  • Mark

Good. I only wish they would use the real names. “Protecting the innocent” obscures too much of the crime.

    • Stev84

This isn’t really different from any of the other “ripped from the headlines” stories SVU has done. It’s always clear what they are basing the story on.

      • David Walker

It’s probably a way to save L&O’s ass from lawsuits. (“Liberty” “Counsel” anyone?)

  • Jan Wesselius

They don’t have the same smiles for Jesus, goodie too shoes, pale pastel, sickening look as the real Duggar family has.

    • Ed Burrow

      well no….these are actors.

      • Jan Wesselius

        They should try acting then.

        • Gindy51

I don’t think anyone can “act” like that. You have to “be” it to pull it off. A lot of Mormon women, esp ones with near quiverful kid allotments, are like this. That blank, smiley faced stare… totally unnerving. It’snot something that can be put on, it has to come from inside.

          • Jan Wesselius

Look closer, the Duggar’s all are smiling Not one smile on the actors. The Duggars are not wearing sports coats, all casual. You are possible correct, it could be bad in clothing and direction.

    • Webslinger
      • Jan Wesselius

The Duggars look happier than the actors. must be the drugs.

        • Webslinger

all that fluoride use in one household

          • Jan Wesselius

            a big LOL !

      • JCF

Do they put the gay Duggar boys in horizontal stripes, to mark them before they’re shipped off to conversion camp?

  • bambinoitaliano

Not that many of us wanted to see the horror that were going on in the duggar farm, I doubt the show could portrayed the actual crimes going on in that satanic cult to escape the censorship. To think that legitimate organization like FRC and endorsement from the rehtuglicans candidates are allow to exist makes one wonder what happen to the law and order in the country. How skew is the moral compass when certain individuals and groups are given the financial and political power to bend and change the justice system to accommodate their own indulgence.

  • TheSpinMonkey

    This looks delicious!!

  • Michael Rush

Quiverfull adherents maintain that God “opens and closes the womb” of a woman on a case-by-case basis .

    • LonelyLiberal

So there’s a literal stopcock at the top of the cervix?

      • Michael Rush

It’s the same God that told Quivefull member Andrea Yates to drown all five of her children.

      • TampaDink

Even a stopped cock is right twice a day….or more.

  • Webslinger
    • Herald

That sums it up concisely and accurately.

    • William

If I didn’t know who they were, they would still creep me out.

      • grumpyoldman

I can only wish I did not know who they were (Thanks Obama – well, actually it was Wonkette that kept me informed).

  • oikos
    • OrliJoe in Fla

      brilliant!

    • Andrew Iverson

That hearing has been a freaking goldmine of reaction gifs. 😉

  • Ninja0980

Law & Order SVU jumped the shark a long time ago and I quit watching it.
And this crappy storyline won’t change my mind.

  • Ragnar Lothbrok

    Just gross.

  • JT

“We don’t see it as a crime. We see it as a blessing.”

That’s the story of fundy wingnuts.

    • D. J.

Until the fruit of the womb has left the womb and needs to be fed and clothed. Then it’s time to cut benefits again.

  • Soren456

I wonder if the Mommy will use Michelle’s helium-infused voice.

  • i am a hypocrite.

but you probably knew that. anyway, despite my abiding hatred of all things TV, i netflix some cop shows. sue me, my dad was a judge and we used to watch them together. i miss him. they remind me of those sunny afternoons, when i was taking care of him.

i have uuuge respect for the SVU franchise. some of the actors are totally involved in victims’ rights projects. i don’t worship cops, or actors, but i think this is cool.

i remember when they did the one about the Boosh era corrupt NCY high officials. it really was “ripped out of the headlines” and took no prisoners. they’ve done that more than once, based on local politics. NYC politics are if nothing else exciting. the L&O franchise has always benefited from that fact. i remember debating various eps with dad, “this is bullshit” and “yeah, if only it worked that way.” heh.

i justify my hypocrisy by saying that the L&O franchise is how it should be, even if in reality it’s not. little kids get fairy tales. grown ups get happy ending cop shows.

somebody just got shot in my neighborhood, this morning. and nothing happened, but that’s depressing reality so nevermind.

    • Mike in Texas

I think my hubbie has figured out how to watch L&O at any time of the day or night on various cable networks. He never tires of all the old reruns. .

      • LonelyLiberal

L&O, like the Golden Girls, is pretty much on 24/7/365.

      • lattebud

Well, you know where to find him.

      • my partner does the whole “hey! wavey thing!” to you. 😉

    • Palmer

I haven’t been happy with Dick Wolfe Productions since the episode about “super-AIDS” where a murderer justified killing a man because he was spreading this new “untreatable” version of HIV.

  • shellback

Television? Is that thing still around? As many of you know, my Dumont was sent to the landfill right after they cancelled “My Little Margie.” I have no regrets.

    • unsavedheathen

      OMG! Are you Dorothy Kilgallen???

      • Now Anon

Hush! Dorothy Kilgallen was whisked away to an undisclosed island nation by the FBI after revealing the truth of the Kennedy Assassination to J. Edgar Hoover. Her death, as all true Kilgallen-ites know, was a cover up! Meanwhile, she’s sitting somewhere sipping a Mai Tai and thinking up bon mots.

        • grada3784

          Shades of Martha Mitchell.

        • unsavedheathen

Well, all I can say is that I hope she and Arlene Frances are together and finally getting it on. You could cut the sexual tension between those two with a knife. A knife, I tell you. “What’s My Line”??? “Let’s play with our fur pieces.” That was their line.

          • Now Anon

I never really noticed but now that you’ve pointed it out…

    • Robincho

When they pulled Bucky Beaver and the Ipana commercials, that was it for me…

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

You mean you missed seeing the Kennedy-Nixon debate?

    • Gianni

Margie was all grown up yet she had to abide by Vern’s rules. I don’t think her boyfriend ever got in her pants. I really liked Mrs. Odetts.

    • grumpyoldman

For me, it was when my ex left – the tv was on all the time.

  • bkmn

And yet the good Xtain who owns TLC wants to get them back on the air, so he can make more money.

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

And the good Xtains who watch that pseudo-reality Xtain teevee… allowing him to make more money. The sponsors may be harder to line up, though.

  • A show I won’t miss! I look forward to this episode! Don’t you love the mother’s reaction about how they see this as a ‘blessing’. These are sick sick people.

  • James

These people are FAR better looking than the Duggars.

    • LonelyLiberal

They dress better and speak better, too.

      • TampaDink

In all fairness, the “real” family doesn’t have professionals selecting what they’ll be wearing…and although they do have the resources, their wardrobe money is spent on other things…like buying educational programs from another entity steeped in sex abuse scandals.

    • David Walker

      Well…TV, you know.

    • Love the lil white shrug sweater.

  • Ray Page

Uh oh. Jim Bob and his brood mare ain’t gonna like this. I bet it was directed by one of them men who fakes being a woman so he can sneak into the ladies room. Those evil devil people are everywhere, right Michelle?

  • LonelyLiberal

“We don’t see it as a crime. I see it as an afternoon when my husband’s dick isn’t in me trying to get me pregnant for the twenty-first time.”

  • Octavio

“Duggar — The Musical” cannot be far behind. 🙂

    • lattebud

First there needs to be a South Park Episode

      • JCF

        There hasn’t been already?

  • Bernie

    Help, we’re being persecuted!

  • AnotherPoster

Wow. People actually watch this kind of shit on TV? Talk about pandering to the lowest common denominator to hopefully garner the ratings.

It’s bad enough reading about the Duggar family in real life. Why do we need a show exploiting that whole sick, sad and pathetic situation further.

    • Octavio

You ain’t seen nothing until you see the version in the planning stages where there will be a chorus line of unborn doing high kicks. It’s special. 🙂

      • AnotherPoster

Not sure what that has to do with anything. So I’ll simply reply, “Whatever”.
        Whatever.

      • Now Anon

Some people are VERY earnest and have a point of view without a sense of humor. They just don’t know the Octavio that we all know and love…

    • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

I suspect the point of view will be different from their so-called-reality TV bubble. I would rather think that this kind of cult will be portrayed as the dysfunctional creeps that they are… and in prime time. Sure, there is some interest in ratings, but not at the same disgusting level as on TLC and FauxNews.

      • AnotherPoster

And I think it’ll simply be one of those episodes that people like Rachel Maddow will make a big deal about but the majority of the population will care less about and even fewer will actually watch.

I suspect the producers of this show could care less about the actual facts of the real life case and are simply doing a show based upon the Duggars for the ratings. It’s all about the ratings. And if you think otherwise your simply fooling yourself.

And that makes them no better and no worse than TLC or FoxNews.

    • Sam_Handwich

      i can’t watch this crap

my TV viewing is pretty much limited to cooking shows, Rachel, and baseballl…which is over in a week 🙁 but at least it will be an exciting week! 😉 GO METS!

      • grada3784

I’ve found my true love. A fellow Mets fan.

  • David Walker

Much to Hubs’ disgust, I’ve always thought Lt. Elliot Stabler’s reactions to child abusers was like homophobes’ protestations over homosexuality…that Stabler was actually a child abuser. In which case, he’d be perfect for this episode. A guest star appearance is called for.

    • Now Anon

I’ve had similar thoughts. His character was certainly wound tight…

  • Bj Lincoln

The only good part about this show is the bad guy loses and bad people are punished, unlike reality most of the time.

  • Queequeg

I haven’t watched SVU in years, but I’ll record that episode to see how they handle it. I remember that they also did one that was a thinly veiled Michael Jackson when his molestation charges were in the news.

  • That’d be great and all if Benson wasn’t the lead character anymore. She’s as sanctimonious and judgmental as the Duggar clan. The cops can do no wrong, every perp is Snively Whiplash, she’s always the victim, the detectives are holier than thou and above the law. She just needs a cross and a fire to burn people with.

  • “We don’t see it as a crime. We see it as a blessing.”
    Ahahahaha!

God, even the fake Duggars are creepy! Those poor actors.
