      • sherman

You should have planned ahead and had his name legally changed. 🙂 You could have been all over the news, like the woman named Dot Com back in the 90s.

    • BaddogLtd

Bah hah! My first boyfriend’s name was Adam and mine is Steve. I never thought I’d see the day!

    You may now scissor!!!

The sexual side of marriage is nothing more than a mere incident. An important incident, one that cements the relationship, but not the Prime Cause, which is unbounded love and affection.

How very strange that the haters dwell on the sexual side of marriage and very little else.

  • Baltimatt

Wikipedia marriage map has all the states except Louisiana, Mississippi, and Kansas sapphire. Some of the territories are still salmon.

  • Lumpy Gaga

And when the first surge of marriages is over and the dust settles a bit, all those unsure straights will look around, go ‘meh’, and get on with their lives.

  • Lumpy Gaga

  • Gene

    I am about 5 miles away from this…crying like a child…this is..wonderful.
I thought this would happen in GA. I thought it would. I thought I would be 85 and old and bent and gray, telling some young couple in their 20’s about my late partner.
now, in GA,,,he is my husband. and…in Decatur, and Atlanta..and GWINNET!!!!, gay couples are getting married.
my husband is weak and tired to day…I was just laying with him in our bed. before I got up to go to our library, he watched some of this, and…WEPT…and said again, “THIS…you…this…us, is why I came to America.”
this so many ways…the best day of my life

    • Gene

ps…for all the bigots who said “blacks fucked us in California” please note the happy African American judges marrying the white gay men…thank you.

      • Gerry Fisher

Black women put us over the top here in Baltimore in 2012. 🙂

        • Corey

Black men like me put us way over the top in Montgomery County, Maryland in 2012

    • Adam Schmidt

I couldn’t be happier for you and your husband, Gene. Congratulations doesn’t seem enough but I offer it to you with all my heart.

      • Gene

        it means so much.
we really should meet sometime…we are just across town..and, I meant what I wrote earlier about being happy to help with our wedding in any way I could.
I wish the two of you the joy we have had. From the words I have seen you write over the years (yes, its years! lol…this IS a community, isn’t it…an no group I would rather celebrate this with than you people) you seem like someone whom I should be very happy to meet.
All my best and my congrats to you two! And, my thanks for your kind words!
        I am in GA
        I am gay
        I am married
        I am….happy.

        • Gene

ps…make him change his name to Steve, cause, like, that would just be fucking cool 😉
          (joke!) lol

        • Adam Schmidt

Gene, I don’t know how to message directly on here but feel free to look me up on Facebook and we can connect from there.

          • Gene

alas…the same corporate policy that prevents me even doing disquis prevents that…but, I will find a way. lookling forward to it.

    • Congratulations! My girlfriend and I are in Georgia, and we plan to be wed by this time next week (Her parents are gonna have a to-do for us at their place over the holiday weekend ^_^ )

      • Gene

ah! I am so happy for you!
I wish you all the best and every happiness!
if I may ask (not being..well…stalkey…which, from my words over time I hope you would know I am not, but..privacy of people must be respected, and I don’t want to understrand I am sure) where are you? Atl, Decatur..Athens..Savannah? just curious. In any case, I hope you have the most beautiful wedding, the GREATEST happiness, and that the two of you have the benefit of suffering together (you will suffer anyway my dear…that is it suffering illness/poverty/loss/pain TOGETHER that makes life..well..worth living. and, when its over, you don’t look back and say “I survived that” you get to say “WE survived that..and we are the stronger together for it.” It is the best feeling, and the greatest happiness, two people can know. that may sound morbid but its not, and, if you think about it, you will see the truth in it. and, when that has happened, the times of joy, of gain, of happiness…they are just all the sweeter. Have a happy and wonderful wedding. and, be happy. 🙂

        • Thank you!

We live in Roswell. My girlfriend calls it “Yuppieville,” but it’s convenient to both our jobs (Sadly, it’s not, you know, THE Roswell). Her parents leave waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay out in Carlton (east-northeast of Athens).

As for me, I tend to only suffer in the spring here (I had no idea I had pollen allergies before moving to Georgia, hee). :p

          • Gene

            ah…time…give it time.
But for now…enjoy the wonder of being young and in love. And have a great wedding. if it is not to forward, if I can help in any way (strong back, good worker) let me know.
            hugs to you two girls…
(PS…yes…the city is full of yuppies…vs Decatur..full of guppies 🙂

      • B Snow

And best wishes to you both!

    • johncAtl

Congratulations. And expect a noisy night. The lesbians will be partying in the streets in Decatur.

    • j.martindale

      So happy for you.

    • B Snow

  • joe ho

Des anyone know what’s going on in Ohio and Michigan–the Alabama and Mississippi of the North?

    • Giant Monster Gamera

My family in Michigan reports that marriages are happening.

    • Gene

I know KY is having marriages…people are reacting with a “yeah,,we knew that was coming. whatever” attitude.
but..despite unfair rep…KY is NOT MI, or OH..or (god forbid) TN

    Opinion of the Court …….
No union is more profound than marriage, for it embodies
the highest ideals of love, fidelity, devotion, sacrifice,
and family. In forming a marital union, two people become
something greater than once they were. As some of
the petitioners in these cases demonstrate, marriage
embodies a love that may endure even past death. It
would misunderstand these men and women to say they
disrespect the idea of marriage. Their plea is that they do
respect it, respect it so deeply that they seek to find its
fulfillment for themselves. Their hope is not to be condemned
to live in loneliness, excluded from one of civilization’s
oldest institutions. They ask for equal dignity in the
eyes of the law. The Constitution grants them that right.
The judgment of the Court of Appeals for the Sixth
    Circuit is reversed.

    It is so ordered.

    • billbear1961

      It chokes me up.

And the last four sentences give me gooseflesh!

It is the very majesty of JUSTICE speaking!!

      • HAAAAAAA

        It is beautiful.

  • Corey

    First marriage in South Daokta

    • Corey

      Some courts in Alabama too

  • StraightGrandmother

I paused it just with 12 minutes left because something occurred to me.
All of these weddings are taking place calmly and orderly, like all the Judges have all the time in the world.
Think back to the lower courts rulings and the appeals courts rulings, people dropping what they were doing and rushing to the Court House to get married before it was to late, before it could be denied them. I remember so well Utah & Arkansas, there was another one where the lower court ruled and peopled rushed before an Appeals Court could issue a stay. Was it Indiana?

What a difference SCOTUS made huh?

    • Leo Tallant

I was thinking this morning about how people should hurry and get married while they can, but then I had to keep reminding myself that THIS is a window that will not be closed.

  • DonnaLee

I adore how quickly these judges got together for this event! So beautiful!

  • Gerry Fisher

I’m *particularly* happy for our brothers and sisters in states where they had to wait the longest. You GO, Georgia!

  • GayEGO

Yay! Georgia! I hope our friends in Lawrenceville get married today.
