Due to flaccid competition Fifty Shades Of Grey stayed at #1 this weekend despite a 73% drop in domestic admissions. The real story, however, remains overseas where the film continues to break box office records, pushing its worldwide gross to $410M. American Sniper finished sixth in its eighth week of domestic release, with a global gross now standing at $406M. As I noted last week, conservative sites are hotly following the performance of both films, as one is just another example of perverted leftism (or something) and the other a shining tale of true red, white, and blue patriotism. Should American Sniper take any Oscars tonight, you can expect lots of Twitter taunting. Should it not win, well, that’s just because Hollywood is full of communists.
