Huckabee Doubles Down

Mike Huckabee has followed up his vow to prosecute the enforcement of public accommodation laws as a hate crime with the above image on his Facebook page. He has also published an op-ed for Fox News:

On Day One of my administration, I will use the power of the presidency to protect and defend people of all faiths in all fifty states. First, I will sign religious liberty executive orders that support traditional marriage and protect businesses, churches, non-profits, schools and universities, hospitals, and other organizations from discrimination, intimidation, civil penalties, or criminal attacks for exercising their religious beliefs. Second, I will direct the attorney general to protect religious liberty and prosecute any violations of First Amendment rights of individuals, businesses, religious organizations, institutions, and civil servants, including those who believe in traditional marriage. The Justice Department will protect and defend the rights of American citizens to follow their religious convictions without discrimination, and prosecute attacks on people of faith and their religious liberty. I will aggressively prosecute attacks against people of faith as hate crimes.

Yeah, good luck with that.

  • John B.

Yeah, because expecting somebody to take a photo, or bake a cake, as they would for ANYBODY ELSE who walked through their doors is a hate crime. Just like expecting to be seated at the lunch counter. Just like expecting to sit at the front of the bus. Just like expecting to use the local public swimming pool. So much hate, so little time.

    • John B.

BTW my partner (now husband!) and I were turned away from a motel–where we had reservations!–in the middle of the night, in the middle of nowhere, in upstate NY about 30 years ago. They said they couldn’t allow two men to share a bed. We had to drive around an unfamiliar area in the middle of the night looking for a place that would accommodate us. When the boo-hoo-hoo oh-so-put-upon christians go through this, then they can start crying about “hate crimes”.

      • Chucktech

Problem is, of course, the boo-hoo-hoo oh-so-put-upon christians will never have to go through this.

    • Wynter Marie Starr

It goes beyond not being able to get a cake. Look at the statement again. He’s willing to rearrange the whole government to discriminate against you. And hospitals. And schools. If he has his way, he’ll make it so the LGBT community can’t buy food or anything else essential. In my opinion, he’s just said that he’s willing to exterminate and commit genocide against gay Americans.

      • Bj Lincoln

He does directly target us and the wedding industry in his statement yesterday but he is now including all faiths in every kind and type of businesses. He is calling for full disregard of anti-discrimination laws covering everyone in this statement. How inclusive of him.

        • Wynter Marie Starr

“I will sign religious liberty executive orders that support traditional marriage and protect businesses, churches, non-profits, schools and universities, hospitals, and other organizations from discrimination, intimidation, civil penalties, or criminal attacks for exercising their religious beliefs.

Second, I will direct the attorney general to protect religious liberty and prosecute any violations of First Amendment rights of individuals, businesses, religious organizations, institutions, and civil servants, including those who believe in traditional marriage.”

The above sentences say to me he is calling for a jihad/genocide against the LGBT community.

          • Gest2016

Huckbee and Hitler both start with an “H”.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

He’s a monster, plain and simple. I’d be afraid to let him in my house. (I have kids and animals, neither of which he cares about.)

          • canoebum

In your house? Hell, I don’t want him in my state!

          • Wynter Marie Starr

I’m not happy he’s on the planet, but until we have a working Stargate, we’re stuck with him as I doubt any other country wants him either. (And, I’d love to ban this monster from my state as well.)

          • IamM

No. Huckabee and Hitler both start with hate.

          • PeterC

            So does Hillary!

          • Chucktech

Rest assured,he’ll never have the opportunity to implement any of his delusional, god-infused plan.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

I totally agree, Chuck. I still find this mindset dangerous for all of us. It can so easily morph into something very bad.

          • RoFaWh

Don’t be so sure. That’s what a lot of Germans said about Hitler too.

“Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty”

          • BudClark

God, if there is one, doesn’t think that way, unless his name is Baal.

      • clay

He believes that Paul requires complete economic segregation of non-believers. He believes anyone who is out is a non-believer. He believes anyone who doesn’t fit into his (Western) gender bifurcation is a queer non-believer.

Straight guys wearing dashikis, you’re out of business.

Oddly, John of Patmos said that the antichrist are those who seek to control the economy to drive out Christians, not by requiring they buy and sell, but not allowing them to, like he wants to not allow us to.

        • Wynter Marie Starr

Honestly? I could not in good faith (LOL) patronize a store that would not do business with a particular group of people. I know much more about the Catholic religion than I do about his, even though I have one of his type in my family. I never listened to her nonsense and by the time I was 15, I’d had a bellyful of religion due to her and knew it was all mythology. Now I also understand it’s a social construct, but I wasn’t as educated at 15.

Is economic segregation a part of their belief system? I’m not gay, but I am a non believer, so I guess he’d like to exterminate my kind as well. (Straight ally, liberal feminist atheist.)

I’ve always bought people like this are dangerous. Nothing over the years has changed my mind.

          • clay

Yes, he combines Paul’s letter to the Church in Rome and John of Patmos’ Revelation to say there can be NO economic exchange with non-Christians.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

Wow, I didn’t know that. Thanks for teaching me something today. Even in the Hasid neighborhoods in NY or Amish stores, they will do business with outsiders. I’ve also been to Muslim stores that have never had a problem serving me.

These people are using morality of a time and place that no longer exists. They just don’t realize that culture evolves. They may be stung in their faith, but they are weak in modern day morals.

          • RoFaWh

The time and place Huckabee so yearns for never existed. Except maybe in a 1950s TV sitcom.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

            Point!

        • Bill_Perdue

These right wing christers are lunatics, right?

Through all of her years in Washington, Clinton has been an active participant in conservative Bible study and prayer circles that are part of a secretive Capitol Hill group known as the Fellowship. Her collaborations with right-wingers such as Senator Sam Brownback (R-Kan.) and former Senator Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) grow in part from that connection. ” … Clinton’s prayer group was part of the Fellowship (or “the Family”) … The Fellowship believes that the elite win power by the will of God, who uses them for his purposes. Its mission is to help the powerful understand their role in God’s plan. …With Santorum, Clinton co-sponsored the Workplace Religious Freedom Act… http://www.motherjones.com/politics/2007/09/hillarys-prayer-hillary-clintons-religion-and-politics?page=3

          • BudClark

She MIGHT be spying on them (grin).

      • grada3784

By having his name/number tattooed on straight people’s forehead or on their right hands?

        • Wynter Marie Starr

Based on history, it will the “undesirables” who are tatted.

          • grada3784

I was basing it on the terroristic Book of Revelation, not history.

          • Wynter Marie Starr

LOL, I tend to deal in realities rather than mythology. At least while analyzing political statements, even those that are made based upon personal mythology. But, good point and one I hadn’t considered.

    • BobSF_94117

Just like expecting to be seated at the lunch counter.

Hence the phrase “armed with an appetite”.

While gay people don’t have such a book, there is a group that does: they are called “muslims” and their holy book is the Quran.

And certain groups among them use their religion and their holy book to justify their heinous murders, much like christianists do.

      Interesting. So very interesting.

      • Henry Horton

And another group called “Christians” and their book is called the Bible!

      • MBear

“If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth
with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to
death. Their blood shall be upon them.” – Leviticus 20:13

from that book that christians hang on to
        just an FYI

        • Bill

I just finished “what I believe to be a rather wonderful book” “Shantaram by Gregory Roberts. It’s over 900 pages, and for me, a page turner. The “thing” about this particular book is about a “mans thoughts and interpretations” during his stay in India,
There are many ways to say “fuck off”,
and many levels to each of our growth and understanding and interpretations of both good and evil.
Due to the volume of the book, I basically just read it. Certain sentences and passages I definitely re-read. I’ll give it another 2 years of so to re-read it for not I understand the “basic” subject and outcome. But I know I missed allot.
Again Happy 4 and Congratulations to us all, for YES the Constitution IS A LIVING PIECE OF PAPER.

        • Steverino

Well, I have never liethed with a woman, nor will I ever, so I haven’t the foggiest notion of what it would be to lieth with my husband as I would(n’t) lieth with a woman. It maketh no sense.

But I have never expected the christers to “get” this.

          • MBear

as I like to say it, “Oh hunney, when I ‘lieth’ with a man it sure as HELL isn’t how I’d ‘lieth’ with a woman”

          • Eric in Oakland

Yeah. It really reads more like forbidding bisexual behaviour than gay. But even that isn’t clear.

          • Steverino

Or, simply a prohibition on men who are otherwise heterosexual, from boinking or raping other men. Kind of like what goes on in prisons, in modern times. Applying this passage to men who are naturally gay makes no sense whatsoever, either logically or morally. And if this was meant to be a total ban on male homosexuality, it simply would read “you shall not lie with another man.” Period. The meaning would be clear. But it’s the qualifier “as with a woman” that makes all the difference.

It isn’t for nothing that the christers insist that we are natural heterosexuals who chose to be this way, but nothing they say or believe about us is factual, or makes any sense.

          • Eric in Oakland

The same is even more true of the Pauline quotes in the New Testament. He makes it very clear that the reason it is wrong is because it is against the nature of the men and women he is condemning. That is true of prison type rape but hardly the case with gays and lesbians.

        • Jafafa Hots

Mike Huckleberry lieth with his mouth.

          • Craig Howell

            Yeth!

        • BudClark

That doesn’t even come CLOSE to being a correct translation. We don’t know what the original text means, but scholars THINK it has something to do with men sleeping in a woman’s bed linens while she’s menstruating.

In 1st Samuel, it’s pretty clear that David butt-fucked the stuffing out of Jonathan. The business about removing his armor = surrendering his ass … that would be VERY clear to ANY military historian in the ancient world. The DIFFERENCE, and probably why Samuel included it, is that it was done in LOVE, rather than to degrade and punish. It was the Germanic barbarian tribes from the North who introduced THAT custom. They considered it the ultimate emasculation to be butt-fucked … hence they butt-raped all their surviving male captives.

          {edit: add the following}

Jesus was well-aware that the centurion and his “pais” were lovers. The fact that the centurion (a Roman officer) loved his boy enough to plead for his life from an itinerant Jewish rabbi is (again) probably why the story was included. The point wasn’t same-sex fucking, but the love between the centurion and his pais, and the centurion’s faith.

          • MBear

blah blah blah – the bible is the #1 selling book in the world and I’ll hazard a guess that most have some variation of that ‘incorrect translation’.

I really don’t care what the correct translation is because I have no need for bronze age fairy tales and I maintain that no one of import really gives a marmoset’s sphincter outside of historical WTF’ery, but the fact remains: most bibles printed state that I need to die and for every one who carries one of those…well, my deeply held religious belief states that each and every one of them can fuck right the hell off.

            Thanks for playing.
            have a nice day. 🙂

      • Bill

Well, I believe the Quran was written first, followed by the Jewish Torah, followed by the Catholic Bible. The Catholic Bible by others versions. -Calvinist, Protestants, Mormon and the list goes on.
All were written by generally men, “of faith”, and then interpreted in their faiths, to fit into their “puzzles of thought”.
So actually, it rather interesting, if one does follow the dots. Several and many of the prays (?) are sometimes “rather similar”.
But I’ll stick to the “Blue Skies Above” for my personal comfort.
        Have a GREAT HOLIDAY.

If anyone, gay or not, physically assaults someone because they are Christian or in order to prevent them from attending church or doing some other explicitly religious thing, then yes, Mike, that might well be a hate crime, and if it is, it should be treated as one. Nobody has ever pretended that existing hate crimes legislation doesn’t cover Christians.

However, asking to be treated equally by someone who doesn’t want to is not an assault, and mocking someone for wanting to have their religious views trample other people’s rights is not that kind of attack, and cannot and should not ever be treated as criminal.

It’s not the views that are the issue. A baker who sells a gay couple a wedding cake while stating that they don’t approve of gay people or gay weddings may deservedly lose customers, but that’s not a crime. Refusing to sell them the cake if it’s a cake they’d sell anyone else might be.

And it’s not “support for traditional marriage” that’s the issue, and you know it. It’s using that support to deprive others you feel are non-traditional from exercising THEIR equal rights. Your right to feel superior doesn’t trump someone else’s right to be equal under the law.

    • Chucktech

      Seems so elementary, doesn’t it?

  • nycmcmike

Sorry but whenever I hear about Huckabee all I can imagine is a dead dog strung up to a tree.

    • sherman

Cooking squirrel in a popcorn popper for me.

  • Baltimatt

Do you realize some people of faith support same-sex marriage in addition to traditional marriage? Will you support them as well?

    • Sam_Handwich

he can’t admit that. the facts undermine his entirely polarized narrative

      • Baltimatt

I wonder if “people of all faiths” includes Muslims.

        • Sam_Handwich
        • Chucktech

          CERtainly not!

        • IamM

          Ha!
For him it doesn’t even include Christians who think homosexuality is a sin, but don’t support government discrimination.

He has the same position on religious freedom as al Qaeda or IS terrorists, i.e. everyone is free to live, speak, & worship as he dictates they should.

  • Bj Lincoln

I just left this on his Facebook…

“Religious liberty” is code for ‘I want to continue to impose my religion on others and discriminate against those icky queers’. My civil marriage has nothing to do with you or your beliefs. If you open your business to the public, you must serve ALL the public. If you use public funds, you must serve ALL the public. I am a taxpaying American who has fought hard to be treated equally in my own country just because of the gender of my mate. I don’t care what people believe but leave it out of the public sphere. The idea of canceling all anti-discrimination laws would create total chaos. Keep in mind it would also mean christians would be discriminated against too.

    • Lakeview Bob

      Good work BJ.

      • Bj Lincoln

        Thank you.

        • GayOldLady

Extremely well stated. Let us know about the responses.

Nothing yet but I’ll let y’all know.

          • D. J.

            I knew I shouldn’t, but I took a look myself.
I found a nest of Huckabee/Palin 2016-ers, so I left this for them to stew on:
I hear Bristol IS available. Huckabee/Palin 2016 sounds like a plan. Knock yourselves out.
That ought to help them find their inner freak out threshold.

          • Bj Lincoln

Awesome! That would be some pair to point and laugh at for sure! Thanks.

          • Robincho

About 1 in 10 are fans of his spewing the same flag waving bible thumping BS. The rest are very similar to mine above! Some were not as nice but not threatening. Some were very smart and a few were long with info. At least under that red BS sign.

    • Traxley Launderette

So, I see you’ve lived in suburban west Michigan.

    • sherman

I went over there and spent far too long reading the delusional comments. That ilk really is the most selfish hateful group in the country. While most of them were espousing how much they love America but hate the president, the government, and millions of people in America, this one stood out for proudly proclaiming not to be proud of the country:

I’m NOT proud to be an American! God’s CURSE Is on America! I’m ASHAMED of my country and my government! I stopped reciting the pledge of allegiance to our government’s flag a few years ago because that pledge pledges “allegiance” to “the Republic for which it stands”. That Republic is now a corrupt, God-less, anti-Christian, pro-perversion, baby-killing government that no longer represents me or my values. Our government has stripped God from our public schools, condones & finances Planned Parenthood abortions at home and abroad, it persecutes Christians in our military forces and persecutes Christian business owners, and now it equates homosexual lust with “the holy state of matrimony”. I’m ashamed of the Communists, Socialists, homosexuals, baby killers and atheists of the Democrat Party who elected this government! I want to see our government changed to a parliamentary form of government more representative of the people. If we already had a parliamentary government, Obama would have been ousted over a year ago on a vote of NO CONFIDENCE!! I support full secession of the Red States from the Blue States in order to establish the Christian Democracy that our founders intended. Let us cut the Blue States loose before they drag us all down!!! Thomas Jefferson said: “We hold these truths to be self-evident … That whenever any form of government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the right of the people to abolish it, and to institute new government …”. … {:o/

Christian Democracy? An oxymoron if ever I heard one. He/she doesn’t
believe in democracy. He/she believes in a theocracy, but only if it is in line with his/her beliefs. As soon as this “christian democracy” voted on something against this
individual’s beliefs, he/she would be raging against it.

      • Gerry Fisher

Interesting little tidbit in there: Because the government doesn’t enforce this person’s values through law, then it’s interpreted as “the country doesn’t support my values.” It’s social and legal dominance, or nothing. How…primitive. And insecure.

        • amati1684

Read Umberto Eco’s essay on fascism; it’s scary how closely it aligns with the likes of our own hucksters.

          • Cattleya1

It would take a lot more black cloth to make an SS uniform for the Huck than it did for Der Fürher… I think those round-lensed glasses would really make Cruz the hit of the season. The Donald could change his name back to ‘Drumpf’.

        • KQCA

You said it perfectly, “Primitive and insecure.” Describes them and their unfounded beliefs perfectly.

      • D. J.

Wow Sherman, you found a live wired one, didn’t you?
They want a Parliament? Either go buy a pack and smoke them or…
Consider a move to England and a host of other countries, most of which have Marriage Equality, healthcare for all and pretty much everything else they are bitching about. Oh they won’t be finding much in the way of public school prayer in those countries.
The US civil war didn’t work out all that well for those who were using their Bibles to promote indefensible policy matters.
You don’t even need to have the red states leave the union or move abroad….head to Kansas and tell me how that works out for you in five years.
Brownback is your friend, unknown idiot.

        • marshlc

That parliamentary bit took me aback, too. It might just be coincidence, but most parliamentary democracies are more liberal than the US.

  • GayOldLady

Wow, he really has his pants all in a wad over gay marriage, doesn’t he? I can’t wait to hear him take that bullshit onto a debate stage and attempt to portray what is clearly homophobia and bigotry as religious freedom. If I wasn’t already convinced that Mike Huckabee will never be POTUS, I’m totally convinced now. BRING IT ON, Mike!!!!

    • MBear

I’m looking forward to an interview or debate where he goes fully unhinged!

      • GayOldLady

Ha! That would be amusing, wouldn’t it? Fuckabee’s own little “Oops” moment!

    • sw42

I don’t think Mike wants to be president. He just wants money. These guys, most of them know they’re not going to win, they just want to be a hate version of PT Barnum because they know someone else will pay for them to yell into a microphone in other places after the election.

      • GayOldLady

Yeah, he definitely has that Johnny Manziel, show me the money, thing going on.

      • JustSayin’

The GOP uses morons like huckster and Cruz etal as parakeets. Instead of suffocating in a mine shaft, they let them run until they implode in the media, then the gop knows how far off the rails their anointed candidate can go before too many republicans run from him.

        • sw42

Which is a FABulous strategy during the primaries, but they forget that in the main election the rest of us have access to youtube and can see that time on the stump a few months when they called for death camps for non-virgins.

          • clay

Even in the ’90s, it ruined Dole’s chances against Clinton.

    • TampaDink

He may not even qualify for the first debate…since fox noise has limited it to the top 10 idiots leading in the polling of lesser known idiots.

      • clay

I sincerely hope that at least two of Huckleberry, Santorum, Cruz, and Jindal make the stage, and spend the whole time trying to out-conservative the others.

      • GayOldLady

“idiots” is spot on. I watched all of their debates last time and I’ve never seen so much self immolation in all my life and particularly not on a debate stage. They get on a stage, pump their venom out onto the National audience and America goes, Ewwwwww!

        • TampaDink

Between those audience shouts of “let him die!” and the booing at a gay serviceman who was deployed, their hatefulness & ignorance were certainly highlighted in 2012. I bet that they can up their game this go round.

          • zhera

Let him die? What was that?

          • Chucktech

As I recall, from a Repub debate in 2012 on someone with no health care suddenly getting terminally ill. What should happen to this person? The audience responded with “Let him die!”

          • disQusTed
          • TampaDink

That comment from the angry mob of mouth breathers (those in attendance of that particular hate rally/presidential debate) when a question was raised about how to handle someone with no health insurance, who comes down with cancer.

          • GayOldLady

I agree! I found myself literally gasping at some of their comments. And if anyone/group is capable of outdoing themselves in the hatred category, it’s the GOP. It’s going to be fun to watch.

          • IamM

True. Even McCain had his “No, Ma’am. I don’t believe Obama is a Muslim.” moment of trace integrity when he ran. Not last time though.

          • Chucktech

What shocked me was that NOT ONE of the candidates said ANYthing in response to the booing of an American soldier, currently in harm’s way when he was asking the question regarding his rights as a gay soldier.

If I had been one of the moderators, I don’t think I could have just sat there and said nothing. “Excuse me, did we just BOO an American Soldier currently serving his country??”

          • TampaDink

This is why you’d be a much better moderator than I. My reaction was and would have been, had I been the moderator, “what the fuck is wrong with you people?”

          • Chucktech

Actually, if it’s the job of the moderator to simply dole out questions and enforce a time clock for responses, I’d make a shitty moderator. I just couldn’t have let that soldier booing go by without some sign of indignation. Apparently, moderators are not supposed to be school marm scolds, which is exactly what that display of hate and ignorance required.

          • TampaDink

You are right, of course, moderators are never supposed to get caught up in the fray. Too bad that none of the candidates had the intestinal fortitude to step up & speak out against the audience opting to disrespect a deployed member of the armed forces.

          • Chucktech

Step up & speak out against the audience?? And lose the election??? They’d be the bane of American Christendom.

    • RoFaWh

He’s another one whose vehemence about marriage equality makes you wonder about his motivation.

      • GayOldLady

I know!!!! He’s basically hysterical over the decision by SCOTUS, so much so the only way to describe it is, phobia! He’s homophobic!!! Plus he equates gay marriage with all these other non-relatable issues like bestiality. Maybe he’s afraid his son the dog killer will start crusading to marry the family pooch.

    • Nexus1

He’s not pretty enough as a starter, our politics are a bit of a beauty contest anyway. But he had no shot after he defended child molestation. This is just the rainbow sprinkles on top of the double banana, cherry topped sundae that is his unelectability.

    • Bill_Perdue

He has lots of friends. Anyone who thinks that Democrats and Republicans are not joined at the hip is delusional.

Bill Clinton is a Republican “No LGBT equality: Defense of Marriage Act. The Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA) was one of conservatives’ biggest victories in the 1990s. Passed by Congress and signed into law by Clinton in 1996, the bill defined spouse as “heterosexual” and deprived legally wed same-sex couples of many significant benefits, from Social Security benefits to hospital visitation rights. It allowed states to refuse legal recognition of couples married in other states. Alternet

PBS Newshour Friday night had an interview with Joseph Ellis about his book “The Quartet: Orchestrating the Second American Revolution, 1783-1789.” His interest in this period is that post-war, history was heading toward the Europeanization of North America. The United States of America wasn’t so evident.

From the transcript: “Then we came together provisionally and temporarily to win the war, although about a third of the people were loyalists and/or indifferent. But once the war was over, history’s headed towards a dissolution of the United States as a coherent whole.”

“The Constitution only provides a framework in which the argument can keep going on. But the deeper issue of state vs. federal sovereignty is still with us.”

I’ll skip over this whopper! “It turns out we’re going to get the British Empire North America.” http://www.pbs.org/newshour/bb/quartet-patriots-brought-united-states-together/

    • IamM

Yes. Obama exercising his legal discretion (usually in the face of the Republicans blocking any legislative direction), is tyranny. But Republiscum pandering to ignorance, bigotry, and special interests is patriotism.

You can tell how worried they are about executive tyranny by the complete lack of action to reign in mass domestic surveillance, limit the President’s war powers, or you know pass some relevant legislation about immigration, health care, or anything at all. I mean if you’re afraid the President is going to stage a coup, you wouldn’t let him keep the power to declare anyone an enemy combatant and have them assassinated by drone.

You don’t have a snowballs chance in HELL in getting to be President of your local Chamber of Commerce let alone President of the U.S. Religious faith has absolutely nothing to do with politics or politicians other than Republican sucking up for votes. You are just another pandering whore. Yooo-hooo, hey Sailor …me love you long time !

Years before the gay rights movement gained momentum, an openly gay black activist named Bayard Rustin advised Martin Luther King Jr. on nonviolent protest tactics and organized the 1963 March on Washington. But attacks on Rustin’s sexual orientation threatened his role in the civil rights movement.

Rustin died in 1987 at age 75 after decades as an activist and organizer on issues including peace, racial equality, labor rights and gay rights. He will be remembered for support for LGBT rights during the National LGBT 50th Anniversary Celebration Thursday to Sunday (July 2-5) in Philadelphia. The four-day event recalls gay rights activists who demonstrated for equal rights at Independence Hall on the Fourth of July from 1965 to 1969.

    Thank you, Bayard!

I’ll rely on my very fallible memory of the doc: the March on Washington was pivotal to MLK’s entire campaign. They feared that nobody would show up for the rally. It was Rustin’s skill organizing the volunteer team which won the day by matching buses and people and delivering the 250,000 supporters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/March_on_Washington_for_Jobs_and_Freedom#Planning_and_organization

      • NowAnAgnostic

        Your memory is correct.

Legally there can’t be a religious test for public office.
But the constitution doesn’t say anything about not requiring a psychiatric examination… which in Huckleberry’s case would accomplish the same thing.

  • Steverino

Boy, these christianists are sure good about co-opting something good (the civil rights movement) and then projecting it back upon the beneficiaries of that movement (LGBT people) for the evil purpose of nullifying the progress of the movement.

Let’s face it: they are just a bowel movement.

And so much for that presidential oath to preserve, protect, and defend the constitution of the United States.

What I find hilarious is that idiots like the ‘no gays allowed’ hardware store owner have been serving gay people for years/decades…so, if it’s such a sin, they’re already going to burn in hell for eternity…so why suddenly refuse to sell to us now? Grab the money while you can!

The world they think they live in is crumbling around them. They crave certainty and stability, but the world is an uncertain place and is constantly changing. It’s the fundamental nature of the universe.
They are terrified of what they don’t understand and they will deny reality and cling to any charlatan that reassures them of the certainty of their perceived truth and righteousness.

I would pity them, but I’d rather have another cup of coffee.

    • RoFaWh

I notice the care with which which you phrased that: “…the world they think they live in…”

I remain convinced that the whole anti-progress, let’s turn the clock back to 1950 movement is an example of Tofflerian future shock.

Perhaps if Microsoft stopped the ceaseless software churn they call “Windows”, the hate level would drop a bit?

They have been deliberately raised – from birth – to be helpless: unable to think for themselves and fearful of thought itself, since they’ve been told that not only is sin bad, but even THINKING about a sin is equally bad. This is one reason that so many of them are unable to evolve on LGBT issues.

Huckabee has become Palin. No chance to win, so no need to filter anything he says. He can say the most ridiculous, most outrageous things, and then double down, and double down again without fear that it diminishes his chances. In fact, he is now branding himself for a lucrative career as a right-wing crackpot celebrity of sorts, who will appeal to the slowly diminishing dead-enders among the fundagelicals. They are the only ones left who are gullible enough to relate to anything he says, and the only ones stupid enough to support him financially.

Kind of revealing that a fraud like Huckabee have learned to substitute one fraud (a political ‘career’) for another (an evangelical career). I suppose it’s not new, but he seems to be able to ride the rail joining the two more adeptly than any candidate I can think of.

If his ‘god’ were real, I would pray that Huckabee be struck down for blasphemy. I would appeal to the leadership of his denomination to condemn him. And I would encourage his sheep-like followers to turn away from him.

But alas, I know that Huckabee sells a fake product. Huckabee knows this too. The only ones who cannot admit this are the poor, ignorant, desperate, deluded fools who believe in the fake product he sells.

May they die sooner, faster, and in greater numbers so that society can evolve.

  • tcinsf

He lost me on “day one of my administration.”

It’s always the Republicans who think the President can do whatever he wants, regardless of the standing laws of the nation and the Constitution. Mike, we’re not even electing you as President, much less Dictator for Jesus. With the current crop of GOP miscreants, malcontents and megalomaniacs, the question is not which one is qualified to be President, clearly none are, but rather which one is the most unqualified for any public office. By that measure, Huckabee must score near the top.

  • Claude Jacques Bonhomme

That image on his Facebook page is from June 30… I’m sure he has evolved since then… not! 😬

Is it legal to free carry elephant tranquilizers in US? Will I be doing the country service by sedating this out of control excuse of a human in the name of peace keeping? I would gladly hand him over to CDC for observation. To check his brain for any sign of contagious infection.

    • Chucktech

Yeah, but if you got caught doing that, it would turn into a big legal hassle for you with lots of bothersome paperwork to fill out…

Yep. Huckabee’s idea of religious liberty is that he can deny anyone else’s.

      • IamM

I mean seriously. Schools, universities, and hospitals deciding for themselves who is or isn’t married? Public employees choosing arbitrarily whether they’ll do their jobs for this or that taxpaying citizen? Public accommodations free to exclude any race or religion in the name of Jesus?

What’s Notre Dame’s policy regarding students, parents, faculty, and staff who have divorced or married outside the faith?

This type of crap so pisses me off. When my conservative evangelical family was going off how they are being tormented, I looked at them and asked how many of them have been followed to their car after church by a group of people intending on doing harm cause of who they are. I then asked how many of them have received death threats on their car and have the police discount it as “a silly lover’s spat.” Or faced the wrong end of a gun outside a charity benefit…. When they all looked at me with a dazed look, I said, “Yes, all have happened to me. Walking out of a nightclub and being followed. Finding a note under my windshield wiper and having a gun pointed at me after an HIV support benefit.” The room went quiet.

    • IamM

Don’t be silly. Murdering fags is just Christian Love™, imaginary harassment of Christianists is a national emergency. You can’t compare the two. /he said with venomous sarcasm😏. ☕️🐸 😘

  • SFBruce

This is just breathtakingly stupid. Apart from Huckabee’s hypocrisy on hate crimes (he was against them before he was for them), in order to take Huckabee even remotely seriously, you have to believe the expectation that merchants and business owners should abide by non-discrimination laws is the same as firing up a cross in an African-American neighbor, or a group of men targeting and murdering gay men for sport. Huckabee’s stance makes the Republican who merely wants to keep sexual orientation out of non-discrimination laws and/or hate crime laws almost reasonable. This guy is certifiable.

    • Kissmagrits

I’m astonished how the 1988 presidential campaign of Pat Robertson seems almost reasonable when compared to the paranoid ravings of this asshat. The passing of twenty five years has not improved political discourse.

It is easy to spout bullshit about what you will do when you become president when you know you will NEVER be president.

This statement of his is a declaration of his intention to turn the U.S. into a fascist state.

What he is advocating is outright fascism.

Nothing would EVER make that acceptable–NOTHING!

We would have every right to do whatever was necessary to STOP HIM and those like him from bringing about what they want.

It would be–IS–our moral DUTY to stop them, for they would turn this country into a PRISON for MILLIONS.
