Christie Refugee Policy: No Orphans Under Five

In an attempt to out-Cruz Ted Cruz, yesterday Chris Christie told right wing radio host Hugh Hewitt that under his presidency, he’d even ban immigration for refugee orphans under five years old. Presumably because they’d grow up to be suicide bombers. Listen below.

  • Treg Brown

So when are we tearing her down?

    • Octoberfurst

Wingnuts believe that statue is only there to welcome White European immigrants.

      • 5moreminutes*imtired

        Not even. Just their grandparents.

      • zhera

Belgians too, even though some of the terrorists were from there.

      • mr wonderful

Correct, but add Christian to White European immigrants

        • JCF

          Straight White Christian immigrants!

      • clay

as long as they’re not from France.

    • Joseph Miceli

Christie is right! Leaving children to die is what Jesus would want. After all, didn’t he tell children that they should suffer?
Honestly, why doesn’t anyone challenge Christie and the rest of the right on their hypocrisy? A prayer meeting doesn’t make up for their anti-humane positions.

      • Todd20036

Seriously, that’s what Mother Theresa did.
        Fun, no?

        • Joseph Miceli

Well, those little children suffering was beautiful. It made them more Christ-like. Mother Theresa should have had the courage of her convictions, though, and crucified them all.

          God, I fucking hate religion.

      • clay

they don’t call them “anchor” babies for nothing! That’s why God put the Mediterranean Sea between Europe, Asia, and Africa.

      • Judas Peckerwood

“A prayer meeting doesn’t make up for their anti-humane positions.”

        No, it just reinforces them.

        • Joseph Miceli

“Jesus told me to hate you!”….Betty Bowers, America’s Best Christian (TM)

    • DutchBoy74

Notice they never show her on Fox or the “Give me your tired, poor, huddled masses yearning to be free…”

What would be awesome is if someone asked ANY republican what Liberty stands for or the poem under her.

More amusingly ask them to take a citizenship exam and see how many fail on their faces.

    • bkmn

“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free.” Perhaps the Governor needs to visit the statue again.

      • FAEN

*Only white evangelical Christians need apply.

This message is paid for by ‘America for Republicans only’.

    • Adam Schmidt

It’s things like this that I think define our country. I believe in the message of the Statue of Liberty. I believe that our government shouldn’t indulge in blanket surveillance or torture no matter the justification. And we show who we are not when we stand by these beliefs when they’re easy but when we stand by them when it is hard. That is where our character lies.

So when we look at refugees fleeing a situation WE had a hand in making, this is a test of our character. Will we be ‘Christian” and take in those in need and care for them and welcome them as our own? Or will we turn them away because it’s scary or hard?

      • FAEN

The GOTP refuse to acknowledge that President Bush caused this shit storm by invading Iraq. They’ve blames President Obama so much they now believe it.

If taking care of refugees is left up to the GOTP very few if any will be allowed in. How ironic that a country built on immigrants and refugees is now pretending otherwise. Such is the Republican brain these days.

      • lk

This country celebrates the notion of heroes. It likes to self-righteously paint itself as exceptional. We’ve seen the photos of dead children washing up on foreign shores and so many Americans are willing to say ‘no way, not welcome here.’ Not heroic, not brave, not exceptional.

      • Bob Conti

The wingnuts are saying that the poem was in fact, imposed upon us by the French. Which is nonsense, since Emma Lazarus was American and it was actually installed by the U.S. Government in 1903. But you know, with these people, facts fly out the window.

  • D. J.

The orphans should be the first ones allowed in, to be raised by loving couples. This is our greatest opportunity to make a difference.

  • Gustav2
  • Alaska

A few years ago, I would have said that Christie was the one republican that had a chance in the general against Clinton. I also said that if he maintained his electability in the general, he’d lose the primary, and if he tried winning the primary, he’d lose any chance in the general. Looks like I was right.

    • Todd20036

At this point, he’s a footnote in the primaries, and he knows it. This is just a desperate ploy to out-Trump Trump, and to out-crazy Carson.

It reeks of desperation, and the most pathetic thing of all is he probably doesn’t give a crap one way or the other.

  • Michael Smith

    Compassionate conservatism at its finest.

    • tristram

This is no surprise for Christie. His imprisonment of that Ebola nurse showed there’s no depth to which he will not stoop (and that’s an image I refuse to visualize) to pander to ignorance, fear and stupidity.

  • geoffalnutt

Where does stupid like that come from – outer space? It’s Earth-stupid, but much more profound than…I mean… – Nurse!!!!

  • Linda Kemp

He couldn’t even state his OWN policy – all he did was bash Obama. Loser.

    • TrollopeReader

The Party of NO. And usually HELL NO.

Even if it’s a good idea, that may have even come from their side, if the president supports it, their response will *always* be NO.

  • Blake Jordan

    That makes no sense!!!

Such young children could be raised in loving families and not experience the problems that lead to extremism…

If anything, it is the older children that would most likely already have been damaged by this world and more readily become terrorists.

    • TuuxKabin

that’s where i’m confused . . . ‘the older children . . .’. why deny orphans under five? what about five or older? or is it a given, no orphans. at all? such a hateful man.

  • Michael Smith

I;m sure the five year olds will smuggle in Tickle Me Elmo suicide vests.

    • D. J.

Christie can make sure they get stuck in traffic before reaching their target. Maybe he should move to Paris and keep it safe. He should understand round abouts pretty well. He puts on a belt most mornings, I imagine. /s

      • TrollopeReader

His belt is just decorative. He wears the Expando-pants where the waist clings tightly ….

  • bryan

The inhumanity of the GOP has become a sick game of who hates more. They should remember we are all immigrants, refugees or their descendants.

    • Not how I’d put it, but as an American Indian, I’ll admit we’ve had our own problem with immigrants. I’m stuck here in Arizona, where our governor, Doug Douchey announced a ban on ALL refugees: It was pointed out by an Arizona State University constitutional law professor he lacks the power to do so, since his announcement is unconstitutional–federal policy trumps (hah) state policy. This is the headline of an editorial in our major state newspaper:
Ducey joins hysterical stampede over refugees

  • Marc

    Christie, what an asshole.

  • oikos
  • Cousin Bleh

Cruz and Christie and the rest of the so-called Christians seem to be forgetting the story of a Middle Eastern couple seeking shelter. And that baby was under five.

    • Gustav2

but…but…but that baby turned out to be Christian and white !!!!!1!!

    • Chucktech

If it meant taking any Syrian refugees, they’d claim that story was a big fat hoax.

  • D. J.

How long before the GOP suddenly changes direction and goes from being anti-abortion to requiring mandatory abortion? (For brown, black and/or non-BuyBull thumpers only)

    • oikos

They’ll make an exception for Brown skinned, non christians because jeebus.

1976: Government admits forced sterilization of Indian Women

“A study by the U.S. General Accounting Office finds that 4 of the 12 Indian Health Service regions sterilized 3,406 American Indian women without their permission between 1973 and 1976. The GAO finds that 36 women under age 21 had been forcibly sterilized during this period despite a court-ordered moratorium on sterilizations of women younger than 21.”

        • oikos

Wholly unsurprised by this. Just like all the native kids taken from their parents and forced to go to schools that taught English only and denied their culture.

    • Rebecca Gardner

Come on! Forced sterilization? Yeah, like that was ever done before in history.

  • Sean

Put he’s “pro-life”. YEAH OK! F@$k that soulless, inhuman, un-American trash. Syrian refugees are welcome in my home, whether he wants it or not AND I WILL NOT BE STOPPED!!!!

  • Rebecca Gardner

So toddler, let’s say 3 years old, who is also an orphan will come to the U.S., get adopted by an ordinary middle-class American family. Go to public schools. Have nothing but American friends. Only know how to be an American. This child will somehow grow up to become a terrorist?

The GOP is full of idiots that do not think before they speak. Logic and facts are their kryptonite, and the only thing their base will allow them to say are racist, homophobic, xenophobic, misogynistic, jingoistic bullshit.

    • Octoberfurst

You nailed it Rebecca! The GOP has devolved into a knuckle-dragging pit of racists, sexists and utter morons. It’s frightening that almost half the country votes Republican in every election. It makes me embarrassed to be an American.

  • Lindoro Almaviva

You know? There is a petition that is wanting the president to welcome a Syrian Refugee family to the first Lady’s Box on the next state of the union.

I signed it and I am posting it here hoping some people will sign it:

    https://petitions.whitehouse.gov//petition/welcome-syrian-refugee-family-first-ladys-box-2016-state-union-address-congress

    • JCF

Signed! Damn, just 99, 990 signatures to go…

      • Lindoro Almaviva

        Then, please share it everywhere

  • Capritaur

Instead of going about our lives and refusing to be terrorized, some respond to terrorism by cowering in front of orphaned toddlers.

  • Prion

    • Ray Taylor

      Christmas Gerrtings. uhh Greetings.

    • JCF

Christianists think that Jesus, Mary & Joseph were Christians, though.

  • Prion

    ,,,

  • Mark McGovern

Wow. GOP President starts Middle East War on false WMD pretenses. Kills 500,000 civilians. Destroys country. Creates numerous Jihadists. Destabilizes region. Wars ensure. Largest post WWII migration occurs. Blaming victims of US foreign policy, GOP presidential hopefuls refuse to help those whose misery they had a direct hand in causing. Creates more Jihadists.

    Am I missing anything here?

    • oikos

      Benghazi!!!!!!

      • Gustav2

        Bomb Benghazi!!!!!

    • BearEyes

just the lack of a Democratic campaign ad using that succinct summary.

      • TrollopeReader

Don’t worry, Chad Griffin will have that ready on Nov. 7, 2016.

        • Judas Peckerwood

Not Chad’s job. Not sure what Chad’s job is, actually.

    • Queequeg

No, you got it exactly right.

    • CottonBlimp

Don’t forget, when they finally started to admit the WMD thing was bullshit, they pretended that they were bombing people for humanitarian reasons. Fucking monsters.

    • BobSF_94117

      Am I missing anything here?

Does really well with arms and munition futures.

  • Gustav2

We never should have allowed Roman Catholics to hold public office outside of Maryland.

  • Prion

    ,.,.

  • Queequeg

And Jeb suggests we take in refugees, but only Christian refugees. Someone needs to tell him that they won’t be able to help his sagging campaign.

    • Gustav2

So they will have to take a blood test or something?

      • Ginger Snap

I believe there is a test for Christian blue bloods. Just check their bank accounts and even if they aren’t Christian being in the 1% gets you in.

      • Queequeg

Sure, or a DNA test for the Christian gene.

  • Prion

    ..,,..

    • Todd20036

Can we blame all humanity for Ted Nugent?

  • Quagmired

The crazy is strong in that one.

  • David From Canada

Chris Christie is (burnt) toast. Does anyone even pay attention to him anymore?

  • leo77

It’s been months since he’s been viewed as credible candidate so now he’s just competing for a gig on Fox news. He’s juts throwing shit against the wall and seeing what sticks with the base.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

What a bizzaro way to be. Step back and practically ALL of the DISGUST in the country is originated by tea/gop/ nuts. There are more of us decent people than there are of them, yet we let them poison our lives.

    • joe ho

because progressives don’t vote except in presidential years. the gop gains much of its power and does most of its harm in midterm elections. too bad the dnc doesn’t seem to want to fix this major problem.

      • David L. Caster

The DNC does not know how to build a bench of candidates nor raise the money to support them in running against the GOP incumbents. Democrats have never been good at organization. The only time Democrats and Progressives in general are sufficiently motivated to vote is just when the GOP has finally trashed things so thoroughly it takes a Democrat to clean up the mess.

The US is in a mess and the state of political discourse polluted precisely because the only people that seem to be participating in majority numbers are those that support the GOP and its impossible vision for America. Until that situation is reversed, things will only continue to get worse. The Tea Party, Social Conservatives (read: christofascists) and the Oligarchy must be dismantled.

That should start in earnest this instant by supporting progressive ideals and working against the GOP and its ilk. In just a little over 4 years, most of the current mess that is Congress could be cleaned up. In six years, we would be well along the way to a new enlightenment. This is absolutely doable. Absolutely. There is no excuse and there are far more progressives and people of good will than there are fascists and oligarchs in the USA.

If the current political conditions continue to obtain or worsen, it is our own damn fault for not bothering to participate. Register, help others to register, help others to get to the polls, and vote. That simple.

  • canoebum

If justice is served, this thug will soon be in federal prison, where he belongs. The trials of his co-conspirators in the Bridge Gate scandal will begin in the spring. I’m fairly certain the documents and testimony associated with those trials will put an end to the crime spree this cretin calls his governorship.

    • TrollopeReader

I wonder if his cancelling of the new tunnel was part of his retribution agenda, rather than his stated “saving money but increase the pain of commuting” agenda ….

  • Michael Rush

Is he afraid they will get some of the food ?

    • Octavio

You nailed it. They’re too much of a threat to his access to enough doughnuts covered in pink frosting with sprinkles.

      • coram nobis

Ssh! If that gets out, his opponents will call him a pinko.

  • LonelyLiberal

Well, some of those five year olds are the size of terrorist bombs, so it could just be a very good disguise.

    /snark

  • Marides48

Fortunately, unless he can raise his poling numbers, he won’t have a presidency. Maybe he’ll be president of the local Bruce Springsteen fan club?

    • motordog

      Bruce wouldn’t have it!

  • zhera

I don’t understand. Is there supposed to be some logic in this?

  • geoffalnutt

Constant, unrelenting terror is what a Republican feels, anyway. Don’t ever ask it to fight for a principle…or anything (for that matter), though. You’ll be all alone. They are the definition of “cowardice”. It’s a wonder anyone can get anything done for the screaming.

  • Hue-Man

Christie doesn’t believe that he’s “doomed to repeat it.”

“The MS St. Louis was a German ocean liner most notable for a single voyage in 1939, in which her captain, Gustav Schröder, tried to find homes for 908 Jewish refugees from Germany, after they were denied entry to Cuba, the United States and Canada, until finally accepted in various European countries, which were later
engulfed in World War II. Historians have estimated that, after their return to Europe, approximately a quarter of the ship’s passengers died in concentration camps.”

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MS_St._Louis

    • JCF

Posted this here yesterday (sorry about the anti-Semitic comment underneath the embedded video of the movie. WTF, huh?): https://archive.org/details/Voyage.Of.The.Damned.1976

      • Hue-Man

Voyage of the Damned is very familiar but I don’t recall having seen it. I’ll make a point to watch it this weekend. I don’t understand the anti-semitic comments – these stories need to be told regardless of who is made to look bad.

Perhaps I’m more sensitive because B.C. and Canada more generally have been on the frontlines of racism, including Japanese internment camps, the Chinese poll tax and exclusionary laws, Aboriginal residential schools, and the Komagata Maru. How can anyone say “Never again” when they don’t know what their nation has already done?

“The Komagata Maru incident involved a Japanese steamship, Komagata Maru, that sailed from Hong Kong, Shanghai, China to Yokohama, Japan and then to Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, in 1914, carrying 376 passengers from Punjab, British India. Of them 24 were admitted to Canada, but the 352 other passengers were not allowed to land in Canada, and the ship was forced to return to India.”
        https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Komagata_Maru_incident

  • M Jackson

Christie says he can’t trust the Obama govt. to properly vet the refugees?
I have lived in New York City since before 2001 and we are all still here thriving and working in amazing safety, surrounded by the high number of our fellow Muslim citizens. Our only dark day was back in August of that year when the Republican president ignored his security memos.

So something’s been working for the past 7 years — right across the Hudson River in plain sight of this campaigning opportunistic liar.

  • WiscoJoe

If you are terrified of this, then the terrorists have already won:

    https://worldhelp.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/02/Orphaned-children.jpeg

    • Todd20036

And if you want to restrict those who are allowed to adopt them because they are the wrong race/religion/orientation, then the religious fucks have won, too.

      • WiscoJoe

        Same thing?

    • TuuxKabin

what is terrifying about the photo is that it exists in this world. heartbreaking. haunting me. but thank you, wiscojoe, for posting. think i’ll just log off for awhile and collect myself.

  • Octavio

I’m not concerned much about Christie becoming president. I’m more concerned that he might continue being governor. New Jersey needs to kick his butt to the curb and force him to sit in traffic for a couple of years.

    • coram nobis

He might wind up in a GOP cabinet, secretary of transportation, say.

      • Octavio

        Hush your mouth!

    • fuzzybits

      Perfect,a big speed bump!

  • motordog

Wait…you would think he’d WANT the orphans under five years old…that way, they can be raised to be good ‘Mercans with no memory of their terrorist heritage. Unless he thinks it’s just a ‘racial’ thing…like dark hair and skin. Ugh…aliens, please…come take me off this planet. On second thought, take all the stupid, hateful, violent people off the planet…

  • Baby Dave

Who cares about Chris Christie? His poll numbers are so low, he can afford to say anything he likes about what he’d do if he became President. The odds of that happening are astronomical, so let him write whatever fiction he wants to. Nobody seems to be buying it

  • FAEN

Wait wait don’t tell me, Fat Bastard is a Christian!

  • Nic Peterson

He’s still referring to a possible Christie Administration? SRSLY?

    Fucktard…

    • FAEN

The fantasy is strong with that one.

      • coram nobis

No, it’s possible if, say, all the other GOP contenders suddenly, simultaneously, develop schistosomiasis. Then he could emerge from the field.

  • NancyP

None of these Republican governor bozos have the power to prevent refugees from coming to their state. They merely look more stupid than usual by making these statements. One can expect the novices such as Trump or Carson to be truly ignorant of basic civics, but the govs just look silly, because I know they know exactly what they can and can’t do.

    • MickinDetroit

Yes they can’t block their entry, but they can refuse to set up support and logistical apparatus to host them. Which is what this is going to come down to.

  • bob

You know, sometimes people are just too stupid! For years they’ve been saying you’re not born gay, it how you were raised. But you can be born a terrorist? Give me a break you stupid fat fuck!

  • coram nobis

I think I see Christie’s strategy. He’s trying to hit on a strategy of selectively banning something remotely to do with Syrians and the Paris attack, in hopes of finding a winning gimmick. When banning 5-year-olds gets discredited, he may hit on the idea that Belgium had something to do with it and ban Belgian refugees. And when that doesn’t work he’ll ban Brussels sprouts. That might pass.

At that point every child in America will hail him as a deliverer and pester their folks until they vote for him, at which time he’ll sweep into power. Hey, at least was a green candidacy.

  • BobSF_94117

“Not even orphans under five” would avoid confusion, at least mine :-)

  • Homo Erectus

No worries Governor – you’ll never be president.

  • Grumpy old Man

Bush I destroyed the Iraqi infrastructure – water, electricity, roads, buit left the monster in charge. Bush II completed the destruction, got rid of the monster, put a bunch of clueless ideologues in charge of ‘re-building’ then abandoned the country after alienating all the Suni muslims by disbanding the only trained military. All the ISIS fighters who have been captured say that taking out Sadam and leaving the country leaderless, without hope is what radicalized them.
Now the drums of war are pounding for Syria – and the media has the biggest drum. this does not bode well.
