Homocon Guy Benson: I Recognize That I Stand Of The Shoulders Of Leftist Gays

Yesterday Townhall political editor and Fox News commentator Guy Benson came out in an upcoming book. He then appeared on Megyn Kelly’s show where he said this:

“I just want to acknowledge, quickly, that I recognize that I am so fortunate to live in a country and an era where we can be having this exact kind conversation on national television. And I recognize that a lot of that is due to the fact that I’m standing of the shoulders of people who’ve worked very hard for a very long time, who probably don’t share my political persuasion. So I just want to give them some credit in this. But I think when that crosses some threshold into punishing and purging dissenters and trying to exact punishments on people for not agreeing, that is not what we should be about in this country. I think we should be better than that in this country.”

Townhall, it must be pointed out, is one of the most viciously anti-gay sites in all of Teabagistan and regularly publishes columns from the likes of Matt Barber and other anti-gay hate group leaders.

  • Todd20036

You know Benson, when most people find themselves in a hole, they stop digging.

    Just saying.

    • Gustav2

From what he makes in book sales maybe he can buy Out NYC at the bankruptcy sale.

      • LovesIrony

        or a pack of gum

    • RaygunsGoZap

Awwww, baby, when I find myself in a hole, I get a good grip on the back on his neck and ride, ride, ride into the sunset.

      • Todd20036

You are a perverted soul. Come sit by (on) me.

      • David Ehrenstein

When Guy Benson finds himself in a Glory Hole he just keeps on sucking. After all the cock in his mouth may belong to an important Republican

    • Amanda B. Rekendwith

He’s a graduate of the Ian Reisner public speaking course.

  • Ninja0980

In other words, since others have done the hard work and risked it all, I can come out now and reap the benefits of it.
I’ll tell you what I told my former friend’s homocon husband.
Take the silver spoon you were born with and stuff it where the sun don’t shine.

    • BearEyes

in rethuglican parlance, he’s a “taker”. let others do the work and the heavy lifting

      • Drew2U

Nah, that just makes him a conservative.

        • TheManicMechanic

          A typical homocon.

    • boston11

I thought the point of fighting for gay rights was so that all gays could have them – not just gay Democrats.

      • Ninja0980

It is but homocons like Guy have done nothing to help us get them and now want to lecture those who have.

        • bkmn

And they don’t care about things like ENDA since they have their nest egg.

        • boston11

How is he lecturing us? Sounds like he is acknowledging that gay liberals are the ones who got us here.

          • sherman

            “punishing and purging dissenters”

          • robirob

… and that there is some kind of witchhunt for conservative gay guys like him.

His comment is no different than the common “I am no homophobe, but … / I am gay and even I think …” anti gay / self loathing / quisling rethoric.

          • boston11

Read the comments. Seems like his description of a witch hunt is very accurate.

          • robirob

Oh please, all he is is an entitled brat playing the conservative victim card because some people have the audacity not to agree with him.

        • IamM

And while obstructing and undermining the progress that benefits them the same as anyone else.

      • Blake Jordan

But he wants to limit the rights of LGBTs… by giving people a (religious) right to discriminate against LGBTs… why should it only be the wedding industry that is allowed to refuse service, why is only their “deeply held religious belief” valid… and so it will be expanded to all “private sector” religionists…

  • TampaZeke

Perhaps he might see things differently once he’s out of diapers.

    • Todd20036

If not, Vitter can always hook him up

      • Ed Burrow

Speaking of Vitter…guess who endorsed him. Santorum. Yup. Way to go Louisiana πŸ™

        • Todd20036

Actually, Santorum endorsing Diaper Man does have a certain logic to it.

  • greenmanTN

Yes, you ARE standing on their shoulders, Guy. All gay people today are. The real question here is why YOU are using that privileged position to take a dump on those who lifted you up?

    • gaymex

I don’t want him on my fucking shoulders–or anywhere near me. What a sellout.

    • Nic Peterson

How nice of him for the shout out to his peeps. Commenting on FOX and writing Townhall doesn’t line up with standing on the shoulders of those that have fought his battles.

He’s standing on our collective neck.

      A POX on his house!

    • Corey

Time to move forward as a sus – sus ciety.

  • Michael

“Punishing dissenters?” As in ripping apart loving gay families, not allowing us to marry or adopt and firing us from our jobs as punishment for not being heterosexual?

    • Drew2U

Look lets face it–every time we become intolerant of intolerance jesus kills a puppy. It’s right there in the bible.

  • Drew2U

…He’ll thank us a little more once he loses his townhall and fox gigs. Watch.

    • Todd20036

House faggots have to veer very far to the right or they lose their gigs.
Either way, he will remain as reviled as Mehlman in our community

      • The Milkman

Oh honey no. This POS will fall off the radar in two weeks. Mehlman will stand as the biggest traitor since Roy Cohn.

        • Todd20036

Well, that’s true. Benson never had the opportunity to do the damage Mehlman did

          • theSaint

…and I suspect his party will limit his future political aspirations ta’ boot.

  • JoyZeeBoy

True Story: the summer of 1995, after the Republicans under Newt Gingrich swept into Congress. I was at the Blue Moon in Rehoboth Beach one night when an adorable twink sidled up to me and batted his baby blues at me: “Hi!” he said. “My name is such-and-such and I just moved to DC with Congresscritter So-and-So … [pause] and I believe in the Contract with America” he beamed. To which I responded, “Get away from me, you traitor.” I’m pretty sure he learned an important lesson that weekend. A gay bar is not a good place to advertise your political leanings if you hope to get laid.

    • Todd20036

Especially if those leanings include people who want to keep us as second class citizens.
My guess is if he were on Clinton’s team, he’d have fared better.

    • gaymex

You might have missed the opportunity to give him a good old fashioned conversion fuck.

      • JoyZeeBoy

        I’m no evangelical.

        • gaymex

I was hoping that the sex would have been so great that he would have converted to your side from the joy of the experience.

    • DN

What makes me chuckle about your story is that before I moved to DC, I would’ve thought, “yeah right – as if someone would open a conversation that way.”

It took less than three months for me to learn that what you wrote is not only plausible, but entirely believable.

I was at a party once and this young lady says to her friend, “meet my boyfriend – he works for Senator so-and-so!” Not, “isn’t he dreamy?” Not, “check out his guns.” And especially not anything about his wonderful personality.

The trick, which took a loooong time for me, was to find the locals.

      • JoyZeeBoy

I’ve known too many people over the years who defined themselves by how much power they wielded or how much shit they owned. They were the biggest losers I’d ever met. It’s amazing how an utter lack of self-esteem will drive people to pursue ridiculous goals.

        • RaygunsGoZap

Different coast, similar theme: I avoided LA for years based on what in expected to encounter vis a vis Walking Stereotypes. Eventually an old flame moved there to work as a PA for NBC and I spent a long weekend visiting. And the bar scene was full of – not all, but enough – just the most laughably vapid dudes who wanted to know if I was in the biz, what I did for work (shock all around that it was white collar), what kind of car I drove (none! at the time) and all while being dismissive or rude to my buddy. And he was the one with all the answers they wanted!

      • uhhuhh

Ah, best of all is when the interns hit town. Suddenly, the Metro is full of oneupsman stories: “I got to empty the senator’s bedpan!” lol. They have no clue how far removed from actual power they are.

    • CottonBlimp

I used to work at a gay cruise joint, and during the 2012 election, I had a dude come in with a huge “McCain/Palin” logo on his chest. I really hoped he didn’t get laid, but I didn’t say anything – he had a look in his face like he wanted me to validate his homocon martyr complex.

      • But don’t dare call them self-loathing! LOL

      • uhhuhh

They ALL want their homocon martyr complex validated!

        • CottonBlimp

It works just like validating parking. He gets his homocon ticket stamped every time someone reminds him he’s a fucking moron.

  • j.martindale

We aren’t punishing dissenters. We are reviling traitors who ally themselves with our sworn enemies–people who fight to discriminate against us, and whose politics is nothing but greed and violence on a personal and national basis.

    • IamM

His side calls it ‘punishing dissent’ when we insist on legal equality, instead of accepting second class status.

      • Jamie Brewer

My blood is boiling and I could not make it half way through his vile interview. At my age I remember the horrors and alienation of the early days of AIDS. I remember the Act Up demonstrators and activists who laid the groundwork for this piece of shit to have the freedom he now feels is due him with no strings attached. How can he not realize those right would just as soon he be exterminated. That’s nice Guy Benson, be a good lap dog for the Terabaggers, you have burned your bridges to those who matter.

        • Rand503

Well said. I wasn’t out in the 80s, to my everlasting regret, and so I missed all the good and bad that happened then. But I deeply respect what “my people” had to go through. Many thanks to you.

This idiot, though, doesn’t realize what all his readers really think of him. Makes me sad and angry all at the same time.

        • For those too young you can see a (barely) fictionalized account in The Normal Heart or Longtime Companion and excellent documentaries like How to Survive a Plague or We Were Here. If you are gay and aren’t old enough to remember those times, you should know at least three of those.

        • gaymex

I can barely deal with remembering how horrible it was when I was a volunteer for an aids hotline in the early 80s. I would go home every night crying from the pain of the people I had talked to. Everyone was terrified. Every single person I had known 10 years earlier had died. Every one of them.
This boy doesn’t understand anything about the work that went on before he was able to enjoy his gay “lifestyle” with his republican friends.

          • George Washington

Amen to that. He is dancing on the graves of gay liberals who put their lives on the line and fought for our rights so he can be who he is today. He says he “supposes” the left could be given “some” credit for our progress. Some credit???!!! How about 100% of the credit??

    • RLK2

Agreed. Why should one tolerate intolerance? And it is not free speech, it is hate speech. Thus, my free speech allows me to react to it. Silence is not going to happen bub!

      • it is not a violation of someone’s free speech to denounce what they said, contradict it or criticize it. I don’t know what’s so hard about that for teabaggers to understand.

  • MDB

Sorry Guy, you really “came out” to no one. All you have accomplished is publicly stating that you have been, and remain, a little house-faggot for Teabagistan. You are without honor or character.

    • Billanddogs

Reading the headline, I wanted to cut him some slack. Then I read and watched more, learning that he is a rotten, sleazy, little liar and hate-monger. May his own words condemn him.

    • RLK2

“Uncle Gay” is a good term.

  • skeptical_inquirer

This is something rich entitled people don’t get. They can vote and pimp who they want; but they’re not entitled to ripping other people off and having those same people LIKE them. It reminds me of how dictators really want to believe they are loved and worshiped while starving and beating the population.

  • Pete

This guy is a clueless narcissist.

    • IamM

That’s probably the nicest thing to be said about him.

      • Amanda B. Rekendwith

        I’m thinking he’s still a sucker for “My, what a big…..portfolio….you have.”

    • Stev84

Same with most other homocons. Selfishness is their defining characteristic.

  • Ninja0980

If you want to see what purging is like Guy, why don’t you look up what has happened to any Republican who has dared to support our rights in any way shape or form.
Here in NY, all four State Senate Republicans who voted for gay marriage are now gone.
Anyone running on a Republican ticket here in NY who dares to refuse to sign a pledge to repeal gay marriage will have their endorsement yanked or have a challenger run against them to split the vote and ensure they don’t win.
And what they will be subjected to a brutal and vicious smear campaign if they refuse to back down.
Simply look at what happened to Dede Scozzafava in upstate NY for an example of that or Richard Hanna now.
Even in MA, Charlie Baker was attacked for daring to support gay marriage and his brother.
It’s the same story all around, any Republican who supports us in any way shape or form is purged.
But as with other homocons, you’ll simply attack our side while refusing to call out your own.
You are a POS, simple as that.

  • Blake Jordan

Does this tool live in a town / city / state with equal protections (and rights) for LGBTs, would he be okay if his area carved out those religious freedoms he wants, and businesses started using them against him?

  • Robert

Is there a word for a gay “Uncle Tom”???

    • TommyTune

I still like “Aunt Tammy” after Tammy Bruce. It works equally well for both quisling gays and lesbians.

    • TJay229

I (personally) don’t like using “Uncle Tom” to describe “Them/Those” homos. If you read Uncle Remus, you’d see why.

And Yes, I know that the phrase took on a new meaning…blah blah blah… Still, it’s original meaning sits TO ME.

      I prefer “Quisling”
      It’s 100% true for “Them/Those” Gay Cons.

      • Robert

        Thanks for tip…:)

        • stuckinthewoods

yes, I think TJay is referring to the Stowe character, a slave beaten to death for refusing to betray two escaped female slaves.

My mom went from a single mom with 4 kids, working under the table as a bartender, collecting food stamps and voting Dem. She married a good man who had managed his money well. To get married, she had to become Catholic! She also became a GOP!
She has completely forgotten what it’s like to be poor and the issues we face.

      • gaymex

That’s rough when it happens in your own family. I guess that’s why so many of us leave home early…if not physically, at least psychologically.

    • I have known a lot of very well off people in my life and they aren’t all like that. A good many are quite generous with charities and even with their time. And they tend not to make a big deal out of it either. So it’s not the money that makes them that way. They’d be shits even if they were flat broke!

  • TommyTune

When Megyn Kelly quoted the book in question, saying “the Left is using fake outrage to silence their opponents” I almost spit out my morning coffee laughing. Like they on the Right don’t do that every minute of every day??? Talk about the pot calling the kettle black!

  • Michael Rush

the trend you will see in the coming years is that narrow minded conservatives are less intelligent than everyone else but insist that their rigid viewpoints are correct . it’s always been that way but now more people are seeing / sensing it ( hopefully always a majority from now on ) it wouldn’t be terrible for conservative small mindedness to die out .

    • robirob

Life inside the conservative Fox News media bubble cannot be sustained for long. The world moves on and those narrow minded conservatives in their Fox News media bubble either are left behind or find a way to trail along which means they have to leave the bubble and expose themselves to all those alternative expanding beliefs and adapt.

It sickens me, it truly does.

    • RaygunsGoZap

I find relief in two things:

      A. Long-term relationships require a good deal of curiosity, empathy, humility, self awareness and honest communication. These are not their strong points.
      B. I dig down deep into my psychic power core and fling the vilest, darkest curse upon them and then forget about them.

      • Ninja0980

Wish I could agree with A but the asshat and my former buddy have been a couple almost as long as the hubby and I have been.

        • RaygunsGoZap

Well, when I sat down and told my husband I was divorcing him because A wasn’t happening I did acknowledge that I loved him enough and was comfortable enough in our mutual and hidden misery to do it for another 50 years. Maybe they’re doing that?

Asking a Gay person to “tolerate” a homophobe is like asking a Jew to tolerate nazism, or a pacifist to tolerate a war mongerer, or a Royalist to tolerate a Republican. You can only have one or the other, you can’t have both. Bigotry and supremacy deserves to be destroyed.

    • rextrek1

If you can’t see the crappy way the right treats gays and not have the mental capacity to explore if the right also abuses other groups, you’re a shameful excuse for human.

Well, isn’t that just so fucking nice of him. Some credit? If they hadn’t fought against conservatives you wouldn’t have your fucking job. He will never admit it that it was conservative values that would harm him.

  • Bill_Perdue

Democrats and liberals are no more part of the left than conservatives and Republicans.

Leftists will pass a cleaned up ENDA or a CRA. Democrats and republicans refuse to do that when there’s even the slightest chance it’ll be enacted.

    • Reality.Bites

Hard to be part of the left when the only person in the world who passes Bill Perdue’s purity test is Bill Perdue.

      • Bill_Perdue

Democrats and banksters like you are not part of the Left, but the hundred thousand plus who voted for $15.00 an hour, for union rights and against righting wing shills for the rich are certainty leftist.

  • I give him a little credit for being more perceptive about how we got to this place in history than other homocons. I still don’t get his conservatism. I think I’d be a liberal even if I were straight. I’d like to fuck some sense into him.

  • JamesStone

It’s okay to be a German Jew and support the Nazi Party!!! German Jews are “free thinkers!”

    • Chucktech

Yeah, I caught that “free thinker” moniker he gave himself. Free Thinker is a euphemism atheists use when they don’t want to excite the christian sheep they happen to be talking to.

  • hahvM

for you guy. Like absolutely none.
Guy is like those guys in normal heart who were closeted and actively worked against their gay peers.

  • DN

Ben Shapiro wrote the exact same book a few years ago (not linking it because… ew… Ben Shapiro).

Is this the right wing’s new thing? Get people to buy the same book over and over, but this time written by a house faggot? Next it’ll be a black man who pines for slavery.

  • Ginger Snap

Don’t try to project you hatred of yourself and love of money on me. I don’t hate you I hate that you support a political party that hates us. Stop apologizing out the side of your mouth and admit you are a greedy self hater.

    • Ninja0980

I don’t think he is a self hater but he is a greedy sob.

      • Ginger Snap

I believe there is always some kind of self hate that comes with greed.

  • Jeffrey

He stands on the shoulders of gay leftists, while attempting to stand on the necks of the rest of us. Fuck off you little pischer.

  • SFBruce

    Too little, too late.

  • theSaint

“I think we should be better than that in this country”… many of us are.

  • Jeffrey

I don’t mind at all when someone has a privileged upbringing, I know lots of people who did. Many of us here did, just in the fact that we were born in places where you can’t be hanged for being gay. However, when someone is born to privilege and refuses to acknowledge that he is or how much that privilege has altered his life it makes me furious. He has the flat charm-free personality that denotes no life struggle. Life has not kicked him in the balls, yet. Right now all I hear is upper middle class privilege and “why wasn’t everyone else smart enough to be born well off and white?”

  • DN

Haha – I turned off The Smiths’ “The Boy With the Thorn in his Side” to watch the video πŸ™‚

Every single point he made about him having the freedom to dissent from the rest of the so-called hive mind… Is a point that refutes the entire premise of his book! If we’re not allowed to have the freedom to call him out on his bullshit, then that’s just as shitty (I would argue worse) than what’s allegedly being done to women and gays who don’t fit the mold that he and his co-author have invented.

Boy with the thorn in his side, indeed…

  • Ninja0980

Just wait until he starts dating (trust me, there will be dates for him.)
He’ll find out really quick that “support” he has will go up in flames.

    • Michael Senesac

Just wait until he wants to get gay married.

      • Ninja0980

Indeed, many of his “friends” won’t be showing up for that.

  • Bj Lincoln

You are free to think and speak anything you want. That said…….you are a bootlicking twit. If you think enacting laws against other LGBT people is a good thing, then you are the enemy. If she thinks laws keeping women from taking care of themselves and equal pay, then she is the enemy.
    They both make me sick.

    • Ninja0980

      Just look at him.
That is a upper class jerk who will never have to worry about being denied service for anything.
And since he doesn’t have to worry about that, why should he care about us common folk?

      • Bj Lincoln

Young, white, male, well off and probably ‘Christian’.

  • TreGibbs

Have your viewpoints and political leanings. When you align yourself with radical bigots who want to go against the US Constitution and deny equal protections for an entire segment of the population, then this is not a simple matter of “disagreeing”.

  • jomicur

Now we know how Victor Frankenstein felt.

  • 2karmanot

“Standing ‘off’ their shoulders”? Must be cut on the bias then.

  • David Ehrenstein

Guy Benson is the Even More Evil Twin of “Bob Benson” of “Mad Men”

  • Toasterlad

They deserve ALL of the credit, not some, you asshole. And who is “punishing” you? I have literally made no changes to my routine since your bombshell announcement. I have never watched your show, and I plan to continue to never watch your show. I suspect you’ll find that’s true of nearly the entire gay community. And any gay person who’s been watching Fox News who’s going to stop because you came out has far, far bigger problems than you do.

  • uhhuhh

This little asshole can go fuck himself.

  • Rich Farias

I think we can all agree that nobody will ever have sex with Guy Benson from this point forward.

    • Davester

Aaron Schlock probably already has him on speed dial.

    • noni

Don’t kid yourself. The Log Cabin Republican group is full of self loathers ready for Guy.

  • canoebum

“punishing and purging dissenters”? No, Guy. What you’re doing is called “giving aid and comfort to the enemy”. If you think being a kiss-up to the right wing would stop them from loading you into a boxcar along with all the rest of us, you’re sadly deluded.

  • paganguy

Standing on their shoulders and kicking them in the face.

  • RLK2

Here is a reality check for you Guy. They still hate you because you are gay.

  • millers3888

I am glad Benson has come out. As a gay man, it is a hard thing, and as a gay conservative, it must be even harder. Just because we disagree on politics doesn’t mean I hate him. We can debate with Townhall about gay marriage without banning Benson from the LGBT community. We should welcome someone different. And for the record, has Benson actually actively tried to stop gays from marrying? Giving him grief for being the editor of Townhall is like a Conservative giving a Christian HuffPo editor grief for being a “sellout” to HuffPo.

    • uhhuhh

      Oh whatever!

Yes, every time he promotes an anti-gay bigot for political office, he is actively trying to stop gays from marrying. He doesn’t get to elect just the non-gay positions of a politician. And Townhall is an egregiously anti-gay cesspool.

He is a sellout. He doesn’t get to undermine the rights of the rest of us and expect a big welcome.

      • millers3888

Clearly he has not received a welcome. Quite the opposite. I really couldn’t care less since I don’t know the guy, but if we’re going to shun every gay Republican I think that’s wrong.

        • Davester

OK…you can limit your shunning to the ones who have until now committed their life to working for the core anti-gay parts of the American right wing, as this clown has.
“Townhall, it must be pointed out, is one of the most viciously anti-gay sites in all of Teabagistan”

          • millers3888

I’m not defending his past employment, I’m just not about to tar and feather the guy.

        • uhhuhh

Funny how treason tends to make one unpopular among the people you screw over, isn’t it?

You’re welcome to go hug him and tell him it’s okay that he subverts our rights. That’s what he wants–to be able to act with complete disregard for gays and never face any personal consequences for it. That’s why he’s now in high victim mode. Trouble is it’s not okay to act with complete disregard for gays. He has to choose, and he’s clearly chosen. Next will be using his sexual identity to defend and excuse bigots when any of us criticizes them. He’s already started that Uncle Tom routine.

    • Davester

“And for the record, has Benson actually actively tried to stop gays from marrying?”

Yes – good God you need to read more carefully…he worked for Sandy Rios for 4 years.

    • RudigerVT

Clearly you don’t quite understand the house-darkie mentality.

      • millers3888

Clearly if you are gay and don’t think the “correct” way, you are branded a “traitor”.

        • RudigerVT

He’s not branded. His ideas are derided and discarded and discredited because they’re just not very persuasive. It’s too bad he was so poorly educated. And it’s too bad he never had somebody of, say, Bill Buckley’s intellectual heft to pull him back from the edge. Because he’s a word salad of wilted lettuce and rotten tomatoes.

          But thanks for trying.

        • RudigerVT

Your commenting history is private? Grow up. Fuck off. Go away.

        • RudigerVT

Unusually inept concern trolling. But whatever.

        • noni

          You’re not a traitor.

You’re just the run of the mill village idiot.

  • RCChicago

And another thing, good luck getting a date. The pool of possibilities would make a kiddie one look like the Titanic.

    • noni

The Log Cabin Republicans have a cadre of self loathers that he can date. There are plenty of Larry Craig’s in the Republican Party that know sex as behind a gloryhole only.

  • Ogre Magi

    Probably a christian

    • Davester

Well, the fake sort who claim to be Christian but really aren’t. (95% of them or so)

      • joe ho

you mean that 95% of christians aren’t really christian? can you explain?

    • customartist

      Is there any doubt?

  • Randy

“Some credit?” Not just an asshole, a flaming asshole.

  • countervail

How much do you want to bet he’s one of the anonymous bloggers on gaypatriot.net?

  • What a fucking idiot!

  • Michael Hampton

His “shout out” falls on deaf ears here. If you are actively working against the things that you take for granted coming from LGBT activists, then you shouldn’t expect people in our community to forgive you. I sure won’t.

    • customartist

      Me neither

  • Claude Jacques Bonhomme
  • Douglas

He says he is not about one issue (the gay). My liberal friends aren’t either. We are pro-woman, pro-choice, anti ‘ racist, pro-environment, anti-war, pro-education for all, pro healthcare, for taxing the rich and helping the poor. For him to accuse us about being one issue voters is just plain arrogance on his part. Get off the shoulders of brave people and get back in your closet.
And for Megyn Kelly to say ” you are in a safe place here” after her attacking many gay and pro-am guests on her show just shows the level of hypocrisy she and Fox news perpetuate.

  • noni

Sad to watch the leadership of the LGBT Community ceded to the A List gays the likes of Guy Benson, Ian Reisner, Mati Weturpants, Ken Mehlman, and Kalman Sporn.

  • noni

Some hunky gay guy should pick him up at a gay bar and then kiss and tell us just what a mess he really is.

  • George Washington

He says he “supposes ” the left should be given some credit. for our progress. How about ALL the credit?? It’s gay liberals who have turned things around for gay people from the 1960’s to present.
