HORRIFYING: Gay Couple Brutally Bashed With Chair At Chelsea Restaurant

Via DNA Info:

A gay couple was bashed over the head with a wooden chair, knocked to the ground and kicked by two men hurling anti-gay slurs at the Chelsea Dallas BBQ Tuesday night, in an attack captured on a graphic video, according to police and the victims. “These guys attacked us specifically because they knew we weren’t their type of people,” said Jonathan Snipes, 32, who had a tooth knocked loose and cartilage snapped in his ear during the beating.

“It was disgusting. It was awful,” Snipes, who was attacked alongside his boyfriend Ethan York-Adams, 25, told DNAinfo New York. In one video, York-Adams, 25, tries to shield Snipes by throwing his arm around his shoulder just before a man rushes up to them with a wooden chair and cracks it over their heads. York-Adams falls to the floor and Snipes slumps into a nearby chair, visibly dazed. An NYPD spokesman said an investigation is ongoing, but that the incident was not currently being investigated as a hate crime.

At the restaurant, Snipes got a text about a death in his family and needed to leave the restaurant quickly, he said. As he headed out, he accidentally knocked over a drink, he said. “A table near us audibly started making pretty gross comments about the two of us like, ‘White faggots, spilling drinks,'” Snipes said. “I don’t let anyone talk to me like that. I went over there and asked, ‘What did you say about us?'” he added. The man knocked Snipes to the ground and started kicking his face and spine, knocking loose one of his teeth, snapping the cartilage in his ear and bruising his head, he said. He shouted, “Take that, faggot,” according to Snipes.

No arrests have been made. Warning: The video is graphic.

    Animal.

  • AJD

That worthless piece of shit needs to be charged with attempted murder with a hate crime enhancement.

    • Jonathan

Castrating him might make him more docile.

      • AJD

Well I can only hope he’ll be someone’s bitch in prison, preferably if he doesn’t want to be.

        • Lumpy Gaga

I think we can do this without prison rape jabs.

          • AJD

It’s not a jab. It’s somethting I actually wish upon him.

          • brian

Stand in front of the mirror and meet the person who would say such a barbaric statement. Maybe reevaluate.,,

    Prison.

What the attacker needs is prison.

It’ll give him some time to think about what he’s done.

    • Jonathan

I think he’s pretty clearly identified in the video. Shouldn’t be too difficult to find him. We’ll soon see.

    • gaymex

You are so much kinder than I am.

      • Jonathan

Me too. Castration to be sure he doesn’t spawn any more little assholes and then a slow poisoning with something painful.

  • Lumpy Gaga

Anyone wondering “Why don’t [gays] fight back?” needs to look at the 2nd video. There IS pushback. _Followed_ by chair to heads.

  • Lawerence Collins

Stunned. These days I rarely am shocked by what people do. Fear evolves into hate and rage. Rage explodes into violence. I’ve no idea what really prompted this response. My fear is that once again. Religious bigotry is at the core.

    • Gustav2

In this country it usually is religious bigotry by someone who hasn’t been to church since Grannie’s funeral.

    • Regan DuCasse

Let’s for a second consider this: The attacker didn’t at first have a weapon. He used a chair, eventually. A solid chair that could kill a person considering the blow that was delivered with it. Let’s consider also, what it would take to get someone that big and enraged under control.
Any people here experienced with children (a teacher perhaps), might know how difficult it is to get a fit throwing SIX year old under control, let alone a full grown adult male.
Who COULD suddenly BECOME armed, with whatever is at hand. A baton, or hand gun of an officer, for example.
His feet, a single kick delivered in the right place, can be disabling for enough time to do a lot more damage.

I think that some people truly don’t understand, depending on the conversation we’re having about the conduct of police officers, that ‘unarmed’ does NOT mean, non threatening.
But let’s consider if the police finally arrived and the attacker didn’t stop being combative, and he ended up taking some blows himself to get him under control.
Tell me, would you REALLY hate for the police to have to resort to that?
I’m just wondering. Context is everything when it comes to how people are expected to DEFEND themselves, whether they wear a uniform or not.

      • canoebum

You’re defending the guy who used a chair to hit someone from behind while they weren’t looking? Is that right?

        • Regan DuCasse

I certainly am NOT. I was illustrating how an initially unarmed man, armed himself with a CHAIR and became dangerous within seconds.
You didn’t get that? Sorry, you misunderstood me.
Apologies for the misunderstanding if I wasn’t clear.

          • canoebum

            Ok, I get it. Thanks.

    • gaymex

Religious bigotry and irresponsible politicians and Foxers . Damn, I’m furious.

That’s one major head bash with a chair. And it isn’t a hate crime because the victim accidentally knocked over a cocktail? Someone calls you out as a “Faggot!” and it isn’t hate? It sure ain’t homey southern hospitality.

Hope the criminals get long prison sentences. Hope once they are released they are broke, in massive debt, and forced to live in the type of poverty that many disowned LGBT youth have been forced to live in. Except there will be no Ali Forney Center for them. They get to live awful and miserable lives on the streets sleeping between garbage bags.

  • TKW

Just shows hope fragile our freedom is as gay people. On a lighter note, at the end of the video the suggested next video was Kenny G doing “Can’t You Feel the Love Tonight.” Not really.

  • patrick

As a Philly-boy here, I’d have to say that you don’t ever turn your back on anyone after you’ve gone up to their table to challenge them with a “what did you say” remark. If you can’t let “sticks and stones” comments go without a reply, and you prefer not to complain directly to the restaurant-manager, then you have got to be prepared to defend yourself. Lol.

That said, the chair-throw clearly appeared to occur AFTER the confrontation. So, hopefully, that will discredit the inevitable “self-defense” claims which the perpetrators will no doubt make (just like those in last year’s well-publicized Philly gay-bashing).

    • Lumpy Gaga

      ^
      ^
      Just ‘cuz.

  • TheManicMechanic

Here’s the thing, if I were ever bashed, I would most likely fight back, and depending on the conditions, I don’t think I would stop. The other person(s) would likely never walk again. I have so much pent up anger against homophobes I’d unload every last bit of it on my attacker or anyone attacking my friends. For their sake, they best make the first hit a good one. I’m done with this shit, it’s time their bashing is their last.

    • Paula

Same here. They may kick my ass but, they will know they have been in a fight. I will fight dirty!

      • TheManicMechanic

Oh, this will be far from clean fighting. Most likely beginning with heavy objects.

        • RaygunsGoZap

I’ve been confronted by bigots and threatened with violence but I’ve always managed to talk them down. Sometimes nicely and calmly but mostly by very cooly telling the person that if they do not kill me today, i will kill them.

          • bambinoitaliano

This is a sneak attack, there’s no talking time.

          • RaygunsGoZap

Have you read the reports or the other comments referencing those reports? Doesn’t seem like a sneak attack, seems like somebody started something he couldn’t finish, turned his back on the person he started a fight with and got cold cocked. When he turned around and went back to the table, he set that animal in motion. The guy who hit him with the chair should be charged.

          • bambinoitaliano

If the victim did not anticipate any physical violence, that’s a sneak attack. Not like the basher ask him to step outside of the restaurant.

          • RaygunsGoZap

You still obviously haven’t read any of the reports where witnesses report that the “victim” approached the table, confronted the stranger over what he says he thought he heard the guy say and that the “victim” threw the first punch. Missed, but threw first.

Did the chair dude take it to far? Yes. And he should be punished.

Did the “victim” instigate it? Yes. And he should be punished too.

I say “victim” because when you start a fight and then you lose horribly, you’re a loser not a victim.

Now kindly stop replying out of your ass. Good night.

          • RaygunsGoZap

Also, go fuck yourself! SNEAK ATTACKED!

          • bambinoitaliano

See if you say that to my face, that would not be sneak attack. I would anticipate some form of physical violence. I won’t be attack by a chair. Not before I knock you out cold 🙂

      • Ginger Snap

        Me too!

      • barracks9

The only time I’ve ever left my boyfriend speechless was when this sort of topic came up and I said to him, with no trace of humor or emotion whatsoever, “I’m not afraid to break someone’s knee.”

        • bambinoitaliano

You are too kind. I will go for the jugular.

      • fuow

It’s not fighting dirty, darling, it’s fighting to win. They already lost all rights by starting it.
They start it, we finish it.

    • Octavio

In my old age I’m no longer a great fighter. But I do have patience and know how to:
      – knife tires so they cannot be repaired
      – write stuff in someone’s lawn with nitrogen fertilizer (first it kills the lawn, then comes back four times as green the next year
      – abruptly stop while going down stairs so anyone following trips over me (especially good for escalators)
      – ping an IP address and hack e-mail
      Oh, so many things . . . . 🙂

      • Lumpy Gaga

        Come sit next to me.

      • TheManicMechanic

Oh, I have myriad other attack vectors as well, from subtle to outrageous, all of them can be quite devastating. 😉

        • LonelyLiberal

Remind me never to date, and then break up with, you.

          • TheManicMechanic

Ya know, I never had to go beast mode with any of my exes. Not even miffed sparklepony mode. All have been amicable (so far). 🙂

          • Todd20036

Worst thing that every happened to me, was my ex trashed my name (or at least tried to) all over the Pines. Not exactly sure what he said, I never went back there after I dumped him, but I have a feeling he trashed me so much that the shit boomeranged on him, and people got sick of him spewing.

          • BobSF_94117

            Ohhhhh… you’re that Todd…

            [just kidding]

          • Todd20036

Only if you are friends with my ex, a psychiatrist at Bellvue. (or at least, he was 20 years ago)

          • TheManicMechanic

I had a couple online friends that turned out to be whackjobs that took a similar tack, and it mostly backfired, especially among mutual friends. They just tarred their own reputations more than anything else.

          • VodkaAndPolitics

Better to be trashed in the pines, than pining for trash, I say.

          • Lumpy Gaga

The only thing worse than being trashed in the Pines, is NOT being trashed in the Pines.

          • LonelyLiberal

“I see,” he said, backing away slowly and carefully and maintaining eye contact. 🙂

          • TheManicMechanic

            LOL!

          • Octavio

In the era or rotary phones a dear old friend was so pissed at his ex he wrote his ex’s new phone number on every bathroom stall in The Castro, North Beach, Sausalito, Buena Vista Park, and Twin Peaks. Basically, everywhere he took a piss, dump or cruised. LOL! It worked.

          • BlueberriesForMe

I can only imagine you as a “miffed sparklepony”. :=)

          • TheManicMechanic

That does tend to happen a lot. 😉

      • LonelyLiberal

I can offer you tips for soil-binding resources that will render your message dead soil for years. However, these are not harmful to the environment over long periods, merely toxic in larger amounts.

Alternately, ferrous ammonium sulfate spray will turn the lawn thus sprayed incredibly green for several weeks for more temporary messages.

        • Bj Lincoln

Dry potato flakes work well and washes away. It takes more then a few boxes but when it gets wet, it swells and you have nice fluffy letters.

          • LonelyLiberal

I like the way you think. Plus the decaying potato would give the lawn a nice organic feeding.

          • Mark

along with attracting mice, roof rats and what nots…..

          • LonelyLiberal

Eh, I got roof rats, mice, voles, rabbits, the rare fox, and just about every other type of creature you could imagine. For the most part, they’re not interested in invading the house and not interested in bothering with me.

I feed organically, so life abounds here and gets treated very well. I figure they were here long before I was, and will be here long after I’m gone.

          • Bj Lincoln

Not really. Because it washes away with a hose or a good rain, it usually not around long. It is organic so it doesn’t hurt anything.

          • Mark

actually, it’s an organic solution for packrats. They eat it and it slowly expands in their intestines. I’ll not go in to any more detail but I use it for that problem here in lieu of poison.

      • Mike

You had me until “ping an IP address”.

        • TheManicMechanic

It’s all in what you send after the ping. 😉

          • Mike

Unless your victim happens to be one of the random few stragglers who’s no longer behind a home NAT device, and is also running some unpatched and ancient version of Windows vulnerable to remote exploits, I don’t see what all you intend to send that’s going to do all that much damage.

Unless you’re just copping to a DoS attack, which I suppose someone might notice.

          • TheManicMechanic

In some cases you can get into the router and open up some ports or reroute DNS queries, stuff like that, but even that isn’t all that damaging. After I switched to all enterprise grade internet-facing gear, very little ever gets past it to even show up on individual machine firewalls.

      • Bj Lincoln

I stuffed my ex-sister-in-law’s snail mail box with samples of everything I could find. I made up and ID and business and went to work for hours every night for weeks. I ordered everything she didn’t like and all the wrong sizes. It got so bad that she had to go pick it up because it was too much loose mail the fit in her box! I asked for phone calls and info on insurances and moving companies.

        • 2amor

I will definitely keep ALL that in mind for future use. Love it!

        • Paula

Can I get you a saucer of milk? Meow!!!
          😉

        • BobSF_94117

I think you’re confessing online to multiple counts of federal felony charges…

          • Todd20036

Mail fraud at the least. Be careful, Bj.

          • Todd Allis

“Years ago” hopefully equals “past the statute of limitations.”

          • Bj Lincoln

            16 or 17 years ago.

          • Mark_in_MN

Mail fraud requires that someone be defrauded. What BJ describes might be mean, but no one was being defrauded based in that description.

          • Bj Lincoln

This was years ago and nothing cost her or myself a dime. They were all free. I told no one at the time either. I just enjoyed hearing about it at a family gathering about a month into them coming.

        • Ginger Snap

I am in awe of you superior skills.

        • Stev84

What did she do to you?

          • Bj Lincoln

She broke my baby brothers heart and used the kids as weapons to keep beating him down. They were grade school sweethearts. They separated for a few months in High School but got back together, had their first child, got married and had 2 more. He worked 2 jobs and maintained the barn, animals and coral. Nothing was good enough for her. She gave him a grocery bag full of work clothes and kicked him out. I wanted to kick her ass.

      • TheManicMechanic

That’s just it. It’s combat with irrational minds driven by hate. It’s more than a grudge match or bar fight. These people are fueled with death language thanks to their brand of religion in most cases.

        • CottonBlimp

It’s not the hate I’m the most worried about, it’s the toxic masculinity. At the end of the day, these incidents have less to do with ideology than insecure men, and it’s the insecure men who are the most likely to build up their strength or practice being violent as a hobby.

        • Jasper

This thug is not doubt an Obama voter, I’m certain of it.

I’ve experienced this firsthand talking to dogmatic libertarians. They’re much less confident that government is never the answer when *they* have to provide the answer.

          • Because he’s homophobic or because he’s black.

And even if he happened to have voted for Obama — if he even voted at all — why is that relevant? It’s only relevant if you’re suggesting that he bashed these guys BECAUSE of being an Obama supporter, in which case you should try to explain, given that Obama has done more for gay rights that every President in the history of this country combined. And that’s a verifiable fact.

But I think you’re just trolling for attention. Which is pretty pathetic.

          • fuow

Jasper, the other racist mother-fuckers done moved on. Why don’t you just go shove a broken-beer-bottle up your ass and join them?

          • Guest

We should send his racist,knuckle-dragging ass to towleroad! That seems to be where all the KKK “fags” seem to congregate nowadays! Just a thought…

          • John30013

His politics really aren’t at issue here; his actions are. No one here ever claimed that all Obama voters (or all Democrats, for that matter) support LGBT equality.

So, aside from trolling, what is your point?

          • Jasper

Somebody here blamed it on the tea-party

          • John30013

The only reference to Tea Party besides your two is from Tom Schott: This shit’s gonna get worse. Thanks, GOP/Tea blowhards and hate preachers..

Nowhere in that statement does Tom say that the attacker identified with the Tea Party. He was making a general comment that much anti-LGBT rhetoric these days is coming from various people who claim affiliation with the GOP and/or Tea Party, and that such rhetoric may lead to violence like this incident.

This part is factually correct: many GOP- and Tea Party-affiliated people have recently made various anti-LGBT statements. The overall supposition that such statements could lead to violence cannot be proven, but it’s not unreasonable either.

That you’ve conflated his post with this particular person being a Tea Party (or GOP) member is your own doing. Don’t try to lay it at anyone else’s feet and then whine when we call you out on it.

          • Jasper

If u watch the video the thug says something like “white MFer”, so the assault has nothing to do with victm’s sexual orientation or the tea party. Being against homosexual marriage is a legitimate stance.

          • Guess

If said stance involves throwing a chair, not so much! 😉

Both posted videos are short segments and do not capture the entire interaction between the people involved. You’re the one who made an issue of the Tea Party comment; now it seems like you’re trying to walk that back.

Marriage equality is not at issue here either, so I don’t know what your final sentence has to do with this discussion (other than further revealing your true motivation for posting here in the first place—i.e., to troll).

      • Corey

The guy who commit the crime of bashing the man with the chair deserves jail time and his career needs to be over. He shouldn’t be hired to wipe shit off the sidewalk. Having written this, I would NEVER go back and say anything to someone who might have hurled the word “faggot” in the first place. These people (any bigoted homophones who would say this) are on edge with a short fuse and they are looking for any excuse to go off. Use better judgment.

        • gaymex

I realized late in life when I suddenly was confronted with raising my now husband’s 4 year old child that raising a child makes you sensitive to protecting a person you perceive as weak. It’s reflexive to jump in. The same way it would be for most parents to jump in front of a car to try to save anyone’s child, or to protect a family member–personal risk doesn’t enter the equation. I understand what you are saying, but I am surprised that more bystanders didn’t help the victims. A restaurant full of people couldn’t pin down and hold someone who just beat someone with a chair? Sad.

          • bambinoitaliano

It’s not a usual occurrence to be sitting in a restaurant and encounter that kind of violence. Most patrons are more shock than prepare to jump in. Probably it was over before many realize what had happen.

          • gaymex

            You’re probably right

        • fuow

I always take the advice of my most trusted companions: Mr. Smith and Mr. Wesson.
The only way this will end is if we raise the cost for their rudeness to the level that they back down.

      • Goodboy

“He shouted, “Take that, faggot” and then takes a chair and bashes it over the head of someone with their back turned.

I hope they sue that fucking bigot to no end.

        • gaymex

That is for sure…always keep them in your field of vision and watch for any hint of escalation.

        • Guest

          He’s both a pussy and a bigot!

      • bambinoitaliano

It’s not a fight, it’s self defence. The only way to make sure you are safe is the attacker no longer move. And I will make sure of that.

    • THIS! When my hubby, a peace-loving Bear, hears stuff like this he tells me, “If some poor dumbass confronts us like this, just step out of the way, my love, and call 911 to get their ambulance ride on the way.” He’s had 30 years experience handling violent criminals, so he’d snap some loud-mouth bigot like a twig. But, of course, the bashers do seem to like attacking in numbers usually.

This shit’s gonna get worse. Thanks, GOP/Tea blowhards and hate preachers.

      • TheManicMechanic

Unfortunately, things will continue to get worse. It’s when the bashers/haters realize there are increasingly dire consequences to their actions will they begin reconsidering. Unfortunately, experience has taught me thatthose in power tend to side with the bigots, though a lot of that has changed in 40 years. Still, you think some small town high holy judge is going to rule against some cornfed good ol’ bubbas? There’s a lot of work to do, and it needs to be at the federal level, where the sting hurts the hardest.

        • fuow

Yup. Of course, given how few gay men bother to vote, and how few young women do, either, we’re in for a long spell of trouble.

          • TheManicMechanic

It’s still bad in areas with explicit protections normally thought of as pretty safe. Look at all the bashings in the last several years in NYC alone. About all one can do really is prepare for the worst.

      • Jasper

Yes, the guy bash the chair over the other guys head was a tea-partier. LOL. No sir, he’s your typical Obama voter.

        • disqus_oCvsL5SBJH

If you know his political affiliation you must know his name. Inquiring minds want to know.

          • Jasper

I will bet you $1,000 he is a Obama voter/democrat. Give me a place/account to deposit your money if I’m wrong. Want to bet?

          • disqus_oCvsL5SBJH

So you don’t know his political affiliation. Or his name.

          • Jeffrey

Wow, you must be some kind of psychic or genius to know that. Or maybe you’re just a garden variety racist.

          • bambinoitaliano

Even Dionne Warwick and her psychic friends took their foolish pride and walk on by. He must a be left over that still linger around.

          • Jasper

You Obama voters are really swell people.

Haha your hubby and I must be brothers. I once had an incident at a restaurant and told my bf at the time “here’s 5 dollars, get in a cab and go home, I’ll call you after I get arrested.”

    • Bill

I learned to fight years ago and think all gay men should learn self-defense.

I learned to fight so that I would not have to fight.

A man can sense if another man can handle himself in a fight.

Most are too cowardly to involve themselves in a fight they aren’t sure they can win.

I’d have made sure that the dude at this restaurant was eating his teeth and had to tell his homies he got the shit beat out of him by a fag.

Then, I’d punch him some more.

    • bryan

Young guy tried once to mug a transexual woman I knew. She gave him one swift kick, he fell, and she walked away without a scratch : Staunch character. We are not soft targets.

    • VodkaAndPolitics

You just be careful, alright. No dead JMGers today, there are too many sassy comments that have yet to be written.

    • unfortunately, these dirtbags never go after guys like yourself. they attack those that appear weaker than themselves.

    • m_lp_ql_m

“Violence is never the answer. Be the bigger man and walk away.”

Sorry, you can only walk away if you’re still conscious.

      • Bigger Man

And sometimes you only stay conscious by walking away.

Damn, you’re just full of stupid resonses today, aren’t you?

        • m_lp_ql_m

Sometimes. Like when you’re bashed over the head from behind. ◔_◔

      • bambinoitaliano

    • TacoBell

I know some will disagree with me but they were BOTH asking for it they were both hot tempered and just because the gay guy got beat but does not make it a hate crime

From what I read he had every opportunity to keep on walking and check himself because he had other things on his mind.

It was a fight and apparently both parties had been stewing someone has to win and someone has to lose.

I know that the comments weren’t appropriate but blood was flowing and well there is it.

      • Cody

NOBDOY asks for that, fool. Unless you are an uneducated ape who has no grasp of language…

    • JalapeñoBusiness

      Amen.

    • Jody

The problem is, the vast majority of us, even those who’ve taken self-defense classes, will freeze when confronted with such a situation. It takes an endless amount of work, exposure, and training to be able to spring into action when a fight breaks out without warning.

And if a chair hits you over the head? Again and in spite of what the movies portray, most of us can’t bounce back from that to mount an effective response.

      • bambinoitaliano

This is true. Unless you are in the line of work that require to be alert at all time, most of us will react much slower if at all with this kind of attack.

    • bambinoitaliano

Yup. I’m generally a non violent person. But if someone would see fit to bash me. All I can say is, It will be self defence what ever the condition the basher will end up with. Because I will not stop unless I get pull away by a few very strong individuals.

    • Gerry Fisher

I don’t know if I’d be able to carry it out, but I totally, TOTALLY share your sentiment. Enough, already.

    • Steven Leahy

NY has had gay marriage for years. I don’t think a few more southern states getting marriage equality will have any effect on a bunch of losers who likely never follow the news anyway.

Ironic in that many/most of the most recent high-profile gay bashings have been in liberal northeastern cities.

  • Drake

    Why no arrests yet ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?

    • disqus_oCvsL5SBJH

And why is this not being investigated as a hate crime?

  • Zenith

As a rule of thumb, if people separate you from a fight, don’t be that short white gay guy who walks up to the 6’4 built black homophobe and throw a punch only to reignite the fight and get knocked on your ass and trampled on.

And definitely never turn your back against an assailant on that conflict. I don’t understand how the boyfriend who had actual line of sight into the guy coming with a chair didn’t try to move his boyfriend away from the chair smash.

Please don’t get mouthy and much less physical if you’re clearly a fem guy with little experience in combat. Someone 6’4 full on thug mode is not the guy you want to choose to confront for calling you a “faggot”.

A slur is just a word, if you haven’t taken self defense courses or have no experience fighting, wounded pride is far better than knocked out teeth and being knocked unconscious by a chair.

If he was calling them faggots all night they should have just gotten up and retired to speak with the manager and security of the establishment, and if the guy had followed them simply pull out a phone and call 911 in a loud voice while trying to stall the assault.

People need to understand that for a vast amount of men, violence is a legit form of resolving conflict. Just because you trade insults with other gay guys as your highest form of conflict doesn’t mean you can do the same with a straight guy who has an immense height and body mass advantage.

    • JalapeñoBusiness

Agreed. Pick your battles. Either way, I support it.

    • Steven Leahy

What do the races of the aggressor and the victim have to do with anything? Would you be OK with it if it were a small fem black guy and a big built white homophobe?

I agree you should choose your battles and not step into something that will become too big for you to handle, but the notion that gay men are somehow a bunch of pansies incapable of defending themselves against straight men who attack them is inaccurate and offensive.

      • Zenith

I was pointing out the race because the victims are basically yuppies. A large black guy of that demeanor obviously has been involved in physical altercations before. The victims have not. It was obvious, look at the video the boyfriend throws a punch at the blakc guy after they’ve been separated and the punch doesn’t even connect, and within a few seconds the thug has knocked him into the floor and is trampling over him. You are not going to win that fight, should have walked your ass out as soon as things started getting hostile.

As much as it may irk you, the way that people present themselves can be a good indicator of how prone they are to violence if they see any provocation. If it bothers you that much, know that the big black homophobe could be switched for some large redneck and it would be the same. But we clearly aren’t talking Asian college undergrads or some suburban nerd. Certain demographics like rednecks, black, even straight hispanic males do often prey on a particular subset of gay men who they know pose little threat of successfully retaliating.

A couple of well dressed yuppies of slight build is easy pickings for the perp.

I’m not saying all gay men are incapable of defending themselves. I’m saying that the gay guy who has no experience in fighting and doesn’t have a build to back it up, should not continue a physical altercation with a guy several heads taller than you and far more muscular.

There’s a reason why in MMA and other fighting formats combatants are divided among wight classes. It’s not a remotely fair fight with sauch a fast difference in height and weight. Even a well trained individual faces great risk in engaging much larger guys in combat.

However vile this encounter was, the victims made a grave error in one of them throwing a punch after they were separated. Hell, walking up to a large guy calling you faggot is a really DUMB idea.

  • Yalma Cuder-Zicci

I just noticed at the end of the second video, after the couple have been slammed with the chair, a guy comes over and leans in, and instead of helping them, sticks his camera out to take either a video or photo. Jesus.

  • jomai

I just ran a quick search for other sources on this, and it appears that many outlets are squarely blaming this on the couple themselves. According to one of the recording witnesses, he says it was all started with a sucker-punch that Snipes threw first. That one witness may have to do with why the cops aren’t calling it a hate crime yet.

  • Ninja0980

A reminder to folks who think it’s only Red states where this can happen.
There are dangers in even “safe” areas, something we need to keep in mind.

    • Steven Leahy

Seems like it happens a lot more in the blue states, at least what makes the news.

      • JalapeñoBusiness

Seems like it happens a lot in NYC and metro areas. These rednecks come into town and find out that the city is more progressive than the two-bit back street town they came from.

        • Steven Leahy

Unfortunately many of them appear to be natives born and raised and not rednecks from somewhere else.

  • nycmcmike

Has anyone bothered to read up on what the witnesses stated? The guy who videotaped it said it was the gay couple who started the fight.

Why are we insisting on jumping on the hate crime bandwagon before we ask any questions since its apparent we’re not being told the whole story?

btw, there’s a guy on Facebook who knows the guy said he’s kind of a dick. He said the guy intentionally threw away a piece of jewelry which belonged to a deceased friend of his.

IMO, sounds like this diva started a fight and didn’t think it through.

    • Steven Leahy

One guy’s account. The other witness said the big guy was calling them faggots all night. Think we need to wait for the investigation to determine the truth.

Well facebook doesn’t lie I guess so that’s all the evidence we need!

      • nycmcmike

The other “witnesses”… You mean his friends?

Unless I’m mistaken, the video shows the gay guy sucker-punching the black guy.

And, uh, sure… Some random guy is going to post this story and add “I know this guy, he intentionally threw away my dead friend’s ring so I guess there is Karma after all” for the hell of it.

        • JalapeñoBusiness

What time stamp is the punch?

          • nycmcmike

I was mistaken, I only watched the video once and it was when the fight was already in full swing.

Guess I’ll have to go by what the guy who video taped it stated.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

            Wait. What?

          • nycmcmike
          • Steven Leahy

LOL oh REALLY? That’s solid evidence?

          • nycmcmike

            LOL oh REALLY?

It’s a hell of lot more solid then thinking this was a hate crime due to what the victim and his friends stated.

Anything else you might need help with today in figuring out or do you want to just continue riding the bandwagon without asking any questions first?

          • JalapeñoBusiness

Um. Dude. You are the last one to preach about jumping the fucking gun. I just read the link with the witness statement. There’s no video of the sucker punch.

          • nycmcmike

I said I was mistaken about the video.

However, my point is we are all too quick to jump on the hate crime bandwagon without asking questions first.

If it turns out the gay guy suckered punch the black guy then he only has himself to blame for what happened next.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

WE? Who is this we? You. You were too quick. Also, ONE witness doesn’t validate what went down. But now that we’re here let’s summarize, shall we:

            Gay guys argue and fight.

            Big Dude makes remark.

Angry gay guy (with steel balls) confronts Big Dude.

            Angry Gay gay throws punch.

            Chaos ensues.

Big Dude has Angry gay on floor, beating, kicking him in face and spine.

            Crowd separates the two men.

Angry gay guy turned around to leave, scene is somewhat calm

Big Dude picks up chair and beats angry gay guy, back turned, walking away.

Any third grader would have done what Big Dude did. Big dude didn’t mind his business. Angry gay is culpable for his actions too. However, as a 6’4″ giant adult, Big Dude should have used restraint and not escalated the fight *TWICE* against 140 bucks Angry Gay guy into something else that could have easily been manslaughter.

          • Steven Leahy

            well put

          • nycmcmike

            Bandwagoneer, meet bandwagoneer….

          • nycmcmike

You’re right, it’s not “we” although you were half way right about the “you” part.

No, let’s summarize what really happened:

Story is told on gay blog giving gay guy’s account of what happened along with his friends’ accounts too.

“You” (and yes that’s ‘you’ and most of the people commenting on here) don’t bother wondering if there’s more to this story since people don’t usually hit someone over the side of the head with a chair with out being provoked.

“You” (again, it’s the half-way you were right part here but you missed the actual “who the you is” part completely) didn’t bother checking out reliable news sources to figure out what 3rd party witnesses stated.

“You”, if you had bothered thinking logically at all, would have realized those 3rd parties stated the gay guy started it by sucker punching the black guy.

If “you” or anyone else needs help coming down from the bandwagon let me know but screaming nelly queens usually like the ride.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

Mike fuck you and the bandwagon you rode in on. A buck 40 little dude taking a swipe at a 6’4″ giant who was running his mouth hardly qualifies the DOUBLE beating that ensued. It should have STOPPED once buck 40 took his swing and 6’4″ laughed at his dumb ass. That wasn’t a chair beating, spine kicking, teeth bashing provocation. I’m done.

          • nycmcmike

            Of course you’re done.

Go for it. Go up to a 6’4 black guy, sucker punch him and then come back and tell me if he laughed at you or beat the living crap out of you.

Don’t worry, I’ll give you plenty of time for the recovery period of your discovery.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

LOL. I have no problem standing up for myself. Thanks.

          • nycmcmike

            Me neither.

            btw, good night

          • nycmcmike

btw, why doesn’t anyone on this board go up to some 6’4 black guy and sucker punch him?

Let me know how shocked you are when he beats the living crap out of you.

          • Steven Leahy

YOU don’t know that happened, you weren’t there, You’re assuming and you’ve got nothing else besides your assumptions.

          • nycmcmike

Well if this isn’t the kettle talking again.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

And his apparent fear of Giant Black Men.

          • nycmcmike

Oh, I’m not afraid of big, black men. I kind of like them.

But I can assure you, I’m not the guy who throws the first punch either.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

Why? Should we atomically be afraid of giant black men? Are giant black men not trained well enough to control themselves? Is this a new thing? Rampaging giant black men?

          • nycmcmike

Look, we can’t be sure what happened. But, honestly, it doesn’t matter if he was 6’4, 5’4, black or 3 legged. If anyone (man, woman, gay, straight, etc, etc) goes up and sucker punches anyone they deserve what’s coming to them since you do not know if that person you sucker punched is then going to pick up a chair and smash it over your head. Hey, if you don’t want a chair smashed over your head then I suggest you don’t go around sucker punching people

          • Steven Leahy

YOU don’t know that he did sucker punch him, and YOU also do not know the events leading up to the altercation. So go ahead, loud has-to-have-the-last-word NYCMike, have your last word.

          • nycmcmike

Which part of “Look, we can’t be sure what happened” did you miss. I thought putting it as the 1st line might make it obvious.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

Or if you don’t want to be sucker punched by a buck 40 gay diva with a ‘tude, don’t go around making smart ass remarks about diva being a faggot. Works both ways.

          • Steven Leahy

Pot? Kettle? You already made up your mind based on what you’ve already posted, based on a whole lotta nothing, so no thanks,

          • nycmcmike

No pot, no kettle. I’m only pointing out there are way too many people in our community who don’t bother asking questions when a 3rd grader could even tell you there’s probably a lot more to the story than what we’re being told especially when anyone who wanted to know more about it could actually find out if what 3rd party witnesses stated are true then this gay guy was asking for it.

          • Steven Leahy

You seem like you want to believe the gay guy was “asking” for it. Not sure what he could have done to justify being hit in the head with a chair while having “faggot” screamed at him.

Take your own advice and wait until all the facts come in, and I’ll do the same.

          • nycmcmike

            Agreed completely on this one.

Sorry, I have a tendency to play devil’s advocate so if everyone is taking one side I’m always itching to argue the other.

btw, yes, I do think there’s a lot more to this story than what we’re being told

          • Max_1

I’m going by the other witnesses that said they were being called names all night…

        • Steven Leahy

That video was so dark, muffled and blurry I don’t know how anyone could figure out every detail of what happened.

So far the only person reporting the gay guys started it is this Sharef character – you don’t know what his motives are any more than you know what the female’s were (she said the big guy started it)

The investigation will tell, not one dude and facebook anecdotes,

          • nycmcmike

A random witness is usually more believable then the friend due to the friend most likely having a bias.

        • Max_1

          You’re defending an assault…

          You say… they said… they saw…

          VIDEO PLEASE… hearsay anyone?

    • JalapeñoBusiness

Acting like a diva still doesn’t equate being attacked and beaten with a chair, being knocked to the ground, having your spine and teeth injured.

      • nycmcmike

He sucker punched the black guy.

Not sure why people can’t comprehend the black guy might retaliate.

        • JalapeñoBusiness

OK. I hear you. Where’s the time stamp? In which video? Top or bottom?

          • nycmcmike

Yeah, the video starts when the fight is in full swing. The guy who video taped it stated the gay guy started it with a sucker punch.

          • JalapeñoBusiness

Oh for Christ sakes mike, this is how this shit gets out of control. However, thanks for clearing up the statement. Also, I missed the statement from the video taper. Where was that?

          • Max_1

You’re leaving out important information to color your narrative…

          • jk105

It started when the bigot showered them with racist and anti-gay comments.

    • Max_1

      OK … so there’s this.

“He was calling them f—-ts all night,” Sarah Meyers, 33, a friend of the victims who spoke to them afterward, told DNAinfo.com of the attacker. “It’s disgusting. It’s unbelievable.”

  • theSaint

    NOT A HATE CRIME… WTF???

  • David Lightman

I never, ever would want to have to respond with deadly force, but I am glad I live in a concealed carry state and have the option if my life is ever truly in danger. I’m pretty damn liberal on most things but I make an exception when it comes to self defense.

  • nycmcmike

Before people start making comments maybe you should first read the news report:

    http://www.nydailynews.com/new-york/man-bashes-gay-couple-chair-chelsea-bbq-restaurant-article-1.2212416

Supposedly, according to the witness who video taped it, it all started when the gay guy sucker punched the black guy.

    • Max_1

“He was calling them f—-ts all night,” Sarah Meyers, 33, a friend of the victims who spoke to them afterward, told DNAinfo.com of the attacker. “It’s disgusting. It’s unbelievable.”

      … So there’s that.

    • jk105

Actually you should read the article before YOU start commenting.
It didn’t “”all start” when the gay guy sucker punched the black guy. It “all started” when the black guy (you are the one who called him “the black guy), vomited up anti-gay and racist hate words to a gay couple.

Moreover, according to this article you posted, the sucker punch was thrown by “the black man” you have been fetishizing all over this post board. The victim of the “sucker punch” was the gay guy.

      You lose.

    • Jean-Marc in Canada

Except, that is now being questioned by others who were there, including staff. Hearsay is not proof, nor is it fact. The facts are this: the victims had their back to the perp when he attacked them with a chair. Whatever else transpired before that is not germane to the reality on the video. Period.

    • DHunter

according to info on DNAinfo reports:
“The black guy turned it into a physical altercation”

      From the article-

“At the restaurant, Snipes got a text and needed to leave the restaurant
quickly, he said. They got up and accidentally knocked over a drink, he
      said.

“A table near us audibly started making pretty gross comments about
the two of us like, ‘White faggots, spilling drinks,’” Snipes said.

“I don’t let anyone talk to me like that. I went over there and asked, ‘What did you say about us?’” he added.

Snipes said he’s 140 pounds, never thrown a punch in his life and
felt he posed no physical threat to anyone at the table, especially the
two large men there — one of whom stands about 6 feet 4 inches,
      according to police.

“I may be a mouthy broad, but I wasn’t going to take it to that level,” Snipes said.

One of the men stood up and escalated the verbal confrontation, Snipes said.

“He turned it into a physical altercation very quickly,” he added.”

Watch !!!! Child, next to my table a fight in bbqs, and a man cracks a chair over someone’s head and then runs out smh, as I waited on my chicken and shrimp combo and frozen appletini #cincodemayo

  • Lumpy Gaga

Dumb faggots should have just GTFO. If a redneck walks into an Applebee’s armed to the teeth because Open Carry, I’m not hanging around to find out what happens. And since I’m not Pamela Geller, I’m not going to put some low-level employee just trying to finish his shift between my big mouth and the trouble it causes.

The result: it might look like a dine-n-dash, but better that than spinal injuries.

(Disclaimer: I’m not stupid enough to go to a Dallas BBQ or a “Draw the Prophet” exhibit).

  • Isn’t Chelsea a part of Manhattan where many LGBT people live and there are clubs and bars — like the Castro in San Francisco? Just surprised it happened there, If anyone pulled this in the Castro they would not get out alive.

    • empidonax_road

Yes. But we’re not the only ones who live here. Chelsea has actually been getting less and less gay over the last ten years or so (the old-timers are still here; Hell’s Kitchen (20 or so blocks north) is the center of the action now).

This particular place has been around for a while (replaced a closed bank branch a number of years ago… last time that happened in this neighborhood!). It’s always been pretty trashy: the opposite of the general trend of the area.

    • TKW

I never could figure out why they put a Dallas BBQ on that corner. Totally the wrong neighborhood.

  • empidonax_road

The staff told the attackers to get out before the police came. The other customers did nothing to stop them.

That place has been a nasty, trashy dump since Day One. Boycott.

    • The Professor

It’s horrid. Lowest of the low. I am surprised this kind of shit doesn’t happen nightly.

  • Bill_Perdue

Seems like a good opportunity for hate crimes enhancements. Throw the book at them and then sue them until they’re permanently penniless.

  • Clive Johnson

If you’re concerned about street safety, consider taking a martial arts class. It’s actually a lot of fun, the people are generally good folk and supportive, and it’s a good workout.

If you practice enough you could very well get to a point where you realize that the endless strikes (grapples, locks, etc.) you’ve been performing and refining continually, actually mean something in practice. You have a skill that goes wherever you go and gives you confidence in public.

    • DumbHairyApe

Or, just take you along with us when we dine out.

      • Clive Johnson

I have two kicks that are nearly as fast and accurate as my jab, and as kicks tend to be, have a lot more reach and power. I’m an eternal student of the art, but have much further to go. I’m no expert. Yet. I’ll buy the first drinks.

If you’re looking for a real bodyguard, it’s my friend P. you want. He has black belts in several forms of m.a., and even studied—not sure what it’s called—sword rituals in Japan. You have no idea what an advantage m.a. can give you until you experience what a real expert can do like my friend. I call it ‘P.’s singularity’, a zone around him that if entered by any part of your body, will likely not be under your control anymore within a second or two. It’s really, really impressive, and gives you incredible confidence if you’re walking around with him on the street. If he saw anyone gay-bashing on the street, holy crap, there would be trouble.

    Throwing chairs?? Where was Geraldo??

    • TampaDink

      Or Jerry Springer?

Or Steve O his bouncer dude

  • fuow

This is why my husband and I both carry.
Both guns are locked to us and can’t be used by anyone else. Yes, it cost a small fortune.
    Worth every penny.
We were beaten and nearly killed by mother-fucking christian cunts once. It won’t happen again.
How does the saying go? I’d rather face 12 jurors than be carried by six pallbearers.

    • JalapeñoBusiness

Tell me more about “Both guns are locked to us”… that sounds interesting and I would like to know more about it.

    • skeptical_inquirer

I am assuming that you and only you can use your gun due to “James Bond” type tech? I wish all guns were like that.

      • fuow

Yes. We paid a great deal extra to have them coded for both of us. I will kill anyone who attacks my husband again. Before he can be hurt.

    • Bungee

As much of a fan of firearms I am not, I can’t say that I blame you for making whatever preparations necessary to protect yourself and your husband.

  • Michael Rush

it’s good that it’s on video , but the people with their cell phones only interested in recording , moving in for the close – up , are a little sickening .

  • JCF

Sheeeit! There’d been a fracas for 45+ seconds already, people were surrounding the homophobic mofo, and they STILL couldn’t stop the @sshole from swinging a chair?!

  • Blake Jordan

Exactly what TP wants, but he will freak out if you call the FRC a hate organization still…

  • Paul Forsyth

I was bashed in the mid 90s. It is a hard thing to say what you would do and how it makes you feel after. Growing up white and male I never knew what it was like to be treated like this, even though I was gay.
Then one night on my way home after being out drinking with friends a van full of 5 guys ambushes me and kicks the crap out of me. I spent the night in hospital and I was so confused. I did not even tell my friends or family what happened. (Something I would now totally do) I was embarrassed and humiliated which I now know is what they wanted me to feel.
All this to say. I feel for these guys and this made me cry again. For them. For me. And for all the bigoted assholes still out there.

It’s time to meet them on their playing field. LGBQTs, it’s time to start bearing loaded arms.

  • AbnerBha

Unsure as we don’t know what happened before the 2 were hit, but there may have been provocation by the 2 gays in that the 2 gays could have been harassing the customer to start a fight and the man reacted. Yes, hitting with a chair over the head is excess force (assault & battery) but if it is true the 2 gays were harassing the man by deliberately spilling the man’s drinks, then the man had a right to stop the harassment by the gays, though using a chair is excess. In self-defense, you can use only reasonable & not excess force. Of course the gays will say that they were innocent victims of unprovoked attack, but that is their side of story which may or may not be true.

When I read a gay (transexuals are mutilated gays/lesbians and they must abolish sex changes) bashing case in the news, I wonder what the view is of the journalist reporting this on homosexuality/lesbianism. I also wonder if the journalist is a homosexual or lesbian and if so, are they setting aside their bias and reporting the news with no problems. I do not trust news that I get from Daily Kos or the Huffington Post on their coverage of gay bashing cases because they predictably make the homosexual look like an innocent victim no matter what wrong the gay does.

Gay bashing victims will face the same public opinion court as gay bashers. If there are ugly truths about a homosexual which the media omits as most did with Methew Wayne Shepard, then we will use our free speech rights to tell the ugly truths about the homosexual even if others dislike it. & there is nothing any1 can do to legally stop us from telling the ugly truths. Gay bashing victims will face the public opinion court as gay bashers do and ugly truths will be told about a homosexual if it’s found though it offends homosexual groups.

    • Halloween_Jack

Do you have even the slightest awareness of what this blog is all about?

      • AbnerBha

I know this is a pro-gay blog & I’m an exception here with an anti-gay view. Just saying that we know some of the case facts& that while this seems excess force, if it’s true that there was provocation by the victims, then that must be regarded. If a customer in a restaurant goes up to another customer & deliberately spills drinks & food on them, after which the other customer reacts violently, then that customer is reacting to harassment the other customer had no right to do. If it’s true the 2 gays in this video were bad customers (we don’t know if the 2 gays in this video were drunk) who deliberately spilled the man’s drinks on him after which the man hit them with a chair, then while that is excess force, the man did react to abuse that the 2 gays had no right to do.

ANY assault and battery or murder cases including gay bashing cases, unless there is a plea bargain (which happens in most criminal cases) juries decide after hearing both prosecutor and defense lawyer. Juries decide what is reasonable & excess because each case is different and must be judged individually. As known with murder cases, there is Murder 1, Murder 2 and Manslaughter which is a jury topic. If a defense lawyer in a gay bashing case wants to raise a crime the gay did such as harassment, indecent exposure, etc. before man reacted violently, then that must be regarded in deciding verdict. Prosecutors can argue why they think it was excess force and defense lawyer can argue why it was justified force. Jury decides if it’s justified or excess force. A jury can acquit or if they convict, they can convict a person on lesser charge.

  • Peter

The perpetrator of this crime and his accomplices walked out of the establishment, which means they had paid the bill. ? How was that bill paid? A credit card? If so, there is your lead. Find out how that bill was paid, Was there a waiting list? under what name were they seated? The business needs to cooperate w the authorities. businesses need to have security in their restaurants, not a bouncer, not a another crazy person watching over the safety of the customers, this is happening too often and not only with the LGBT comm. people think they can kick anybodies ass and get away with it, the man that did this doesnt have a clue what’s in store for him.
