I’m a “good” sleeper. I can sleep through noise, through bright light, just about anything. I’ve slept soundly, flat on my back on the bare floor of an airport terminal. And when I wake up, I’m up. Within 30 seconds of opening my eyes, I’m out of bed. No snooze alarm, no comfy half-awake blankey snuggling. In fact, I don’t even have an alarm clock. I somehow always wake up when I need to. I realize that I am a freak in this regard.

My twice-a-month house guest Eddie, however, needs total sensory deprivation at my place: earplugs, eye mask, the works. I’ve stayed with him in hotels where he had to cover the nightstand alarm clock with a towel because its blinding LED lights would keep him awake, if he’d forgotten his eye mask. Likewise, any light leaks around the room door or through the peephole would render him unable to sleep. He also sleeps in a t-shirt and socks, but no underwear, but that’s another freaky issue altogether.

So…how do you sleep?
