a way I don’t mind if they have guns, but I just want them to kill other people with guns! That way eventually they will all be either dead or in hiding… Ha!

  • Ed Burrow

does anyone else wonder if Obama has looked around this country, taken a big swig of beer, a big hit off a bong, and just thought….”Holy crazy hell, there are some righteous idiots here!!”

    • Phillip in L.A.

and just thought….”Jeez, I hate this job!”

    • David L. Caster

I really would like to see him say that last part at the conclusion of a particularly biting paragraph the summed up the state of political discourse and the ignorance of those that would willingly vote against their own best interests. All on national television.

  • fuzzybits
  • Robert Conner

So Greg Abbott self identifies with the “dangerous few” Obama referred to? It must be Self Awareness Week down in Austin.

  • Alan43

“Abbott then added ‘Nyah Nyah! Can’t make me!'”

Good Lord. Is he running Texas with the aid of Costello or what?

  • kiltedyak

Noticed he didn’t have the balls to tag Obama or the White House in the tweet….Hmm Honestly the man has issues

  • Steven B

to me. isn’t threatening the president of federal offense?

  • Dana Chilton

Isn’t that sedition? How can he make a threat against the president?

    • Episonix

How can he ? Millions of white americans have been threatening Obama ever since he became president.
      How can they?
      Easy. White Supremacy.

  • sonoitabear

So, basically Greg Abbott has issued an invitation to anyone entering his office to be openly armed…

    • Mark

I hear he breaks into the sweats and shakes just seeing a tack strip at Home Depot….

  • Robincho

Abbott’s not funny. Even with Costello, he was never funny…

  • Silver Badger

How does President Obama meeting with Loretta Lynch to discuss gun control equate with total confiscation?

    • Ed Burrow

      it just does, ok?!

      • Silver Badger

No. Not ok. I am tired of these whining people and their afraid of the dark attitude.

  • TheSpinMonkey

    Stupid people hurt my brain

  • I take a break from shopping for a bullet proof vest before the spring semester begins to point out that there’s no chance the Obama’s executive action will be even 2% as strong a ban as the Brady Bill. No one is coming for Abbot’s gun and he knows that no one is but he can demagogue and fearmonger on that and there are plenty of idiots here in Texas who will freak out and run off to buy even more guns.

  • TheManicMechanic

A reaction like Obama is threatening to cut of his penis.

    Oh, wait…

    • M Jackson

      BAM!

  • Jacob

    He is.

  • Happy_Housewife

Just think…… if more regular people voted (or, in some cases, were allowed to vote) we wouldn’t have to listen to crazies like this guy.

  • Not a problem, shitstain. He’s the President of the United States. You’re just a miserable asshole who can’t even wipe himself without his head getting in the way.

    Bye, Felicia.

  • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

And Texans elected this instead of Wendy Davis?

Fact check: Obama can’t take your guns through executive orders. At best, he could reinforce background checks and some regulations concerning the “no-fly” list.

    • William

Jade Helm was all about taking our guns, except that part never happened.

    • Paige Turner

      Thats the plan

  • His house, land, car, insurance, marriage, etc. is regulated and no one is taking those from him. He’s trying to pass off the lie that any more regulation is tantamount to an all-out ban.

    • Tempus Fuggit

Yeah, let’s take a quick ‘n’ close look at an analogy between gun control and cars & driving: The car and driver must be insured. The car must be registered, which can’t be done if its paperwork is out of order or the driver has outstanding offenses. There’s annual tax and fees associated with registration. The driver must be trained and licensed, and that license and insurance can be revoked for misuse. In 49 US states (including Texas!) and most of the civilized world, all users of the vehicle must use their seatbelts. The car must be operated safely at all times, in compliance with numerous rules of the road, which the driver is held responsible for knowing and obeying. The driver must not drive while distracted, intoxicated, or otherwise impaired. Most states communicate about driving records, so there’s no moving across a state line to “erase” misdeeds. The car must be kept in safe condition. The car must conform to stringent safety, emissions, and theft-resistance standards; it is a federal crime to sell, import, or introduce into interstate commerce a roadgoing vehicle that doesn’t comply—even if its importer, seller, buyer, owner, and all drivers swear on a stack of bibles they’re only ever going to drive it on private property. It is likewise a federal crime to remove, disable, or render inoperative any mandatory item or design feature of vehicle safety, theft-resistance, or emissions compliance. Manufacturers and importers are held responsible for their certifications of vehicle safety, theft-resistance, and emissions compliance; false certification, improper certification, and inadequate durability of compliance are punished harshly with mandatory recalls and civil penalties (viz VW at the moment; GM and Toyota and Ford and Takata in very recent memory). Every vehicle bears its unique identification number (VIN), indelibly applied to numerous specified locations—some of which are public knowledge and others of which aren’t—and VIN tampering is an extremely serious crime. And the regulations aren’t static, either; they are upgraded in accord with advancing knowledge and technology.

Yet despite allllllllllll that regulation, only a few screwloose lunatics bleat and whine about
their freedom being infringed by over-regulation of cars and driving, and only the lunatic fringe of that lunatic fringe call such regulation unconstitutional by dint of infringing the right of the people to travel unhindered upon the public rights of way. H’mmmm.

  • JustDucky

This “come and take it” posturing is breathtakingly stupid. Someone needs to ask him what exactly he thinks would happen if the Commander-in-chief of the United States military took him up on that. Who does he think he’s fooling by waving his little pea shooter?

    • Mark

I got a feeling that Obama + the marines would outnumber Abbot and his faithful pea-shooters.

  • charemor

    Another Tex-ass shithead.

  • TheSpinMonkey

    • houstonray

As a Texan, I’ll sign! God this state embarrasses me more often than not…

    • Mark

If I thought it had half a chance – I’d sign it in a heartbeat. Abbot, Perry – either of them just fucking gag me…..and not in a good way.

  • houstonray

Two words…Jade Helm. Two more…Dumb Ass.

  • Bj Lincoln

If the government came to his door and insisted he hand over his guns, he would shit himself and go get them. Trump needs to just STFU and he can’t just unsign something like that. I REALLY wish Obama would sign some kind of gun control. Not just to break the stale mate between the greedy government employees and the NRA, but to piss off the greedy government employees and ass holes like Abbott.

  • Richard B

Texas Gov Greg Abbott is compensating for his inadequate penis…

  • Rocco

Didn’t Obama already send the military in to take their guns in some special operation that involved empty wallmarts? I forgot what it was called. I will never understand the fascination with guns.

I grew up on a farm and we had shot guns locked in a gun safe which was in a locked closet and they only came out after the first crop of hay was brought in. They were used to kill groundhogs because their borrow hole mounds dameged farm equipment. My brothers used to hunt but never came home with anything it was more about going to the cabin and drinking.

I have owned a gun mysf (a gift from an ex) he thought it would be a nice gift to protect myself since I was so “fey” he was worried about me. I shot it only once at a shooting range with my eyes closed. I sold it promptly after he left me. I will never ever own another firearm and do not ever see the need to own one. Sorry I do go on sometimes.

    • Yesterday while visiting my 90 year old mother and her husband the subject of guns came up…I guess because of this ridiculous Texas thing. The (not my) stepdad opined some rubbish about the attack in Paris would never had happened if people had had guns with them. I was able to remain silent for about 10 seconds before I loudly spoke up about that particular ammofantasy pointing out how the hell would the police know who were the “bad” guys and who were the “good” guys if everybody was shooting? The reply…the “bad” guys would have been killed/subdued before the authorities arrived…because good guys with guns are heroic crack-shots just like they are in the movies I suppose? The Rambo-syndrome is alive and well thanks to Fox Network “News”
