Trump: Dubya Knew 9/11 Was Coming [VIDEO]

Donald Trump doubled down on his accusations against former President George W. Bush this morning in a CNN interview in which he declared that Bush knew the 9/11 attacks were imminent. Trump:

“Look, his brother gets hit on, he’s a loyal person, and he’s loyal to his brother. But his brother made some mistakes. His brother could have made a mistake with the actual hit because they did know it was coming. And George Tenet, the head of the CIA told him that it was coming. So, they did have advanced notice and they didn’t really work on it. Now that’s something that could happen. I don’t blame him for that. Again, the question was — it wasn’t that I was blaming. They said that our country was safe under Bush. I said, well, what about the World Trade Center coming down in the worst attack in history? The statement was our country was safe under his brother.”

The Atlantic says Trump is right:

There’s no way of knowing for sure if Bush could have stopped the September 11 attacks. But that’s not the right question. The right question is: Did Bush do everything he could reasonably have to stop them, given what he knew at the time? And he didn’t. It’s not even close. When the Bush administration took office in January 2001, CIA Director George Tenet and National Security Council counterterrorism “czar” Richard Clarke both warned its incoming officials that al-Qaeda represented a grave threat. During a transition briefing early that month at Blair House, according to Bob Woodward’s Bush at War, Tenet and his deputy James Pavitt listed Osama bin Laden as one of America’s three most serious national-security challenges.
