Kennedy on equality : Their plea is that they do respect marriage, ‘respect it so deeply that they seek to find its fulfillment for themselves.’ These couples are committed in love to each other. That is why we won.

    • parachihuahua

And they will have the same legal rights in divorce! That’s what equality means. Marry, have combined assets, raise children, retirement, divorce, inheritance… There’s a whole bunch of legal complexities that are taken for granted by people who never had access and YEA FOR HAVING ACCESS TO THE ENTIRETY OF A MESSY LEGAL LIFE!!!

      • People4Humanity

        You forgot, “Hahaha!”

        • parachihuahua

          And Taxes, hahaha!

    • JCF

Now if we can just get more gay men to take devoted relationships seriously, including respecting the devoted relationships of others. That’ll be step 2 for us.

    • bkmn

That is an issue that is not limited to the LGBT community.

    • Octavio

You live in a world where gay men don’t take devoted relationships seriously or respect those of others? I find that rather hard to believe. Maybe the problem is you? Could it be possible that you tend to attract nothing but assholes?

How sad you can’t enjoy and celebrate how wonderful today is for all of us. Very sad.

  • bkmn

It has been a very long road for these two brave women. So glad it ended the right way.

    • John30013

We owe these women so much. Their case in Michigan was the one that put the stake through the heart of the abominable Regnerus “study” (at least insofar as it could be used to support anti-same-sex marriage equality in court).

  • oikos

Tears again today. What a day!

  • Megrim Twist

omg, more tissues …. need more tissues …..

In the background you can see a sign “Jim Toy.” He was the first gay man hired by the University of Michigan to help the LGBT community.

    • JCF

…AND a righteous gay Episcopalian who helped move the (Episcopal) Diocese of Michigan MIGHTILY in an LGBT-affirming way! I knew him at the “OASIS” LGBT ministry (Ann Arbor) when I lived in Michigan.

  • Congratulations, Ladies!!! Thank you for the fight you fought for yourselves, your family, and for all of us — for all the United States.

  • Paul

Just imagine how Obergefell reacted when the news came!

  • Queequeg

I couldn’t hear the video well, but the emotions came through loud and clear. Congratulations to them, and all of us.
