JMG Blog Maintenance Notes

As most of those who comment here have doubtlessly noticed, we’ve been enduring a degraded commenting experience for some time as JS-Kit will cease operations in six weeks and no longer provides technical updates. A change to a more robust system has been long overdue and I’ll admit I’ve put it off for too long due to the daunting prospect of porting over a jillion comments without (hopefully) losing the histories of your individual brilliance.

However that whole porting thang goes, the new system will allow logins from multiple social media accounts as well as registration, which will not be required due to a significant number of requests for continued anonymity when I floated that issue on Facebook recently. We’ll also be testing a template tweak to fix intermittent archive issues and make a switch to a more concise and easily grokked listing of recent posts. With that will come a (hopefully) faster page load.

Anyway, I’m telling you all this as a plea for patience and so nobody freaks out over the next couple of weeks if things vanish and reappear or whatever. We’ll try and do most of this stuff late at night or over the weekends. When the dust settles I’ll post a notice on Facebook and Twitter so you can come and reclaim your user names, should that be necessary. (Fingers crossed and all that.) I’ll start things off today by finally updating my five year-old blog photo. Before you read me for the hat, YES, I have finished balding under there. I just like that hat. Shut up.
