A security guard and a suspect have reportedly been shot in an office building near the heart of Chinatown in Northwest Washington, police say. MPD officials say the shooting happened in the 800 block of G Street in Northwest, about a block west of the Verizon Center. The shooting took place either near or at the offices of the Family Research Council, which is located at 801 G Street. In a statement posted to their website, FRC President Tony Perkins said one of the victims worked with the organization.
The FBI is on the scene.

UPDATE IV: Fox News is reporting that the shooter denounced the FRC before firing.
The suspect “made statements regarding their policies, and then opened fire with a gun striking a security guard,” a source told Fox News. Authorities were treating the attack as a case of domestic terrorism. The FRC is a conservative nonprofit that seeks to advance “faith, family and freedom in public policy and public opinion,” according to its website. The group weighs in on policy, and has often sent representatives to Congress to weigh in on the social effects of policy matters.

UPDATE VII: Fox News now claims that the shooter was carrying a Chick-Fil-A bag.
The gunman, who also was not identified, was being questioned by the FBI, sources said. Sources said he is in his twenties. The suspect “made statements regarding their policies, and then opened fire with a gun striking a security guard,” a source told Fox News. WJLA-TV7 reported the suspect was also shot. Sources also said the gunman may have been carrying a bag from Chick-fil-A, the embattled fast-food restaurant whose president came under fire from gay activists after he said he did not agree with same-sex marriage. Sources told Fox New that after guard took away his gun, the suspect said, “Don’t shoot me, it was not about you, it was what this place stands for.”
