Rick Perry Runs Out Of Money, Stops Paying Staffers

Oh, this is just so, so sad. Rick Perry’s staffers have been told to get another gig. Via the Washington Post:

Former Texas governor Rick Perry’s presidential campaign is no longer paying its staff because fundraising has dried up, while his cash-flush allied super PAC is preparing to expand its political operation to compensate for the campaign’s shortcomings, campaign and super PAC officials and other Republicans familiar with the operation said late Monday. Perry, who has struggled to gain traction in his second presidential run, has stopped paying his staff at the national headquarters in Austin as well as in the early caucus and primary states of Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina, according to a Republican familiar with the Perry campaign who demanded anonymity because of the sensitivity of the situation. Perry campaign manager Jeff Miller told staff last Friday, the day after the first Republican presidential debate, that they would no longer be paid and are free to look for other jobs — and, so far at least, most aides have stuck with Perry — according to this Republican.

Here’s a 2011 flashback for your amusement.

  • Paula

    Buh bye, Ricky!

  • ColdCountry

    First one down.

  • WildGift

    Well that was fast…

    • Todd20036

      He was trumped

      • TampaDink

He’s probably been Abbotted a few times too. Or is that supposed to be spelled Abutted?

    • Paula

      That’s what his wife said!

  • LonelyLiberal

Apparently he’s too poor to pay dedicated staffers from his own pocket for the work they’re doing.

As I mentioned before, there’s a headline one never reads in the Republican party. If they wanted to get paid, guess they shouldn’t’ve backed a total loser.

Sorry dude but Cruz already took the Texas seat in the clown car.

    • Paula

Well, Hell! Everything is bigger in Texas. We get to have several loons in the foray.

      • Rambie

        But Cruz sits manspreading style.

      • 2karmanot

        That hasn’t been my experience.

    • TampaDink

Consider how many are running from Florida. Including those who have or would like to run Florida into the ground.
Marco Island Rubio, Jebya, Humpty Trumpty, & Huckabuck.

      • Homo Erectus

Don’t forget the good doctor Ben Carson.

        • TampaDink

I had forgotten that he is another one plaguing our state.
Wikipedia claims that he lives in Maryland. Hmmm.

          • Homo Erectus

He announced his intention to run from his home in Palm Beach. How could we be so lucky?

          • TampaDink

Ugh. I had missed that. Our luck is bottomless.

    • Homo Erectus

The only guy that could make Louie Gohmert look presidential.

  • Craig Howell

Words cannot express the depths of my sorrow at this news.

Let me help, Yee Haw !

    • RobynWatts

      I have two:

      • Hello, hivemind!

        • RobynWatts

          Great minds think alike. 😉

    • Rambie

The eternal words of Nelson comes to mind:

    • David in Tucson

      One one-hundred-twenty-eighth of an inch?

      • Robincho

I’m gunna go with two-hundred-eighty-eight — because, like Perry,
        that’s 2 gross…

  • Ed

Maybe Rick can get part time job at one Trumps hotels as a
    washroom attendant.

    • Chucktech

      He might like that… He’s certainly qualified…

      • JW Swift

  • BostonBud

I thought I had read an article that stated that he was just not paying staffers in ONE state but was continuing in Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

    • BostonBud

I guess it’s spreading like wildfire

      • TampaDink

Sometimes wildfires are needed for new growth.

  • anne marie in philly

bwhahahahahaha! this makes my day a bit brighter! one less assclown in the van!

  • Secure

Ronald Raven would not approve of the annoyingly bad musical choice in his anti-gay political ad.

  • MattM

“[A]nd, so far at least, most aides have stuck with Perry.”

That might be the saddest part about this whole thing. Perry himself is a closeted half-wit with delusions of grandeur. What are the aides’ excuses?

  • Dazzer

Presumably he can now use all the money raised in the Super PAC for ‘presidential campaign’ purposes without having to waste it on something as inconsequential as staff now…

    • William

Some of that money can be used to pay for his divorce.

  • DJ John Bear

Wonder what will become of his two bodyguards he is always flanked with. Are they still on his payroll?

    • “his payroll”

Is that what the kids are calling that part of the human anatomy nowadays?

  • i bet his boyfriend got tired of the show and wanted to go back to the play house for something less strenuous, like standing around counting his money while Rick blows him.

  • Michael Smith

He made a list of three ways he can save his campaign, but he already forgot what number three is.

  • bambinoitaliano

Choo choo train chuggin off the track. Gotta travel on never coming back. Woot ! Woot! Another one way ticket for a buffoon. Gonna take a trip to never town. Gonna stay at hard knocks hotel. A fool such as this will never realize the world he’s in…..

  • Todd20036

Ricky, both your first and second presidential runs can be summed up in a single word: Oops.

  • SockMikey

He might want to see if he can have “rosy tint” applied to his new glasses.

  • Stev84

So insane. He is broke, but his PAC thinks it’s a good idea to just waste more money.

    • Joe in PA

      because they can. Sigh.

  • Kissmagrits

He was told his new “smart” glasses would join his fabulous hair and make him a slam dunk prospect for 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. Clearly, the Force had other ideas.

  • He’s served FOUR terms (including finishing out GWB’s second term) as Governor of the largest red state in the country. Anyone with a half a brain and that resume would automatically be a top-tier candidate. But voters already know he doesn’t even have half a brain. If he couldn’t break into the top 10 to make it to the adult table debate, he’s already done. He’s just wasting other people’s time and money at this point.

    • MickinDetroit

isn’t the governorship in Texas basically a part time gig?

      • Sam_Handwich

among the weakest governorships in the country

        • You’d never know it the way every governor since Ann Richards has bloviated his way across the teevee screen.

    • By that logic the governors of NY and CA should be top tier Democratic candidates, but almost never are. Granted this is a particularly interesting case because Perry is a complete moron and Texas’ governors probably have the least executive powers of any holding that office.

      • John30013

The governors of NY and CA aren’t running in the next Presidential election. Are you saying they haven’t been top-tier candidates when they have run in the past?

        • I can think of one governor of California who went quite far in the Presidential race.

          • TampaDink

            Ah yes, Perry’s idol. Raven.

          • Also a governor of New York, come to think of it, but not nearly as recently.

          • John30013

Yes, but he was a Republican (and, I believe, a top-tier candidate). Your original question was about Democratic governors.

          • Not mine, but you’re correct. To answer the original question, somewhat, California really doesn’t produce many (if any) top-tier candidates – they’ve only had two Democratic governors since 1968. The electoral votes tend to go blue, but the governorship seems to lean red. It’s weird.

New York has a different problem. The Democrats who’ve been elected recently have all turned out to be terrible, scandal-ridden politicos.

          • John30013

Sorry about the misattribution. I read your reply in the Disqus view and got confused about the original poster.

I don’t disagree with your analysis about recent NY and CA guvs.

        • Very rarely. The last CA governors to win the nomination were Republicans. (Reagan was the last one.) Yes, Cuomo (the father) was often talked about as a potential candidate but he never actually ran. No idea if he’d have had read traction since it never actually happened. Who was the last NY governor to do well in presidential politics? Roosevelt? Thomas Dewey was the nominee in 1948. That’s the last NY governor at the top of the ticket. (Nelson Rockefeller was veep briefly under Ford.)

    • 2karmanot

He’s just settling for a little grifter pot like most of those losers. He’ll be able to pay off the mortgage on his ‘N’ ranch.

  • oikos
    • Chucktech

And you just KNOW he’s thinking, “Goddammit, I just hate doing shit like this…”

      • 2karmanot

Yep, it’s much more fun at a Texas interstate rest stop.

    • 2karmanot

How cool is that? Ricky sucks a selfie dog.

      • oikos

Looks as if he has been practicing. 🙂

  • Say goodnight, Gracie!

    • Soren456

      Goodnight Gracie.

  • mikeinrkfd

    This is just so sad…

    • TampaDink

      In the most delightful way.

  • So they’re just working without getting paid? Is this like those unpaid internships that are necessary for certain careers but obviously only an option for people with trust funds and/or rich parents?

  • Stopped paying his staffers? Well, shades of Mitt Romney on election night.

    • TampaDink

He wanted to get this out of the way early on.
Hopefully his pending indictment will give him something to do.
(Like…..Go to jail. Go directly to jail….)

    • Chucktech

Romney had (of course, HAS) more money than gawd, he was just screwing over people who were no longer of use to him. Perry is just flat broke. I do see a difference.

  • RobynWatts

Obviously, the “smart glasses” did not help you, pRicky. Too bad, not sad.

  • Mike C

  • Octavio

He can always set up a web site and sell photos of his junk. Many are interested.

    • Chucktech

      I’d take a peek… Bet he’s got a darn nice Texas Pee-pee…

      • Octavio

He looks and sounds like so many (and there were many) middle age Texas Bubbas cruising on the down-low at Hippie Hollow before Hippie Hollow became overgrown with tracts of housing on the above cliffs. Good ol’ boyze taking an extra long lunch during mid week. Yep. There’s no question there were lots of otherwise “straight” Bubbas who had a mean need for some man action. I’m sure they still do.

    • 2karmanot

What? Shetlands sell these days? Never heard of that niche market.

      • Octavio

Meanest pieces of s**t that pass as horse flesh. Mean, mean, mean. I hate the little darlings. I know plenty of farriers who feel the same way.

  • Ninja0980

Couldn’t have happened to a nicer buffoon.

  • Cuberly

But, but…he can’t bail out. He’s the most gaffetastic candidate there is! He generated one of his best f’ups last week. Ronald Raven!

Poor, poor ricky, never more, never more $$$. 🙁

  • 2karmanot

  • Reality.Bites

Wasn’t it nice of him to tell his unpaid staff they were free to go?

Think of all the unpleasantness that could have been avoided if his ancestors had been so enlightened.

  • Blobby

Perry is unelectable and a horrible person. And still there are a good 5 others in this race I’d rather see go broke before he did.

  • SFHarry

Typical Republican: work for me for free even though I am rich and have a lot of money.

  • Michael Hampton

    Karma sure is a bitch.

  • Mark

Seems the smart thing here to do is cash in them glasses and take that hair on back to the ranch.

  • Rob

I love how we are supposed to think he’s intelligent because they put a pair of fake glasses on him.

  • Dennis

Yeah, jump from the sinking ship. Sorry staffers couldn’t get paid but I’m sure it’s just something you deal with in any campaign.

  • thevofl

  • SilasMarner

    Pity…said ala Vera Charles

  • Porkie

Don’t fuck with Tinky Winky. He will chase you down, he will hunt you, …..he will own you in the end.

  • stanhope

LOL as if…….his narcissistic azz could ever do anything more than be a White House guide…..oh perhaps not….apparently they have to have the intellect of a sixth grader.

  • 2guysnamedjoe

Stiffing your creditors worked brilliantly for Trump.

  • Robincho

    Perry, Perry, dumb and scary,
    How does your “campaign” grow?
At Niggerhead the buzz is dead,
And now there is no place to go…

  • Bj Lincoln

    Awwwww…What a fucking shame.

  • houstonray

Poor Rick….guess the fake glasses didn’t really make him smarter.

  • ScottJ

He needs to suck more Koch

  • BobSF_94117

The purpose of his campaign was to create a rich PAC.

    Mission Accomplished
