JMG Commenting Reminder

As I do a couple of times a year, today I again caution you that even the most idle and
“jokey” threats of physical harm to any person or property are
completely unacceptable on JMG.  Also strongly discouraged are expressed wishes of physical harm to others by any means, including natural ones. Please remain aware that JMG
comments are often scoured by the enemies of civil equality who look for
any opportunity to republish ill-considered reactions to the news
reported here.

We sometimes see more than 50,000 – 100,000 comments per month and I cannot
personally read but a
fraction of them. Therefore I must rely on the JMG community to stay
self-policing and notify me by email should any comment concern you. Be
advised that in many cases these comments are posted by drive-by
trolls in order to grab triumphant screen-shots for use elsewhere.
You’ve been remarkably great about observing these very few commenting
rules and I thank you for that.

  • This place is usually a pretty great place to read the comments…even when I sometimes disagree with them. (Usually it’s 100% right on.) The self-policing does seem to work, most of the time!

    tl;dr: Thanks for having us!

    • SJWinCMH

I was thinking the very same thing. JMG is the one site I check everyday without fail. I might not comment as much as some but the comments here are always thoughtful, inciteful, and fucking hilarious. Thank you Joe and thanks to everyone for making this a great place to hang out!

      • DonnaLee

I check here before the actual news sites.

  • Kevin Perez
  • Gest2016

Thanks for the reminder. We all are accountable to a higher standard than the majority of sociopathic bigots who can threaten mass murder with impunity by merely citing Leviticus or some other convenient religious myth. It’s too bad we have a double standard in our country where our enemies can constantly bait us with death threats, and we must respond with compassion. Oh well, it has made us better people.

    • BlueberriesForMe

I advised a friend recently that sometimes you have to “be the better person” or make the 1st attempt to solving
a problem even though you know the problem was not caused by you and the other person just needs to grow up and stop acting like a 2 yr old.
It can be a real challenge and sometimes there’s no solution except to realize whatever it is is not going to be resolved anytime soon. Also, the other person is likely to be having OTHER issues and is “lashing out” at whoever is available. There are times when taking no action is the best route. However, sometimes doing SOMETHING, even if it’s something you strongly feel YOU shouldn’t have to do, gets the ball rolling to resolution.

      • Joseph Miceli

And then again, there are some evil fucks that should NOT be treated with understanding, compassion or kid gloves. Scott Lively is just one. Do we threaten him? No! That just makes him money. We do discredit him and turn him into a laughing stock, though.
You can’t extend your hand to a rabid dog without getting it bitten off.

  • Corey

So this means no indirect wishes of natural death including “the older bigoted GOP base supporters will die off.”

    • JT

That would seem to be a simple demographic truth.

    • Ginger Snap

I was wondering about the Rapture? I mean they want it to happen so is it wrong to hope it arrives?

      • Rocketeer500

I’m with you. God bless the rapture.

      • gaymex

Aren’t we helping them by wishing they would all die? Jesus TODAY. If I believed their fairy story I wouldn’t waste my time getting all frustrated with queers on earth…I’d just end it. Sweet Jesus I’m coming home.

        • GC

I don’t get tired of sharing this video. If religious people really believed in heaven rather than just hoping for it, the world would be very different….
          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dMaK6k4oZ20

          • gaymex

That was great. I hadn’t seen it and I can’t wait to share it.

    • John P.

So I can’t say “You have no power here. Be gone before someone drops a house on you!”

      • Rocketeer500

Well, tornadoes do pick up houses and drop them or at least, scatter the pieces in a large area.

      • Mark

No.no.. That is ok. Glenda is on our side.

      • B Snow

You’re okay as long as you include the quotation marks 🙂

    • Gustav2

      They respond to:

“I’m tempted to call nanny, and have you put to bed with no supper.”

    • Rocketeer500

Gentrification, GOP or otherwise, will lead to the eventual conclusion.

  • Craig S

Thanks for running a very enjoyable/interesting/entertaining/informative forum. Reading JMG has become past of my morning ritual and I do enjoy the comments. I have much appreciation for those who can passionately disagree without making it personal.

    • anne marie in philly

RAMEN, bro! I learn much over here; I see articles I NEVER see on other MSM sites.

  • ExGayTherapyKills

Anti-gay Christians come here to post their lies and propaganda and also threats that they will use to make LGBT people look bad. Any and all haters of LGBT people have been using more and more psychological warfare here and everywhere LGBT people go. Do not be fooled by these evil anti-gay Christians who only want LGBT people to get upset and say or do something so they can use it against them. If an anti-gay person threatens you report it to law enforcement and walk away. In the twisted minds of evil anti-gay Christians and others they think they are fighting a real war, people like this are Scott Lively and Brian Brown. They have mental problems and need to be brought to justice for their crimes against humanity. Expose these evil anti-gay people and their crimes and push to get them convicted and put in prison where they belong.

  • gaymex

While I understand why Joe has to post that message, it doesn’t prevent total fabrication of remarks attributed to this site. They don’t need to see a remark in print to say that it was made. They can come here and make a remark like “all christians should be burned at the stake” and then say that it was one of us. It’s hard to win when they have no rules.

    • pj

      or morals

      • Blake Jordan

Ironic since some sort of morality was one of the original purposes of religion…

        • pj

i find a lot of what religion says ironic. like the head of the catholic church in switzerland saying we should be murdered. or the ministers in houston saying we dont deserve basic human rights after they cheated on their first attempt to deny us those rights. and thats just today.

          • gaymex

Your reminder makes it difficult not to respond to them with both barrels blazing.

        • Christopher

I always refer back to this…

    • Cuberly

Have you noticed that half the time Breitbarters venture to JMG they report back to Breitbart that we’re all supposedly talking about ass-fucking and how much we hate christians?

Half the time when they come here to scour for an off comment to screen cap they come up with bupkiss. That means they go back empty handed, and apparently titillated.

      • gaymex

I, for one, would never be so unseemly as to talk about ass-fucking on JMG, but I do think about it quite a bit and I certainly enjoy reading about it.

        • Cuberly

Ha! I was being snarky, when they return to breitbart they tend to exaggerate what JMGers post.

          • gaymex

I knew you were, but then I starting thinking about assfucking and I got all confused

          • Cuberly

Got ya flustered did I?…lol…. 😉

          • gaymex

yep, but in a really good way. It’s on my mind now…my poor husband is smiling so peacefully in the hammock that I almost feel sorry for him. little does he know…lol.

          • Cuberly

Have at it. 🙂 Play nice. Unless not nice is your thing then…well…

  • Cuberly

And I’m the first to admit I’ve drive-by trolled Breitbart, Barbwire…etc for screen caps of their bile.

I find it interesting that one errant comment here can be screen capped and then richochet through wingnuttia like mad. Yet on a daily basis the number of death threats posted at Breitbart for instance hardly register a blip.

    • Blake Jordan

While their violent comments are the ones that scarily could become a reality for some innocent victim, and ours are just venting because of all the hatred we face!!!

      • Cuberly

        True.

The degree of detail and viciousness over there though……we’ve all had our moments, but over there, some get just a little too involved with their “imagined” murder scenarios.

        • Joseph Miceli

Every time I go over there I have to take a Silkwood bath after. There are some very evil people on that site.

          • Cuberly

Going over there is definitely hazardous. But going to Barbwire is quite entertaining. That site has become a full-on biblical countdown to tribulation insane asylum. Reading complete nutcases going on and on about the signs of the end times and how Jebus is, or isn’t, coming any second now is rather amusing. Well, that and tragically sad.

          • Bj Lincoln

They too have their dangerous evil ideas and comments. I am not allowed to comment because I told the truth.

  • Ginger Snap

I’d like to thank everyone who has kept me in check when I’ve gone off the rails.

    • bambinoitaliano

Yes. There are days I need straight jacket. A jar of Vaseline and pull my hair back 🙂 Thanks guys!

      • Todd20036

Is that your idea of fun? I like it!

        • bambinoitaliano

Not quite Turkish oil wrestling consider where I live it’ll do.

      • Joe in PA

wow, did you just say “jar of Vaseline and pull my hair”?

        ok.

      • Joseph Miceli

        Call me!

        • bambinoitaliano

          Oh my! 🙂

    • olandp

Ginger, you may go off the rails, but never off the stilettos.

      • Ginger Snap

True, I’ve never fallen in a pair of heels. Put me in men’s shoes and I fell so bad it’s taken four years six doctors and five surgeries to get me walking again. Life is odd sometimes.

        • Joseph Miceli

Well, the answer is obviously to stay in heels!

          • Mark

I thought the obvious answer was to simply keep your feet….up. 🙂

          • JCF
          • Ginger Snap

I wish, but my leg and ankle are forever damaged. They will never be strong enough to wear heels again.

          • Joseph Miceli

I can’t “like” that comment. I’m so sorry. Flats and wedges for you, my Love.

          • Ginger Snap

No heels=Retired Drag Queen. I gave 20 years of my life to being Ginger and without heels she doesn’t have the will to perform anymore. I’ll always be Ginger but I’m thoroughly enjoying being Colin again. Life is an adventure and I like a good ride.

          • Joseph Miceli

            AMEN to that!

    • Cuberly

OT: Had to send this your way dear heart. In case you didn’t see it. Alexander Skarsgard in drag at a movie premiere at the Castro Theater. Check out the pics, he’s got a pretty fierce Farrah goin on there. (Thought you’d like it. 🙂

      http://blog.sfgate.com/dailydish/2015/08/04/alexander-skarsgard-looks-gorgeous-in-drag-at-s-f-premiere-of-new-movie/#photo-671891

  • as i’m fond of saying, i don’t wish death or injury on those i believe are evil and corrupt; i wish them long life and health… in prison.

death is too good for some of these people, but jail would be just fine (i’m looking at you, Cheney).

    • Joseph Miceli

Only after a VERY long and humiliating trial.

    • anne marie in philly

      RAMEN, girl!

  • olandp

Does that mean that I can’t call that fuckwad a fuckwad any more?

    • 2guysnamedjoe

      Calling a fuckwad a fuckwad isn’t a threat. It’s merely an observation.

      • Steverino

As is calling an asshole an asshole. But commenting “fuck that asshole” may be borderline.
        ; )

        • Reality.Bites

And making borderline comments about Donald Trump makes him threaten to put up a wall around them.

        • Miji

I’m usually far from this line, but while we’re exploring the boundary, . . . say some fuckwad implies that one could have a romantic relationship with a lawnmower. Would I be crossing the line if I suggest that said fuckwad should go explore that relationship sexually knowing that this could cause grave bodily harm? #askingforafriend

          • Mark

Only if the mower is a honda…. B&S aren’t allowed

          • Seeing as how a woman got mowed over by said implement in a murder case here in Willard last week…

            Topical 😀

  • People4Humanity

    Ill-conceived comments can be user-edited.
Posted pictures can only be removed by Joe.

  • Lakeview Bob

I think I said the other day that I wished Huckabee would be ……I will look for it and edit it. I apologize.

    • Todd20036

If the end of that sentence reads “underneath me.”, seek therapy

      • Lakeview Bob

Now that is repulsive. No nasty comments allowed! LOL

    • Lakeview Bob

I withdraw my apology. I searched back several weeks and could not find the comment I thought I had posted . I am much better at thinking evil hurtful things than actually saying or doing it. I guess that is what differentiates me from most republicans.

  • Steverino

Now if we could just get rid of the “I made $5K a month lying flat on my back” postings.

    • The Larry Mac

On that topic, and not directed to anybody in particular …

      • Reality.Bites

I think most of the replies to the “earn money” spams are in the nature of amused commentary, not an attempt to engage in conversation with the spammer. In other words, in exactly the same vein as the post of yours I’m responding to.

  • JoyZeeBoy

Sigh. But it’s okay for “them” to advocate the death of us. Look, I understand the policy and I agree with it. But sometimes I just wanna strangle someone (theoretically, of course).

    • Baltimatt

I’d like to think we are better than they are. Also, just as their threats detract from their message, any such language here detracts from ours.

      • Grin&BearIt

Also the handful of users here that sometimes turn subjects into personal attacks instead of addressing the subject and engaging in meaningful conversation.

Back & Forth, Back & Forth.

There’s not many of them, but it does sometimes shutdown commentary and looks childish.

        • Baltimatt

I’ve found it better not to engage some people.

        • B Snow

Sometimes I’ll just scroll past the bickering and get back to the interesting comments.

      • SJWinCMH

We are better and that has got to hurt. I can’t even imagine how awful it must be to be so unhappy, fearful and impotently full of rage.

    • Gigi

You have the right to say and feel whatever you like, but this is Joe’s blog. That being said, I totally know how you feel. You wanna know what I do when I want to piss some haters off? I go to Christian websites and pose as a straight Christian man who supports gay rights and SSM. And I know more scripture than they do so…I have a lot of fun with them.

    • Homer strangles Bart all the time, for decades now, and Bart is still alive. 😉

      • danolgb

There’s a theory that Simspons went all Roseanne on us years ago and Homer is still in the coma from the April Fools joke.

    • gaymex

This has always helped me in times of stress.

  • gaymex

I’ve always been a secret admirer of Jim Jones…Is that wrong?

    • 2guysnamedjoe

♫ Your secret is no secret, any more ♫

      • SockMikey

Now I have Doris Day songs echoing in my head! 🙂

      • gaymex

lol. It’s in my past. Now I only think of him when the christians do or say something terrible about gays. I wonder why they never bring up his name?

        • Octavio

I think it’s because he looked so much like Roy Orbison. 🙂

    • William
      • gaymex

William, thanks for that. I didn’t know about it. Once again I learn something new from JMG.

  • Charlie 2001

There are two moral precepts that might apply:
    1. An eye for and eye and
    2. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you (the golden rule).
I try and stick with the latter but I think the first one represents justice.

Is it wrong to mention that every tornado that hits Oklahoma is God’s punishment for their bigotry?

  • Gigi

    Thanks for the reminder Joe.

  • Bj Lincoln

Thank you Joe for giving us a place to air our gripes and comment on the issues. While I have been very angry at times and had my share of rants, the conversation is civil and informative most of the time.

  • cmh

I occasionally have a run in with a guy from hs (why is it always the high school folks on fb) who is a conservative Jew and when I mentioned that there was nothing to his assertions and in fact that I read over here and never see the stuff he was saying he said he read here too.

  • Octavio

But an ass wipe is still an ass wipe is still an ass wipe, right? Phylis Schlafley, Brian Brownstain, Bryan Bye-Felicia Fisher, and Tony Perkkkins are still ass wipes. Right? After all, what would Gertrude Stein do? 🙂

    • 2karmanot

“what would Gertrude Stein do? :-)” Get the hell outta Oakland for starters and then commence to commence while commensing to write the most annoying tripe this side of Anus Rand. Opps, I am repeating herself.

      • Octavio

“Heh, heh, heh . . . now, there you go again.” (big Reagan smile)

        • William

          That phrase causes me the strong urge to do a ‘love hug around the throat, with both hands’;

    • JCF

      Alice B Toklas!

  • GayOldLady

Joe, this forum is great. I’ve rarely seen expressions that I would consider threatening. I think the suggestion to flag those type of comments is a good one. The flying monkeys do a great job of getting their point across with great humor and decency. That’s much more than I can say for our adversaries.

  • 2karmanot

Does that mean we can’t wish a visit from a certain dentist?

    • William

Alex Jones’ father? (He’s a notoriously bad dentist in Austin).

  • Christopher

Does this count as wishing harm on America? 😉

  • I heart you, Joe Jervis. Long may you blog.

  • NancyP

I have always wished enemies a speedy inditement and lengthy expensive trial. My theory is, the loudmouths are picking on scapegoats so people don’t notice the loudmouths’ insider trading deals (too numerous to mention), domestic sexual abuse (Duggars), or other misbehavior.

  • ChadSF

I have typed at the fit of rage, cool my head off and then re-typed my comments, so that I don’t come across as making a threat. But I tell you, it is difficult to do especially when we read news about the attacks towards our LGBTQ brothers and sisters, including straight allies this past week. At times, I just don’t leave a comment and turn to something else less depressing.
But this is a good reminder, so thank you Joe for this reminder.

  • StraightGrandmother

I have reported comments to Joe that he has removed. A few of them were racist comments, and wishes for harm to others. I don’t do it a lot because frankly not many ppl on JMG make those kind of comments. If I see a blatant one I do report it, Joe asks us to.

  • Though, like I saw downthread, the arse-monkeys in Wingnuttia and Bullshit Mountain will even take a *positive* statement we’ve made and turn it into some sort of persecution meme.

May as well get a few swings in if they’re gonna keep turning our words against us.

  • BudClark

But JOE (he whined), this asshole of a Catholic bishop can call for our execution with impunity, and all we can do is wish him a case of explosive diarrhea in the middle of Pontifical Solemn Mass?

    Doesn’t seem fair, somehow .

  • Six Pins Delores

On occasion I relax and shoot my ignorant mouth off here but only because I feel comfortable and like I am in good company. I Will Try To Follow Your Rules Blog Daddy.

  • Thank you for this wise reminder.

  • Rick Zajac

Well, all right. If you’re going to be like that, gee whiz. Shucks.

  • SoCalVet

The supreme court isn’t nearly as uptight about it as you are. 😉

  • JCF

    Kill ’em w/ kindness.*

    * Kill the bigotry, not the (hopefully ex-)bigots.

  • ExGayTherapyKills

If anybody here is making death threats it would be the anti-gay Christians and Catholics who keep saying it over and over again what they want to do to LGBT people. People who kill others are psychotic criminals who belong in prison.
