CALIFORNIA: Gay Porn Actor Found Guilty Of Extorting Telecom Tycoon Donald Burns

Via Courthouse News Service:

A gay porn actor was found guilty Thursday of extorting and attempting to extort $1.5 million from a Florida-based business tycoon. The case ended Thursday afternoon after about two hours of deliberation, with the jury delivering a guilty verdict against defendant Teofil Brank, who performs as Jarec Wentworth, on all six of the government’s charges.

Brank, flushed and on the verge of tears, buried his head in his hands after the jurors left the courtroom. His defense attorney Seema Ahmad wept as two U.S. Marshals cuffed and chained Brank, who was dressed in a white-collared blue shirt, gray pants and black shoes. Brank’s criminal trial began on Tuesday. He was charged with extorting Florida tycoon Donald Burns.

During trial, jurors heard salacious details, including Burns’ bid to have a gay porn movie shoot on his multimillion dollar cliffside estate, lurid testimony about sex parties and Burns’ very public relationship with another former gay model and porn star. In a stunning admission, a male prostitute confirmed he was reluctant to talk to authorities because of his relationship with a “powerful” individual. “David Geffen” was the name he uttered on the second day of proceedings.

Efforts to contact Geffen – billionaire philanthropist, founder of Geffen Records and co-founder of Dreamworks SKG – or his representatives were unsuccessful. Brank was arrested in an FBI sting at a Starbucks near LAX as he tried to blackmail Burns for $1 million. By that time, Brank had already persuaded Burns to hand over his Audi R8 sports car and wire $500,000 from a Goldman Sachs account to a Wells Fargo bank account under Brank’s name.

Brank faces six to nine years in federal prison. He will be sentenced in September. (Tipped by JMG reader TJ)

  • John P.

I guess he’ll be very popular in prison.

    • bkmn

He may not be as pretty when he gets out though.

      • Silver Badger

He should have access to a good protector.

      • Joseph Miceli

I never liked pretty. Ugly-cute is more my speed.

    • Blake Jordan

      Not necessarily…
He hardly has the feminine qualities that the straight guys need to delude themselves they are fucking women.
I think they would prefer twinks…

  • loosevowels

and in six to nine years he’ll be past his use by date

    • Phil2u

He may even be used up before then…in jail!

    • Gene

oh….me suspects he will be used during that time period

  • GarySFBCN

People whose only source of income is their looks and/or their dick size often end up in a tawdry mess.

    • Gigi

      I guess I’m a success story then 😉

      • StraightGrandmother

        Stop that right now Gigi!

        ;-‘)

    • tomfromthenews

      Remember “Boogie Nights”.

  • They forgot to mention what type belt he was wearing in their fashion review.

    • Capritaur

The reporter is apparently an aspiring screenwriter.

      mattreynoldswriter.com

    • Rocco Gibraltar

My guess is the belt had a huge brass “random” logo that WWD found a titch trendy and one to look for next season.

But here is the thing that really pisses me off. The “victim” claimed to have hired this prostitute and his friends because of a personal relationship that ended. He said that was his “coping mechanism.”

There is this guy named Jim Obergefell who lost his husband to a hideously debilitating disease, ALS. And somehow he chose to channel his pain and anger to try to give us all the freedom to marry.

    • 2karmanot

“Brank, who was dressed in a white-collared blue shirt, gray pants and black shoes.” Yep, inquiring minds want to know if his dick matched his lips.

  • Gustav2

What? Rich old men pay for sex with younger partners?

    Well, I never.

    • Capritaur

I don’t judge anyone for paying for sex. Heck, I even understand if they retain the same escorts and have them on their payroll. However, why rich and powerful men would have relationships with prostitutes is beyond baffling to me. These Pretty Woman fantasies only work if you look like Richard Gere (not that he’s my type.)

      • Gustav2

It only works if you first hire them as a secretary/personal assistant in your business. lol

      • BobSF_94117

However, why rich and powerful men would have relationships with prostitutes is beyond baffling to me.

I take it you mean they should have sex a couple time at most and then move on???

      • Todd20036

Why not? Not that much different from some marriages I’ve seen.

    • Gene

      I have a rolex I didn’t buy….hell…weren’t we all 20 once?
The extortion thing is creepy and criminal, but…hardly worth all the print it has gotten.

      • GarySFBCN

We were all 20 once. Not all of us traded our bodies for stuff.

But this speaks a lot about your values – you’re the commenter who thinks the banking industry is noble, right?

        • Gene

Oh, it was not a trade. But, when dating, and one is richer than the other, gifts are given, and, no, it never dawned on me to give it back, not once. (ugly breakup). would he have given it to me had I been fat and unattractive? doubtful, to say the least. I am not naive, and was not even then.

As per banking being noble, its not that. its no ignoble. its neutral. Its an industry run by humans, who are flawed, and its necessary, as even the leftest PM of Greece who is trying so desperately to get money to keep his nations banks open will attest to. We may hate banks…but only one society on earth has none. North korea.

          • GarySFBCN

OK, a ‘gift’ is different than a reward or payment. As for banks, I see them as being totally unnecessary. But that’s for another discussion.

          • Gene

We will save that discussion for another day then :). one of my elderly cousins, a grand old dame, once told me this; “a happy marriage (and she had one I should add) is a mutual co dependency where one of the co dependents falls in love with and stays with her John for life”. cynical…but, the lady knew what she was about. no relationship was ever truly completely entered into without some consideration for the benefits…personal, mutual, and, with true love, for the other partner…but all three of those are considered..
In any case, blackmail and extortion are NOT a part of the equation, and this guy is a criminal who deserves his sentence.

          • GarySFBCN

            Interesting observation by your cousin.

          • Gene

she died old, well off, well traveled, with 5 kids who adored her at her bedside, and her late husbands name the last sound on her lips. she never gave me a bad bit of advice, and was without malice, or sentiment, when it came to men/love/money. the fist family member who clocked me as a little kid…and, the first to later let me know she did not give a damn. I miss her, and always will.

          • Tor

Next you’re going to say Wall Street is unnecessary. 😉

      • Rocco Gibraltar

Stupid me, I gave it up for a Rolodex when I was twenty.

        • pablo

When I was young I had sex with a man old enough to be my grandpa because he bought me an expensive dinner in a fancy restaurant, and I felt like I owed him. It turned out for the best though because the sex was really good.

          • TomF.

Sex with older men is always good. What they lack in attractiveness they make up for in technique.

      • BlueberriesForMe

        1. Does it still work?
        2. Do you wear it with (I hope) fond memories? ;=)

        • Gene

oh, its one of my favorite watches. Not the best, not old enough to be an antique, but, when it was given, it was truly given on one of the most romantic days of my (then) young life. He was 39, I was (just turned) 20, and the world really was full of romance, and endless opportunities and, for a time, with him, before I found the true love of my life (still with him!) less than a year later, love….so when I wear it I think of all of those things…and remember 20…which was a long time ago.

    • JT

Shocking, I say! Shocking! Round up the usual suspects.

      • Ben in Oakland

I get to interview the victims!

This whole story seems so sad for everyone…

  • Gigi

$500 000 and an Audi R8 and he still wanted more. Greedy bitch!

    • oikos

He won’t be getting paid for it in prison. He’s going to be a popular guy.

      • Dazzer

Dunno about that, he’ll probably have a massive stash of cigarettes by the end of the week.

      • Corey Wesley

LOL… I told my friends the same thing.

    • Todd20036

Some people just never know when to quit.

      • RaygunsGoZap

Just another sad case of reach exceeding grasp.

      • H

Or some people do not know when to stop harming others.

  • Mr. Enemabag Jones

It’s bad enough they steal porn work from gay men, but now the gay-for-payers are stealing whore work from gay men. This needs to stop!

    • Blake Jordan

Most of the “attractive gays / bi’s” are busy being closeted actors in the mainstream entertainment industry.

So straight guys have to fill in the gay porn industry, considering its high turnover rate…

    • Lars De

Your comment kind of reminds me of a bumper sticker I saw many years ago. It read, “Home fucking is killing prostitution”.

    • KQCA

sorry, a bit off-topic… but I think your Avatar rocks!

    • BobSF_94117

It’s been my long-standing opinion that heterosexuals are going to ruin homosexuality.

  • Failure

Send this “hot & sexy” extortionist and con artist to jail and make sure his soap gets dropped every day, morning and night. Make him the jail bitch that he deserves to be.

    • canoebum

He’s a low-life extortionist, and now convicted felon; he deserves to go to prison. But prison rape is no joke, in fact, it’s a crime, and we should be careful about making light of it. Wishing prison rape on someone isn’t much different than those yahoos using a rainbow flag for target practice. We’re better than that.

      • Joseph Miceli

Can I wish that Josh Duggar gets prison raped? I know, I know! Bad Joe.
        Still….

      • Failure

I don’t feel sorry for him in any way. He thought that he could use his pretty face, big dick and access to get way with this fraud. When he is out of prison punished and haggard, no one will look at him the same way any more

        • Chuck in NYC

So he’d better use that time wisely and study law or something while in the prison library.

    • GunnaHurt

You know… Prison rape jokes aren’t funny and ARE one of the few homophobic things it’s still socially acceptable to say. Let’s end that.

      • another_steve

I hear ya, GH, but it’s kinda complicated. As so many things in life are.

The porn industry has been known to eroticize prison rape. A whole bunch of films feature prison rape scenes.

        • Failure

I concur. Prison rape scene have been eroticized by the very industry to which this gay porn actor extortionist partakes. Stop making excuses for his behavior just because you think he is cute and sexy. There is no pity for his illegal behavior and the consequences which he may face in prison – and that is NO joke and it is not meant to be funny.

        • GunnaHurt

Well… sure. But the porn industry isn’t really where I’d look for guidance on whether a topic is OK or not. Eroticizing fantasy is one thing, joking about how rape is part of the prison system and it’s funny…. not the same thing,.

      • KQCA

GunnaHurt, just a sidebar.. here in Los Angeles I volunteer with a support group for men who have been sexually assaulted and are dealing with the serious psychological aftermath of that trauma. I am certain they would want to thank you for your comment. Being mocked is one of the major deterrents keeping men from seeking help after a sexual assault.
I think here on JMG, we’ve built such a community together we forget that these are very public conversations.

        • stuckinthewoods

You’re good to volunteer. Besides mocking, one also learns not to speak about the experience after getting a reaction as though it were an erotic fantasy.

        • GunnaHurt

Well and it’s also like straight people and gay people alike equate anal sex with humiliation and punishment. Like the worst thing in the world is getting a dick up your butt, consensually or not. Besides… most sex in prison is consensual and it isn’t nearly as common as people would have you think.

          • Failure

Wow!. You flagged my comment AND HAD IT REMOVED because I said don’t stick up for sack of shit because he has good looks. Are we learning censorship from Russia?

          • GunnaHurt

Uh…no. I didn’t flag anyone’s comment and I don’t have the power to “have it removed.” Nobody is sticking up for him, he is a criminal who deserves jail time. But jail time shouldn’t come with added sexual assault and sexual assault isn’t funny.

  • The Professor

Wait he was ASHAMED of sleeping with that dude??

  • pablo

There’s something very uncanny valley looking about that porn dude. I think there’s such a thing as too much grooming.

    • Capritaur

Many butthurts could have been avoided if Mr. Burns had just stuck with a RealDoll®.

  • Cousin Bleh

“His defense attorney Seema Ahmad wept… ”

Wait, wut? So I guess he was fucking her too.

  • crewman

I don’t understand the sympathy I sometimes read towards the porn guy. Just because someone is attractive people are willing to forgive anything. I think what he did is disgusting and obviously criminal. I’m happy he’ll be going to prison. This isn’t to say I find his victim innocent, but no one deserves to be blackmailed.

    • sherman

I agree, though I’m not really happy that he’ll be going to prison. This country has an obscene amount of people in prison, and it is costing us billions. Would rather have a different punishment, and have him return something to society rather than take.

      • Lars De

Long term community service work. Also a ten year sentence of only being allowed to get his hair cut at a mall.

    • Gene

I agree. date/have sex. give gifts, even expensive ones, of the wealthy one wants to (for whatever motivation)…but, extortion is criminal. plain and simple, and deserves little pity

    • pleasebereasonable

In this case the prostitution is pretty much a victimless crime….extortion on the other hand is pretty horrible.

The new breed of demi-mondaine haven’t a clue how to do it. The should read Katie Hickman’s Courtesans: Money, Sex and Fame in the 19th Century for some pointers. (Seriously, it a well-researched book and quite fascinating and makes some interesting points about the role of women inthe 19th century.)

  • rextrek1

geeez- I remember when I was like 20, and had sex with this older guy – 35yrs old…..35 lol….Im 54 now……anywho, he gave me 20$ a bit afterwards that we had sex – and I was like…whats this for….? I had no intention of chargi9ng him – I actually liked him — it made me feel gross and cheap that he gave me money.

    • pleasebereasonable

Prostitute! JK. Had a similar experience but the guy was much older than 35 and he gave me a gift, not cash. I think minimum wage back then was 4 & change…..would have rather had cash.

    • Arkansan

I must have been doing it wrong. The only gift I ever got took a visit to the doctor and a prescription to get rid of.

      • RaygunsGoZap

Were you ever able to make eye contact with Granpa afterward? ARKANSAS!

        Jk : ducks :

        • Arkansan

Yes, but I lost respect for my father after that. 😉

    • Oh’behr

Sorry that happened to you. I also liked older guys. Thankfully I got taken to a restaurant for a late dinner.

  • StraightGrandmother

Well hopefully with the changing culture gay men will no longer feel the need to pay hush money for having gay sex. They’ll be like, “Yeah I did that guy, so what?”

    • Ninja0980

I have to wonder in this case if it was more the stigma of paying for sex with a porn star then anything else, as it appears he was openly gay.

      • Lars De

I think it’s perfectly ethical to buy a blowjob, or whatever sexual pleasure you’d like a consenting adult to provide. What I think is terribly unethical is buying a politician but there don’t seem to be any real laws to stop that.

    • uhhuhh

Sorry, but I have next to no sympathy for the rich bastard who wants to prey on the community when it gets him off but keep it all a secret from the public.

      • Chucktech

I try not to judge until I walk a mile in their shoes, but I definitely have no sympathy for this extortionist.

      • BobSF_94117

Indeed, we rip apart the dimwitted fellows from NY and this guy nobody even talks about.

    • BobSF_94117

I think the problem in his business/social circle is related to, “Yeah, that guy did me, so what?”.

  • Traxley Launderette

Lurid, sordid, salacious. It sells eyeballs.

Anyone want to bet that this “journalist” is now busily writing a screenplay to present to a friend of a friend who know somebody at a major studio? In his mind he’s probably cast Christopher Meloni as the victim, and Henry Cavill as the defendant.

  • another_steve

Am I the only person here who feels it’s tremendously naive to enter into a pay-for-sex arrangement like this and subsequently be surprised — ever so surprised — when criminal intent enters the picture?

I mean, really. This is Planet Earth, yes?

Is there no such thing as personal responsibility for one’s decisions anymore?

  • BobSF_94117

Well, this way all the bankers in prison will have a new toy. Oh, wait, there are no bankers in prison…

    • rextrek1

      good one

  • Ben in Oakland

I feel sorry for the boy. And for the record, he’s not my type. But he should know that extortion is extortion. On the other hand, the victims name has been dragged through the mud, but he was the one out in the dirt lot with a firehose.

I frankly don’t much care for either of them.

  • Harley

At least it’s federal prison and not state prison. Federal is a country club compared to state

    • Oh’behr

Does it depend on which state?

  • Rick

None of this would have happened if whoring were legal and unionized.

  • meonthissite

Well extortion is wrong that’s true but how many of you here understand that the poor are being extorted by the rich like the guy who did the prosecution? How do you think he was able to afford the R8 in the first place? By exploiting tax payers. You no longer get rich by working hard or inventing something essential in this economy you now get rich by knowing the right people, exploiting the working poor, or taking tax money “donations” from the government. I don’t advocate for this guy for extorting but at the same time the rich guy isn’t so innocent.

there’s also this…letter from jail explaining the situation that really happened. How many of you can honestly say that you don’t believe that a rich person who’s well connected could easily pin blackmail on someone to try to hide the truth? Especially knowing how corrupt our criminal justice system works in this country?

I don’t understand that if he were out, how he could be blackmailed. If I had this guy’s money porn actor Adam Russo could have a garage full of Audis and he couldn’t blackmail me because the clips would be posted on xtube.

    • BobSF_94117

In his social circle, perhaps a more discreet class of prostitute is expected.

    He was cuffed and CHAINED?

    Why??

6 to 9 years in federal prison?

Meanwhile, NO time in prison for the BANKSTERS, no indictments, no trials . . . no, bonuses from taxpayer funds, instead. (And a new budget that will require us to bail them out AGAIN if their corruption triggers another MELTDOWN!)

No action against or punishments for the GOP Senate TRAITORS who interfered with the President’s treaty efforts in Iran.

None, either, for the GOP leadership who shut down government in October 2013 in THEIR fucking attempt at EXTORTION.

You should have been a hedge-fund operator, or a GOP politician, Mr. Brank.
