Pope Francis: Transgender People Destroy God’s Creation Like Nuclear Weapons

“Let’s think of the nuclear arms, of the possibility to annihilate in a few instants a very high number of human beings.  Let’s think also of genetic manipulation, of the manipulation of life, or of the gender theory, that does not recognize the order of creation. With this attitude, man commits a new sin, that against God the Creator. The true custody of creation does not have anything to do with the ideologies that consider man like an accident, like a problem to eliminate. God has placed man and woman and the summit of creation and has entrusted them with the earth. The design of the Creator is written in nature.” – Pope Francis, in an interview with Italian journalists.

    Fuck you douche pope.

    • zhera

      Oooh, that’s a great one!

    • gaymex

While my sentiments are with your post. The latin root of the word “religion” is in dispute…

      • oikos

        Thanks for sharing this. 🙂

      • Toasterlad

The origin may be in dispute, but the definition is spot on.

    • Gerry Fisher

Douche Pope. I like it. 🙂 Although it’s redundant.

I see now why they make him wear a dunce cap.

I thought he copied it from the Grand Wizard?

Or vice versa – – same package, different dress.

        • grada3784

Not quite. Pope Sybil’s gear doesn’t come with a matching mask with eyeslits.

Thank you to the poster Yalma Cuder Zicci who came up with the Pope Sybil. It is so appropriate.

  • No. Moral. Authority. Whatsoever.

    • Gigi

My born again Christian family members believe that the Pope is the anti-Christ. I think they might be on to something.

      • Jmdintpa

down south?thats where i grew up and they all preach that on the down low in the protestant denominations down south. jews killed jesus, blacks are inferior and the pope is the anti christ…

        • Gigi

They think that in Canada as well. There’re just fewer of them here.

      • Mark

I thought that was President Obama’s role, or is that the 7th horseman of the apocalypse? I always get those two mixed up.

        • oikos

          Can’t he be both? 🙂

          • Mark

            Ooooo multi-tasking – love it!

        • Paula

Wait! I thought he was King of the Goblins?

        • grada3784

No. Nowadays, Obama is the 7th king. Just one in a line of pre-cursors.

      • GuestPoster

LoL. And Bergoglio most likely thinks that your “born again Christian family” is going to be burning in Hell for all eternity because they haven’t bent their knee and accepted the one true faith.

      • StraightGrandmother

        That is funny gigi

    • GuestPoster

Well, no duuuuuuh. It’s the fucking Catholic church. That should have been self evident the minute it came out that they covered up the rape of children by priests employees of the church.

      • grada3784

That’s plain silly. Everybody knows the Catholic Church is the Great Whore.

  • Gigi

One step forward, 10 steps back.

    • GuestPoster

No steps forward and none back in fact. It’s the same Catholic church as always. It simply amazes me that everyone fell for the kinder, gentler Catholic church schtick that Bergoglio presented early in his career as CEO Supreme Pontiff™.

      • Gigi

The RCC establishment might not have changed much in the past 1000 years, but Catholics have. Many don’t pay much attention to the Pope’s blathering, and they support gay rights and SSM. The problem is that they don’t say anything when either he or one of his minions makes such hateful statements.

        • Amanda B. Rekendwith

Yet if they continue to put dollars on the collection plate, they aid and abet all of the horrifics whether they claim to agree or not.

          • clay

In the US, they’re putting much less in the collection plate than 15 years ago. Catholic Charities and individual missions are still taking it in, but the dioceses are getting squeezed.

      • StraightGrandmother

I Never fell for this Pope, never.
I read what Cardinal Dolan said in Rome after a big Cardinal meeting the Pope had called about 6 months after the Pope was elected. Dolan said that the Cardinals should KEEP GOING AND NOT CHANGE their public policy work re:gays.
The bottom line is that this pope is trying to straddle a line he cannot straddle, out of one side of his mouth we hear, “Who am I to judge” while on the other side of his mouth we hear him telling his Cardinals, “Keep going, keep fighting the gays politically.” Make no mistake his Humanum Conference in November (was it October?) was his trumpet call to fight the gays politically AND to rally other religions to join in with him.

        • GuestPoster

I would simply say that Bergoglio is speaking with a forked tongue and really doesn’t believe any of this “kinder and gentler Catholic church” shit he was spouting early in his career as CEO of the largest, most corrupt organization existing in the world today. (And you don’t get to that point by being a nice person. In any organization.)

The bottom line is that Bergoglio was nothing more than a clever PR maneuver by the Princes of the Church(1) to try and present a “kinder and gentler” Catholic church after the disasterous reign of Ratzinger.

It worked for a while. But now we’re seeing the true Bergoglio. And it ain’t pretty. >:-(

          (1) That’s the Cardinals. The true power in the church and the ones who will never allow it to change because they simply cannot relinquish the power and authority they have garnered.

      3) when people are beaten up…when trans people die (I hope and pray not, but words like this will influence the unbalanced and vicious) will the Roman Catholic Church say one fucking word? Nah. and if they do, it will just be empty words.

      • StraightGrandmother

Reguaring your point 2a, how do you feel about Speaker of the House John Boehner inviting this Pope to address a joint session of Congress this summer (maybe it is the fall, I forget which)? How does that make you feel being an American and the Pope comparing people who are transgender to a nuclear bomb?

        • 2patricius2

I don’t think any leader of a religion should be invited to address a joint session of Congress.

Oh my, they really did pick Putin. I really don’t get out much.

        • What the hell? Why on earth did the Advocate pick Putin to be on their cover?

          • David Walker

They all got off on the picture of him shirtless and riding a horse. I think they have an enbiggened copy of it in their men’s room (I’m pretty sure they don’t have gender neutral restrooms). That picture was burned into my brain, but, on the good side, so was the picture of Obama in his swimwear.

I think they realized they’d made a mistake putting Francis on the cover the previous year and they’re now trying to pretend that “Person of the Year” isn’t necessarily an accolade.

They should have just written a correction and an apology.

        • Gerry Fisher

To be fair, they put a Hitler mustache on Putin for their cover. But still!

“The design of the Creator is written in nature.”

And your proof of this is what? You’ve had thousands of years to produce even the tiniest shred of evidence for this or any so-called god and yet nothing. You have nothing but a deeply flawed and sadistic text written by ancient men decades after this Christ guy was supposedly here. And even if you could prove that Christ did live it still doesn’t provide an ounce of evidence that a god exists.

    • Bad Tom

This would work better if they actually studied nature.

  • medaka

The design of the Creator is written in nature.

Which is why the Creator is ok with giving children cancer.

  • Jessi

  • HomerTh

Wonder how many times Brian Brown ejaculated after reading this?

    • Pete

Horrible thought about Brian Brown. makes me think of a pig squealing in the shit.

  • lymis

Why is it that EVERYONE who claims that you can determine the will of the Creator by examining what’s “written in nature” then invariably turns around and completely ignores what’s actually happening in nature?

If the design of the Creator is what’s written in nature, then that design, and therefore God’s will, includes same-sex pairings, multiple individual bondings, physically intersexed individuals, and entire species that go about sex and reproduction in radically different ways. The only reason we can’t extend that to things like whether there are animals that experience being transgender is that they can’t tell us about their inner experience. There’s no reason to believe they don’t exist.

If there IS a message in God’s Creation, that message is diversity and wildly exuberant variation. Gay, bi and transgender individuals ARE natural, and therefore, a part of God’s plan – or else your entire claim is mere self-serving twaddle.

To claim that you’re taking your cues from nature and then utterly discounting everything in nature that doesn’t fit tidily into your preconceived notions is at best illegitimate as either science or morality, but at worst, it’s the basis of genocides, oppression, and the ongoing deliberate harm to your fellow human beings.

    • Oh’behr

      Great post. Thank you.

IRRC, (from HS Biology), when this guy

(the “father” of taxonomy, i.e. “Kingdom, Phylum, Class, Order, Family, Genus, Species) went to classify certain organisms, they fit neither entirely in either the “Plant” or “Animal” Kingdoms. He just ignored them.

The point is, not everything always fits into one man-made “category” or another. Nature is as Nature does. You’d think someone who is supposed to be as “educated” as Franny would know this. But, no. Let’s keep on hating. Thanks, Franny. Never change. I know you won’t.

    • CPT_Doom

Remember also some amphibians can change gender – it was a key plot point in “Jurassic Park,” because the geneticists filled in the “gaps” in dino DNA with amphibian copies, allowing the dinosaurs to also change genders and allow for reproduction.

      • IamM

Many kinds of fish do as well. And in some reptiles their sex is determined by the temperature their egg was incubated at.

            * Actually, I made that up on the spot. But it sounds really scientific, huh?

          • Regan DuCasse

And then there’s that unique aspect of male seahorses being the gestational parent of the babies.
And they are such beautiful things to behold too.
And how the platypus is the only mammal that lays eggs.
God indeed, didn’t want to be bored, nor have us be bored with EACH OTHER and nature around us.
Well, I DO have issues with stinging bugs, and the Jerusalem cricket and other forms of what seems like mutant insects.
            But hey….it’s a hell of a planet, ain’t it?

          • grada3784

A lot of male fish are really colorful, while females are drab.

            Think of guppies.

        • zhera

Yup, that’s true. And there are some creatures (can’t remember if it was an insect or reptile or mammal, probably not a mammal) that are one sex in the beginning of life and another sex later. That is their NATURAL way of life.

          • WildwoodGuy

Sole? Haddock? Flounder? I can’t remember!

          • Let’s just say the writers at Pixar set up the storyline so perfectly that if Nemo had not gotten lost, he’d have transitioned to Nema.

Mother gets eaten and all but the Father and one immature male get eaten. In Clown fish this exact scenario triggers the immature male to switch to female to ensure the survival of the species.

          • WildwoodGuy

Fascinating! I had no idea and had never heard of this.

          • FalinPerth

Actually, it’s the other way round for Clown fish.
Females are the bigger, stronger, aggressive, more dominant gender. Males are the weaker, smaller, submissive, younger fish. If the female dies, the biggest, most dominate male turns into the female (who then is the Alpha-leader of the group).
So Nemo should have ended up with two moms (one deceased).

That probably doesn’t play well for pope either…

(I used to live with a marine biologist and her Clown fish colony)

      • Stev84

Or species that only have one gender and reproduce through parthenogenesis. But still go through mating rituals.

        • WildwoodGuy

Earthworms? I think. And then there’s the amazing aphid which can lay fertile eggs through sometimes as many as four to six generations without mating again. Very odd stuff out there!

        • Regan DuCasse

I have faith in equal justice and opportunity. I have faith in genuine compassion, and acts of kindness.
It takes so little investment in these, with very generous returns.
The results are sometimes immediate, or at least, these results are enduring.
Unfortunately, regardless this is true, how many people who believe in A god of sometimes, have less faith in this, than they do in what they CAN’T see.
One can see love, and empathy in action, and take comfort in the result.

One doesn’t have to profess to A God or claim believe in one, as long as one’s actions reflect the aforementioned.
That’s why the commandment about how you treat another. Empathy is a better guiding principle than claimed piety.
It is usually where the most ethical decisions and actions come from.
But we see in action also, how many people of faith refuse to obey THAT commandment in their own lives.
I don’t EVER want to hear about one’s faith, while not living by example.

    • Regan DuCasse

Well, it was of course, the Church that ushered in the Dark Ages.
Many African, Asian and Native American cultures of course, accepted transgender men and women as a tempering bridge between the sexes. There is more of a factor that that increase civil and social harmony, than Islam or Christian based religion can or ever did understand.
Gender has been enforced, narrowly and brutally AGAINST nature.
And meanwhile, females suffer great threat from males, in every culture in the world BECAUSE of religious, or male theories on their entitlement to be dominant.

Gay and transgender individuals, offer all the mental, emotional, physical, intellectual and creative benefits to society, without all the sexual tension, built up from males being taught to dominate.
And distrust anyone who can’t or won’t fit the unrealistic ideals about gender.
And do so, as if this has had the most beneficial results, and is in harmony with nature.

Sometimes the way the anti gay keep idealizing the male/female dynamic makes me want to laugh, if their delusion weren’t so otherwise dangerous.
The stats on domestic violence, rape, sex trafficking and so on, belies their hubris about the “complimentariness”, of males and females.

      You are so right, lymis!
It’s obvious our individual uniqueness, the diversity and variation in all living, and some not living things is testament itself that NONE of us, and nothing is ‘meant’ to be the same.

    • “The only reason we can’t extend that to things like whether there are
animals that experience being transgender is that they can’t tell us
about their inner experience. There’s no reason to believe they don’t

Actually, we can. The brain has 20+ known sex-dimorphic sites and attributes. We know the genetic pathways that are followed for them to develop either “male” (-ish) or “female” (-ish). Researchers can (and do) induce those pathways in rats to go one way or the other by selectively blocking the gene expressions involved. The rats then act as expected, that is, as if their internal sense of sex does not match their genitals or reproductive organs, which develop independent of the brain during a different crucial development period.

This is just another example of how religion produces piles of toxic waste while occasionally producing baloney which some people may find tasty, even though it’s not healthy.

Contrast religion with science which produces piles of tangible results that educate us about the universe and improve our lives in a multitude of ways.

While scientific discoveries build upon each other over time, and allow self-correction in the process, religion never evolves in a meaningful way beyond its original myths and fantasies, and if anything, fabricates new myths and fantasies in an effort to reinforce the original ones.

Mother Nature is full of wonderful variations of gender, sex and reproduction. Stating “God” follows nature then restricts humans to one man and one woman in the missionary position for reproduction only is a lie. Thank Goddess I am Pagan!

  • Andrea Pizzocaro

Well. Actually Pope Francis didn’t talk about transgenders. English gay news websites say that, but look at this Italian website: (http://www.gay.it/news/Per-Bergoglio-la–teoria-gender–e-come-la-bomba-atomica). The title is “According to Bergoglio “Gender Theory” is like a Nuclear Bomb”.

You North-americans ought to learn what’s happening here Europe about the so-called “Gender Theory”.

      • Andrea Pizzocaro

When the Vatican talks about “gender theory” or “ideology of gender” you must read ‘Gender’ by Jutta Burgraaf and ‘Gender Ideology’ by Oscar Alzamora Revoredo. These two articles appeared for the first in the Lexicon (http://www.amazon.it/Lexicon-Termini-discussi-famiglia-questioni/dp/8810241096/ref=sr_1_25?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1424447744&sr=1-25&keywords=Etica).

You find via Google Books: Gender, Politics and the Catholic Church by Rebeka Jadranka Anic, in Gender and Theology

  • SFHarry

Is it “written in nature” that we were put here to point fingers at everyone else who is different and try to make their lives a living hell?

  • Fuck you, Frank. How dare you act like a moral authority while presiding over an organization that continues to shield rapists from prosecution. And fuck anyone who still support an organization, religious or otherwise, that does the same. Fuck you all. The bar for human decency is embarrassingly low and the RCC can’t even clear that? How dare you.

  • IamM

Well that’s not at all insensitive, judgemental, of hyperbolic.

Our great hope Pope did a complete180 and ditched his moral compass regarding the support of sexual orientation and gay marriage, most likely due to clergy pressure and death threats. Too bad. He’s a sweet guy. It just got too hot for him in the kitchen. However, we could use a dead martyr Pope style right now.

  • Bill_Perdue

He’s vermin. He should be arrested. We should break diplomatic ties with these baby rapers and we should tax them until they fall and can’t get up.

    • Silver_Witch

Oh man I just had to upvote this one. Very very true. Tax all churches since they are really just corporations.

  • Sadly, comments are closed at that article, so you get the benefit of my first reactions:

    1. — “order of creation” — perhaps His Holiness should take a good look at creation before he starts dictating what it is.

    2. — “entrusted them with the earth” — yeah, and they’re doing a real good job on that score, aren’t they?

    3. — “The design of the Creator is written in nature.” See point 1.

I suppose this means surgeries that separate conjoined twins are a “sin” as well…

Why is it that these religious assholes feel that they are the authority on topics they know nothing about? He should stick to subjects he’s well versed in, like manipulation, child rape and fairy tales.

    • Câl

Surely any surgery or even medicines to cure diseases is “manipulating life” and going against the “order of creation”? Won’t someone think of the microbes! All catholics should just stop using doctors and hospitals and leave the rest of us alone.

      • clay

The RCC tells its hospitals to take ability to pay into their ethical considerations– they were okay with Arizona’s (GOP) death panels.

      • TreGibbs

Right? Remember when that babbling buffoon Michele Bachmann said on the senate floor that “carbon dioxide is GOOD for us because it exists in nature” ? I wanted to inform her about all of the things in nature that try to kill us – like fire, cancer, asteroids, plagues, tornadoes, hurricanes, etc. These people are seriously mentally ill.

  • Pope Francis is sadly misinformed and totally wrong on the issue, both scientifically and theologically. The Vatican needs an adviser other than noted transphobe Paul McHugh.

  • Bergoglio, Woman Hater

To be honest, it sounds like Bergoglio’s harangue doesn’t even touch on transgenderism; rather, it is an attack on WOMEN. ‘Gender theory’, as misunderstood by Bergoglio et al, is a threat to women accepting subservient roles to men. According to Bergoglio, women seeking legal equality with men, seeking equal access to education and employment is a threat to the ‘natural order’ as conceived by the all-male Catholic hierarchy. Bergoglio also condemns as sinners infertile couples who use artificial means to conceive, as well as parents and physicians who interrupt the gestation of a horribly deformed fetus, even if carrying that fetus to term would pose a threat to the woman’s life.

Again: Bergoglio’s opposition to ‘gender theory’ isn’t JUST an attack on transgendered persons, intersex persons, or same-sex attracted persons, it is an attack on WOMEN. He really hasn’t even yet begun to explain all the ways that he and the other men who run the Catholic church believe that gay men, lesbian women, and transgendered and transsexual men and women pose threats to society.

Bergoglio and the ultra-hard-core Catholics are fundamentally bigots and homophobes, which means that we as LGBT individuals owe a debt of gratitude to the millions of Catholics who oppose and ignore the hateful harangues of the church hierarchy, and who support Equality.

Sit down, Bergoglio, you have nothing of interest to say.

  • MythicalBeast

What a truly SICK metaphor to invoke. I’m disgusted with the way that the mainstream press is still pretending that this pope is Mr. Nice Guy in comparison to Ratzinger-in-the-shadows. Stories like this and the recent anti-gay confab just aren’t being reported upon, while stories of his fake friendly-to-LGBT gestures get front page attention. I call sham.

    • Gerry Fisher

IMO, we should stop focusing on whether they elect a “nicer Pope” and pay closer attention to whether they become a “nicer organization.”

Where’s the reference to transgender people? But anyway, it’s very sad to see this dingbat backtracking like he’s been doing. We had such hope for him. On the other hand, it’s good that he’s still using the order of creation argument. It’s totally weak, as others here have pointed out. And it’s only a matter of time before one of our leaders puts down the mirror and the dumbbells and calls the RC on it.

Hubby and I are looking to leave the corporate theocracy known as the US of A. We’re done. We’re lucky to have options elsewhere and we are going to take advantage of them.

Gay marriage will be the law of the land very soon in this US but what is more troubling is the remaining jesus/gawd line that runs through all of politics here. It’s a far bigger problem than anyone realizes.

What about protections for the LGBT community? Gay marriage is just the beginning. There are still no protections for the LGBT community in several states overall. Religion will be forever in our way. religion. religion. religion.

I’ve lived abroad for a number of years and much to my surprise, I’ve come to learn that the US is indeed a very, very peculiar country. In many ways, we are a bunch of overweight isolationists with no sense of the global environment around us.

We are not a democracy at all, far from it.

Religion plays a key role in our politics and yet, there is not enough push back on this. Churches should be taxed in the US given the political influence they have. Yet, no one cares enough to point it out. No one gives a shit. xtiainity is the most poisonous religion we’ve ever seen in the history of humanity, above that of islam. When will it stop? When will the American people wake up and rid themselves of such religious hypocrisy.

Where is the voting block that says no to religion and yes to rational thinking? It doesn’t exist in any great number in the US. We should all be ashamed that religion has played so much a part in our politics. It’s despicable.

And don’t even get me fucking started on being overweight — I’m one of the overweight Americans so refrain from coming after me on the point of being overweight. Luckily, I’m far from isolationist too.

When I live abroad the weight melts off but when I’m in the states, I gain it right back. It’s absolutely fucking bizarre. And I’m not the only one who has experienced this. Our american way of life and what we eat is just fuckin’ bizarre. Sugar in everything.

I never thought I would see the day when the US would have gay marriage. It was unthinkable to me but once we have that, there is still more work to do. It’s time to become more secular, I’m just doubtful that will happen in my lifetime.

  • TreGibbs

Actually, he is describing religious people to a tee….

  • Ginger Snap

Ya know what pope, you can eat my shit! I don’t give one fuck what you say because it has no basis in modern reality.

  • Jim in MN

There is so much wrong with this but the Catholic Church has never been an ally of logic. What I would say to Pope Francis is that people are born Intersex every day. They exist in our world as we speak and saying they do not or ignoring that they do is a lie. Doctors perform operations to “correct” these types of things DAILY and it is not God who chooses the sex that the newborn infant will be, it is the doctor. And if Intersex people exist then so do people who have been born to feel that they are not the sex that humanity sees them as. That is something they should be able to choose under a very tenant of the Catholic faith – it’s belief that God has given people the free will to choose their destiny. The idea that the Catholic Church would choose to undermine a persons free will, especially in cases that simply do NOT involve other people shines a bright light on the hypocrisy and, quite frankly, bigotry that plagues the Catholic Church in ALL areas of its existence. But saying this is futile because these very types of discussion just are not happening at ALL and when you don’t discuss issues openly your are condemning yourself to a very dark world, indeed.

    • BostonDotTom

The term hermaphrodite refers to an animal with functioning reproductive organs from both standard sexes, and does not occur in humans. The correct term your looking for is intersex.

      • Jim in MN

Thanks for this, BostonDotTom. A great reminder that open discussion helps us grow and be more understanding and compassionate. I will not repeat this mistake. 🙂

GOD created the gender spectrum, and it is FRANCIS who is not “recogniz[ing] the order of creation”! >:-/

  • Remember that wonderfully sweet and showy (but oh-so-vague in its conclusion) media blast just a few weeks ago where he lovingly and graciously met with the persecuted Spanish trans man? It turns out Pope Francis actually might think Diego Neria Lejárraga is the “Devil’s Daughter” after all.

“Let’s think of the nuclear arms, of the possibility to annihilate in a few instants a very high number of human beings,”

This in an interview segment regarding people who do not fit into an assumed pure sex & gender binary. Given the extreme hyperbole he is lobbing regarding a fraction of a percent of humanity, it almost sounds like he’s justifying simply getting rid of any trans people a faithful follower might encounter. As a matter of self defense, of course. Acting on behalf of all of God’s Creation. There really is no choice but to act, given his wording. This is so close to a thinly veiled call for genocide on transgender, intersex and perhaps gay people that I fear some of the “Faithful” will see it as such in a very literal sense.

And it meshes well with the call of the other current Pope (Benedict XVI / Ratzinger / Palpatine) in 2008 to protect humanity from anyone sex or gender atypical:

“…the Church cannot and must not limit herself to passing on to the faithful the message of salvation alone. She has a responsibility towards creation, and must also publicly assert this responsibility. In so doing, she must not only defend earth, water and air as gifts of creation belonging to all. She must also protect man from self-destruction. What is needed is something like a human ecology, correctly understood. If the Church speaks of the nature of the human being as man and woman, and demands that this order of creation be respected, this is not some antiquated metaphysics. What is involved here is faith in the Creator and a readiness to listen to the language of creation. To disregard this would be the self-destruction of man himself, and hence the destruction of God’s own work.

What is often expressed and understood by the term gender ultimately ends up being man’s attempt at self-emancipation from creation and the Creator. Man wants to be his own master, and alone always and exclusively to determine everything that concerns him. Yet in this way he lives in opposition to the truth, in opposition to the Creator Spirit. Rain forests deserve indeed to be protected, but no less so does man, as a creature having an innate message which does not contradict our freedom, but is instead its very premise.”

(from his speech to the Curia as part of the annual Xmas breakfast 2008)
