PHILADELPHIA: Man Charged In Murder Of Trans Woman, Other Suspects Remain At Large

Over the weekend hundreds of activists rallied in Philadelphia to mark the murder of a local trans woman. Today there’s a break in the case. The Philadelphia Inquirer reports:

A man has been arrested in the fatal shooting of a transgender woman in Philadelphia’s Logan section. Pedro Redding, 24, has been taken into custody in the Oct. 6 killing of Kiesha Jenkins. The 22-year-old was attacked by a group of men near 13th and Wingohocking streets after she got out of a car at about 2:30 a.m. She was shot twice during the assault. Redding, of Logan, was arrested on Sunday after investigators received a tip, police said. Jenkins’ death startled Philadelphia’s LGBT community and made news across the country. Advocates say she is the second transgender woman slain in Philadelphia and the 21st transgender person killed nationwide in the past year. It wasn’t immediately clear what role, if any, Jenkins’ sexual orientation played in the killing.
