Anti-Gay Group Vows To Boycott Major Retailer Over LGBT Rights Support

Since there are already at least a dozen “major” boycotts underway for the same reason, we’re not sure why this is supposed to be news.

Pastor Bill Owens of the Coalition of African-American Pastors met with the delegation in Dallas and says religious rights of Christians have been harmed by the Supreme Court decision and will continue to be in the future. Owens tells OneNewsNow the reason is the Church was not an effective force in the battle for biblical marriage. “We’re going to pick a major store chain to boycott. We’ve already picked the boycott,” he explains. “We’re not announcing which one yet, but we’ll boycott one day all over the country and let them know that they cannot talk out of both ends of their mouths by supporting everything the gay community does.”

I’m guessing Walmart, but who knows?

  • Joseph Miceli

Impotent cry-baby hate filled hypocrites whining about how they can’t oppress others? Gee, I certainly support their freedom to make asses out of themselves.

  • Phil
    • TreGibbs

      So great… Thanks for posting.

  • Baltimatt

How have the religious rights of Christians been harmed?

    • Disqusdmnj

They don’t get to impose their beliefs on everyone else as much anymore.

      Waaaaaahhhhhhhh…

  • bryan

.”We’re going to pick a major store chain to boycott.” / Sounds pretty random. Maybe they should boycott everything, to be on the safe side.

    • crewman

I wonder if they’re aware that some particles of the air they are currently breathing were breathed by an LGBT person at some point in the recent past. To be safe, they should boycott air too.

    • David Walker

I can’t think of a major chain that hasn’t been Officially Boycotted yet. Maybe one of the dollar store chains.

    • nocadrummer

I’d guess Brooks Brothers, or Bergdorf Goodman.
After all, no one would join them for Wal-Mart, and it’s easy to boycott places you don’t go anyway.

    • DavidR51

That statement is so wishy-washy. They are planning a boycott of a major store chain, but they have not decided which one? I guess they are running out of stores to boycott that they have use a spreadsheet to figure out which one. Go right ahead with another frivolous, stupid boycott that won’t do jack shit to that company.

  • lymis

If these people actually boycotted any of the stores they announce they were boycotting, they might accomplish something. But they never do. Remember all the years of boycotting Disney? Park attendance and movie sales only went up. Same with Home Depot.

For how long have these clowns claimed that they were boycotting Apple, Microsoft, and the tech and internet carriers, and yet somehow manage to maintain an internet presence?

At the corporate level, by now, major companies have pretty much realized that these boycotts don’t cost them any business, and actually do the reverse by publicly highlighting the fact that they have pro-gay policies, which may get them some customers who would otherwise have overlooked them.

    • John Masters

And of course, should be boycott a business, it is economic terrorism…righteous when they do it.

    • BobSF_94117

I think the boycotts on Disney and HD actually cost those corporations millions of dollars. Of course, they also earned them millions of dollars.

  • Webslinger

this is all I think about when I hear about these people

  • dcurlee

You would think due to their success rate they wouldn’t want egg on their faces again….but hey go ahead and show your stupidity

  • AtticusP

These people will soon be naked and shivering around campfires in caves if this keeps up.

    Works for me.

  • Dale Snyder

    Go for it, christian asswipe.

  • Ninja0980

    Bring it on asshole.

  • JT

Let’s see if the pastor takes care of his flock on Grindr.

  • oikos

I’ve lost count of how may boycotts they have going. I wish he’d tell us which company so I could decide whether to buy stock in it.

    • Reality.Bites

There is actually no correlation between their boycotts and increased stock price.

      • oikos

I know that. Is there some reason you feel a need to constantly try to correct anything I say?

  • Webslinger

    Jon nails it….

  • mikeinrkfd

    But who cares?

  • They are going to “boycott” for one day. So everyone in support of this “boycott” will rush to that store the day before or the day after to get anything they might need/want and then crow about their “boycott” on their special day of days. Dumbfucks.

    • Cosmo Tupper

I think he means that one day they will start their ineffective boycott. Especially if the boycott involves Wal-Mart. Good luck with that!

    • Reality.Bites

(Hadn’t read this when I made the same point ½ hour later)

    • Reminds me of the email that went around a few years ago trying to organize a “protest” in which people would stop buying gas on Thursdays. Of course they’d be buying the same amount of gas just on Wednesdays and Fridays instead. Like that would make any difference to anyone. (Actually it would save the stations money if they could close once a week!) Not, drive 14% less. That would have an affect on prices. Conservatives don’t get that in order to effect change, you have to give up things you like in the process. They want to boycott without being inconvenienced. That’s never going to give any results which is why their boycotts always fail.

    • HadenoughBS

It’s so supremely gratifying here in 2015 to see a “coalition of African-American” pastors institute a retailer boycott to suppress the civil rights of LGBT citizens as if similar heinous efforts to suppress the civil rights of our fellow African-American citizens, especially during the horrible Jim Crow era, never happened. I suppose “blind faith” leads some in this minority to use the hate foisted upon them to themselves foist it upon another minority. Very sad.

      • Bj Lincoln

I truly can’t understand how they can do this. Or how they can follow a belief system that makes it alright.

        • TampaZeke

They follow a belief system and a religion that was responsible for their enslavement, oppression and marginalization for centuries. It shouldn’t be too hard to believe that it would then lead them to believe that it’s OK to oppress and marginalize others.

          • Corey

As an African-American who unfortunately had to endure the homophobia of the South Baptist church, I continue not to be surprise. Homophobia has always been there. It is just more apparent given that the Civil Rights era is over. Mental health issues are also stigmatized. I am still overcoming both.

          • Corey

…Southern Baptist church, I continue not to be surprised…

            Damn cellphone typing

          • clay

2000 years ago they called that “possession”, but we can’t be having that these days, so they changed their understanding of possession to be things like bone spurs and hallucinations.

      • Michael Rush

I’m guessing they’re going to boycott
        those sodomite semen lattes .

        • Bad Tom

          Leaves more for us!

      • TreGibbs

Unbelievable isn’t it? It’s a testament to just how powerful hatred can be. Truly, the Dark Side.

      • Goodboy

Same hate and the same type of people they’ve now allied themselves with.

      • Nexus1

This groups isn’t really a coalition of African American anything, they are a NOM front group and there are only like two actual African American pastors in it. lol Most Black people are trying to live their lives and keep their sons and daughters from being ‘isolated incidents’ by the police, they don’t have time to worry about LGBT people. You only have a handful of bigots that see $ signs in being anti gay and stirring up shit to get attention. Pastor Hitler stache here is happy to put his foot on the neck of gays in order to make money and be flown around the country to be the Black face of anti gay bigotry for NOM.

    • Snarkaholic

If their boycott day is also Senior Discount day, sales will plummet by $1.75!

    • Herald

That sums it up. They have figured out, maybe, that their base will not sustain a long term boycott.Of course one day events are great for show and press releases that stir up the base and grifting opportunities.

      • clay

And even if they could sustain a long-term boycott, like a ten year -term boycott, it would still fail– just ask the SBC how that Disney thinga-ma-jig worked out.

    • Captain Jack

This is old but I love posting it..

  • Cosmo Tupper

Dear Pastor Bill Owens, With ALL due respect, FUCK OFF! Guess that means I’m disrespectful…..but only to judgmental haters. Judge not…….

    • Snarkaholic

Don’t worry; Jesus said to ‘Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,’ and so, since they treat others like crap, they obviously want to be treated the same.

      • grada3784

I thought that too, but none of them ever told me the foul names they liked to be called.

        • Snarkaholic

Well, then, this is your chance to be creative!
          A few suggestions:
          1. “Christian” (using dramatic air quotes)
          2. Filthy hypocrite
          3. Homosexual (according to James 2:10, whoever commits even ONE sin is GUILTY of ALL; so, since they insist that being gay is a sin, then they, too, are filthy queers(!)

  • bkmn

If they want to prove something they could boycott their tax-exempt status. Not holding my breath.

  • JaniceInToronto

    Yawn.

  • Tipsy
  • Cuberly

    So they’re boycott shopping.

Is it any wonder why they suck so hard at boycotts?

  • Elaygee

    Yawn

  • BrianInNH

It will probably be Target. Just like the other boycotts, almost no one will even know it is happening or care.

  • Reality.Bites

Considering the “Coalition of African-American Pastors” doesn’t exist (it’s an astroturf group), I don’t expect their boycott will have any impact.

Also – and this is something that happened during gasoline boycotts – not buying something on a Thursday, but buying it instead on a Wednesday or Friday, has no impact. If you’re not going to shop at Z-mart EVER, then it makes a difference. A one-day boycott? Meaningless even if it actually happens.

    • The first question I ask when someone wants me to stop doing X is “what should I do instead?” Boycotting WalMart because of how they treat their employees but shopping instead at another store whose policies are no better doesn’t help.

      • Reality.Bites

There are, of course, stores that treat their employees much better, but not that offer the one-stop shopping that Walmart does. I’m retired and use shopping as an excuse to bike all over the city, but most people don’t have that kind of time.

        • Costco is the only one I can think of. I worked for a major department store chain right out of school. They went to great lengths to avoid paying any benefits or giving anyone a raise. I was the #1 salesperson in the #2 department of the #1 store and even i couldn’t make my sales quota for a 10 cent an hour raise.

If there are exceptions other than Costco I’d like to know.

          • Reality.Bites

Publix, the southeast US grocery chain.

          • I loved that store when I was away on a long singing gig in Florida many years ago.

  • Richard Rush

Although there is no organized boycott of churches, the reality is that churches are being boycotted, but without using the b-word. And unlike the Christian boycotts of secular businesses, the de facto boycott of churches is becoming increasingly successful.

    http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/acts-of-faith/wp/2015/05/12/christianity-faces-sharp-decline-as-americans-are-becoming-even-less-affiliated-with-religion/

Christianity is on the decline in America, not just among younger generations or in certain regions of the country but across race, gender, education and geographic barriers. The percentage of adults who describe themselves as Christians dropped by nearly eight percentage points in just seven years to about 71 percent, according to a survey conducted by the Pew Research Center.

    • Herald

The greater problem to the church is not just the Nones but the Dones. People of faith who are fed up with the church’s hypocrisy, hate, and nastiness. These people were the volunteers and contributors the church depends on.

  • MDB

I’m not sure that Family Dollar qualifies as a “major retailer” – a chain store, though, for sure. BOO.FUCKING.HOO.

    • Those Dollar chains are the reasons WalMart is not doing as well as they have been. Yes, people are now so poor that they can’t afford WalMart. Let that thought sing in for awhile.

  • Are there any retailers that don’t have some level of nondiscrimination rules that include gays? Even Chick-Fil-A claims not to discriminate against gay employees. (I admit to being skeptical of that one but I can’t think of any cases demonstrating that they have treated gay workers unfairly for being gay.) So where are they going to shop if they boycott this one chain? Another retailer with the same policies?

  • Well, that’s about as transparent as it gets: They’re going to pick someone to boycott, but they’re not going to tell us who yet.

Someone hasn’t been getting enough attention.

    • Was he paid to boycott a business, by the business to get more people in the stores? It’s worked for every other company that has been boycotted.

  • Raising_Rlyeh

If it is Wal-Mart it’s kind of funny to see them boycott the right company, but for all the wrong reasons.

  • Mark

Well, let us know which place you’re not going to go….so we can all go there without your bigoted asses.

  • TexPlant

Somehow I think they will survive

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

    Guess the Mystery BoyCott??
I’m joining those who have guessed it will be Target.
Reason: This next sentence sounds awkward and looks like he deliberately did not say “the target”.
    > “We’ve already picked the boycott, …”

  • Dreaming Vertebrate

CAAP is a FALSE, fully funded, drive-the-wedge front group. Emails and funding were found from NOM with the stated goal of driving a wedge between the African American community and the LGBT community, despite a long history of mutual support between these groups.

“Owens’ organization is a front group for the National Organization for Marriage (NOM), a group that explicitly worked to foment animosity between “gays and blacks.” Internal NOM documents leaked in 2012 uncovered a concerted strategy geared toward stoking African-American opposition to marriage equality. “The strategic goal of this project,” a 2009 document stated, “is to drive a wedge between gays and blacks – two key Democratic constituencies.”

  • While attempting to find out which church “Pastor” Bill Owens is pastor of I came across this little gem about the CAAP website possibly being hacked. HA!

Will keep checking to find out the congregation he supposedly leads.

  • clay

‘Cause the Hebrews spent (one day) wandering in the wilderness, and Israel spent (one day) in Babylonian captivity. Jesus spent (one day) fasting in the wilderness fighting the temptations of immediate physical need, demanding proof from God, and seizing political power.

Yeah, one day should do it.

Similarly, bakeries, florists, photographers, caterers, inn keepers, etc. need only turn down money from ONE homo couple, but are free to profit from all the rest.

Yeah, only one company should be enough.

  • Herr Owens

Anyone else catch the uncanny resemblance that Pasture Owens bears to Adolf Hitler, what with his little shit-stained of a Dirty Sánchez moustache? Ask around the members of his Dallas congregation, and see how many of the women this wolf-rapist-in-sheeps’-clothing has “healed” by putting his hands on them. Ask how many teenaged girls have lost their precious Gawd-given virginity to him. Ask how many of his out-of-wedlock children he does not support. Black pastors railing against Equal Rights ALWAYS and without fail have a long sordid history of sexual sins and crimes in their background. This one will be no different.

  • LovesIrony

    Woolworths?

    • Where It Hurts

Nah, these bitches are gonna boycott the hymies at Neiman-Marcus.

    • TreGibbs

great reference! I was going to say, “Korvettes?”

  • TampaZeke

This just proves that George Wallace comes in all colors and shades.

    • Equality ± Progress

Yep, true Equality. Odd how it doesn’t feel like progress.

  • Jax Blaze

Pastor Bill Owens, I have 2 questions for you.

    1) If any sort of discrimination becomes legally possible, do you think discrimination will be limited to only gay men or the LGBT community ?

    2) What if the shops bans all African-American people ? What would you call it then ? Will you be comfortable to explain to all African-American community what happened?

  • bambinoitaliano

Where has he been hiding? Someone send him a list of the companies that support the LBGT community. Also tell him to book a dump truck , he is going to have a lot of stuff he need to toss away.

  • TreGibbs

As long as they leave Starbucks alone. I’m just not myself without my Semen Latte…

  • Love this guy, and he is spot on about the role religion should play in our government.

    https://youtu.be/b7wsXYScJmo

    • TreGibbs

That guy nailed it ! So awesome.

    • gaymex

Thank you for that. There is hope.

  • ExGayTherapyKills

It is anti-gay black Christians like them who drive up the cases of HIV and AIDS because they drive our black LGBT brothers and sisters into the closet to hide because the African Americans are trying to look good and show the world they are not gay. Mean while millions of Africans and African Americans are dying AIDS.

  • BobSF_94117

I don’t know about you, but I’m on pins and needles…

  • Timothy Kincaid

I hope they announce soon. I have some shopping to do.

    • Beagle

Maybe they’ll never announce it. It’ll be a Double Secret Boycott.

  • Tammy Rainey

LOL yup. We’re gonna boycott Wednesday so I’ll go get my toilet paper and dog food and smokes on Tuesday so I can make it til Thursday.

  • DaveMiller135

I’m already boycotting Walmart about the everybody’s a manager (no overtime), locking people in at night, workers on public assistance, business. Will this new boycott mean I have to go shop there that day? I’m asking for a friend.

  • Pablo from Miami

One day boycott? Let me know when… I would enjoy Christian-free shopping day.

  • SilasMarner

How many large corporations have crumbled and gone out of business since these fucking xtians have started boycotting them? I don’t believe I’ve heard of one yet.

  • JCF

Please, NOT Walmart! I don’t want to have to start patronizing them to counter these phobic fecks.

  • Michael

So they will support religion by trampling on the pro-equality religious beliefs of businesses and individuals?

  • Jim

Who’s Bill Owens and why should anybody care?

  • Mike in NC

Is it just me, or does he look like a psychotic high school football coach?

  • gaymex

I’ve seen that moustache before, I just can’t remember where.

  • MonochromeMouse

oh I hope they choose Walmart, i would love for there to be less rednecks annoying me when I go grocery shopping
