“Trump is not referring only to foreign Muslims. He says his ban applies to ‘everyone.’ If that’s the case, why would he quash the rights of millions of Muslim Americans, many of whom serve in the police and armed services? How would he propose to take away rights without due process? And why in the world would he? This is truly frightening and disgusting stuff. Up until now, it’s been the left calling for Americans to give up their rights. Not anymore.

“We need to work with Muslims both foreign and domestic. It’s one thing to label Islamic terrorism and radical Islam a problem. It’s another to label all individual Muslims a problem. That’s what this policy does. It’s factually wrong and ethically incomprehensible. Donald Trump has just transformed into the strawman President Obama abused on Sunday night.

“So no, this isn’t a good idea. It’s a rotten idea all the way around: legally, ethically, practically. Trump’s supporters need to realize at some point that knee-jerk extreme reactions to events of the day don’t substitute for good judgment. It’s ugly when it’s President Obama looking to grab guns from American citizens without due process, and it’s ugly from Donald Trump. Given the poll numbers, it’s not clear whether Americans will get wise to that truth.”

      But the current state of the Republican Party is that only those people who toe the extreme line, even if only by lip service, have a chance of being elected, and anyone who doesn’t is sidelined.

      The issue is not whether or not the individual conservatives have a broad spectrum of beliefs, but whether they are taking action as a group to ensure that that spectrum is represented in their elected officials.

      Otherwise, it doesn’t matter a damn what they believe.

      So right now, conservatives are acting, as a group, to ensure that only the most extreme, bigoted, and homophobic candidates make it to the ballot, even of some of them are doing so by not stopping the others.

    In their desperate quest to end the candidacy of Donald Trump, the media, Democrats, and even fellow Republican candidates have gone Full Godwin on the richly-coiffed real estate mogul: they’re saying he’s a Nazi.

    Trump isn’t a Nazi. Actually, the leftists who oppose him — the same people who say free speech should be squelched to protect feelings — are closer to that charge. Certainly radical Muslims are the modern-day Nazis. But you know that the campaign against Trump has reached top gear when they’re running out the brownshirt language in November.

      I’m with you. I know we liberals have our pet phrases, but “gun grabber” (now even shortened to simply “grabbers”) as a label for anyone who utters a whisper of gun control is as grating as it is stupid. And given that we’re in year seven of the Obama Era, I wonder the same thing: if the goal is disarmament, hadn’t they better get started?

        I rarely venture into any retail stores, especially this time of year) except for the ones are critical to maintaining every day life; grocery, pharmacy & liquor stores) but would definitely steer clear of the lethal weapons dept. of anyplace I did enter. I have little doubt that there will be at least one more next massacre before xmas, unless we finally win that war before the 24th.
