ISRAEL: Jerusalem Pride Killer Charged With Murder, Tells Court His Victim Won’t Go To Heaven Until Parade Is Stopped

After having been found mentally competent to stand trial, the Jerusalem Pride killer has finally been formally charged with murder. The Associated Press reports:

Jerusalem’s District Court indicted Yishai Schlissel for murder on Monday for last month’s deadly attack, along with multiple attempted murder charges for those he wounded. Schlissel, who had been freed from prison weeks earlier after serving a sentence for stabbing several people at the city’s pride parade in 2005, stabbed six people at the July 30 parade. One of them, 16-year-old Shira Banki, later died of her wounds. Jerusalem, known for its rich religious history and tradition, holds a modest gay pride parade annually in contrast to the large parade in the nearby liberal city of Tel Aviv, which drew over 100,000 people this year.

At his indictment last month, Schlissel declared that he does not recognize the authority of the Israeli legal system. A trial date has not been set.

UPDATE: Pink News has a grotesque detail.

After hearing the court’s decision, Schlissel once again verbally attacked the parade – having the audacity to reference Miss Banki during the outburst, before blaming the LGBT community for her death. “The pride parade must be stopped in order for the soul of Shira Banki to ascend to heaven,” Shlissel, 39, told the court in Jerusalem. “If you care for her well being … you must stop cursing against God. The parade marchers are bringing great harm upon the nation of Israel.”
