SAN DIEGO: LGBT Group Puts “Hate Cake” From Anti-Gay Oregon Bakers Up For Auction On eBay

A few days ago I reported that anti-gay Oregon bakers Aaron and Melissa Klein had sent ten cakes to LGBT groups as a “gesture of love for homosexuals.” Included in those loving packages was the latest viciously anti-gay DVD from banana man nutcase Ray Comfort. Today we learn that one of the recipients of the cakes was a San Diego-based LGBT group, who has put the cake up for auction on eBay. From the eBay posting:

Canvass for a Cause, a San Diego queer rights non-profit organization, presents the auction of “The Hate Cake”, made by Oregon’s very own Sweet Cakes Bakery. We are not selling a cake**, we are fundraising to support the following programs, please bid generously. All proceeds will be split by Trans* Life Line and Canvass for a Cause’s, The Syra Project. Trans* Life Line provides support to the transgender and gender nonconforming community in times of crisis. The Syra Project will provide safe housing, food, and transportation to the transgender community of San Diego starting with those who need it most, transgender women of color. We are auctioning off this cake to re-direct the money spent on The Klein Family’s “gesture of love” to the transgender community. One out of five transgender individuals have been homeless in their lifetime. 41% of the transgender community has attempted suicide compared to 4.6% of the general population. Please help us make this a true gesture of love.

At this writing bidding is up to $77.
