LIVE VIDEO: Pope Motorcades Through Manhattan

Pope Francis is just landing at an East River helipad for his motorcade through Manhattan to St. Patrick’s Cathedral on Fifth Avenue. It’s a short ride but the security presence is the most massive ever seen in New York City.

  • AtticusP

    Kthxbye…

  • Baron Ochs

OK, I’m a total skeptic, but he does travel like a Boss. Also, think he just realigned the priorities of the Catholic Church in America (a mixed blessing, but welcome).

  • bkmn

Enjoy the clusterfuck. We have been so glad the last couple of days that we don’t live in Seattle, where they have been hosting the President of China and as if traffic isn’t bad enough on a daily basis it has been complete gridlock over much of the town with the visit.

    • bambinoitaliano

What does the Chinese want to buy now? Star Bucks?

      • bkmn

They want Boeing to build a production facility in China since they are ordering 300+ planes from them.

        • bambinoitaliano

Yikes! Planes build in China. No thanks. I’ll walk.

    • Six Pins Delores

Don’t try to distract attention from our most important U.S. guest with the leader of the country to which we owe so much debt!

  • Mark

Glad I live in the country, north of a small town in the mountains – don’t have to put with up crap like this – just tourista in the summer…..

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

I was thinking the same thing. We get tourists all year and the occasional Baldwin brother and celebrities that are important.

    • LonelyLiberal

Ditto. Medium-sized city here, and not much like this ever happens. The President came here once. Sometimes our Governor visits. That’s about it.

      • Anastasia Beaverhousen

The Vice President visits the town next to ours often. The president drove thru once on the way from the Harriett Tubman house in that town too.

    • the only famous people who come to my ‘hood are criminals and entertainers. and that’s rarely. people don’t understand how nice it is, in its own way, to live in an area like this. it’s so poor, nothing “exciting” ever happens here and it’s like a church basement at night, it’s so quiet. it’s urban, but as quiet as a farm.

  • Priya Lynn

    Enough about the pope already.

    • Anastasia Beaverhousen

      Pooped out by the pope?

      • LonelyLiberal

        Popped the Pope poop already.

      • 2guysnamedjoe

        uh-huh. Too poped to pop.

  • LonelyLiberal

Snore. More Sad Faces and Sadz! Kim Davis getting arrested again! Crevasses opening up and eating Jim Bob Duggar and OfJimBob Duggar!

  • vorpal

    Why does he need security?
Couldn’t he just pray to be kept safe?
Does he not trust in the omnipotence and mysterious ways of his god?
If not, then why should anyone else?

    • Up Side the Head

The security is for the evil cum-sucking politicians clammering for photo-ops with Frank.

    • Miji

Would you trust a guy who let his own son get nailed to a cross? With friends like that . . .

    • radiofreerome

“If you are the Son of God,” he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
“‘He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’”

    • Irish856

God answers all of our prayers… sometimes the answer is No… So the Secret Service wants to make sure that God does not get pissed.

  • David From Canada

“The security presence is the most massive ever see in New York City.”
The U.S.A. is a pretty dangerous place to visit, with all the guns and shootings. Just sayin’.

    • Six Pins Delores

Yes. Canadian citizens would be wise to invest in medical insurance prior to getting their lovely selves here.

      • bambinoitaliano

Nah. I just peek through the wire fence.

        • Six Pins Delores

Just you wait Eh! It’s gonna be Yoooge!

      • As it is, travellers’ health insurance premiums for the USA are more than double those for anywhere else.

  • zhera

Is that a Mini Morris? With all those huge cars, the poop travels in the smallest car available? lolz

Hey Franny, your modesty and simple life is somewhat overshadowed by the massive amounts of money being spent on everything you do. Security being just one of those things.

    • Robincho

If they’re not careful, the NYC security tab might just get as big as the tab for the
      Rowan County taxpayers…

    • Circ09

I read it is environmentally more friendly than the usual pope-mobile and without a bullet proof casing. Hence, the heightened security.

      • zhera

Adding more cars to security: Not environmentally friendly. lol

  • Anti-Christ Alert

    “Something wicked this way comes…..”

  • bambinoitaliano

That’s disappointing. I was expecting the flying nuns to transport the pope.

  • bambinoitaliano

Things has change since jeebus walk on bare foot back in the days. Now the pope get his gown bleach white. He’s like Donald Trump inherited his father’s wealth and spend it like there’s no tomorrow.

    • Irish856

Actually… to be fair… Francis is now twice the reported age of Jesus at the time of his death (78 vs 39)
If Jesus had been alive at 78… odds are he would have been riding on the back of a Jesus mo-chariot or something like that

      😉

      • Well, he did ride into Jerusalem on a donkey. And we know that he wore sandals, otherwise the Baptist’s remark about being unworthy to unlace them would have made no sense.

  • Schlukitz

    The Greatest Show on Earth.

    Oh wait…that was P.T. Barnum’s line, wasn’t it.

    Never mind.

  • Octavio

Why so much security? Mehmet Ali Agca was paroled, but he’s too old to walk without assistance. Besides, that assassination attempt was way back in 1981. Who would want to kill the pope today? 🙂

    • radiofreerome

“Who would want to kill the pope today? :-)”

Half of Sicily and Calabria. After all Pope Francis has ordered an investigation of the Vatican Bank and fired made men like Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone, the Grand Inquisitor and Secretary of State of the Vatican. Bertone is accused of stealing tens of millions from the Vatican Bank. The Vatican has laundered the Mafia’s heroin money for decades.

    • Silver Badger

Rather a lot of the fringe right wing America. We know how crazy they are.

  • Leo

That smarmy slime-ball Dolan mugging for the camera in NYC with him. UGH.

    • matt n

      he is a player.

  • MBear

    Fuck the pope’s mother

  • Todd20036

He’s your problem now, NYC. enjoy!

  • ab

There’s only one Pope I’m interested in and that would be the last one .

    • According to the Prophecies of St Malachi, he is the last one.
Very few people give those prophecies any credence, but you might like to hedge your bets.

  • Dan Robinson

This disgusting spectacle makes me embarrassed to be human. Swarms of credulous fools clamoring to get a glimpse of the Most High Holy Hypocrite. Why is a religious leader addressing our secular congress? Then he goes out and makes a big show of feeding some poor people before returning to his gold and crystal palace. He spouts empty platitudes about humanity and compassion while presiding over the canonization of a brutal conqueror. His kindly, avuncular face and manner make the cruel policies of his church stand out in more stark relief than his clearly evil predecessor.

  • TexPlant

Am I the only one who DGAF about the man in a dress? Why is a religious leader allowed to address congress and push his agenda based on an imaginary sky monster? I just do not get it!

    • Kieron

Complete agreement. And we’re footing the bill because God knows, the Vatican probably isn’t opening its bottomless purse for this mess.

    • Steven Leahy

No, you’re not, by any stretch. It’s disgusting. Treating this guy like a monarch and fawning every word that comes out of his mouth is beyond sickening. Not to mention the HUGE amount of disruption and cost that’s coming out of this.

He’s says a few words that are a bit softer than those of his predecessors and he’s somehow the second coming. I’d like to see him put some of that vatican money where his mouth is in helping out with the migrant crisis instead of lecturing others what they should do. He is an enemy to LGBT people and still supports the backwards, oppressive status quo where our rights are concerned. Why he gets all this adoration and praise is beyond me.
