New Marco Rubio Ad: I’m Running For Millions Of Christians Who’ve Been Branded As Bigots [VIDEO]

CNN reports:

Marco Rubio is making a play for “traditional values” voters with a new campaign ad targeting those who Rubio says “feel out of place in our own country.” “A government incredibly out of touch, and millions with traditional values branded bigots and haters,” Rubio said.

The pitch is a pointed appeal to the Republican Party’s social conservative base, which is critical to success in the Republican primary, and has been energized in recent years by political fights over same-sex marriage, religious liberty and abortion.

  • GreenEyedLilo

I hear this and think he definitely is *not* running for me, and I know I’m not the only person who feels that way.

  • TampaZeke

Which just means he’s running on behalf of bigoted Christians.

  • Sk3ptic

An astounding, breathtaking inability to “take a look at yourself and you can look at others differently.”

  • oikos

Not just branded but are in fact bigots.

    • Prion

      .,,.

      • oikos

        Exactly!

    • Schlukitz

If bigots object to being called bigots, I suspect that the day is not far off when convicted killers will object to being called murderers.

      • oikos

If they are republicans, that day has already arrived.

    • 2karmanot

      Bigots warer boi!

    • NeverEclipsed

Usually if he moves that quick his Dumbo sized ears could take flight, that’s why he got so scared. Lucky for him he stayed on the ground.

  • Octavio

In short, he’s a bigot running for bigots everywhere. That’s nice.

  • Rebecca Gardner

Bigots really hate being called bigots don’t they.

    • Rebecca Gardner

Also, they keep using the same arguments over and over and over again, they just find a new target to hate once society moves past them.

      • bkmn

But the GOP doesn’t know how to change, or at the very least, refuses to change.

        • Thankfully most of their base already has one foot in the grave. Time is on our side.

          • bkmn

But they have been very successful at planting the seed of hatred in the next generation.

        • Ty Richey

Why are you liberals so insistant on other people changing to be like you?! You do not get it that this attitude makes you 2 faced and intolerable! Live your own damn life and we will live ours! Start forcing crap on us with one foot in the grave as the A-hole says, such as non gender bathrooms and you crossed the line!

          • Doug105
          • bkmn

We liberals are always open to compromise, unlike those on the right. It is very easy for you to demonize those you don’t know, haven’t talked to and are not aware of what we have or have not gone through. It is the right that wants everyone to live as they do and anyone who wants to take a different path is branded “librul” and discarded by those on the right. I see the right as being the intolerant ones.

      • teeveedub

They find new targets, but they don’t move past the old ones. They still want women to be second class citizens, they still hate queers, and don’t even get me started on the GOP approach to race. Today’s target may happen to be Muslims (or “Mooozlums,” because that sounds scarier), but they’ll jump at the first opportunity to denigrate the other groups, should the occasion arise.

Note that the list is all Mrs and Misses.

        • GC

And notice how all the Mrs.’s don’t have first names of their own; they’re subsumed under their husbands’ names.

          • Franciscan

Well, that was a hundred years ago. And as Miss Manners will tell you, the accepted and proper usages for married women have changed somewhat over that period of time. Still I’m sure these pillars of society thought of themselves as Ladies and not Wimmen.

        • charliebkk

Not only that, but they are all “Mrs. John, Mrs. Edgar”, etc. The practice of a woman referring to herself as “Mrs. John Smith” is one of the more bizarre (and self-belittling) customs of our civilization.

    • Schlukitz

Amen. The truth does NOT set them free.

    • Billanddogs

Holy cow (no pun intended), that was a surprise. I created that a couple of years ago but then lost it. I’ve wanted to use it many times since and now, here it is. Thank you.

      • Rebecca Gardner

I probably stole it from you because I thought it was genius. Please steal it back and spread it far and wide. Thank you too!

      ‘.’

    • Duane Dimitrov

You think these bigots don’t know that?

They’re trying to skew the conversation so far they can push their real agenda, which isn’t even about “marriage,” or “religious freedom,” it’s about them dominating others.

    • Octoberfurst

      Nailed it!

  • Gustav2

You are not “Values Voters,” you are conservative religionists wanting to force your particular dogma on all American citizens.

  • Blake Jordan

If you think your chosen religion (beliefs) should be forced on others, you are a bigot.

    • Gustav2

      And un-American.

  • AJ Drew

Or… A *congress* and sadly now, a *senate* sadly out of touch with actual American foundation values… the voices looming large right now are not truly representative of America, they truly aren’t, they’re just loud.

Time for the rest of us to get louder… and for all of us to vote.

  • jmax

THIS is the very definition of pandering.

  • bkmn
    • radiofreerome

This is exactly what I thought of.

      • Ron Robertson

        Same here!

        • Steve Teeter

          Ditto.

    • 2karmanot

      BINGO!

  • Joseph Miceli

Yes, your traditional value is bigotry.
    Next!

  • BlueberriesForMe

Branded correctly and truthfully as bigots. Thanks, Marco.

    • JCF

But they’re not “branded” nor even (close 2nd) coercively marked like this (below). This just don’t want people using their free speech rights to CALL them “bigots”. Tough tuchas, BIGOTS!!

  • Gustav2

This is a good strategy to win the primary, but will not help when your clip is repeated in the general by your opponents.

  • Lakeview Bob

But Blanche, YOU ARE A BIGOT Blanche. You are!

  • Blake Jordan

So much pandering, he would be a protected species in China…

  • Marc

“Have you tried not being a bigot?”

    • Ed Burrow

That reminds me of a line In X-men 2. When Iceman’s mom found out he’s a mutant and asked, “can you just stop being a mutant”?

      • Marc

That scene was right where my head went when reading what Rubio’s rant

  • Tor

And he claims to be the future of the GOP. I’m sure he’ll capture the young people vote with talk like that.

  • Lakeview Bob

    From WIKIPEDIA:

In English the word “bigot” refers to a person whose habitual state of mind includes an obstinate, irrational, or unfair intolerance of ideas, opinions, ethnicities, or beliefs that differ from their own, and intolerance of the people who hold them.

  • DirtyPierre

It will be very revealing to see how that translates into actual votes.

  • Friday

Umm, Rubio, you *hired* some quite blatant Christianist haters and bigots *for* your religious campaign staff. And your own policies and words show you’re a Christianist bigot too, bent on taking away hard-won equality from LGBT Americans and non-Christian Americans, and women, etc etc. If you don’t want to be ‘branded’ you shouldn’t be making that bigotry and hatred your *branding*

and then acting all ‘reverse persecuted’ if the mainstream of America doesn’t look the other way.

  • Paula

Oh, Marco, you silly pendejo. This isn’t new, people have know for centuries that x-tians are bigots…. Only now, you are being called on it. Don’t look for it to stop, either.

  • Steven B

You are being labeled a bigot and a hater because that’s exactly what you are. If the shoe fits….

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

Going for the pathetic vote. He sounds so pitiful when he says, “I’m Marco Rubio”.

  • Happy Dance

WOW! He is going to be representing a HUGE base. He found the right group to market to!

  • DaveW

Do why does npr label him a mainstream candidate?

He is squarely with the wacko religious fringe.

Pataki is probably the only mainstream (maybe kasich too but a crazy christer)
one in the bunch and look how well he is doing.

    • Necessitas

NPR is a mess. They have on Peter Sprigg, the head of an SPLC certified hate-group to debate marriage equality, which is the equivalent of having on the head of the KKK on to discuss racial equality.

NPR’s institutionalized homophobia is clearly on display for anyone who can see.

  • The Professor

    Yawn.

  • Gene Perry

Translation: I’m getting my ass whopped in Iowa because the evangelicals are supporting Cruz so I’m gonna try bashing gays to get a rise in my poll numbers!

    • Chucktech

THIS. I was gonna say Cruz already has this “Values” Voters simpletons already sewn up.

      • Michael Rush

We have to hope that phony “Values” Voters will be a minority for the rest of history .

        • GC

Or, meanwhile, that they’ll split the right-wing vote into certain defeat — especially if Trump runs as an independent!

  • delk

    Just a friendly reminder!

Next time you go to the Homosexual Lobby, the branding irons are located next to the Agenda kiosk.

  • rextrek1

awe poor Marco…….drudging things up to garner votes from the LOSER BIGOTS……..

  • delk

    Or, in other words:

If I somehow make it out of the primaries with the nomination, watch me deny that I ever said such things.

    • Chucktech

Just like Romney’s little “Etch-a-Sketch” metaphor that blew up in his face.

  • Ron Robertson

How many republicans does it take to change a lightbulb? None, they’re opposed to change.

    • Bad Tom

They would rather sit in the dark.

  • edrex

What an astute grasp of the important problems the US is facing. Pendejo!

  • Rick

Oh just fuck right off back to the underside of that rock your crawled out from under.

  • Bad Tom

Sorry, Rubio, if we consider those trying to take our rights as citizens away as bigots. It’s not just a difference of opinion about how you should run YOUR life, is it?

  • Ben in Oakland

Who is branding you a bigot, Rube? Your fellow Americans?

  • Cosmo Tupper

Only those who think they should force their particular religious tenets on 100% of the population are bigots. The ones whom are willing to live and let live while continuing to practice their religion personally, without foisting it on others, while respecting other’s personal beliefs are NOT bigots and are embraced by all – but the bigots, of course.

    • AJ Drew

Yup, but it depends on which religion. Sharia law = bad, but for Rubio et al… Christian(ist) theocracy? No problem, there… heh.

  • Ed Burrow

You know, when you boil it down, this whole thing can be divided into anti gay and pro gay. We’re still a fucking wedge issue. Sigh.

    • pickypecker

Perhaps some older tactics should be employed?

So, not being allowed to marry who you love, and always being at risk of being fired for who you love, ISN’T feeling out of place in your own country?

  • RoFaWh

Don’t want to be branded as a bigot and a hater? Then don’t engage in bigotry or hatred.

  • Sorry but those ‘millions’ of bigots aren’t enough to put you in the White House. The American Christian ISIS is a terrorist organization. Run them out of America.

  • 2karmanot

    Buttcha are Blanch………………

  • Robert C

Fortunately this well is drying up. I don’t think this strategy will be as successful as it was in the past, at least for the general election.

    • Chucktech

Dare we dream that America has had a gut full o’ Jesus and are finally getting sick of Him?

      • NancyP

Actually, the problem is that the Christianists haven’t actually found Him, can’t recognize Him. The Christianists worship what they see in the mirror.

      • Robert C

More like those who buy into this crap are dying off. You can’t fix stupid.

  • RGG

“The pitch is a pointed appeal to the Republican Party’s social conservative base, which is critical to success in the Republican primary” What a joke. The “Social Conservative Base” is the cause of the Republican Party implosion.

      • Hank

And WHAT “THREAT” did German Jews pose to the German nation or people?? German Jews had lived in Germany peacefully and considered themselves Germans for 1-2 centuries. Hitler made them the scapegoats, along with the Catholic Church, for the failure of the German Governments to recover financially from their failure in WWI and the depression. It was his way to GAIN POWER!!!

        • NeverEclipsed

I know I was using it as an example of evangelicals wanting to “protect” America from gay people. It wasn’t the best comment to make but it was a reply and you can’t delete on disqus.

          • Hank

Understand now. However, it IS important to try to remember history accurately. Most people tend to forget, what took place in history and the real historical significance. It is also relevant, when it is being repeated! ;(

          • stuckinthewoods

I read your comment, was surprised then took it as implied snark in comparing the two.

  • NeverEclipsed

I know this is a whisper rumor, and not at all proven.. so disclaimer, or “allegedly”.. But there are tons of rumors that he’s had an affair and perhaps a love child, one rumor suggests he’s had 2. Helps explain why his finances are so bad, a man who wants to run the country had to admit he’s bad at book-keeping.. just saying. Also he has big ears 😛

If you’re going to use your God as an excuse to destroy the lives of millions of Americans, It seems like the least you can do is prove your God actually exist.

or at least provide credible evidence.

      • GC

Why should we care about his god if she/he/it can’t take care of judgments without his help?

(One possible answer is in Harold Kushner’s book When Bad Things Happen to Good People, which describes Rabbi Kushner’s transition to believing in a caring but not omnipotent god, who’s as saddened and outraged as we are at injustice and tragedy in the world.))

  • AJ Drew

Shall we dissect what he actually says in this commercial? Cuz dog-whistle aside, there’s a lot easily dismissed factually:

“This election is about the essence of America,
About all of us who feel out of place in our own country…

A government incredibly out of touch…

    And millions with traditional values
    branded as bigots and haters.

This is about wages growing slower than the cost of living.
    A generation drowning in debt.

And a President humiliated by Putin, Iran, and Islamic jihadists.

    I’m Marco Rubio.

I approved this message, because this is about the greatest country in the world… and acting like it.”

Please join me in debunking Rubio’s message.

But, oh, I have a job and need to go to work… sorry Rubio… I have a job and I have health insurance despite a “pre-exisiting condition” thanks to Obama (and truly, thanks to Romney… choke on that,) and I need to go now… but oh, I’ll be back with actual *facts*.

  • Zoey

Isn’t Rubio he being bankrolled by the Hedgefund Billionaire Paul Singer. That and Rubio got caught lying about most tax cuts benefiting the 1%. Yeah, I’m sure falling wages would be a real priority.

Obergefell is the law of the land, county clerks will have to issue marriage licenses, no matter what sky daddy you worship, and you can’t use your religion as a excuse to do a simple business transaction that in no way, shape or form, violates your “beliefs” and here is my heartfelt statement to Marco Rubio and to all the conservatives out there……..

  • Rockola404

Yet isn’t Rubio pandering more to the worshippers of the grouchy St. Paul? I’m not sure if the term is Paulines or Paulettes?

  • bambinoitaliano

Religion is a personal hobby. Just because someone enjoy collecting stamps does not mean he or she can impose upon others what collecting stamps entail. Otherwise there’s no need of any government. No defence department, no justice department, no agriculture and infrastructure nor any form of regulation and education. There’s no return to feudal system. I’m sure there are a few places left on earth that still subscribe to that system. They are more than welcome to move there. They do not get to invade decades of progression because of their personal hobby of believing non existing supernatural beings. There are medications and institutions for those who can’t control their impulse on encroaching upon the liberty of their fellow citizens.

  • Rubio is basically saying, “Hey poor white people! i’m not gonna help you, financially. but i hope you care more about hating gays than you care about understanding fiscal policies. because trust – my fiscal policies will fuck your ignorant asses over”

  • Robert Conner

Why does little Marco always look like he needs to be picked up, cuddled and his nappies checked?

  • I think you’re a whore and this is the best way a whore such as yourself can make money as you know your term in office is over.
