Brian Brown Follows Up Maine Humiliation With FADA Money Beg To Stop “Gay Marriage Totalitarians”

“After Labor Day, Congress will return from their recess. We must make sure that FADA is front and center —and that we have the support to get this passed into law. Passage of the First Amendment Defense Act is absolutely crucial. Despite the overwhelming support of Americans to protect the religious liberty of people who believe in traditional marriage, I have no doubt that the Obama administration will fight to keep FADA from becoming the law of our land. They have made their agenda clear: any person or any institution (like a church or religious organization) that opposes same-sex ‘marriage’ could potentially be targeted for punishment. They’ve already signaled that “it’s going to be an issue” for faith-based groups and charities to keep their tax-exempt status unless they fully embrace same-sex ‘marriage.’ Any way you look at that, it is clear that the approach adopted by the gay ‘marriage’ totalitarians and likely to be pursued by officials in the Obama administration it is NOT religious liberty! And that is why NOM is so committed to standing firm! Please stand with us to fight for your freedom to recognize marriage, as it has always existed — one man and one woman — without fear of governmental reprisal or punishment. Please DONATE NOW so NOM can fight to ensure our freedoms are secure for the next generation!” – Hate group leader Brian Brown, who was humiliated earlier today when the world learned that only six donors provided 99% of the funding in their 2009 campaign to repeal marriage in Maine.

      501(c)(3) / 501(c)(4)……..The legalities confuse him.

      • MattM

Not confuse. It’s simply inconvenient. You don’t grift that long without learning a thing or two.

        • D. J.

You should read his Maine Deposition…..talk about speaking in tongues….

    • safari2bongaloo

Damn you for this post. It’ll take days to rid my mind of it.

      • Homo Erectus

Sorry – every time I see the rants about the government persecution of po’ widdle christians, it sounds like the song that doesn’t end.

      • Dazzer

Pro-tip here. Chew some gum when it’s in your head and the rhyth of your own chewing will break the song.

    • MDB

I recall our dear young sooper-eevil math genuis Vorpal, recounting the time he sang it incessantly to drive his parents crazy.

  • Bill T.

The Brown children need new back-to-school outfits, so please send money.

    • canoebum

They can just go in their jammies; they’re all home schooled, I’m sure.

      • Bill T.

They all attend Our Lady of Perpetual Homophobia parochial school.

    • safari2bongaloo

Best to drape them in potato sacks. Brian probably wouldn’t want anything of fashion from a chain of clothiers that may include a ho-mo-sexual touching his children.

      • Bill T.

He’s a Brown, not a Duggar. Besides, if his parish priest can touch his children, so can a pair of slacks from Old Navy.

    • prjoe

      Catholic school uniforms I’m sure.

  • Reality.Bites

I’d love to hear Trump announce he’d veto it too and watch the heads explode.

  • Michael Smith

“They’ve already signaled that “it’s going to be an issue” for faith-based groups and charities to keep their tax-exempt status unless they fully embrace same-sex ‘marriage.”

Oh Brian Brown. So desperate for money that he’s resorted to cherry picking quotes.

  • Rebecca Gardner

So much outrage. So many adjectives. So many misplaced quotes. I do get tremendous enjoyment out of their desperation, abject failure, and impending demise.

    • Schlukitz

Brians has 6 starving children and a wife banging their spoons on the table and demanding their bowls of gruel.

      Edit: Make that 8.

      • Rebecca Gardner

Now I have an image of BriBri humbly going before his 1/2 dozen benefactors and saying, “Please Sir. I want some more?”

      • oikos

Please sir, may I have another bowl of crisco?

        • bdsmjack

You are correct, Steve Teeter, TampaDink and NedFlaherrtyt. 8 it is. All the more reason to dig deep. lol

I got the six figure from an older article that I found on the Internet. Thank you for correcting me.

        • lymis

          Bundles, okay.

My guess is that the joy in the Brown household is somewhat lacking.

Six unelected tyrants. I wonder if they wear black robes at home?

      • PAUL MICHAEL

More likely white ones with pointy hats.

Nah, that crowd’s not particularly friendly with Papists.

          • Randy Left Brooklyn

Actually they are. Most of NOM’s key people are Catholic. Remember Thomas Peters, AKA American Papist on Twitter? Maggie Gallagher, Robert George? All very Catholic.

Although the reference is to the KKK.

          • Tor

I think he means the white-robed set.

Misgendering someone as an insult — even if it’s because he would hate it — still perpetuates the idea that women are “inferior” to men.

Even if it “only” suggests that a “real man” can’t be as much of an utter jerk as Brian Brown is (but a woman might be), that’s not a message I’d like to spread.

We, of all people — who seek to live our authentic lives despite people’s efforts to cram us inside those straight-and-narrow boxes of what “real men” and “real women” “should” be like — should know better!

        • JT

Have you ever been to a gay bar?

          • GC

Guys playfully calling each other “girlfriend” — again rejecting the traditional straight-and-narrow boxes — is completely different.

          • JT

Sometimes not so playfully but meant as a reprimand and a meta-comment, so not “completely different.”

          • GC

In that case, I’ll also say we should know better.

          • JT

In that case, I’ll disagree, since it can make a point and be warranted. It’s not only done in the gay case, you know.

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

This little dino will be all too happy to leave a hot, steaming donation in NOM’s mailbox. Check daily Brian- as he may leave more than one for such a deserving individual.

  • bkmn

If “THEY” want to take our gay tax dollars they need to serve everyone Brian. It is that simple.

  • AtticusP

maybe one of his six contributors will pony up a few more bucks…

      • oikos

  • delk

Please DONATE NOW so NOM can fight to ensure pay our freedoms are secure for the next generation ridiculously high salaries !

  • Eebadee-eebadee-thatsallfolks

Why does he even waste his time doing this when he only has 6 donors and everybody knows that now? I assume these are e-mails and he’s not stupid enough to be spending on postage, right?

    • Tor

He’s counting on the low-information people to not be aware of that little fact.

    • Chucktech

Really he just do a donor conference call.

    • NedFlaherty

None of the $5 donors on his 50,000-name mailing list know any of this. They don’t read any of the LGBT or mainstream publications that will carry this news. They will remain in the dark, and susceptible to whatever he sends them. He does collect a fair amount of tiny donations from lots of great-grand-parents in rocking chairs.

  • Tor

Brian, Your little reinvention of NOM is not gonna work. Get a real job.

  • CPT_Doom

Oh, Brian honey, have you seen the movie “Gentleman’s Agreement”? It depicts exactly the world you want, a time when those dirty Jews weren’t allowed in certain businesses or schools or summer camps or whole towns. Just because the minority you are currently scapegoating is different than back then doesn’t make it any more moral.

  • Webslinger

Brian Brown and others need to stop using the gay issues to fill their bank accounts and the people need to stop giving them “free money” with no assurance of these liars true intentions…

Okay, I’m speaking up. I don’t want to stop marriage equality. I do want to stop money grubbing grifter hypocrites life Brian Brown.

    • oikos

Now that the donors have been exposed, the rest of the cash flow will slow to a trickle.

      • Wynter Marie Starr

        One can hope.

  • Richard B

having no pride or humility, Brian is back tricking and deceiving folks on new ways to hate on the gays…yawn
We all saw the business community decisively shut down these attempts in safe red states like Indiana, Arkansas, and Louisiana – good luck going national.

    • Chucktech

It’s not that Brian has no pride or humility, it’s that he’s shameless.

  • Richard Rush

I think the biggest reason why the First Amendment needs a Defense Act is to give NOM a new basis for soliciting money so that Brown can continue feeding his eight children.

    • Basically. NOM needs something to rally the troops around
      nd FADA is it.

  • Richard Rush

I must be missing something, but it’s difficult for me to understand why a provision of the Constitution needs a ‘defense act’ to make it more fully binding than it already is.

    • BearEyes

politics, my dear boy. The 1st amendment is fine by itself, but don’t tell that to the opponents of equality.

    • Gustav2

The Constitution doesn’t allow them to discriminate like they want!

    • Christopher

      THANK YOU!

    • Richard Rush

Actually, I wonder if there could be a hidden agenda here. If the First Amendment needs a Defense Act in order to be fully binding, doesn’t it imply that the Constitution cannot stand on its own as the nation’s foundational document? Doesn’t it seem like a effort to weaken the status of the Constitution? Going forward, will all provisions of the Constitution need Defense Acts to make them fully binding? If the Religious Right got their Marriage Amendment, would a Defense Act be required to seal the deal, or would that be an exception?

      • BearEyes

the Reich-wing is trying to destroy the 14th amendment for several reasons: equality, marriage, citizenship, etc.

    • lymis

      Well, duh.

Because they want it to mean something it’s never meant before.

      • Richard Rush

And if they manage to pass a ‘defense act’ to make it “mean something it’s never meant before,” then it should be declared unconstitutional. This ‘defense act’ is nothing but a devious attempt to make an ‘end run’ around the constitutional amendment process.

  • Christopher

This whole FADA nonsense is ABSURD!!!

The First Amendment doesn’t need a “defense act”. It’s the FIRST FUCKING AMENDMENT to The Constitution! I’m pretty sure that everything you need to know about it is spelled out quite clearly in THE FIRST AMENDMENT.

Fuck, this country is becoming a goddamned nightmare with these Twatwaffles running around like Chicken Little.

Seriously, how motherfucking secure are you in your religion if you need this stupid act.

FUCK! I just want to move to Dublin and be done with all of this bullshittery!

    • Gustav2

It was too busy an area, but I was tempted to add:

AND THE FOURTEENTH AMENDMENT PROTECTS MY RIGHT TO CIVIL MARRIAGE!

  • Cuberly

Ya know Bri, Pope Fran has said that global warming is real threat. In fact he called for a revolution to address the crisis. Particularly how our current ways of consuming are impacting the world.

Just offering up some other employment options. I’m here to help.

(now why does your comment remind me of a song by the o’jays? philly boyz – RECOGNIZE!)

  • j.martindale

Are Jews totalitarian for demanding equal treatment when they go to the bakery and want to be served? Are Blacks? The fact that Christians think gays are sinners doesn’t give them the right to discriminate against us. We are taxpayers. We are citizens. We don’t want something special. We want the same treatment everyone else gets. I am sick to death of Christians demanding they have the right to discriminate against us.

    • Reality.Bites

The people who oppose marriage definitely opposed the civil rights act all along. So yes, they absolutely do think Jews and Blacks are totalitarian to demand equal treatment. Absolutely.

      • Octavio

And only Jews who think they have first dibbs on the loaves of fresh marble rye at Lou Dornbush’s bakery are totalitarian. 🙂

        • those damn Jews pushing you out of the line at Zingermans? totally totalitarian. 😉

  • olandp

Poor Bri-Bri, and by that I mean poor.

    • TampaDink

Unless he’s wasted everything he’s been raking in while working for a hate group, even with the expense of feeding his roman catholic quiverfull family, he’s got plenty of money.

  • clay

Which is he trying to match, the 0.66% that came from small donors, or the 6% that went to Maine’s courts?

  • canoebum

Sounds to me like the straight marriage totalitarians are pissed.

  • D. J.

    Hey Octopop Brown,
We already have the First Amendment.
You’re riding on Maggie’s coattails again.
Just like you did with all of those unnecessary anti-marriage amendments people like you passed across the country, making something already thought to be illegal “double” illegal.
Is there no end to taxpayer money and resources you will waste? Who’s going to write the bullshit studies this time? Staver? Rekkers? Regnerus?
You were and will always be a huge gaping asshole.
Keep it up and the screams to tax churches will grow louder and louder.

    • Reality.Bites

Don’t knock the amendments! If it wasn’t for them we might have wasted years lobbying legislators in red states to legalize marriage instead of hauling their bigoted asses to court!

  • Nick in Pasadena

It sure didn’t take long for Brian Brownshirt to change the destination on his gravy train. But it’s still the same hate-filled contraption and it’s still bound to go off the rails again.

  • Sk3ptic

“Holy crap. The Constitution must be mighty fucking weak if it needs the likes of Brian Brown to support an act to defend it. I better send money or the whole country will fall apart,” said no one ever.

  • Richard

I need the six names, titles, companies or organizations?

    • sherman

From the Bangor newspaper article Joe linked to earlier today:

The donor list includes one Mainer and four out-of-state donors who gave the National Organization for Marriage between $50,000 and $750,000 in individual donations.

      — Richard Kurtz of Cape Elizabeth, $50,000 on Aug. 5, 2009.

      — John Templeton of Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, $300,000 on Oct.1, 2009.

      — Terrence Caster of San Diego, California, $300,000 on Oct. 9, 2009.

      — Knights of Columbus of New Haven, Connecticut, $140,000 on Sept. 4, 2009.

      — Sam Fieler of New York City, $750,000 on July 15, 2009, and $500,000 on Oct. 13, 2009.

      — There were an additional $5,279 in smaller contributions that were not itemized on the report.

      • oooh, burn.

$5K? only five thousand and some from “real” donors?

no wonder Bri Bri is so worried. he’s getting what? $350K/yr. no way the Little People are going to cough that up, now.

  • Just how much financial backing does HATE have?
I bet this is just the ‘tip of the iceberg’…

    • Reality.Bites

This is from 6 years ago though. Funds have dried up.

      • Somehow I do not think that HATE drys up.
It just finds new sources to infect.

  • Gianni

The way I see it is that the Constitution lays out the general outline of protections, prohibitions, restrictions on government, enumeration of rights, etc. The laws spell out the details. “Freedom Of Speech” for example – this Constitutional guarantee makes it seem that you can say, shout, scream anything you want about any thing or person any time you want. Not so. The specific “freedom” has to be defined by law so as to prevent any infringement on the other person’s rights or harm to society. It’s the old “you aren’t allowed to just yell FIRE in a crowded theater just because you have free speech”. Plus, with changing times and advancements in technology, many new forms of speech have been added and protected by new laws defining them. Flag burning, for example, was determined to be a form of speech and thereby protected under the First Amendment. Just so long as that fire doesn’t break any local fire/burn codes or present a danger to the community.
These prickly Christians want to define and expand on the guarantee of “religious freedom” protected by the First Amendment. Look at that c.nt in Kentucky who refuses to issue marriage licenses to gay couples. She is claiming an infringement on her constitutionally protected religious rights. The Constitution doesn’t say anything about marriage or licenses or your job requirements. The law spells that out and they want to expand on the “freedom” of religion to create an exemption to the law that now defines gay marital equality.

  • DonnaLee

    Fight by doing what exactly?

  • kaydenpat

Shhhh. Nobody tell him that Pres Obama would never sign it even if it passed.

The Christian psycho’s need your money so they can live in the fashion of which they have become accustomed to. Please dig deep.

  • Tom (Winnipeg)

Some news for you Brian, since you’re not capable of seeing for yourself, it is not going to quit. You will never have things the way you want them. So, if there is any quitting to do, it will not be LGBT.

  • Leo Tallant

“Please DONATE NOW so NOM can fight to ensure our freedoms are secure for the next generation!”

My basic rights have NOTHING whatsoever to DO with your freedoms you fucking stupid ASSHOLE !!!!!

    ————————————————————————————————–
EDIT: (Damn! whatsoever is ONE word – who knew? LOL).

  • “Thank you. We count on you”—but not really because almost
all of our money comes from a small handful of donors anyway.

  • “Our goal is to raise $100,000 in the next two weeks. Why? This is what we must have to launch a massive campaign when Congress returns from its recess.” What will that look like, radio ads? TV ads? Paper ads? Billboards? NOM of course doesn’t say, that way when it doesn’t happen it isn’t missed.

  • Snarkaholic

    Brian’s sweaty hands reach out
    and they reach wide
But the money stopped rolling in…from every siiiiide!
When the money keeps rolling in, you don’t keep books
‘Cuz a paper trail will only prove that you’re all fucking crooks.
    NOM is all but destitute
Brian Brown needs to go away
What a bunch of losers; now they’re gonna cry, bitch, and moooooan!
(With apologies to Andrew Lloyd Webber & Tim Rice)

    • LADY MABELINE

No apologies required. That was great.

  • Ninja0980

The nails have been put in your coffin Bri.
And to that I say GOOD!

  • Ginger Snap

    Poor, poor, poor Brian. Haaaaaaaaaàaaaa!

  • Let’s remember here that NOM is nothing more than a handful of people headed by a homophobic leader who claims NOM has millions of supporters. It does not and that fact has been revealed by the courts. The organization has no credibility.

  • Gianni

This little ditty just came to me from somewhere. Sort of like I’ve heard it before:

    Bad, bad Brian Brown,
Baddest man in the whole damn town,
    Badder than old King Kong,
    Meaner than a junkyard dog.

  • leastyebejudged

Uhm, who exactly are those donors and why isn’t this bigger news here ?

    • Reality.Bites

Because another thread was created for it hours before this one.

  • DaveMiller135

Well, Brian, I am a gay marriage totalitarian, in the sense that I believe my friends who want to get married are totally free to do so, and should totally not be subject to your prejudice, dressed up as if it were religious doctrine, which in any case would totally date from a time when people totally believed the world was flat. Among other total nonsense.

  • Bj Lincoln

As long as we all follow the law, we CAN believe anything we want. So what’s his problem?

  • StraightGrandmother

I can’t help it, every time i see that acronym I start thinking of the song
    “Hello Mudda,
    Hello Fada,
Here I am a Camp Granada”

  • wmforr

Enough with yet another come-back tour, Brian! Sinatra you ain’t.

  • Dale082

Why not just Pray about it? Show us all just how strong your “faith” is. I’ve always heard that prayer can move mountains. How about demonstrating that Brian. Why do you need cash when The Lord is on your side? Just pray about it y’all!

  • SpiderPIG

Fada means fairy in Portuguese. True story.
