Twister Sister’s Dee Snyder Gives Trump Permission To Use We’re Not Gonna Take It At Campaign Rallies

The Hill reports:

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider says he gave Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump permission to use the band’s hit “We’re Not Gonna Take It” on the campaign trail. “He called and he asked, which I appreciated,” Snider told Canadian Business in a recent interview. “I said, ‘Look, we don’t see eye to eye on everything — there are definitely issues that we’re far apart on.’ But thinking back to when I wrote the song and what the song is about, it’s about rebellion, speaking your mind and fighting the system.” “If anyone is doing that, he sure is,” Snider added.

Someone in that band was taking it, at around 15 I got a gay magazine from the trash can of Mr Snyder’s home. Not sure if it was his or his fathers with him staying there and I never meet him, but you could hear them practice several times a year.

They look like a really bad ABBA tribute band

      LOL-thank you for that.

Washed up band member seeks relevance. Footage at 11.

    • Dippity Doo Dah

Relevance, and maybe a royalty payment?

I wonder if he and Trumpsy exchanged haircare tips.

  • Dramphooey

I’m not sure what this band was going for, anyway. I always took them to be some sort of parody of a tough band–or were they trying to be a hair band? No idea what they were, whether a parody or not and that seems like the theme Trump is going for so have at it.

  • bkmn

The anthem of screamers – very apropos for tRump.

Sell out? How much did tRump pay him to play the song??

      It’s nauseatingly hypnotic!

  • Baby Dave

This is probably the only way he can still make money from his music. 1980’s hair/glam metal metal has a limited following, mostly among ironic hipsters or meth addicts.

Dee Snider does deserve some credit for standing up to the PMRC in one of the most hilarious confrontations captured by C-SPAN. And for progressive political views (he savaged Paul Ryan repeatedly during the 2012 elections on Snider’s radio program).

That said, unless he invested the royalties back when they were still rolling in, he’s probably not seeing much of an income these days.

    • Bad Tom

So, this will help Trump with the meth addict demographic.
He’s gotta widen his appeal somehow.

  • LonelyLiberal

So Dee rolled over and took it. Right in the wallet, I’m sure.

  • Their side is claiming that the Colorado Christian Extremist Terrorist™ is a transgender radical. They really don’t see the irony here.

    Clown car, meet clown band..
No disrespect to Dee and the rest of Twisted sister, but I somehow feel that inside they are laughing-all the way to the bank!

  • Vatican Lokey

I had no use for Dee Snyder or his lamentable musical group before this announcement. Amazingly enough, I now have less.

  • Circle Thomas

One thing that’s missing here is timing–this actually happened back in late July, before Trump’s rhetoric got as insane as it has been lately.

Dee Snider is personally quite liberal, a pro-choice, pro-marriage equality, two-time Obama-voting Democrat:

    • RaygunsGoZap

He’s also a nemesis of Tipper Gore!

      • PiperPine

A lot of musicians got into a fight with Tipper Gore. Who isn’t a nemesis is the shorter list.

        • RaygunsGoZap

True. But he did testify before Congress!

    • PiperPine

Great points thank you for pointing this out. I had not realize the timing and should have looked into it more deeply.

    • bluegreg

Fuck him! A has-been 80s Hair Band lead singer is desperately trying to find relevance in 2015. Along comes Donald Trump’s request…problem solved.

    • NMNative

Which is why I’m surprised that he would let donnie use his work. C’mon Dee, really?

  • PiperPine

I’m weirdly not shocked that the Trump campaign asked of all the campaigns I guess Trump himself is pretty aware of media law. I also like the song for pump up so its a good choice as most people tend to enjoy it.
I don’t like trump but the argument for why it fits makes sense so… yay?

  • Raising_Rlyeh

Trump is not a rebel and he isn’t fighting the system.

    • Chris Larosa

true. I think he’s fighting gravity.

    • Olterigo

He may not be a rebel, but he is going for the tea party vote. And that contingent of GOP sees itself as rebelling against the party establishment. Trump – whatever his actual plans – knows very well what he is doing.

  • CaliforniaDude

this is a brilliant song Donald was able to score. He in this to win it.

    • LonelyLiberal

Really, The Donald just wants to rock. But governance will do if it has to.

  • sherman

The Republicon party is rebelling against common decency, fairness, the golden rule, all that stuff Jeebus actually is quoted as saying, sustaining the middle class, access to health care, ….

So I guess technically he’s right.

Dee-If you think Trump is ‘fighting the system’ you’re an empty headed box of hair.

No, he’s buying his way around the usual fundraising hogwash.
Which is the evil I’ve-got-mine negative flipside of Bernie Sanders.

  • StraightGrandmother

Were any of those band members gay?
I mean I totally missed that connection with The Village People so I thought i would ask. You know the makeup and all.

    • Doug105

See above reply, and I believe Snyder came out as Bi long ago.

    • Natty Enquirer

Snider has been married to his costumer (a woman) since 1981 and has four children.

  • Nic Peterson

Perfect! An insiped, meaningless rant will now become the theme for a candidate that does nothing but rant. Brings truth to the brand if nothing else.

Hated the song when it was released, nowadays I prefer to say it is simply dreadful.

The thought of a bunch of geriatrics thumping their walkers on the floor to an 80’s hair band anthem about how they’re “not gonna take it anymore” (except for the S.S. checks and the Medicare) is disconcerting to say the least.

  • anne marie in philly

    that sux. 🙁

  • JT

Dee Snider, you are one stupid prick.

  • studd55

He’s washed up and desperate for cash.

Since isn’t the first time Twisted has whored themselves out of money – I’m quite sure it won’t be the last… SMH … Dee must be in real need of money again …
